Breaking News reaching FNN headquarters via CNN News reveal that a strange development has been noticed amongst the survivors of the Ebola pestilence which has claimed the lives of many in Liberia. The victims who were being housed in the various isolation centers around the country began to manifest a synchronization in their movements, and started to wander around in an automated fashion. This puzzled the health care officials who were attending to them. It became serious when reports started pouring in that this behavior was manifesting amongst the various isolation centers in the country. By 8:00 A.M, the situation had escalated, as some of the patients started attacking their caretakers and biting them in a Suarez-Like fashion. This development is one which has left the entire Liberian country and other West African countries utterly perplexed, as it is one which nobody foresaw. The World Health Organization, which has been monitoring the situation has come up with a theory, that the Ebola victims are carriers of a deadly pathogenic virus strain, which destroys the neurons and nerval system of human beings, thus reducing them to mere Zombies. This strange development has not yet been discovered amongst the Nigerian Ebola patients, and the FNN crew joins the whole country in praying that this biological disaster would not find its way into the country. FNN promises to keep us updated as events progresses. http:///2014/08/breaking-liberia-ebola-patients-display-zombie-like-symptoms-see-pictures/

Social media went into a frenzy sometime in May over the death sentence passed on 27-year-old Meriam Ibrahim who was accused of apostasy and adultery which led to an international outcry and eventually she was freed. From Ibrahim’s situation, the hard and sad truth is that we do not live in a world of religious freedom. In some parts of the world, converting from one religion to another which is not recognised by that country could mean segregation, barred from taking part in social activities and sometimes, death. According to AFK Insider, There are some countries in the world where your religion could mean a death penalty and here are 10 of them: 1. Afghanistan: In March 2006, Abdul Rahman, an Afghan citizen, converted to Christianity from Islam, and was facing the death penalty on an apostasy charge. Because the case drew international attention and criticism, it was eventually dropped on technical grounds after presidential intervention, but others have not been so lucky. Other converts were arrested throughout the past decade and their sentences have not been made public, assuming the worst. 2. Iran: According to intelligence reports, Iran death squads have been employed against those who renounced Islam, either for Christianity or a more neutral or atheist practice. As recently as 2008, 15 ex-Muslims who have since converted to Christianity were charged with apostasy and are still being held to determine their fate. Other known cases, such as Youcef Nadarkhani, have already been sentenced to death, among others. 3. Egypt: Due to the uncertain nature of the Egyptian government, it is unclear which laws exactly are being enforced, and if the government itself or the population at large is behind all arrests and sentencing. But in 2006, members of parliament expressed the opinion that all members of the Bahá’í Faith were infidels, and should be killed on the spot. Similarly, a 2010 poll showed that 84 percent of Egyptians who identified as Muslim believed that anybody who renounced Islam in the country should be executed. 4. Maldives: Freedom of religion in the Maldives is extremely limited, as Islam is the recognized state religion and few others are tolerated. In 2010, philosophy student Mohamed Nazim openly declared that his studies had forced him to renounce Islam and identify instead as atheist. After his immediate arrest and subsequent death sentence, he publicly reverted to Islam to avoid that fate. 5. Pakistan: The death penalty may be issued in Pakistan for merely publicly denouncing any aspect of the Islam. Speaking in opposition to Islam, publishing material that attacks the prophets, desecrating the Quran, or speaking out against Muhammad may all be punishable by life imprisonment or death. Any actions made that are seen as even attempting to influence somebody else’s commitment to Islam are also punishable by extreme prison sentences. 6. Saudi Arabia: In Saudi Arabia, one is considered Muslim whether or not he/she identifies as such; children born to Muslim fathers are by law deemed Muslim. Therefore, anybody who converts from Islam to another religion, or denounces Islam in any way, is considered to have committed apostasy and could be sentenced to death. Speaking out against Sunni Islam in any sense is also punishable by death. 7. Mauritania: Proselytizers in Mauritania face a serious danger. While there is no direct law that bans non-Muslims from proselytizing within the country’s borders, many laws prohibit material from being distributed and severely restrict the right to free speech regarding the topic. Therefore, anybody who violates these rules may be facing extreme punishment, and proselytizers have been attacked by extremists operating outside of the government’s authority. 8. Yemen: In Yemen, as in other Islamic countries, the act of denouncing Islam is not just seen as a crime in itself, but as an attack against the state and an act of undermining the government. For instance, in 2006, two imams were sentenced to death for peacefully opposing certain faith-based groups. The president eventually pardoned them after public criticism, but the case was only one among many at that time. 9. Kuwait: While the country openly states that religious freedom exists within its borders, aspects of Shariah law make this difficult to believe. Several individuals have been sentenced to time in prison for denouncing or converting from Islam, and the parliament voted in 2012 to make blasphemy punishable by death for Muslims. Though the Council of Ministers rejected this amendment to the criminal code, it is still debated in government offices. 10. Bangladesh: Bangladesh’s nearly 90-percent Islamic majority makes it difficult for other minority groups, who often feel ostracized. While there is no government enforcement of capital punishment for not abiding by Islam, there have been many instances of extremist violence against non-Muslims that were not tried by the courts. There are also instances of societal abuses against minorities, who are shut out of public office, employment opportunities, and more. |
When Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page became billionaires many years ago, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was still struggling with the social networking site. But now he's richer than them, this is according to Bloomberg. See the full report from Bloomberg below... The Facebook Inc. chairman added $1.6 billion to his fortune yesterday after the world’s largest social network closed at a record. The surge elevated the 30-year-old’s net worth to $33.3 billion, moving him past Brin, 40, and Page, 41, as well as Amazon.com Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos, 50, on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Zuckerberg is No. 16 on the ranking. The Google founders are 17th and 18th. Bezos occupies the 20th spot. “He’s just getting started,” David Kirkpatrick, author of “The Facebook Effect,” said in a telephone interview. “He’s going to become the richest person on the planet.” The Menlo Park, California-based company posted second-quarter sales that soared 61 percent to $2.91 billion yesterday, exceeding analysts’ average estimate of $2.81 billion. The company’s revenue gain follows Google’s results last week, when the Web-search company posted sales that topped analysts’ estimates, largely based on the strength of online ads. Facebook has jumped 183 percent in the past 12 months, the biggest rally in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The company trades at 82-times reported earnings, compared to a multiple of 18.2 for the S&P 500. Google is up 7.5 percent for the year. Mobile promotions accounted for 62 percent of ad sales, up from 59 percent in the prior period. Net income more than doubled to $791 million, with profit excluding some items at 42 cents a share, above the projection of 32 cents. In total, Facebook accounted for 5.8 percent of worldwide digital ad revenue in 2013, up from 4.1 percent in 2012, according to EMarketer Inc. The company’s performance also propelled the fortunes of other Facebook shareholders, including Dustin Moskovitz, the 30-year-old who started the social network with Zuckerberg at Harvard University a decade ago, and Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s 44-year-old chief operating officer who became one of the world’s youngest female billionaires in January. Sandberg owns about 9.9 million shares valued at $740 million and has collected more than $550 million in share sales. “The company’s success is growing by the minute,” Kirkpatrick said. “There’s no sign it’s going to slow anytime soon.”

AFTER all the noise and the heightening of the blood pressure of Nigerians by the irascible All Progressives Congress, APC, it was a delightful surprise that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Foces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, was magnanimous enough to let the noisy and lying party to win. Why would Jonathan flock Osun with security forces when he did not plan to give victory to his ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP? Either the President is a waster of precious national resources on a group that has continued to denigrate him and almost set the country on needless fire, or the zoologist is simply naive. Or, as many of his praise singers have been inundating the media space, he is the one this nation has waited for since 1960 to become the beacon of hope in a political system that has been at the root of all our malaise. And while the self-confessed street boy, Aregbesola, was talking like the street kid that he still remains, the Presidency had this to say of the election that consolidated Aregbesola’s term for another four years: “President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan congratulates Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.” According to Reuben Abati, Jonathan’s spokesman, the President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and national security agencies for ensuring that the election was free, fair, credible and peaceful in keeping with the avowed commitment of his administration. He also wished Governor Aregbesola continued good health and a successful second term in office. The comment of the street kid was way different from the general opinion of those who monitored the elections and applauded Jonathan’s management of the Ekiti and Osun elections. Read Aregbesola: “Ordinarily, this should be a moment of joy and celebration consequent upon the hard earned triumph of the people’s will. However, this election shows that democracy is still gravely endangered in Nigeria. We witnessed gross abuse of power and, of due process before, during and even after the actual voting process. It is so sad and unfortunate that what should be a normal, routine process was maliciously allowed to snowball into a needless virtual war by the Federal Government and the PDP. “Osun State was unduly militarised in an unprecedented manner through criminal intimidation and psychological assault on our people. This election witnessed an abuse of our security agencies and amounted to a corruption of their professional ethics and integrity. “The security agencies were unprofessionally utilised in Osun State to harass, intimidate and oppress the people whose taxes are used to pay their salaries and provide their arms. Hundreds of leaders, supporters, sympathisers and agents of our party were arrested and detained. Also, hundreds of other innocent citizens, including women and the aged, were harassed, brutalized and traumatised. In spite of this condemnable repression and abuse of human rights, the unflagging spirit of our people triumphed.” But President Jonathan’s measured reaction actually diminished the APC and its re-elected gubernatorial candidate in Osun. He said: “The outcome of the election has also given the lie to the false, unfair and uncharitable allegations that measures put in place by the Federal Government for the Ekiti and Osun states elections were partisan and designed to achieve a favourable outcome for his party.” The President gave a thumb up to Osun people for coming out in large numbers on Saturday in all the local government areas of the state to peacefully and freely exercise their democratic right, trusting in his assurance that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure their safety and the sanctity of their votes. While the President was being a statesman and should be commended by the benefiting Governor, he rather chose to behave less than a man, declaring that a strong signal had been sent to all that no might is powerful enough to thwart the will of the people, forgetting that the same might saved him from the political hawks in the PDP. Aregbesola said: “This should always strengthen our resolve to ensure that as from now on, every vote must not only be counted but must count in this country. Nobody or party must ever exercise power unreasonably at any level except in accordance with the will of the people to whom sovereignty belongs.” As the President reiterated his belief that the free, fair and peaceful conduct of the elections had fully reaffirmed his administration’s determination to positively reform Nigeria’s electoral processes, the beneficiary was busy fouling up the air with base comments. However, Jonathan said he looked forward to continuing to work with Aregbesola and other state governors to further improve the living conditions of Nigerians in Osun and other states of the country. With the ingratitude that Aregbesola has displayed, there is no doubt that his opponents should set up a robust system to monitor his every step, or like the APC National Chairman, John Oyegun, suggested, set up a parallel government to keep him on his toes. Since they thought up this, it will be necessary to use Osun as a test case. Addressing a huge crowd of supporters at the party’s mega rally for the re-election of Aregbesola at the Osogbo Township Stadium in Osogbo, the APC National Chairman, Odigie-Oyegun, said the battle line was drawn. As he put it: “The battle line is already drawn. “The APC is prepared for free and fair election. If anyone steals our mandate on February 20, 2015, we will resist it and set up a people’s government. Let them be warned, there would be dire consequences for this.” Now that Jonathan has spared APC the honour of setting up a parallel government in Osun, nothing stops Iyiola Omisore from doing so with a “shadow cabinet” of his own. to dog the daily moves of the APC government in his home state and save his people what he considered the tyranny that was their lot in the first four years of the Aregbesola administration in the State. Mr. Femi Ayelabowo, a political analyst, wrote from Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State. Source - So Jonathan allowed Aregbesola to win - Vanguard News vanguardngr.com |
