Jilli is a terrorist market where the locals are collaborating with boko haram to provide them with logistics and also helped to sell looted goods. Boko haram sympathisers are worst, and they are the same. They deserved what the military did to them.

The people in those villages were also human beings. They could not force the terrorists to leave. The villagers had to do everything that the terrorists told them to do so that they could stay alive.

Yesterday the army caught a man named Turja Bulu in Ngamdu. He said that he was one of the terrorists. He also said that he helped in the attack on 9 April. He was taking food from Jilli to another group of terrorists

in January 2026, terrorists had attacked soldiers on the road near Bindul. Eight soldiers died and others were hurt. More recently, on 9 April, there were other attacks in Ngamdu and Benisheik. Because of these attacks, the army watched the area more closely.

On 11 April, the army heard that many terrorist trucks and motorcycles were moving towards Jilli. People who help the army also told them that these were terrorists. The army then sent airplanes to attack the group

Panic and tears swept through Eruku town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday evening as terrorists stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the attackers invaded the church during a meeting and immediately opened fire, sending worshippers running for cover.

Three members were shot dead on the spot before the assailants seized an unspecified number of people.

“The gunmen came in suddenly and started shooting. Three people were killed instantly,” one source said. “They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken.”

The attackers reportedly escaped through bush paths that connect Eruku to neighbouring communities, leaving residents in panic and confusion.

Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that tension erupted on Tuesday evening in Eruku, a community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, after heavily armed terrorists launched a coordinated attack, forcing travellers and residents to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.

Sources had told SaharaReporters that the attackers stormed the town through one of the major entry routes, firing sporadically as they advanced.

The assault triggered panic, leaving vehicles abandoned on the road as people scrambled for cover.

Eyewitnesses reported sustained gunfire ringing across parts of the community as the terrorists moved deeper into the town.

A traveller who escaped the scene recorded a frantic video while hiding in the bush. In the shaky video, he repeatedly pleaded for security intervention as gunshots echoed in the background.

“This is 18-11-2025. On my way coming back from the Federal Poly, Bida, Niger State, we were coming through Ilorin road when they started shooting. Everybody has scattered into the bush,” the panicked traveller said.

BREAKING: The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, killing the Vice Principal and abducting 25 students.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the attackers scaled the school’s fence in the early hours of Monday and, armed with sophisticated weapons, fired shots before whisking the students away from their hostel. Police tactical teams engaged the bandits but were unable to stop the abduction.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, stated that Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida has been sent to the school to assess the situation, as Governor Nasir Idris is currently out of the state.

Residents reported that the attack occurred around 5 a.m. without resistance. The school principal, Makuku, was shot while attempting to protect the students, a loss the community described as devastating.

Maga, in Danko/Wasagu LGA, has faced repeated attacks in recent times.

I understand the point about countries like China, India, and those in Europe using their native languages for instruction, but that comparison doesn’t fit Nigeria’s situation. Those countries each have a single dominant national language—like Mandarin, Japanese, or French—while Nigeria has over 500 distinct languages and no universally accepted one that can serve as a neutral medium of instruction. Choosing just one would immediately create inequality and deepen ethnic divides.

Beyond that, languages like Chinese or Hindi have long-established written standards, rich vocabularies, and well-developed scientific and technical terms built through centuries of national investment. Most Nigerian languages simply don’t have that level of linguistic infrastructure yet, so translating complex subjects like physics, medicine, or computer science into them would be nearly impossible at this stage.

Even in India, where local languages are widely used, English remains a co-official language and is still the main medium in higher education, science, technology, and international business. In fact, much of India’s global success in areas like IT and medicine is because of its strong foundation in English.

English gives Nigerian students access to global research, education, and employment opportunities. Abandoning it now would only isolate our graduates from the international stage. The smarter and more realistic path is a bilingual approach—teaching early education in local languages for better comprehension, while maintaining English as the language of science, technology, and global communication.

In truth, countries like China and India don’t succeed because they reject English; they succeed because they’ve built strong national languages and still value English as a bridge to the rest of the world. Until Nigeria develops that kind of linguistic foundation, English remains our most practical and unifying medium of instruction.
