Thanks husseinjnr.
First, I saw a phd scholarship advert on scholarship-positions.com. Then, I emailed a lecturer whose research area interested me in the university concerned. He replied and we agreed on the area I will research.
Second, I developed (with help from the lecturer) a research proposal. After which I applied for admission online. In just about a week or so, I got my admission letter.
Truth is that it wasn't as easy as it may sound. The hardest part of the whole thing was the proposal. Reading carefully through guides provided on research proposal writing on the school's website really helped. In fact, that was the first research proposal I have written!
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us.. and that URL. It's a great place to start. I hope you are enjoying your programme. Thank you once more.

Boss, you need to get to Lagos first. If you decide to travel by air. You have options, you can take aero contractors, arik air, Africa world air, Medview. Please make sure you book online to get a cheap fare. You can either pay with your card or at the bank. If you choose bus...then ABC or Chisco is your friend. Jibowu or Maza Maza festac side is where you will get your bus. The bus will ye take you like 12 hours to get to Accra while the flight will take you 1 hour. The cost for air ranges from 17k, 20k to 30 k. The bus is like 10 kPlease pick one

It is very important that you study the brochure of your intended school. Look at the course content apart from the course it self. This is to prepare you for the challenges and tasks ahead. The culture of the school is also very important. Deadlines for assignment submission is also key. I remember failing a module because I submitted a week late. After doing the course during the next session, I scored 84 but was pegged to 40. So, I beg una; please don't joke with submission date. There is nothing like my Mama sick or I get home troubles. People with terrible stories have distinction and meet up with their deadlines. So you need no excuse.

For your Msc, you really need to work hard. I can talk about my UK university experience . It is moodle based. You have 8 modules or more to complete and you will need to present your final thesis. Your thesis must be free from any form of academic dishonesty. Your works and your modules will be subjected to turn it in. The system is to check for originality and any form of plagiarism will be penalised. The Havard style referencing is a must for you to master if you want to succeed. Admissions for Msc is not really difficult. All you have to do is to apply for your masters and wait for that acceptance. Once you are admitted and you pay your fees you are set to go. You will be taught in details. You will have access to all the materials you need to succeed. The libraries, physical and online are there for you to access free. I graduated with a merit and am sure most Naija graduated with distinction. It's all about doing your required exams and assignments. Some modules are only assessed by assignments while for some modules, you have to do exam and assignments. Some also involves group work. There are also some modules you have to do presentation. So you need to have what it takes to defend your presentation. During the presentation, your mates and various lecturers will be there. You will be asked probing questions that will require you to answer intelligently.

For a Naija sharp brain, none of these will be a problem to you, I can assure you.

So, without wasting time, search for that UK school that's is doing your course of choice and apply.

Good luck.

@all4naija, you are a clear example of an under achiever who is too worried about other people's achievements . Your choice of abusive and vain words is of a great worry to me. I am really worried about your upbringing. You are so mentally challenged to understand the fact that no PHD is granted without proper due diligence from the constituted body of knowledge. Do you think we are talking about BSc here. I am giving you the last warning. If you can not state your views without abusive words, you will be banned from this thread.

Henceforth, I expect you to show respect to others on this thread. No form of abuse will be entertained from you again.

State your views intelligently without portraying your self as a rascal.

Thank you.

Am of the opinion that's it's time to start a name and shame programme. Let's name and shame those difficult supervisors. However, before you name and shame, be sure you are doing your due diligence.

What a public display of crappy service with so much gut. I find it hard that anyone can be this patient with your company. How hard is it to communicate to your customer. How hard is that. How difficult is it for your organization to call back every missed call. IF you guys are not ready for business...I don't know what to say.

I just rounded up my Doctorate degree in Electronic Engineering with specialization in Queueing theory applications in communication systems operating at microwave bands.

It was a crazy period in my life as I had to combine disciplines such as probability theory, non-Markovian queueing systems, meteorology, atmospheric physics, information theory and advanced digital communications in a rare way. To upcoming PhD candidates, I'd say be original and novel in your methodological approach to research. And publish, publish, publish to give your research a wider audience!!!
Can you please share your journey with us. From the process of applying to any other details you may want to share with us. I plead. Thank you

The fact that the Nigerian PhD holders are bunch of annoying individuals who are concerned about their individualism makes me nauseate each time I see them. The researches he is talking about are not going to end up providing solutions to the problems because he has no modern techniques to do that, like publishing them on the online journals, on peer-to-peer review sites, feature them on famous news channels, etc. I am not impressed by those ludicrous researches in thier acropolises. They have nothing to offer the nation with their PhD certificates. Please...
My dear, you really need help. How I wish someone can use you as a research specimen. You are a very good specimen. You are so bottled up with your personal hatred for people who have not offended you.

My dear, please work on your emotional intelligence. You need it to succeed in life. If you continue this way, you might end up being very myopic and stupid .

I can see mostly PhD in Engineering and science courses yet none of them could come up with any invention to help and develop the Nigerian scientific community thereby advancing the society. What a big shame to all the PhD holders on this thread!

Nigeria will move forward without you because your certificates are useless to the nation! angry lipsrsealed cry
Hello, I have gone through your posts and I really appreciate and respect your views. However, I will appreciate that you do a more intelligent criticism by offering a value proposition. You being an ordinary critic is not enough. Why don't you ask a single critical and constructive question, and wait for response, rather than make statements that you can not justify.

In my view, you are a very ignorant person.

I look forward to your constructive questions. I am sure people who are much more intelligent than you are will provide answers .

Thank you.
