A Japanese couple have been arrested after allegedly imprisoning their daughter for more than 15 years before she froze to death aged 33 this month, AFP has reported.
According to information by a local media on Wednesday, Osaka residents Yasutaka Kakimoto, 55, and his wife Yukari, 53, admitted to locking their daughter Airi in a small room from the age of around 16 or 17, Kyodo News said....

Two of Nigeria’s biggest pop artistes, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, were on Tuesday robbed at the Lagos Airport.

The private jet boarded by the music stars, was robbed on the Lagos airport runway.
Both of them were returning from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where they had gone to perform at an end-of-the-year gig.

A 21- year old man, Israel Oluranti, has been arrested by officers of the Ogun State Police Command for stabbing one teenager, Farooq Olusegun, to death.

Oluranti allegedly stabbed Farooq with a bottle at Ope-Ilu area of Agbado, Ifo local government area of the state on Christmas Day and the victim died shortly after the attack.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the incident followed a heated argument between the assailant and the victim over a missing phone.
“Trouble started when an argument ensued over a missing phone. The deceased accused the suspect of being in possession of the phone.

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related offences, NAPTIP, has arrested a couple for allegedly burning the private part of their two-year-old son in the Kuje area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The couple, Ayo, 43 and 30-year-old Khadijat Yahaya, were nabbed by the NAPTIP Rapid Response Squad in the early hours of Saturday after a tip-off, Punch reports.
The two-year-old who was usually starved was brutalised by Khadijat, his step mother, after he sneaked into the kitchen to eat one of the wraps of moin-moin (beans cake) left in a pot.
The little boy allegedly had his hands, buttocks and genitals burnt by his stepmother, who reportedly connived with her husband.
The couple were thereafter arrested and detained in the agency’s cell in Abuja.
NAPTIP Head, Press and Public Relations, Josiah Emerole, who confirmed the arrest, said the agency would charge the couple to court after the holidays.

The Federal Government has borrowed a whopping N5 trillion from the N7.3 trillion pension funds saved since the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2004.

LEADERSHIP investigations revealed that the N5 trillion was loaned to the government by the pension fund managers to fix its infrastructural deficits and meet its financial obligations as and when due.
It was learnt that, while the money has allowed the government to build new roads, repair the rail system, fix some of the power challenges, pay salaries of its workforce, among others, it has also in return lead to economic growth and development.
Findings by correspondents showed that the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) invested N3.87 trillion, amounting to 54 per cent of the pension funds, in federal government bonds, while the pension operators also invested N1.27 trillion, representing 17.7 per cent of the pension funds in government treasury bills in a bid to rescue the federal government from illiquidity.
This means the pension industry has granted 71 per cent of the pension assets as loans to the federal government through bonds and treasury bills.
Since federal government bonds and treasury bills are less risky, the pension operators decided to invest heavily in them, while the new scheme has generated about N2.5 trillion as investment income from some of the investments PFAs made.
Speaking on this development, the chairman, Pension Funds Operators of Nigeria (PenOp), Eguarekhide Longe said, “With about N5 trillion invested in infrastructural development through bonds, it shows you that the pension fund has been active. So, the philosophy of managing this money is to add to it. It means that the money has been used profitably”.
He expressed dismay over the comments made by some lawmakers and government officials that the pension fund is lying idle, noting that most of the fund still resides with government.
He disclosed that, while the pension fund operators are ready to invest more of the fund in infrastructure, the federal government must come out with infrastructure bond, which it is yet to do.
“We are ready to invest in infrastructural bonds whenever the government decides to float them to finance key developmental projects”, Longe added.
Promising that the pension fund managers are ready to engage with government to expand the economic space, though it is not their primary objective, he added that care must be taken not to invest pension fund in a project that will not regenerate it.
“If you put pension fund in a project that does not regenerate it, the money is gone and in many cases as we have found, the project has not been delivered because it was not properly conceived”, Longe noted.
He said the managers had requested the investment banking community to come out with products that abide by the investment guidelines in the Pension Act, which operators can finance.
Longe continued: “The fact is that there are ample provisions in the investment guidelines that allow for investment in projects, so to say, infrastructure, private equities and real estates, bonds, among others.
“But what has happened is not that the money is idle in the PFAs or that the fund managers have not looked for those projects. It is not their jobs to go and create projects, but we have actively sort the investment banking community to develop products that we can invest in”.
In the same vein, the former Chairman of PenOp, Dave Udeanu, called on the government to come up with projects that are backed up with adequate guarantee, stressing that most states have already invested part of the pension funds in infrastructure.

A stunning student has been strangled to death and her naked body wrapped in clingfilm after she applied for a job as a governess with “model looks”.
The 19-year-old was missing for two days before her body was discovered in a forest. Kristina Prikhodko had been sexually attacked, say police , who have arrested two men, both aged 28, on suspicion of murder.
They warned about men using advertisements to lure young women for sex under false pretences .It is known that Kristina had posted revealing pictures of herself and was this year registered on a site where women can meet “sugar daddies” .
One theory was that the men intended to use her in an “erotic photoshoot”, according to local reports. Her naked body was wrapped in clingfilm and put inside a zip-up bag which was found on snow-covered ground dumped close to a reservoir on the River Ob near Novosibirsk city,The Siberian Times reports.
Two men who a car in which the body was transported were later arrested on suspicion of murder. The men, who have not been named, were today being quizzed over the alleged sexual attack and murder.
The student only applied for the job on December 21 and police believe the advert was in reality placed by men seeking sexual services.
She went to a house outside the city for an interview, as instructed. Her father reported her missing the same day when she failed to return home from her university.
A massive search by police and volunteers was launched resulting in her body being found two days later, reported The Siberian Times. Kristina is believed to have argued recently with her father who said she should behave in a more ‘modest’ way.
On the day she vanished, her phone was live until 8pm but she did not pick up calls. In the light of the case, police urged young women to beware of advertisements for cleaning or domestic help which, in reality, are placed by men seeking sex.
It emerged that police stopped the car used to dump her remains and officers saw the zip-up bag containing her body in the boot.
But at this point the two men drove off and escaped from police. Later, after the body was dumped, police stopped the car again. This time the driver was detained but the other man fled. He was later caught by police.
Both have been remanded in custody. Kristina’s death attracted a huge response on social media.

A 17-year-old in northern Virginia is facing two counts of murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend’s parents after the couple tried to get their daughter to stop dating him because of his suspected neo-Nazi views.

According to police and family members who spoke to the media, the couple, Scott and Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, were shot in their home by the teenager, who then shot himself.
Fairfax County Police spokeswoman Reem Awad said the suspect, whose name is being withheld by police because he is a minor, is hospitalized in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. He is under police guard....

The young man identified simply as Abu said he left the shores of Nigeria to Kuala Lumpur in 2008 in search of greener pastures. While there he met some Malaysians, who sold the idea of selling one of his kidneys for cash.
One of Abu’s associates, Sam Otarumene, who spoke with NewTelegraph said Abu was then introduced to some medical agents in Malaysia reassured him that he would not die, giving him further details about the “business.”
He was told he could survive on one kidney and was also assured that he had nothing to lose. Within a few days, some tests were conducted on him, and his organs were certified healthy,” Otarumene said.
When Abu completed his test he was allegedly told they would pay him Malaysian Ninggit, which would amount to N20million when completed. The agents however insisted on receiving 25 per cent of the money as a fee to cover his post-surgery recovery expenses.
Otarumene continued saying they all signed an agreement; himself, the agent and the family of the benefitting patient before the operation. The agreement was a major requirement before the hospital accepted to perform the surgery.
On a Friday in February of 2009 Abu’s kidney was harvested. He llegedly received the money and returned to Nigeria upon recovery.
When he returned in 2010, he told some of friends about the “business,” and invested his money into a private business.
Abu built a storey building in Irua, then started working with some politicians,” the associate mentioned earlier said.
Otanumene, also refused that newsmen speak with Abu as the action was a guarded secret because Abu only revealed it to a few of his associates.
He however showed newsmen a video of Abu spraying cash when a local musician described as Emperor Wadada, celebrated his 25 years on stage last year.
Otanumene also revealed that Abu is now married with children and living happily by following his dietary instructions.
He further said contrary to reports of organ theft, many Nigerians sell their kidney for a fee, adding only a few fell victim to organ theft.
