National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related offences, NAPTIP, has arrested a couple for allegedly burning the private part of their two-year-old son in the Kuje area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The couple, Ayo, 43 and 30-year-old Khadijat Yahaya, were nabbed by the NAPTIP Rapid Response Squad in the early hours of Saturday after a tip-off, Punch reports.
The two-year-old who was usually starved was brutalised by Khadijat, his step mother, after he sneaked into the kitchen to eat one of the wraps of moin-moin (beans cake) left in a pot.
The little boy allegedly had his hands, buttocks and genitals burnt by his stepmother, who reportedly connived with her husband.
The couple were thereafter arrested and detained in the agency’s cell in Abuja.
NAPTIP Head, Press and Public Relations, Josiah Emerole, who confirmed the arrest, said the agency would charge the couple to court after the holidays.
