Have we decided on adding Kwara state to the commonwealth?

80% of Kwarans are Yoruba or of Yoruba descent.

I think we need to re-evaluate our decision to not discuss Kwara state. By not discussing Kwara state, we're acknowledging that it's no longer a Yoruba state.

Anyway, I have some news and pics of Kwara I'd like to post.

I think we MUST start discussing Kwara state......

Nigeria: Kwara to Launch Health Insurance Scheme for Primary Schools

Ilorin — The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Kwara State on Tuesday announced its readiness to launch an insurance scheme for public primary schools.

The coordinator, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Onimajise, said Kwara will be the first state in Nigeria to flag-off the scheme which he added will commence by the end of the month.

The scheme, which according to the coordinator will attend to pupils in public schools, is part of federal government's plans to capture the entire public in the insurance policy.

He said the education insurance scheme started with tertiary institutions and has moved to the primary school level.

"The management of NHIS discovered that most states are yet to key into the programme, so the scheme introduced a social insurance programme which will be jointly funded by the federal and state governments. ‎We want the state to amend the laws setting up community insurance so that it can be state health insurance programme with an agency to manage it. ‎Once that is done in line with the National Health Acts, funds will be paid by NHIS to the state agency to cater for vulnerable groups," he said.

Kwara to establish recycling plant

As part of its efforts to address the increasing refuse situation in the state, the Kwara State Government is set to establish a recycling plant, which will generate employment through the Waste to Wealth scheme
The Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, stated this at a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Environment, led by the Commissioner, Otunba Taiwo Joseph.
Ahmed noted that the plant will include a sorting unit, which will separate materials prior to their conversion into useable forms.
The Governor highlighted some environmental and economic benefits of waste recycling such as protection of the environment and saving of resources.
He said recycling can increase production efficiency and reduce costs associated with purchasing raw materials and waste management.
He also noted the potential of recycling to generate employment and boost economic development.
Governor Ahmed therefore charged the Ministry to focus strongly on waste disposal and the ability of the recycling plant to generate employment in the state.
Furthermore, as a result of the growing incident of deforestation in the state, Ahmed charged the ministry officials to align with the reforestation drive through robust policy, advocacy and raising the awareness of the people on the role forests play in natural ecological system.
Ahmed also met with officials of the Ministry of Solid Minerals, led by the Commissioner, Hajia Fumilayo Oniwa.
He charged them to focus on promoting small cottage industries, where there is an existing market, and also to work closely with the state Ministry of Agriculture to find local supply of agro products so private industries can set up there.
The Governor expressed his expectation that a lot of manufacturing firms will come to Kwara State due to stricter border control measures and tariffs, which the Federal Government is set to implement shortly.
He also expressed his hope that with the swearing-in of Federal Ministers, the Federal Government will come up with a position on mining, which should be driven with a Public Private Partnership

Despite public outcry, Ondo enforces residency card in health facilities

Despite stringent criticisms trailing the introduction of Residency Cards, popularly called Kaadi Igbe Ayo, the Ondo State Government on Wednesday instructed all heads of public hospitals and health centres in the state to enforce the use of the card in their various locations.

According to a statement issued by the Ondo State Commissioner of Information, Kayode Akinmade, the directive was handed down by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, at a meeting with some public health coordinators at the Mother and Child Hospital, Akure.

The statement quotes Adeyanju as saying that the residency card scheme was not aimed at making money from the people of the state, as being speculated but that it became necessary owing to the fact that those benefitting from the free medical services provided by the government were non-indigenes.

According to Adeyanju, residents of the state who have obtained the card, especially pregnant women and children from age one to five, now receive free medical services while those without the card would be made to pay stipends for the medical services rendered to them.

He said: “People must be made to see the need for the card. The residence card has become operational in all government facilities. The meeting with the public health coordinators becomes imperative so as to sensitise the head of facilities on the commencement of the card use. The Ondo State Government is not relenting in its efforts to providing free medical services to the people.

“What is operational at the moment in the state is that non-indigene who troop in for normal virginal delivery that people pay between N10,000 and N15,000 to do and Caesarean section are done freely, thus necessitating the influx of people into the state to access the services . Such people must be made to pay for services rendered.”

He therefore encouraged those who had registered for the card to visit their registration centres to collect them.

@ modath

I keep telling you that this residency idea is a great innovation...... in the long run.

All these migrants in the SW states will immediately see reduction in benefits. Enough, our govs cannot continue to use our allocation funds to feed goons from other regions.

We haven't seen the end of the saga, I'm glad Tinubu has intervened.

Since Audu kicked the bucket, his running mate should be the party's flagbearer.

Interesting movie. Still, I follow.

Legally, Faleke should be the new governor, but Tinubu is trying to play it smart by not giving an appearance of fraud.

My own is, since Okun people are indigenous Kogites, they have the right to govern the state.

Igalas can kick and scream from now till tomorrow, Faleke remains the flagbearer.

Yorubas in Kwara/SW, stand with Faleke. Egbiras, stand with Okun people so that you two can form a formidable union.

World Bank Lauds Ondo Over Health Programme

The Ondo state government has been commended by the World Bank Team on Performance Based Financing (PBF) for "running a unique and reform-oriented health system which is globally acknowledged and well accepted".

The World Bank Team leader on Performance Based Financing (PBF), Dr Oluwole Odutolu said "Our visit to some primary health care facilities across the state on the Performance Based Financing revealed that Ondo state is a reform oriented state that deserves World bank collaboration to deepen its reforms".

while scoring the state high in primary healthcare delivery system, Odutolu submitted that the establishment of the State Primary Healthcare Development Board by the government had also added value to basic healthcare in the State.

Odutolu, who led a team from World Bank, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the Federal Ministry of Finance on a courtesy visit on the State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko in his office on Friday noted that the State was unique because it ran a reform-oriented health system which is globally acknowledged and well accepted.

He added that primary healthcare had been scaled up in the 18 council areas of the State to appreciable level, adding that referral to secondary level was also working as expected.

He called on the state government to develop an health care finance mechanism to sustain the laudable health care programmes of the Mimiko- led administration after the expiration of his tenure.
Responding, Governor Mimiko noted that the support of the World Bank was complementing the drive to give healthcare a total phase lift by his administration.

The Governor assured the team of his government's partnership for more qualitative health care delivery across the state and promised to put in place sustainable mechanism that would sustain the laudable programmes of his administration in healthcare.
The state Commissioner for Information, Hon. Kayode Akinmade said the team's submission was a further confirmation of the global recognition of the achievements of the Mimiko led government.

He said World Bank has copied Ondo state example in performance based financing best practices to be replicated in other states of the federation. He further lauded the initiative of Word Bank on its performance based financing programme stressing that this would help to raise the standard of primary healthcare across the country.

If only Ajimobi and Mimiko can work together to build a strong health and e-health system in the SW. smiley

Mimiko Promises Ondo Reference Spot in Health

Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has declared that his government would continue to break new grounds in the health sector until the state was established as a point of reference in medical tourism in Nigeria and the Africa continent.

Mimiko while addressing a gathering of some Muslim faithful in Akure on Friday said at the inception of his administration in February 2009, he met a poorly funded, inadequately equipped health infrastructure manned by an ill-motivated and under-staffed professional work force, adding that It did not help matters that the 2008 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey (NDHS) put the State as having the worst maternal and child health indices in the southwest.

He said It was clear there had to be a total overhaul and reform of the health system hence, his government chose to put maternal and child care at the front burner of medical attention, submitting further that the government was resolute in its conviction that finances should not be a barrier to qualitative healthcare and that, for him to succeed, all pregnant women must be tracked from conception to delivery.

The Governor said six years down the line the government home-grown Abiye (safe-motherhood) programme had become one of the most successful and talked about healthcare initiatives in the developing world.

He submitted that it was generally assumed that the developing world may not attain the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5, stressing however, that Ondo State had reduced Maternal Mortality Ratio from a baseline of 545 per 100,000 births , a reduction of over 70%, adding that, a facility-based 5-year audit of maternal Mortality Ratio at the Mother and Child Hospital Akure believed to be the busiest maternity centre in Nigeria with over 30,000 births showed a reduction from 708 per 100,000 births in 2010 to 208 per 100,000 in 2014, another fall of over 70%.

"As regards child health, through our “Orirewa” – acronym for “Ondo State Routine Immunisation Reaching Every Ward Always” – programme, we have been able to mainstream routine immunisation into our primary health care system.

As a matter of fact, we have won consecutively, the two (and only) editions of Bill and Melinda Gates National Leadership Award for Polio eradication for 2013 and 2014" he said, concluding that his government did not intend to relent in its efforts in the health sector but would rather increase its contribution to the sector and ensure that the state becomes a global point of reference.
