Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has stated that Gernot Rohr’s men will do well at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Mikel will be featuring in his second World Cup after playing at the 2014 Mundial, where the team crashed out in the last 16 to France 2-0. The former Chelsea star admitted that the three times African Champions would surprise most opponents in Russia, despite Nigeria’s poor showing in their pre-World Cup friendlies games against Czech, England and Serbia which has thrown so much fear on the team possibly crashing out in the group stages. “We like where we’ve been placed. We don’t want to be one of the favourites,” Mikel told Al Jazeera. “I think this will give the team enough motivation to prove critics wrong that we can actually do better than they actually feel,” he said. Nigeria will face Croatia on Saturday in their 2018 World Cup opener at the Kaliningrad Stadium. Rohr’s men are in Group D of the tournament alongside, Croatia, Iceland and Argentina. source: http://kobogist-forum.61417.n8.nabble.com/2018-World-Cup-Super-Eagles-will-prove-critics-wrong-in-Russia-Mikel-Obi-td67.html

Chief Ibrahim Emokpaire, a national chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday announced his withdrawal from the race,. He said his decision was to enhance loyalty and party discipline. He made this known at a news conference in Abuja, explaining that he took the decision to advance the party’s course. The National Convention of the party will come up on June 23 in Abuja. Emokpaire said he took the decision to withdraw from the race after due consultations with members of his family, political associates, leaders of the party and his admirers. “As a loyal party member, I decided to withdraw my nomination in order to unite our party and join forces with our amiable leader, Comrade Adams Oshiomohle, former Edo Governor, to move the party forward. “I have invited you to inform you of my resolution to put behind me my aspiration to contest for the position of the National Chairmanship of our great party, the APC. “I regret therefore, to inform my teeming supporters that following my recent round of consultations with governors, members of the National Assembly and their counselling, I have decided to discontinue the aspiration. “I am aware of how much of a disappointment this would be to many people, but I assure you that this decision has been taken in deference to the wise counsel received in the course of consultations,’’ he said. He added that he consulted with respectable stakeholders in and outside the party whose input could not be ignored before taking the decision. Emokpaire said he had presented his notice of withdrawal of his candidature to the chairman of the party’s National Convention Committee. He, however, said that he was not forced to withdraw out of timidity or threat, but that his decision was to enhance party discipline and loyalty. While appreciating his supporters in the country and in the Diaspora, Emokpaire urged them to continue to believe in APC’s capacity to turn things around for better in the country. source: http://kobogist-forum.61417.n8.nabble.com/APC-congress-National-chairmanship-aspirant-Emokpaire-withdraws-from-race-td59.html

An associate professor with the Kennesaw State University in the United States, Prof. Farooq Adamu Kperogi, has declared that the statement signed by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 6th announcing the change in Democracy Day and conferring honour on the late Chief MKO Abiola will score “F” failure if graded by a WAEC examiner. Farooq, in an article for Daily Trust titled ‘Nigerian Words and Expressions that are Untranslatable into English’ stated that the presidential statement’s “mortifying grammatical howlers” almost derailed him from writing on the chosen topic for his weekly “Politics of Grammar” column. The professor of Journalism & Emerging Media wrote, “I’d planned to write this article last week, but the egregiousness of the grammatical transgressions in President Muhammadu Buhari’s Democracy Day speech was too much to ignore. I was almost derailed again by the mortifying grammatical howlers in the president’s June 6 press statement that, among other things, announced June 12 as Nigeria’s new Democracy Day. From indiscriminate capitalization, to incompetent use of articles, to inelegant, error-ridden phraseology, to misuse of words such as “distract” for “detract,” and basic proofreading errors, the letter was disappointingly subpar. It would get an “F” if a WAEC examiner in English were to grade it. We wail with distress and in national self-pity every year over mass failure in English in school certificate exams, but our president’s official speeches and letters can’t pass muster with WAEC examiners in English. What message does that send to our secondary school students? Well, that’s not my preoccupation for now.” source: http://kobogist-forum.61417.n8.nabble.com/Buhari-s-statement-recognising-June-12-will-score-F-if-graded-by-WAEC-Professor-td55.html

Governor Samuel Ortom has stated that no matter how long it takes, ranching will eventually be accepted by the people of Nigeria. He spoke on Monday in Naka, Gwer West Local Government Area during the traditional marriage between his friend, Architect Asema Achado and Princess Freda Nguamo Damna. Governor Ortom also noted that Benue’s position on the matter was being vindicated daily. He cited resolutions of the Northern and Southern Governor’s fora, National Economic Council as well as the most recent enactment of the law by the Abia State Government as indications that ranching was inevitable in the 21st century. The Governor stated, “Just like the case of the June 12 presidential election, it took 25 years for the federal government to officially acknowledge that Moshood Kashimawo Abiolo won the presidential election.” He commended President Buhari for the courage to acknowledge the truth and urged him to accept the same principle in the matter of ranching. Governor Ortom stated that his concern for now was for peace to return to Benue communities more than any other thing else. He charged couples to be faithful to their marital vows, even as he pledged to support people of the state to fulfil marital obligations. source: http://kobogist-forum.61417.n8.nabble.com/Benue-killings-Nigerians-will-accept-ranching-like-June-12-Ortom-td51.html
