The Ballon d'Or is open to every player, regardless of whether they play in Europe or elsewhere. If Messi wins a second World Cup, he'll be the clear favourite for the Ballon d'Or. Kane only won the Bundesliga, which isn't rated as highly as some other leagues. Despite his goals, he didn't even win the Bundesliga Player of the Season award, Olise did. On top of that, he has been quiet at the World Cup since the Round of 32, so I don't see him as a serious Ballon d'Or contender. In fact, I don't think he'll even finish in the top five. As for Dembélé, he missed a good part of the season, and most of his standout performances came in the Champions League. While he has delivered in big UCL games, Mbappe has completely overshadowed him at the World Cup. Theuniverse: Messi no deserve any ballon dor, Kane or dembele deserve the ballon dor. If na by world cup, why no ballon dor for xavi or iniesta when spain win (2010)worldcup, 2014 worldcup that germany win, no ballon dor for muller, what of when france win (2018)world cup and mbappe shine, dem no give am ballon dor. Ballon dor no suppose be about world cup alone, club performance follow, messi is playing in a useless usa league, imagine person playing in china winning ballon dor, it's the same. Abegi. if argentina win this world cup messi no deserve any ballon dor,if spain win too, yamal no too deserve am, cus of his low goal and assists record. Then it goes to the ones who have a balanced world cup and league season, and it's between Kane and dembele. After all modric win ballon dor, bit he lose world cup final, so any difference between semifinalist and runner up player. Make we day watch. |

i don tire the Agenda this World cup against Argentina just too much BlueRayDick: Na why dem dey call am AGENDA na. They will wrongly interpret stats, rely on "eye-test" when data/stats doesn't favour their agenda and top things up with conspiracy theories that cannot be proven.
They won't show you goals Argentina scored that shouldn't have stood, they won't show you the law that was broken by the match officials to favor Argentina, but they will tell you the match was scripted just like they did in 2022. A competition that Messi won multiple Man of The Match awards to lead his team to lift the biggest trophy in World football; they say FIFA rigged it for him. |

You guys just say anything that comes to mind. Do you expect VAR intervention against Argentina when there was no offence that met the threshold for VAR intervention? Quoting VAR intervention numbers without showing whether the referee actually made any clear and obvious errors proves nothing. If Argentina committed no reviewable offence, then naturally there wouldn't be VAR interventions against them. The statistic by itself doesn't prove bias, it only shows how many times VAR intervened, not whether those interventions were correct or incorrect. Sportsweb: From the group stage through the Round of 16, Argentina had the highest VAR intervention rate in their favour per 100 fouls among all World Cup quarter-finalists 👀
Meanwhile, not a single VAR intervention went against them 🫣 |

Based on IFAB Law 12, as far as it is does not lead to a goal directly or the player uses his arm to make his body bigger, it is not an infraction. iamoyindamola: Exactly what I thought yesterday, the handball should also affect the decision |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Ibukzy: 12:51pm On Jul 15 |
Based IFAB law 12 an accidental handball is only punished if: the player scores directly after the ball touches their hand/arm (even accidentally), the hand/arm made the body unnaturally bigger, or it was deliberate. If the arm is in a natural position and doesn't make the body bigger(like in the case of Yamal), it's not automatically an offence just because it led to an attacking move. In fact, IFAB specifically states that accidental handball creating a goalscoring opportunity is no longer an offence Ibime: Go and check the rules on any handball (intentional or not) giving the attacker a goal advantage. AI cannot interpret FIFALONA own rules in isolation. If the handball is unintentional but leads to a goalscoring opportunity , the goal is to be cancelled. The VAR should be sacked. |

Hope this helps Ibime: Well that is debatable, but what is not debatable is that Yamal handballed the ball before Digne kicked him. How did VAR not review that? This was handball before Digne had even lifted his leg. FIFALONA

Oga, Go watch Barca vs Madrid from two seasons ago. Fermín scored after Madrid recycled the ball, but because the ball had touched his hand earlier in the move, the goal was eventually ruled out. We've seen the same law applied against Barcelona too. Btw keep on the tears coming Kimbeast: If it was Madrid that conceded and the goal had been ruled out like that you wouldn't be saying this. But carry on. Once the season starts, it won't even take until Matchday 3 before the usual complaints from you lot begin again about Tebas and whatnot. Don't carry it here.

How is a stamp on the foot a slight foul do you have TV at home? drisham: I ask for consistency
If the Egypt goal was canceled for a slight foul like that
Then the Argentina goal should have been cancelled too
If the Egypt goal was made to stand them there would have been no issue

There have been several instances where red cards have been canceled in club football on merit. But only 2 times where they were merely suspended. |
