Eldest son of the former minister, Chukwudi Ilo, announced his demise while briefing newsmen in Enugu Wednesday. Ilo, a former governorship aspirant of the PDP in Enugu State, hails from Inyi in Oji River local government area of Enugu State.
“He died in the early hours of Thursday 31st of October, 2013 at his London residence”, said the son, who added that details of his burial arrangement would be announced by the family in due course.
He left Nigeria for a vacation in London about three weeks ago where her reportedly developed a heart related ailment.
Chief Ilo was a public servant with a vast track record. He was the Minister of State (Health) from 1993 – 1995, National Commissioner, National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (NECON) 1995-1998, Permanent Secretary in the service of Enugu State Government and Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health among others.
Until his death, Chief Ilo was the chairman, South-East caucus of Rebuild Nigeria Initiative, ‘Project One Nigeria’.
Hon. Ilo was a Church leader and the founder, Leaders’ Fellowship and Ministry of Forgiveness and Reconciliation (LFMFR).
He was a management consultant and a politician. He once contested the governorship of Enugu State on the platform of PDP.

Details of the Monday/ Tuesday marathon meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities have begun to emerge.
NE gathered on Tuesday evening that a key component of the agreement reached by the parties was that the Federal Government would inject N1.1tn into public universities in the next five years.
A reliable source, who made this known, also hinted that the strike would be called off anytime next week.
He said the government team which was led by President Goodluck Jonathan would release N220bn yearly into the sector beginning from 2014.
The source added, “The meeting should be the longest that we have ever had on this crisis but I can tell you that both parties were frank all through the discussions.
“The parties also showed commitment towards ending the crisis. The President in particular showed that he was serious about ending the strike and that was why he offered to release over N1tn to the universities in the next five years.
“The money will be released on a yearly basis at N220bn per annum beginning from 2014. For the outgoing year, the government will only release N100bn and this has been processed.”
He said that the government, in order to show its commitment to a fresh pact, accepted that “the fund(N1.1tn) should domiciled at the Central Bank of Nigeria”
“The money will be released on a quarterly basis to the universities. So, there won’t be any problem about funding the deal,” the source said.
The National Universities Commission and the Trade Union Congress, according to him, will be the joint guarantors of the agreement while the Minister of Education will be the implementation officer.
The source also said that the government agreed among other things, to revamp the public universities by ensuring that all those issues that always led to strike were dealt with once and for all.
It was learnt that the negotiating team of ASUU led by Dr. Nassir Faggae met on Tuesday night to further deliberate on the deal.
Though the details of the meeting were not known as of 11.22pm on Tuesday, it was gathered that ASUU might call a National Executive Council meeting on or before Saturday where the deal would be tabled before all its branch executives.
Jonathan had while shaking hands with Fagge after the marathon meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja said, “My President, I hope it (strike) will end today(Tuesday). Our children have suffered enough. We must find a solution.”
All those in attendance responded with a loud “Amen.”
When greeting Omar, he said, “My President with you around, there will be no problem; our agreement is signed, sealed and delivered.”.
Faggae told State House correspondent on his way out of the Villa, that his team would take back a message to varsity teachers before a decision would be taken on the next line of action.
“We had a lengthy meeting with Mr. President, and we looked into how best to address the problem of university education in this country. We now have a message from Mr. President that we are going to take to our members and we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to his message,” he said.
Fagge added that since the message was meant for members, he would not divulge it to the press.
When asked whether university teachers would be called upon to return to the classrooms, he said that the decision was left for them to take.
When further asked if he was impressed by the President’s message, Faggae cautioned journalists against putting words in his mouth, insisting that only ASUU members would determine that.
The Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, who listened to Faggae’s encounter with journalists, later said progress was made during the discussion.
He said, “We made progress. The President of ASUU told you that they are going back with a message from the Federal Government back to their members and the message is full of high expectation and hope.”
When asked whether ASUU would call off the strike, Wogu said that was why he described the message as full of expectation.
“Our prayer is that they will come back with positive outcome. They might even not come back to meet us. They might take decision there that will meet your expectations “ he said. He added that the offers made by the government during the meeting were those that were in line with the contentious
2009 agreement.
He said since the issues that led to the strike bordered on the 2009 agreement, the government did not go beyond the pact.
The President was joined at the meeting that started at 2.40pm on Monday by Vice-President Namadi Sambo; Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim; the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike; Wogu among others.

I have heard and seen some folks rants about me stealing production credit for Wande Coal's new single "Baby Face" and I would like to clarify this issue. I was only doing my job by making the beat for Wande and that's what I did. I don't see any reason why people should jump into quick conclusions without taking their time to really dig into the matter for facts.
Two years back, I remember I created a demo for Wande Coal's "Shawty Go Low" and someone else took the credits. I was in shock because I had plans to finish the song with Wande and was hoping it would be released as a single which I produced. Here is the link to the original version of "Go Low"

A woman identified as Joy Ngarfarm Iorza of Usar area of Kwande LGA of Benue State has killed herself for testing positive to HIV/AIDS. According to Sunday Tribune, the lady whose had completed arrangement to wed in the next few days, decided to end it all when medical report indicated that she and her husband-to-be tested positive to the sexually transmitted disease. It will be noted that some Christian denominations have made it mandatory for intending couple to have medical test from designated and approved hospitals before agreeing to join intending couples together as husbands and wives. The source, however, told Sunday Tribune that the mandatory test blew opened the status of the intending couple who were confirmed to have the disease. However, the bride-to-be, who could not withstand the shame and stigma, was said to have hung herself on a tree at a bush nearby her family house. On discovering the ugly development, the community and the family of the deceased were said to have held the groom, whose name was given as Anodoaver Anwa responsible for the fate that befell their daughter. The incident was said to have been reported at the police station, while the Public Relations Officer PPRO of Benue State Police Command, DSP Dan Ezeala, who confirmed the story said investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the whole incident. Hmmm may God have mercy on her soul.

Another incident of assassination coming from Benin city. Members of Christ Apostolic Church (Mountain of Blessing), located at 121 Jamila Street, Ikpoba-Hill, Benin City, have been thrown into mourning following the assassination of their zona pastor, Pastor Philip Afemike by unknown gunmen. The incident happened on Friday night when some armed men walked into the church premises where the residence of the pastor is also located and shot him dead. According to the sister of the deceased, Mrs Dennis Dupe, four gunmen stormed the premises in the late hours of Friday night looking for the pastor whom they later found where he was sleeping and shot him dead in the process. She added that they are yet to know what led to the assassination and what he must have done to warrant it. Residents said they alerted the police during the attack on the pastor which lasted for several hours, but the police arrived at the resident, did nothing and went back to their station to report that nothing had happened and the area was calm. Some other people who sustained injuries during the attack were taken to the hospital for medical attention while the deceased was deposited in the mortuary. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (EFCC and ICPC) are at a crossroads over investigation into the purchase of N255m bullet-proof cars for the embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah.
Here is what a top source in the anti-corruption agencies said:
“Ordinarily, the President should have asked us to take over the case instead of constituting his own panel.If you watch his body language, you will know that he does not want us to step in.
“We will wait for the report of the panel and the final report of the House of Representatives. That is when we will know what to do. The truth is that we are not fully autonomous anti-graft agencies and that is a major handicap.”
Oduah on Thursday had denied that the NCAA bought the two bulletproof cars for her use, adding that they were bought for the use of the guests of her ministry.
Punch gathered on Friday that EFCC and ICPC were reluctant to invite the minister for questioning because of her close relationship to President Goodluck Jonathan. Oduah is one of the President’s closest aides following the significant role she played in Jonathan’s 2011 election campaign.
There have been reports that the two anti-graft agencies have launched investigation into Oduah’s role in the controversial vehicle purchase. However, Punch learnt that none of the two anti-graft agencies had made any significant progress in its investigation.
A senior official of the ICPC, who spoke to Punch over the weekend, blamed the slow pace of investigation on what he described as the “body language of the President.”
The source, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said, “If the President wants us to probe her, there would be no need for him to set up a three-man panel to probe her. Why set up a panel when the nation has capable anti-graft agencies?
Punch also gathered that the EFCC was treading carefully and had no plan to invite Oduah to its Abuja office for questioning. A senior agency official who pleaded anonymity said the agency “did not want to incur the wrath of the President”.
The source said, “We are doing our best in this situation but this is a peculiar situation because the President has asked his committee to investigate her.Even though we don’t need the President’s directive based on the public outcry but the formation of that three-man panel passes a subtle message."

Hearing committee chairperson, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, gives her opening speech, explaining the delay in starting the hearing and that the committee would be just and fair.
Delay was because venue used for hearing on Wednesday had been taken over for a another hearing on Land racketeering.
“This committee is out to get to the bottom of the matter. But committee is not on ‘witch-hunting’”12:06
Onyejeocha quips on the tense mood here. “We are not mourning, there is no aeroplane crash; I want to see everyone smiling,” she says. “Feel free and relax.”
The minister is about to be called upon to testify. She takes oath to say “nothing but the truth, the whole truth.”

Ms. Oduah starts by apologizing for inability to attend previous hearings. She said said her absence was not out of disrespect and thanks the committee for rescheduling her appearance.

Ms. Oduah says opportunity to appear will allow her give her side of the story. “For the past week, I have been bashed in the media, many have also risen to my defence.”
She said her spokesperson’s admission of the alleged purchase, while right on concerns for her safety, was “inaccurate”.
She goes ahead to say online publications that she compelled NCAA to purchase cars for her were “false and malicious” allegations. “False in its entirety!”
Says online allegations not substantiated but based on “erroneous” comment of her aide.

Oduah: NCAA has real needs for new operational vehicles. Insists armoured cars not meant for her but foreign dignitaries.
“NCAA acted within the ambit of law”.
“Nothing in the stated documents mentioned my name. I did not request for any vehicles. All I did was to approve the purchase, subject to the agency doing the needful(following the law). NCAA followed due process as required by law.”

The aviation minister still rendering her opening remarks.
The “First Bank facility to NCAA to the tune of N643 million mere understanding not an obligation” she daid.
“Nigeria’s airspace is now rate among the safest in the world”. She adds that allegation about car purchase is meant to discredit her team and give the impression her effort at reforms is not succeeding.
NCAA has not spent any money not appropriated by the National Assembly. The agency has even saved the nation a cost and further embarrassment that may occur in future.

Minister insists NCAA did not exceed its limit or violate the law.
She is reminded by by Jerry Manwe (Taraba state) that the National Assembly rejected armoured cars in the budget which she is defending, the minister buckles: “NCAA will answer that,” she says.
Minister is pressed by Zakari Mohammed(Kwara state) why she exceeded her approval limit, she said her comment on the letter to NCAA was not final but advisory to NCAA to follow the law.
On the said letter, the minister wrote “Approved. Do the needful”.
Brief game on semantics here. Minister says “Do the needful” could mean anything”. But the lawmakers are not having that. NCAA is called to explain the “needful” it did. And the NCAA director general shirks to the former acting DG who was in charge then.

The strike by resident doctors has started taking its toll on the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In-patients are being discharged prematurely by the management, regardless of their condition.
They were told to go home or patronise private hospitals, as doctors failed to report for work.
It was gathered that some in-patients, whose conditions were critical, were given first aid treatment by nurses before they were discharged.
Yesterday, the emergency wards were empty.
President of the the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), UCH chapter, Babatunde Babasanya, said the strike would continue until their demands were met.
UCH’s Chief Information Officer Toye Akinrinlola said the hospital’s management met with the doctors, but they insisted that they would not suspend the strike until their money was paid.
Akinrinlola said: “We appealed to them, but they stood their ground. We will continue to talk to them and we hope the strike will be suspended soon.”
Resident doctors have been on strike since October 1 over the non-payment of their four months’ salary and inadequate funding of residency training programmes.

The head coach of the Iranian U-17 side, Ali Doustimehr has congratulated the Golden Eaglets over their qualification for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA cadet World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but has raised dust on their ages.
“The Eaglets were the better side. I am happy with FIFA for bringing up such tournament which has helped to ensure peace and friendship among the youths of the world. I have been in this job for over 30 years and I have been coaching the National team for 20 years. A 35-year-old prophet, Favour Emmanuel, on Monday appeared before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, and charged with attempt to r*pe his client. Emmanuel, who resides in Adedokun Street, Baruwa, Ipaja, was arraigned on four-count charge of attempted r*pe, undressing without consent, breach of peace and provocation . The prosecutor, Insp. Clara Olagbayi, told the court that the offence was committed at the accused office in Baruwa Ipaja on Oct. 21. Olgbayi said the complainant went to the prophet for prayer, but the accused assaulted her by undressing her and was about raping her when she cried out for help. She said it was the screaming of the complainant that attracted the neighbours, who then rescued her and reported the incidence to the police. The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections, 134, 185, 188 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate, Mrs A.0 Layinka, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the like sum. She adjourned the case to Nov. 29, for mention.
