Yes promotion has been scarce in some banks, especially the tier one banks but the rule is not to stay in a place i have worked in 5 banks including 2 of the big ones.

The bigger the bank the harder it is to be promoted and easier it is to be sacked..but i work in the digital arm and things are slightly better here.

But even as hard as it is i know people that spent 10 years to become full managers and they may necessarily not be connected... its about what competition can do to get you and what your bank can do to keep you. It is a small but competitive industry.

If he is a manager in charge of payments. He will.earn nothing less than N1.2mn monthly. Only very junior contract staffs earn N80k...full time staffs of banks do not earn less than N200k per month at the least.

I know cos I have spent over 14 years in commercial banking.
