As it is today, there is no northern Christian politician that can secure substantial number of vote for Tinubu in both north east and northwest.

If APC picks a Christian VP from northcentral, it means North East and North West are completely isolated in Tinubu government and that would give Atiku Abubakar firm grip over the two regions.

What Tinubu did is not a religious sentiment. It is the mentality of the northeast and northwest people that will not allow a Christian to represent them at that level because they see them as minority.

Point of correction, the system doesn't place men at any advantage over the women! The last I checked, both men and women have equal access to education and jobs(infact, women enjoy more advantages when it comes to job opportunities). Men are also not paid higher (as per providers) at work places. Even in politics, women still pull their weights and are even clamouring for reserved positions in government which to me is total rubbish!

Nigerian women are mostly lazy and very greedy, but again how can anyone expect a different dynamic in a society as intensely patriarchal as Nigeria?

So long as the system places men ahead of women in everything, irrespective of individual capability/competence, you can't blame the majority of the womenfolk for settling into the assigned (enforced) roles and just playing along in the interests of peace. It is mostly the stubborn (and exceptionally talented) women that break that mould, and usually at the expense of conventional marital expectations or unless they're lucky enough to get married to an equally extraordinary man

Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday while receiving a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at the presidential villa.

The monarchs were at the Villa to congratulate him over the successful rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after spending 56 days in captivity.

Addressing the delegation, Tinubu directed his comments particularly at former governors in attendance, including Ladoja.

"The cost of operation is high. But the money that I'm pushing to the states, if you had it during your own time, or during my time, it would have been different," the President said.

"They are taking four to five times their money. Nobody is borrowing money to pay salaries now. Pensioners are receiving their pay.

"They should do more instead of building flyover where there is no numeric traffic; build roads and artery networks to really enhance the quality of life and the accessibility of the security agencies to penetrate those areas."

The President also disclosed new details about the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire, revealing that the terrorists had demanded not only ransom but also the release of their detained members as a condition for freeing the victims.

According to Tinubu, the Federal Government rejected the demands outright, insisting that his administration would neither negotiate with terrorists nor pay ransom.

Speaking publicly about the incident for the first time since the victims were rescued on July 10, Tinubu said the government's position remained firm despite pressure from the kidnappers.

"We refuse to negotiate for ransom. These criminals wanted us to release from detention members of their criminal gangs that were already arrested, that was one of their conditions, outside of the money they were looking for.

"And we said no deal. We are not going to negotiate with criminals.

"They committed murder, and we were ready to finish with their families, members of their own communities. They grew up somewhere," he said.

Tinubu further revealed that the Oriire school abduction directly influenced his decision to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions.

According to him, the restructuring is intended to reduce military response times, strengthen troop deployment across the country and improve the nation's capacity to combat terrorism and banditry.

He explained that the successful rescue operation was made possible because the military possessed detailed geographical intelligence of the forest where the victims were held.

"As we emphasise the question of security, each event teaches us new methods, opens our eyes, challenges us to examine and re-examine our architecture, our strategy, our map and operations.

"And you will have seen we've given a geographical and numerical answer to the challenges.

"We refused to pay ransom. We have the geography of the forest. We know what it is, and in answer to it, you've seen that from eight divisions, we are now moving to 12 divisions, to shorten the response time, to give that response time the teeth that is needed for us to defeat terrorism and banditry," he said.

The President also commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for what he described as their outstanding performance during the rescue operation.

"I agree that we should commend the men and women of the armed forces for their excellent performance.

"On behalf of them, I accept your message, and I will forward the same thing and the same message on," he said.

Tinubu reiterated his administration's commitment to overhauling Nigeria's internal security architecture, announcing that state police would eventually become a reality, although with safeguards to prevent abuse.

"It is very necessary, and we are doing so. We have equally embarked upon what was missing; several decades of fears and uncertainty about what to do about security at the local level will be corrected.

"There will be state police, and that state police will have guardrails from abuses.

"We will protect it from abuses, and you traditional rulers too will have a role to play more," he stated.

The President blamed the worsening wave of kidnappings and terrorist attacks partly on the deteriorating security situation in neighbouring Sahel countries, saying the instability in Mali, Burkina Faso and the Niger Republic had intensified Nigeria's security challenges.

According to him, many of those involved in violent attacks are foreign nationals crossing into Nigeria through porous borders.

"Some of them are non-Nigerians. You see the problem of insecurity in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic; it is adding more fuel to our challenges.

"In fact, that is why we must enhance the capacity of the forest guards as well as create the state police," Tinubu said.
