Science/Technology / After $2m Hack, Patricia Converts Customers’ Assets Into “patricia Tokens” by Horndaskoure(m): 11:12am On Sep 28, 2023
After $2m Hack, Patricia Converts customers’ assets into “Patricia tokens”

After freezing withdrawals for users of its platform in response to a breach, Patricia has announced that it converted all current outstanding BTC and naira balances to its token.

Patricia - Crunchbase Investor Profile & Investments

The retail trading app Patricia has converted the BTC and other tokens their customers own to its Patricia Token (PTK) token. A Friday post announcing its new app, Patricia Plus, described PTK as a stablecoin backed by the U.S. dollar, with 1PTK equal to $1. Yet the big question Patricia’s customers have is if they will finally have access to their funds.

In May, Patricia froze withdrawals for users of its platform after sharing that it was the victim of a breach. The company said Bitcoin and naira assets had been compromised and told customers that it had lost an undisclosed sum. Patricia did not share the date of the incident, but TechCabal exclusively reported that the breach happened in January 2022 and cost the company $2 million.

The return of Patricia Plus
Ironically, the Patricia Plus app launch in April triggered what closely resembled a bank run. While customers had withdrawal restrictions on the old app, the new app had no such restrictions, and many customers quickly tried to move their funds. Like most bank runs, the retail trading app did not have immediate liquidity to meet those needs.

Many customers have been unable to access their funds since April, and the decision to convert customer assets to the company’s stablecoin is an attempt to solve the problem. Yet the move raises many questions, and it is doubtful that this will let customers access their funds. A crypto expert who asked to be identified by his X handle @samlogic_, told TechCabal, “Their monies will be a worthless token printed out of mid-air. I think the funds are long gone; Patricia has misappropriated customer assets just like FTX.”

By failing to keep its customer’s assets safe–the primary duty of a centralised exchange–Patricia fell victim to a breach that has now put it in a place where it will struggle to return its customer’s assets. Its workaround to that problem is to unilaterally convert its customer assets to stablecoins, rightly raising questions of legality.

The most likely scenario is that customers who immediately have access to Patricia tokens will quickly attempt to sell the assets to get their monies back. That market frenzy may cause the stablecoin to depeg and return customers right where they started. TechCabal attempted to get comments from Patricia, but there was no response at the time of this report.

Fraud! How Ex-FIRS Chairman, Muhammad Nami Approved N11 Billion Suspicious Payment After His Sack Dailynewscover

After his sudden exit as chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Muhammad Nami went on to approve N6 billion as payments to several contractors and consultants, TheCable can report.

Nami, who was succeeded by Zacchaeus Adedeji, greenlit the payments two days after he was sacked on September 14, according to documents seen by TheCable.

Officials privy to the development — but not authorised to speak on the matter — said the former FIRS boss directed staff of the finance, audit, and internal affairs departments to work on Saturday and Sunday to perfect some financial transactions while files were allegedly moved from the agency’s headquarters to his house, where they were said to have been “backdated and signed”.

Sources familiar with the matter told TheCable that Nami also moved about N5 billion to the account of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) from the FIRS account.

According to an official, the FIRS director, finance & accounts, was compelled to approve the payments despite allegedly warning Nami about the potential ripple effects.

Nami was said to have assured the FIRS director that there was no cause for alarm, reportedly saying the incoming chairman of the agency would not find out about the approvals.

An insider said Jibrin Jibrin, Nami’s cousin who is an assistant manager at the FIRS, assured some members of staff that the payments would raise no eyebrows, alleging that his uncle had “done the needful” when the acting executive chairman of the FIRS was the special assistant on revenue to the president.

TheCable understands that Nami travelled out of the country following the approval of the payments on September 16.

BREAKDOWN OF THE PAYMENTS

According to documents seen by TheCable, the former FIRS chairman approved N5,628,496,823.04, $863,293.00 and £8,780 for express payment to 196 beneficiaries — all in one day.

Nami approved the payment of N1,409,950,625.00 to 807 nominees for a ‘Business Case for Strategic Leadership’ retreat which is billed to take place in November 2023 while N250,325,000 was greenlit for FIRS Data Mining Management and Analytics in Taxation Course.

The ex-FIRS chairman also approved N221,311,840.00 to be paid to Odey Jacob & 611 others for “Skill Development and Management Improvement Workshop Training”; N42,398,000.00 was earmarked as payment to Mawo Dav Printing Nig. Ltd for the “production of letterhead papers & call cards” while another N36,513,718.75 was approved for Gebos Nig. Ltd — also for the production of letterhead papers and call cards.

Nami appropriated N81,488,127.00 to himself — and nine others — as estacode for a study visit to the Inland Revenue of Malaysia while N54,979,390 was approved for to CDP Partnership Ltd as payment for engagement as a consultant for “stage I &II quantity surveying services”.

In total, over N591 million was approved as estacode payment for official trips made by staff to Rwanda, Kenya, and Morocco, among other countries.

The former FIRS boss approved over one billion as payment for the training of staff on tax disputes, capital market operations, and tax evasion strategies, among other modules.

As an engagement fee for consultancy work in respect of “education and enlightenment of civil society organisations”, Nami approved over N173 million to Juzor & Company Ltd. while Jiop Azzy Ltd was listed to receive over N132 million for the same purpose.

Nami also reportedly signed off on the payment of over N100 million to Skymart Capital Trading Ltd, Toplead Consulting Limited and Alim and Associates Limited for consultancy, monitoring and evaluation services.

FIRS MUM OVER THE PAYMENTS

In a telephone conversation with Abdullahi Ismaila, FIRS spokesperson, told TheCable that he has no knowledge about the payments.

Ismaila however failed to provide further comment, citing a lack of authorisation to speak on the matter.

In another conversation, Tobi Johannes, Nami’s erstwhile media aide, said he ceased to be the mouthpiece of the former FIRS boss “since the day his tenure ended”.

Nairaland / General / Lagos Assembly Summons LAMATA Over Non-use Of Yoruba Language.... by Horndaskoure(m): 7:26am On Sep 13, 2023
Lagos Assembly Summons LAMATA Over Non-Use Of Yoruba Language In Train Announcements

– Confirms 1 Sanwo-Olu’s Nominee
– Asks environment ministry to clear drains

The Lagos State House Assembly on Tuesday asked the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) to appear before it over its refusal to add Yoruba to languages it uses for announcements and instructions in its train service.

The House noted the importance of Yoruba language for passing information to passengers on the trains since it would help some of them, especially new users, easily understand what to do.

The House further noted that since 2017 when the bill on compulsory teaching of Yoruba Language in schools was passed, the State had made conscious efforts to encourage the use of the language in public places adding that this should be sustained.

It, therefore, invited LAMATA to appear and explain the reasons behind its refusal to adopt the use of the language.

The lawmakers also called on the Ministry of Environment to commence immediate clearing of drainage channels and canals across the State.

Hon. Kehinde Joseph representing Alimosho Constituency 2 raised the issue under ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’ at plenary.

According to him, heavy rains in the State as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NIMET) have damaged some houses in his constituency while some buildings have been submerged by flood with properties destroyed.

The lawmaker complained of blocked drainage channels and canals, saying there was need for the Ministry of Environment to act urgently while the Ministry of Information should carry out sensitisation of Lagosians to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

In his contribution, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu representing Eti-Osa Constituency 2 said flooding in the State was as a result of climate change and rise in the sea level.

Hon. Temitope Adewale representing one of the constituencies of Ifako Ijaiye suggested the reintroduction of environmental sanitation to make residents clear their gutters.

Hon. Ladi Ajomale said flooding in his constituency was disheartening, while Hon. Rasheed Shabi said there was need for a stringent policy to be put in place.

He tasked Local Government chairman to take the responsibility of clearing and fumigating the drainages in their areas.

Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, who presided over the plenary, urged the relevant agencies to expedite action. She also called on each of the Local Governments to do the needful while LAWMA should be ready to play its role.

Meanwhile, the House confirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s nominee, Tolani Akibu, whose name was initially stepped down by the lawmakers.

Business / Bank Fraud! Tribunal Slams N120m Fine On Demola Sogunle Led Stanbic-ibtc Bank by Horndaskoure(m): 9:23am On Jul 14, 2023
Bank fraud! Tribunal slams N120m fine on Demola Sogunle led Stanbic-IBTC Bank

The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) sitting in Abuja on Thursday imposed a fine of N120 million against Stanbic-IBTC Bank over the bank’s failure to complete a transfer request for a customer.

In a split decision of two to one, the tribunal convicted the bank for contravening the provisions of Section 130(1)(a) of the FCCP Act, 2018 and Section 5(2)(cool and (9) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Regulation on Instant Interbank Electronic Transfers.

The tribunal said the fine was imposed due to the bank’s failure to comply with the 10 minutes or at most one hour mandatory timeline for failed transfers to be reversed as provided by Sections 154 and 155 of the FCCP Act, 2018.

Demola Sogunle

The lead judgement delivered by Hon. Sola Salako-Ajulo also ordered the bank to pay the claimant, Mr Clement Osuya, the sum of N1 million as cost of filing the action.

“The tribunal holds that in as much as the defendant (IBTC) failed to comply with the two instructions of the claimant to transfer the sums of N500,000 to another account in Access Bank, as no transfer took place at both times, defines that the defendant breached the banker-customer contractual relationship between the two parties,” Ajulo said.

The tribunal, however, refused to award the sum of N5 million to Osuya as compensation on the grounds that he failed to prove any injury he suffered as a result of the failure of service delivery by the bank.

Hon. Ibrahim Yakubu concurred with the verdict of Salako-Ajulo while the presiding judge, Hon. Chuma Mbonu disagreed and gave a minority judgment.

Mbonu in his minority judgment held that the tribunal lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the petition.

According to him, the tribunal has the powers of appellate jurisdiction and not of original jurisdiction and he consequently struck the suit out for lacking in merit.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that Osuya had filed a petition against the bank  challenging the failure of the bank on two occasions to transfer the sum of N500,000 from his IBTC account to his Access bank account.

He claimed that the money was for the payment of school fees for his children.

He told the tribunal that on Sept. 8, 2022, he filled out a form under NIS Instant Payment option for a transfer of the sum of N500,000 to his Access Bank account.

He held that whereas the money, on both occasions left his IBTC account as the account was debited,  it never arrived his Access bank account because it was not credited.

Osuya told the tribunal that reversal on the first transaction was done after 24 hours while that of the second transaction was reversed after 72 hours.

He further alleged that this neglect of duty of care by the bank caused him trauma, embarrassment and a dent in his reputation as he was forced to collect a loan.

The bank, through its counsel, Mr Marcel Osigbemhe had blamed the failure of the transaction on the third-party NIPS service.

Osigbemhe,in a brief remark  expressed his displeasure over the judgment, saying he wondered how his client could be convicted when there were clearly no charges brought against it.

Counsel to the claimant, Ms Deborah Solomon, for her part thanked the Tribunal for the well considered judgment.

NAN reports that the fine is to be paid into the tribunal’s Remitta account.

Business / N5.9m Withdrawal: Businessman Tackles Keystone Bank by Horndaskoure(m): 6:04pm On Jul 11, 2023
N5.9m Withdrawal: Businessman Tackles Keystone Bank

An account holder with the Keystone Bank, Bala Ibrahim, has been finding it difficult to meet his financial needs after an erstwhile manager of a branch of the bank in the Agege area of Lagos State, Tijani Saleh, allegedly made an unauthorized withdrawal of N5.9m from his corporate account.
Ibrahim said efforts to get the bank to refund his money proved abortive.

According to report, Ibrahim opened a corporate account with the bank and funded the account with N20m.

Shortly after funding the account, Ibrahim said he was in need of N5.9m to fund some of the projects his company was doing but had yet to be given a cheque to withdraw money from the corporate account.

In a bid to get the money withdrawn, Ibrahim said he approached the bank manager to advise him on the options to explore to enable him to withdraw the money, adding that the manager demanded the letter-headed paper of his company to process the request.

The businessman, however, said things took another dimension when without his consent, the bank manager allegedly used the letter-headed paper to make an unauthorized withdrawal of N5.9m from his corporate account.

Upon discovering that the money had been withdrawn when he requested his statement of account, Ibrahim said he raised the alarm, and the bank, after getting wind of the manager’s action, sacked him.

He, however, noted that the bank had to refund his money despite knowing that the erstwhile manager was responsible for the unauthorized withdrawal.

Ibrahim said, “I opened a N20m corporate account with the Keystone Bank. But when I needed some money to facilitate some projects in my company, I approached the bank manager. He told me to send the letter-headed paper of my company and I did.

“It was later on I realised he used the letter-headed paper to withdraw N5.9m from my account without my consent. The bank got wind of his action and sacked him. Since then I started begging them to return my money, but they refused.

“I then reported the matter to the EFCC but the matter was turned against me and I was charged to court. We spent over five years on the case before I was finally discharged and acquitted.”

Ibrahim said after the case was concluded, the EFCC failed to charge the bank to court or compel them to pay him the money.

“They accused me of withdrawing the money and yet claimed for a reversal. I wrote several letters to make them reverse the money. They have refused. I wrote the EFCC to charge them to court as they did to me but they refused. All I want is my money back,” he said.

Reacting, the spokesperson for Keystone Bank Plc, Edward Ettu, in an email said a forensic report showed that Ibrahim withdrew the money through a counter cheque.

Ettu partly stated, “When the matter was reported to the police, they went further to investigate the N20m lodged into the account of the customer. The customer refused to allow his fingerprints, amongst others, to be taken but eventually, a forensic report showed that he was the one that withdrew the money through a counter cheque because his chequebook was not ready.

“That judgment neither said he had money with the bank nor that the bank debited his account legally. That did not come up in court at all. The same man that is asking about N5.9m filed a suit against the FG, EFCC, and the bank claiming damages to the tune of over N2 bn but did not make any claim of N5.9m against the bank.

“Up till now, there is no suit against the bank on N5.9m. Our record shows that he was the one that withdrew the money and the forensic examination conducted on his writing and signature proved that. It is not true that the bank debited his account illegally and no court order said so.”

Primate Ayodele Launches ‘Warnings To The Nations’, Unveils 5000 Fulfilled Prophecies

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has launched the 2023/2024 edition of his annual prophecy book ‘Warnings To The Nations’ on Saturday, 1st of July, 2023 at his Lagos church.

In the same vein, he unveiled a compendium of 5000 fulfilled prophecies derived from previous editions of the prophecy book from 2020-2023.

‘Warnings To The Nations’ which has been getting published since 1994 contains several warnings to presidents, governors, important personalities, prime ministers, and monarchs, to mention a few. Since its inception, WTN has over the years served as a prophetic guide to personalities that cut across every part of the world.

While speaking about the inspiration behind the publication and how the journey has been so far, Primate Ayodele explained that the prophecy book was inspired by the spirit of God, while making it known that WTN isn’t a literature book but a spirit-filled publication written by divine signals received from God.

“We have been doing this for 29 years uninterrupted and we appreciate everyone who has been with us all the way. It started with the title “Present and Future Watch” in 1994 and in 1996 we changed it to Warnings To The Nations. It has been a very courageous journey since then.’’

“If we have been doing prophecy since 1994 and we have not been getting it right, we would have stopped. To the glory of God, it started from somewhere and we give glory to God that we are here for this edition. Prophecy is not a literature book, when you are not led by the spirit you won’t be able to do the job.’’

The prophecies contained in the 2023/2024 edition of Warnings To The Nations addressed new governments across the world including Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, and others. The elections coming up in Nigeria, African countries, and on the international scene were also addressed. Apart from elections, topical issues including the Russia-Ukraine war, the Sudan crisis, the Climatic condition, and several others were included.

‘’NORTHERNERS AND TINUBU GOVERNMENT: People like El Rufai and Odebe will plot a coup against the Tinubu government because Tinubu will not follow their instructions. Also since Tinubu will not follow them to do what they want him to do, they will begin to fight him and this will cause problems in the Party. Some APC members will regret voting for Tinubu. Let us pray against an explosion in any of our Oil facilities. Government must be very careful of the militants as they will want to constitute a nuisance’’

‘’PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION PETITION TRIBUNAL: I foresee that if the Tribunal did not do the needful it will affect the image of the Tribunal members. I foresee that INEC will not be seen any longer as an unbiased umpire as expected. INEC will be seen as a clearing house for all manners of election results. There will be confusion in the government circles because the judgment will be very clear to all. The best option will be either they go for a rerun or another election entirely or they leave it the way it is. The Ruling party will not want a rerun they will seek various lines of defense and it will not hold water as expected.’’

‘’G5 GOVERNORS:I foresee that the Group of Five (G5) governors will be struggling to be more relevant in the Nigerian political landscape. Their relevance will not be as expected. There are so many things that will be wrong with these people even as they will have issues. They will feel disappointment and betrayal among themselves. They will not enjoy political relevance even when they cross to other Political Parties. However, APC must be careful of such moves.’’

‘’EDO ELECTION: The spirit of God says they will disregard rotation. The opposition will break the party and the government should allow free and fair elections which is the only thing that will give the government victory. If the needful is not done the PDP’s chance to win the election is very slim. ‘’

‘’KOGI ELECTION: I foresee if the people in PDP are not ready then the APC will win.’’

‘’BAYELSA STATE ELECTION; The opposition will make sure the party of the incumbent fight tooth and nail to ensure victory.’’

‘’SIERRA LEONE: The country needs prayers for progress because they will gang up against the present government. There will be flooding in the country. The enemies of the government will want it to fail. Despite the efforts of the present government, they will not appreciate the ruling party. The government needs to strategize well because the opposition will not take it easy on the ruling party. The country must resist the outbreak of any disease.’’

‘’LIBERIA: I foresee that some parts of the country will want to work against the president. He will want to come out for another term. He will want to make his comeback bid for another term realistic. The country will have several political misunderstandings as the opposition will take various steps to des-stabilize the country. The opposition party will blackmail the government and plot against the government. For the second term of the president, he must work tirelessly to achieve this. The president should not underrate the opposition because they will want to create a major crisis for him’’

GABON: The spirit of God says this country needs prayers for success. The president needs prayers so that he will not be molested or blackmailed. The country will not be stable economically. I foresee the country will face so many challenges. I foresee that the political system of the country will have a lot of crises and they will work against the opposition. The country will face so many challenges. The country needs prayers against ups and downs. The spirit of God says the people of Gabon will call for a change of government. They will fight during the election. The spirit of God says the incumbent must re-strategize to succeed despite the president’s situation and the things that surround him, he will still strife to retain the seat.

‘’UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: I foresee a review of the activities in the Stock Exchange of the country because of the level of unemployment. There will be bailout. The country must be careful because of unexpected shootings, racism, and political tension even as there will be lots of changes in the political arena. Although they will give palliatives and welfare packages and engage in house-to-house campaigns between the Democrats and the Republicans. The spirit of God says theRepublicansn must re-strategize and Joe Biden will want to go for a second term. If care is not taken, I foresee Donald Trump will come back strongly to take over. The spirit of God says if the American government wants to promote same-sex marriage it will see the anger of God. This action can destroy the government of the USA and this will create problems for the American government. I foresee that the Joe Biden government will come up with a law that will fail his government. Apart from this, the coming election in the United States will be very tough. It will cause street protests. The country must be careful against attacks and protests.

‘’RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: The Russia and Ukraine war will take another dimension and so many things will happen in respect of this which we are going to see. So many things will be done to Russia. Russians will blame Putin for so many things they have been through. It’s either Putin disappears, gets attacked or is killed. Russia will want to attack NATO as they will want to create problem. Russia and Ukraine war will not result in a third world war but will trouble the world. There will be total confusion in the world. Ukraine war will bring so many divisions among some countries some people will come together to join Russia in causing troubles but will bring confusion and it will not last.’’

Business / Dangote No Longer Africa’s Richest Man As Devaluation Forces Forbes by Horndaskoure(m): 2:07pm On Jun 18, 2023
DANGOTE NO LONGER AFRICA’S RICHEST MAN AS DEVALUATION FORCES FORBES TO RESHUFFLE AFRICA’S WEALTHIEST LIST

Aliko Dangote, the visionary founder and chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, a leading conglomerate in Africa, has lost his long-held title as Africa’s richest man.

Forbes, the prestigious business magazine, recently published an updated list of the world’s wealthiest billionaires, revealing that Dangote’s fortune plummeted by a staggering $3.4 billion in a single day due to the recent devaluation of the Nigerian naira against the U.S. dollar.

This sharp drop has pushed him down from his long-standing spot atop Forbes’ list, making way for South African billionaire Johann Rupert, who now claims the throne with an impressive fortune of $12 billion.

For years, Dangote held the title of Africa’s richest man, a position he has held since 2013.

His financial achievements reached an unprecedented milestone in 2014 when his wealth surpassed the $20 billion mark, marking him as the first African entrepreneur to achieve such a remarkable feat.

In the past decade according to Forbes records, Dangote’s net worth has faced significant setbacks. Starting at $25 billion in 2014, his fortune gradually dwindled to $14.2 billion, largely impacted by the series of currency devaluations that have adversely affected Nigerians’ wealth, income, and purchasing power.

The latest blow to his wealth sees his fortune decline by $3.4 billion, settling at $10.8 billion at the time of this report.

This dramatic plunge is a direct consequence of Nigeria’s currency hitting a record low, with the central bank auctioning dollars at a rate nearly 30 percent weaker than the tightly controlled official market.

The official market trading restrictions were lifted on Wednesday, which caused the naira to reach an all-time low of 750 to the dollar, significantly dropping from the previous day’s rate of 477 naira to the dollar.

This devaluation severely impacted Dangote’s assets, including his substantial 86 percent stake in Dangote Cement, his holdings in Dangote Sugar Refinery, and his private interests in Dangote Industries.

Although Forbes estimates Dangote’s fortune at $10.8 billion due to the recent devaluation, Bloomberg estimates present a slightly different picture.

According to Bloomberg, Dangote’s net worth stands at $16.8 billion, making him the wealthiest individual on the African continent. Meanwhile, Johann Rupert’s net worth remains steady at $13.3 billion.

Dangote is not the only Nigerian billionaire on the Forbes list whose wealth has been significantly impacted by the recent devaluation of the naira. Other notable figures include Abdul Samad Rabiu, a billionaire industrialist, and telecom and oil mogul Mike Adenuga.

Rabiu’s net worth took a $2 billion hit, plummeting from $8.2 billion to $6.2 billion, consequently losing his spot as the fourth-richest person in Africa to Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris, who presently boasts a net worth of $6.9 billion according to Forbes.

Several leaders around the world are currently in possession of the past editions of Warnings To The Nations.

Since its inception, Warnings To The Nations has done well in speaking to power and foretelling things to come. It majorly addresses leaders of nations and warns them of troubles ahead of them. For those who listen, they end up averting these troubles but for those who ignore these God-given warnings, the otherwise happens.

So far, more than 15,000 prophecies from the past editions have been fulfilled; proof that it is indeed a publication that has God’s backing.

10th NASS Leadership: Nigeria’s Democracy Under Siege As Unrepentant Dictators Assert Dominance – Oodua Groups Tell Tinubu

Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday, the Oodua People’s Frontier (OPF) and the Yoruba Patriots Alliance (YPA) have vehemently condemned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government for its brazen interference in the election of principal officers of the National Assembly, vowing to resist every encroachment on Nigeria’s democratic institutions and insisting that the new administration President Bola Tinubu is already exhibiting dictatorial tendencies.

The groups in a statement jointly signed by the Convener of the Oodua People’s Frontiers, Comrade Moses Oluwasegun Odewale and the National President of
Yoruba Patriots Alliance, Comrade Anuoluwabamise Adetutu, the bodies expressed their “utmost dissatisfaction and concern over the flagrant disregard for democratic principles demonstrated by this administration.

“It is disheartening to witness the relentless attempts by the government to utilize security agencies as tools of intimidation, coercing aspiring candidates into submission. Such actions are not only undemocratic but also threaten the very foundations of our democracy.

“Nigeria is not an agberocracy; we are a nation founded on democratic principles, where the separation of powers and the independence of the legislative and judicial arms are paramount.

“We vehemently repudiates any misguided parallel drawn between Nigeria and the confined realm of Lagos State, where agberos and touts reign supreme.

“We assert that Nigeria, as a whole, transcends the narrow scope of a single state and operates on an entirely different scale of governance”, the groups said.

The Oodu’a groups noted that “It is shameful that the current government, barely at the outset of its tenure, is already exhibiting dictatorial tendencies. Considering the use of court orders to impede eligible candidates from exercising their fundamental rights to contest for principal offices in the Senate is not only an affront to our democracy but also a blatant violation of the principles of justice and fairness.

“The Oodua People’s Frontier (OPF) and the Yoruba Patriots Alliance (YPA), stand firmly against any attempt by this administration to undermine our democratic systems. We refuse to be silent spectators as our democracy is eroded by the very government entrusted to uphold it.

“We will resist every encroachment on our democratic institutions with unwavering determination.

“The people of Nigeria deserve leaders who respect the tenets of democracy and uphold the principles of good governance.

“We demand that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government refrain from further interference in the electoral process and respect the rights of eligible candidates to contest for principal offices in the National Assembly.

“In light of the unabated intimidation of candidates and the flagrant encroachment upon the election process for the principal offices of the Senate, it becomes unequivocally evident that any Nigerian harboring the belief that this administration can genuinely revive their aspirations is gravely deceiving themselves.

“The prevailing demeanor and actions of the government cast profound doubts on their capacity to reignite a semblance of hope.

“We are totally dismayed at the recent trending video of the Vice President Kashim Shettima, announcing the stepping down of Hon. Aliyu Betara and Hon. Yusuf Gagdi in favor of their preferred candidate, Hon. Tajudeen.

“We consider this move to be not only shameful but also a blatant affront on democracy and the principles of separation of powers. In a true democratic society, the election of principal officers of the National Assembly is not the duty of the Executive arm of government, rather, it is the prerogative of the elected members of the National Assembly.

“It is their right to choose individuals who they believe will best represent the interests and aspirations of our Nation. Any attempt to manipulate or interfere with this process undermines the essence of democracy and erodes the trust and confidence of the electorate.

“We call upon the judiciary to be observant and vigilant in the face of these undemocratic actions. It is crucial for them to protect the integrity of our democratic institutions and ensure that the will of the people is upheld.

“Furthermore, we urge the international community to closely monitor the situation unfolding in our nation. Nigeria, as a democratic country, should not be tarnished by such actions that undermine the principles we hold dear. We call on international bodies and organizations to lend their voices and support in condemning any attempts to subvert democracy.

“Our democracy has come a long way, and it is disheartening to witness it being dragged into the mud through actions that disregard the will of the people.

“We shall not waver in our efforts to protect the rights of the Nigerian people and hold those in power accountable for their actions”, the statement concluded.
