Hi Babyx, there should not be a link there.  To register, you actually need to fill the Word version and return to info@kendorconsulting.com.  I hope this helps.
CareerRe: Human Resource Professionals: by HRDiva: 1:49pm On Nov 23, 2009
Hi babyx,
I advise that you fill in the registration form first and pay next week as planned, hopefully it should not be too late. Early payment is required because of the limited venue capacity, so we have to stop registration when the limit of the venue is reached. If people don't register before hand, we won't know how many people to plan for. We also want everyone comfortable as we don't want a crowd with people standing.
CareerRe: Human Resource Professionals: by HRDiva: 10:08am On Nov 23, 2009
Please try and forward to anyone that will benefit from the program. The response has been very positive so far but venue space is limited so registration will stop once the venue is full. There will be a certificate of attendance issued and all slides used by the speakers will be provided to all participants. If you give me your email address I will forward you the email invitation. Interested parties can also email info@kendorconsulting.com

Dadde, For your interview I suggest you get familiar with the key activities of a typical HR department i.e HR lifecycle which covers recruitment, performance management, training and development, compensation and rewards, career management etc. At your level HR strategy and planning will not be key but knowledge that the key hr activities should be aligned to the hr strategy which in turn should align with the corporate strategy is a plus.

More importantly, you should be familiar with the administrative tasks involved in the hr department, as based on your experience, you will more likely be supporting a more experienced person so you would be expected to understand aspects of employee relations, interpreting policy, leave processing and administration, record keeping i.e. the more day to day transaction based processes

Hi Dadde,
I am unable to post any details on the seminar and training here. The forum always seems to delete it so I am not sure what the problem is.

Hi Dadde,
For some reason the Nairaland forum will let let me post any details of the seminar. Once I post it it disappears so I am not sure what to do. You can send an email to me at peopleexpert@gmail.com

Hi Dadde,

We actually have a training program 'HR Boot Camp' 'running at the end of the month but we want to run a seminar targeted at new or budding HR professionals. Experienced professionals are also welcome.

The seminar and training will serve as an introduction to the profession and cover key HR areas. Our facilitators are current HR professionals with expertise in contemporary HR issues. If you are interested in attending the seminar please send an email to peopleexpert@gmail.com introducing yourself and explaining your interest in the seminar. Also attach a current CV with your introductory email.

Spaces available for the seminar are limited, thus will be assigned to short listed candidates on a first come, first served basis. Short listed candidates will be contacted within 2 weeks. Full details will be advertised next week.

Hi Yemi,

Seen the great contributions you have been making here. Well done, I am a HR professional, been in the game a while ;-). I run a lot training and consulting programs. We are actually working on a program for new HR professionals although it's been marketed to our corporate clients. Would you be interested in working on a seminar for budding HR people? Your commitment to the profession is commendable. I am also very passionate about what I do so when I see similarities it makes me glad.

Hi Brill,

I understand what you are saying but I still think you need to refine your topic. Lack of open communication can be argued to be based on personality or the culture of the firm not the culture of the country. You will have to have hard evidence that proves that the practices you are defining as cultural have been proven to be so. You will also need a large sample of firms to prove your hypothesis.

I worked for a firm that had very open communication and practiced collaborative leadership. From my experience it is not culture that often frustrates the average HR practioner but management support. It is management that drives the culture of the firm so the beahviour of the people in the firm is often reflective of the management style. A supportive management will provide leadership that supports the adoption of strategically aligned hr practices.

you can look at culture but as I said it is easier to establish the culture of an organisation and review its impact on hr practices than to take the nigerian culture as a whole.

Again from my experience the firms that have issues executing hr practices are usually firm's that their management have not recognised the strategic role of HR or management that have not yet linked HR to being important to bottom line impact. Just my take,

There is a bit of an issue with causality in the above topic. If it's an HR thesis I would reword it to 'the impact of hr practices on organisational culture' . If it's a sociology/anthropology thesis then i would leave it the way it was but it is still something that needs a lot of work.

I am not sure what the hypothesis is? What are you trying to prove? That Nigerian culture affects HR practices? And so of what use is that piece of information to the HR body of knowledge? These are questions you need to ask yourself before investing in such research. I would suggest you narrow and define culture. If you leave it at Nigerian culture then the parameters are too broad, you may have difficulties defining what exactly is Nigerian culture and you will need quantitative research to agree what behaviours are considered nigerian culture. If you narrow it to organisational culture then it makes it easier to have a hypothesis on the direction of causality i.e. hr impacting the culture of a firm and not the other way round. This is something that needs a lot of thought.

Post this topic to www.hrnigeria.com. Post it in the relevant section and you should get a response.

At Disguy, If you take the route of expatriate the nysc certificate is not required but then the organisation would have to sort out your work permit and other requirements for your employment. Now expatraites are hired becuse the skill is specialised and scarce so some of the legal requirements for hiring expatriates are that they are understudied by I think 2 employees to ensure skill transfer. Now if you do not have a skill that is scarce, no decent firm will go through the trouble of getting you a work permit when they can just hire an indigene with similar or better skills. Especially when they know you are Nigerian and you wee not hired from another country but are living in Nigeria.

The NYSC is better pursued sooner than later because if one job doesn't demand it, the next job might and you just limit your options. Some firms actually help their employees sort out the NYSC certification, particular when they have a number of employees who may have studied abroad and may not have done it immediately after university.

Hiya, you can find where to take the PHR exams from the SHRM (Society for HR Management) website.  I think they sit them in June and Decemeber in Lagos.  Last week there was a meeting of SHRM members and other interested hr professionals, quite a number of hr people attended.  It appears that SHRM are setting up a chapter in Lagos.  I think this will clarify any requirements for sitting SHRM exams, conferences  etc.  There is an online forum which they are just starting for hr professionals www.hrnigeria.com
