EducationRe: 2018/2019 Unilag Admission Thread by hydee123(op): 2:16am On Mar 21, 2018
How to Calculate UNILAG Screening Aggregate Cut off Mark.

O’Level ==> 20%

UTME ==> 50%

Post UTME ==> 30%

Calculate It Thus: For O’level

A1 = 4 points

B2 = 3.6 points

B3 = 3.2 points

C4 = 2.8 points

C5 = 2.4 points

C6 = 2.0 points

Calculate your 5 Core subjects only

For UTME/JAMB Score:

Divide your JAMB/UTME by 8

Divide your post UTME Score by 2

NB: The Candidate must not score below 40% in Post UTME to stand a chance.

EducationNasu, Ssanu, Naat Strike In University Of Lagos by hydee123(op): 11:56am On Mar 05, 2018
http://www.universityadmissionconsult.com/2018/03/nasu-ssanu-naat-strike-in-university-of.html?m=1

Did you ever wonder where the laboratory technologists belong?
Did you ever wonder where the cleaners in the faculties, hostels and around the school belong?
How about the security personnel?
How about the people that do the major work at the centre for information and technology systems (CITS)?
How about the hostel managers? And many other non-academic staff in the school.

Yes, they belong to NASU the NON ACADEMIC STAFF UNION and they exist in all universities in Nigeria.

Three months ago they commenced a strike that shut down all activities in the school, fresher’s registration, hostel balloting was moved from one set date to another, lights in the school generally was turned off leaving students in the hostel in chaos, laboratory activities were either cut short or kept on hold and how can i leave aside the school’s CONVOCATION?

Convocation that was scheduled on a particular date( Feb 14-16) was threatened by the strike and had to be postponed, it is no longer one university’s issue but the issue faced generally by all universities.

Non-teaching staff of universities across Nigeria have been on strike since last year to protest what they called uneven sharing of earned allowances between them and the university lecturers, they are fighting for their pay, a pay which the government said they have given to the ACADEMIC STAFF UNION (ASU).

You can ask if they share same bank account but do not ask me, funny, right?
The government has put this issue aside and have faced what they consider more pressing than this, some say NASU is insignificant and can be scrapped but can the schools really do without them?
But why exactly is it happening? Why should such exist in this country? And why is the need of this body not considered? Or has the government at any point met with the leaders of this group to negotiate and bring this chaos to an end?
And in all of this, quality lecture is undermined due to strike how then can quality students be produced?
We plead that the elephants meet real soon so as to iron out this issue, we ask that the government come to an agreement with the NON-ACADEMIC STAFF UNION real soon.
Our school is not in good order, our hostels are not properly secured and we are fed with theories and no practical where necessary.

EducationUnilag Postpones Convocation Due To Nationwide Strike By Nasu, Ssanu, Naat by hydee123(op): 8:02pm On Feb 13, 2018
http://www.universityadmissionconsult.com/2018/02/unilag-postpones-convocation-due-to.html?m=1

The much awaited University of Lagos convocation, scheduled to hold between Monday and Thursday has been postponed indefinitely.
This is as a result of the challenges posted by the on-going nationwide strike action by the Joint Action Committee of NASU, SSANU and NAAT.

Although necessary arrangements for a smooth ceremony were at an advanced stage, however, it has become imperative to postpone the ceremonies due to the charged and unpredictable atmosphere on Campus. The nefarious activities of the Union witnessed in the last few weeks under the guise of strike action have the capacity to snowball into a major crisis and Mar the carefully laid out arrangements for a successful convocation.
Hence, UNILAG authorities decided to postpone the convocation.

EducationProblems Facing Year One/fresh Students In Higher Institution(university,polytec by hydee123(op): 12:20pm On Jan 13, 2018
http://www.universityadmissionconsult.com/2018/01/problems-facing-year-onefresh-students.html?m=1

Congratulations on being accepted into higher institution. Be it University, Polytechnic, College of Education,Merit, Supplementary, second list, third list, forth list, the most important thing is, you are admitted into a higher institution, Congratulations one more time.

The transition from high school to University is one of the biggest you'll ever make. What should you expect from your first year at university?

The freedoms that come with leaving home for the first time will occupy most students’ mind when it comes to their first year of University, the reality of studying at the undergraduate level will quickly dawn on many for whom the experience will be quiet often shock from the confines of the classroom. Just imagine a lecturer like Grandpa teaching you the first time in FSC115 class, just go home and start thinking about how to cope ( If you know you know).

The first few weeks at university are amongst the busiest of a young adult’s life, but the challenge of new learning styles and independent study can add to what is already a very full plate of activities for most.

Put simply, university is very different from high school in terms of what is expected either in the classroom or the laboratory or social life.

ACCOMMODATION PROBLEM

Let’s take a look at the accommodation the school provides for the student and the excitement one could derive from them. I will be using Unilag as a typical example, there are 12 hostels, 5 male hostels and 7 female hostels with over 18 thousand students, the number of hostels which were made for both the male and female gender on separate places are both skimp for the number of students that would like to stay in hostel. As a fresh student, you need to decide if you are staying in the school hostel and meet the staylite on how to go about it. To those that will stay off campus you need to act fast, you have been admitted why wait : go get your apartment and be ready, this will settle the accommodation stress.

INDEPENDENT LEARNING

High school instructors both teach and ensure that work is completed with the intention of achieving a basic level of education, the role of University lecturers and professors is largely to provide students with a framework and the skills from which they can explore their academic subject.

No one tells you what to do at university, the look in the eyes of many first year students as they adjust to so many changes in their first few weeks in university. Nobody will tell you to read chapter three tonight or do this paper tomorrow, you will be free as in "BETTER FREEDOM".

This kind of freedom can go to a student’s head,(GISTING, PARTYING,WATCHING FOOTBALL e.t.c) but the good students recognize that they need to set their own targets and work consistently and steadily to ensure that they keep up with the pace of university studies. It’s all about maintaining a balance between studying and living.”

SPEND YOUR TIME WISELY

I remember my first term at university very vividly, receiving less than 7hours of lectures in a week , one assignment and was not compulsory ( IF YOU LIKE SUBMIT).

"You will think you are in heaven after you see your first semester exam then it will be dawned on you that the free time was what university was actually all about. It allowed you to get grips with the subjects lecturers were introducing to you.

"You can explore what interest you and what you enjoy. You need to develop learning on your own opinion and your own view and once you have done that, there is time to do everything else as well.”

There is no doubt that the first semester at university is full of distractions, but being aware of what is expected of you as a student and how subjects are taught can make a big difference to making the most of all opportunities and settling down to a successful university career.

There will still be challenges but knowing what lies ahead can make a significant difference to those first few weeks.
