UPDATE ON THE IPOB PROTEST IN ANAMBRA

In respect to the IPOB protest in Onitsha (Anambra State), MCAN has communicated with the State Coordinator of Anambra State who earlier gave a directive that there should be no CDS pending the time the unrest is over. She also instructed all corps members to stay indoors and do away with NYSC Paraphernalia for now. She also stated that some of the Corps members are currently in the Barracks for protection while the rest are in their respective houses and lodges. She confirmed to our office that there is no record of Casualty of corps members. In Sha Allah (by the grace of God), NYSC alongside MCAN are currently working on ensuring the Safety of Corps members.
All Corps members within the South East Zone where IPOB members are protesting are advised to avoid any form of Confrontation with any protester, Kindly stay indoor as you are directed.

AKWA IBOM STATE POLICE BRUTALIZED CORPS MEMBERS TO AN UNCONSCIOUS STATE.

A report with pictorial evidence from ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom state has gotten to MCAN NATIONAL office, where police are reported to have beaten some corps members up to a point where some became unconscious. This happened on (Saturday, 28th November , 2015.)

Delegates of MCAN has been sent to the police station in ikot Abasi to verify the incidence before any further action is taken.

All corps members involved or sharing the message of the molestation are adviced to be patient and calm as MCAN follows up with due process.

MCAN ALIGNS WITH MURIC AND NYSC TO CLEAR THE BAN OF HIJAB SAGA

It’s no news again that the Ban of Hijab published and aired by several media houses has caused tension in the country. We use this medium to inform the Ummah that MCAN alongside other Islamic organizations is on top of the matter.

In line with this, MCAN contacted the major media houses who aired the misleading news to withdraw it without any hesitation, of which most of them complied. (This can be verified through search engines and online platforms of the media houses). Conversely, MCAN executives also met with the Director of NYSC PR unit; Mrs Bose Aderibigbe yesterday (Thursday, 26th of November, 2015 corresponsing to the 14th of Safar, 1437AH) to inform her about the havoc caused by the media in the country with the purported news of “BAN of HIJAB” and as such, We advised NYSC to come out openly to clear the propaganda and in shaa Allah they agreed

Based on this, we therefore inform the general Public that the new Development concerning the permissibility of Hijab in NYSC has extended the usage to as long as the knee level and of course three quarter trousers which hitherto are not obtainable in the NYSC Scheme. This was the consensus reached with the DG of NYSC. However, this shall remain the Status quo amid the security challenges facing the country. Consequently, NYSC pleaded that Hijab as long as the feet or ankle level should not be used in orientation camps pending the time the security problems will come to a standstill. The DG also assured us that a directive will be issued to all his subordinates as regards the issue. (White Hijab as long as the knee level with three quarter trousers). This is the agreement between MCAN and NYSC as at the last time we met with the DG (Tuesday, 24th of November, 2015 which corresponds to the 12th of Safar, 1437AH).

On that note, we use this medium to inform the ummah that MCAN is working with all the numerous Muslim organizations in the country, especially MURIC, through our highly respected Professor Akintola who has been contacted, Hence MCAN and MURIC alongside other Islamic bodies are on course as regards the issue. Kindly disregard all the misleading and false information from the fourth Branch of Government.

Lastly, We sincerely appeal to the generality of the Ummah to always get first-hand information from MCAN regarding Muslim corps members’ affairs. Once again, we enjoin all media houses to deploy investigative journalism before passing out information, as passing of wrong information can turn the country into a total mess and dismay. We also use this medium to call the attention of the Ministry of Information to control the flow of unprofessional and misleading News.

NYSC DG DISCREDITS THE BAN OF HIJAB , SAYS "NOBODY CAN BAN THE USE OF HIJAB"

Yesterday, (25th of November, 2015), several media houses misled Nigerians by spreading false headlines that Hijab has been banned in the NYSC scheme. Immediately, the National executives of the Muslim Corpers’ Association of Nigeria (MCAN) contacted the Director General of the scheme through a letter and Text messages to verify the news going viral.

Prior to the misleading news from the media, the National Executives of MCAN met with the DG on (Tuesday, 24 of November, 2015 which corresponds to the 12th of Safar, 1437AH) with respect to the same Hijab and harassment of Corps members issue in some states. In the meeting, the DG assured MCAN of collectively creating a lasting solution to the issues we raised.

On (Wednesday, 25 of November, 2015 which corresponds to the 13th of Safar, 1437AH) The DG discredited the misleading news of some media houses and bloggers such as Punch, Daily trust, and Linda Ikeji among others. He reaffirmed his willingness to work with MCAN executives to attain a better NYSC.
The following text messages were exchanged between the DG and MCAN to reach a consensus on the issue, as we await an official document to this effect;

“Good day sir, please can you kindly clarify the news on the Ban of hijab. Thank you”

“Nobody can ban the use of Hijab in NYSC. We are only pleading that due to the current security situation in the country, our corps members are requested to try and avoid use of Long Hijab. However, what’s your own view and advice on it? Thanks”

“It is a great honour and privilege to be given the opportunity to advice. We advise a hijab to the knee and a three quarter trousers. We have also asked our members to cooperate with the security agencies to maintaining peace and order during checking and to report suspicious persons. It is a great opportunity having your personality as DG, We pray for your long life and health. Thanks”

“This is fine, I will ensure that this is conveyed to all the states orientation camp to guide them. Thanks and God bless.”

Based on our discussion with the DG, all Muslim corps members are hereby informed that; White Hijabs which is up to the knee level and three quarter trousers are now accepted by NYSC pending the time the security challenges in the country will be totally eradicated, it’s very difficult to compromise our religious conventions to this extent by accepting to use Hijabs which are not up to the feet or ankle level however the DG pleaded we accept his offers in order to prevent any security threat. In addition , the DG also promised to send directives to all the NYSC staffs.
Hence, Kindly report any military or NYSC personal to your MCAN state Amir if you are harassed or ordered to take off your hijab, provided it’s around the knee level. In Sha Allah, we shall communicate further information to you shortly. As we await an official communication to this effect. Thus, we enjoy you to stay calm.

We advise all Corps Members to submit to security checks, be respectful, obedient, tolerant, prayerful and above all, report any provoking issue(s) to the rightful bodies in order to prevent any form of regrettable violence.

The National Leadership of Muslim Corpers’ Association of Nigeria (MCAN) discredits the recent news going viral that the Director General (DG) of NYSC has banned the usage of Hijab within the scheme.
In the meeting between the National executives of MCAN and NYSC which was held yesterday (Tuesday, 24th of November, 2015 which corresponds to the 12th of Safar, 1437AH). The DG apologised to the female corps who was recently harassed in Benue State because of long Hijab and the entire Muslim umma. Though, he stressed his concern over the evil committed by some confused people who hide under Islam (Suicide bombing).
However, he informed our office that a committee will be formed to look into the hijab issue and create a long lasting solution. This committee shall include at least an MCAN executive to help NYSC agree on the generally acceptable Hijab to be used by Muslim corps member in camp and outside camp.
In this regard, Muslim corps members are to maintain the use of hijab accepted by the scheme (white) and also submit to security checks until lasting solutions are provided in the shortest period of time.


We advise all Corps Members to be respectful, obedient, tolerant, prayerful and above all, report any provoking issue(s) to the rightful bodies in order to prevent any form of regrettable violence.

With respect to the case of a female Corps member who was harassed by Captain Abalaba in Benue State, the NYSC Director General (DG); Brigadier General Johnson Bamidele Olawunmi scheduled a meeting with the MCAN National Executives in Abuja to discuss the issue in detail.

In the meeting, the DG sincerely apologised to the female Corps member who was harassed and the entire Muslim family within and outside the country. He added that the action of the ex-CC and likes is highly condemnable if done to anyone, irrespective of their religious, ethnic or tribal background. He reemphasised his displeasure over the action of the ex-Benue State Camp Commandant (CC); Captain Abalaba, who was immediately decamped as directed by the DG. He further stated that a committee has been set up to fully investigate the issue, afterwards the ex-CC shall face further punishment and as such he would have nothing to do with NYSC subsequently.

He also assured MCAN that a committee will be set up as soon as possible to provide a long lasting solution to the Molestation and Harassment of Corps members on religious grounds. The said committee will include at least an MCAN executive to guide NYSC on the issue at hand. As a caring father, he showed a positive interest towards supporting MCAN in achieving a better Nigeria and peaceful youth coexistence within the country irrespective of any differences

The president of the association; Abdullah Imam Ishaq presented some gift items to the DG on behalf of the entire Muslim Corps Members in the country.

WHAT NEXT AFTER PASSING OUT FROM NYSC ORIENTATION CAMP.

1. Collect your posting letter from your platoon officer or whoever is assigned to distribute it.

2. Check your letter to know where you are posted. Report to your PPA as soon as possible. (MCAN buses will be available in majority of the states to convey you to the MCAN lodge in your local government for free).

3. Submit your posting letter to your boss , to be accepted or rejected.

4. A detached paper will be given to you to show if you are accepted or rejected.

5. Report to the NYSC zonal office or Nysc local government office in the area you are posted as your case maybe , with your acceptance or rejection.

6. if you are accepted at your ppa , you will be assigned a bank by an NYSC officer at your zonal office. Else , you will be directed on what to do next.

7. Go to the bank you are assigned to and open an account. If you are an existing customer of such bank , you will be directed on what to do by the bank officials.

8. Once your bank account number is given to you by the bank officer in charge. Report back to the Zonal office or Nysc local government office in you local government area.

9. When you get to the zonal office , You will be asked to fill some forms. Afterwards , you will be assigned to a CDS group.

10. Lastly , you will register with your local govt for your state allowance if your state of service pays separate allowance from federal allowance. Only those serving in state institution will benefit from state allowance.

NB
It's advisable to go with a copy of all your documents and about 6 passports. You will need to use some documents to register. Buy a file bag to keep them. Also make sure you are careful with your documents.

Make sure you do all the above explained before you think of traveling to fully prepare for service. (It's advisable to write through the rightful authorities before you travel)

Ensure you register your BVN as soon as you are given a bank account by the bank.

Make sure you take your time while filling all the forms , especially money related ones because incorrect information such as writing phone number in place of account number will result to no salary for such corps member.

There is no 100 % assurance you will finish all the above listed in one day. Some might take as long as a week depending.

PPA is your Place of Primary Assignment ; that is , where you will serve (eg , primary or secondary school , University , ministry)

CDS is your community development service group. You will have a weekly CDS meeting. The meeting days of each CDs group varies

Don't pay any unreasonable amount of money to anyone. Though you might be asked to pay little amount for some documentations, this is about #50- max #200 at zonal office. You might also need about #1,000 or #2,000 to open an account with the bank you are assigned to.

No need to waste your money to lodge in a Hotel. Kindly look for the MCAN lodge in your Local Government Area or brothers/sisters serving in your Local Government.

The corps member involved is the Ameera of the Muslim Corpers' association in benue state.
Therefore , she has the right to enter the Nysc camp anytime she likes. She was in a hijab that's why she was harassed.

NYSC BENUE STATE CAMP COMMANDANT DECAMPED OVER HARASSMENT OF CORPS MEMBER

Our Office has been informed by the Benue State Coordinator that the Camp Commandant of NYSC orientation camp in Benue state: Captain Abalaba has been decamped after harassing a serving female Muslim corps member simply because of her dressing.

MCAN executives took the issue very serious as soon as it was reported, by informing the authorities in charge. Several figures and organisations in the country called to verify the issue and gave their support, inclusive was a representative of the wife of the Benue State Governor.

In the later part of the day (14th November, 2015), the Ex Camp commandant of Benue state; Captain Abalaba who faced a disciplinary committee earlier in the day was DECAMPED and immediately replaced by a new Camp commandant, the decamped captain is expected to face further disciplinary actions.

As we stated earlier in the day, MCAN will follow the issue up to the end and make sure captain Abalaba is used as a long lasting example to all those who have harassed or have the intention of harassing corps members on religious grounds.

As it stands, Captain Abalaba has drawn the attention of a lot of Nigerians to the harassment some Muslims corps members are subjected to by some military officers.

Like we previously advised, all corps members Should be peaceful, respectful, obedient and prayerful.

Earlier today, I supported the #PrayForParis campaign . However it’s weird that the world is only interested in supporting super powers.
Bomb blasts happen in different countries severally but no campaign was launched to support these countries such as Nigeria, Syria and Iraq Among others.
It’s about time we globally launch a campaign against terrorism and kick against campaign designed to support the world powers alone. Several bomb blasts happened in my country; Nigeria but there was no campaign by Facebook to support Nigeria.
For those who derive joy in killing innocent people, it’s only God who will judge you all

RE: SERVING CORPS MEMBER HARASSED BY MILITARY OFFICER IN BENUE STATE

Salam Alaikum

In regards to the issue of our MCAN Ameera of Benue state , A serving corps member who was harassed by one Captain Abalaba, MCAN, through the National Ameer and North Central Zonal Ameer contacted the State Coordinator (SC) of NYSC in Benue state as soon as the issue was reported. The SC of Benue State apologised to the entire umma on behalf of her management, She stated that the military man acted as an individual and not in line with the NYSC rules. The Benue State SC further informed us that a committee has been set up to look into the issue. The committee will give their report tonight (Saturday, 14th of November, 2015), however a grace of (Monday, 16th of November , 2015) will be given to them to get back to us (MCAN).

With the response of the Benue SC who acted like a true mother, we believe the issue is handled with utmost attention , thus, we are patiently waiting for the resolution of the Management of NYSC Benue State. However, we shall report to our highly respected NYSC Director General (Brigadier General Olawumi Johnson), if we are not satisfied with their rulings. This will serve as an example to all the military personals who have harassed or have the intention of harassing any corps member on religious grounds.

We therefore advised all Corps members to be peaceful, respectful, patient and calm, In Sha Allah, MCAN will follow the issue to the end and bring captain Abalaba to justice through our active NYSC structure.

The Muslim Corpers' Association of Nigeria (MCAN) use this medium to empathize and express her condolence to the entire Muslim Ummah, especially the relatives of victims involved in the second mishap of this year's Hajj, where a Stampede in Mina reportedly left at least 717 people Dead and about 863 injured yesterday (24th September , 2015 : Dhu'l-Hijjah 10, 1436 AH).

May Allah grant those who died in the accident Al Jannatul Firdauz and the injured speedy recovery. May Allah also give the family of the deceased the heart to bear the loss and reward them with something better.

MCAN also use this medium to advice the Saudi Arabian government through its Hajj committee which is currently chaired by Saudi Arabia's crown prince, Prince Mohamed bin Nayef to initiate measures on how to control, minimize or better prevent happenings like this as much as Allah empowers them in subsequent hajj.

May Allah continue to guide and protect everyone of us.

NYSC 2015 BATCH B REGISTRATION UPDATE

For those who are yet to register for the 2015 batch B NYSC scheme,
You still have the opportunity to select from all the states in Nigeria apart from Lagos and Abuja which are not available for selection as at 20th of September, 2015: 8:21pm.
Beware of scammers as there is no sales of scratch card or payment of physical cash to any person except online and through approved banks by NYSC.
Ignore any SMS sent from any number in regards to NYSC registration, especially if payment of money is requested
There will be no orientation in the following states;
Borno
Yobe
Adamawa
Gombe and
Bauchi
If you choose any of the states mentioned above, you will be allowed to relocate to any other state apart from your state of origin for orientation.
NB;
The fact that you choose a state is not an automatic guarantee that you will be deployed to such state.

UPDATE OF THE MISSING CORPS MEMBER IN AKWA IBOM STATE.

It is exactly 3 weeks and a day that a Corps member named Adekunle Akeem Afolabi was announced missing in Akwa Ibom state.

As at when this message was typed (13th September, 2015 ; 2:10am) , the Corps member remains officially missing because there is no official report that he has been seen, though there is a rumor that he was sighted in Ibadan.

Anyone with useful information in regards to Mr Akeem's where about should kindly contact ;
The State coordinator of Akwa Ibom state at the federal secretariat , Abak road , Uyo, Akwa Ibom or
The nearest police station or

CONDOLENCE TO THE UMMAH IN REGARDS TO THE CRANE MISHAP IN SAUDI ARABIA.

The Muslim Corpers' Association of Nigeria (MCAN) use this medium to empathize and express her condolence to the entire Muslim ummah, especially the relatives of the victims involved in the Fallen Crane incident which happened at Masjid Haram (Makkah) on the 11th of September , 2015 (Friday).

The death of those who died is a sign of good end to them because ;
They died on a Friday
They died as a Martyr and
They died on the best land on earth.

Over one hundred (100) people were reported dead and about Two hundred (200) were injured. We pray Allah compensate the families of the victims with something better , grant the injured victims speedy recovery and the dead Al jannatul firdauz.

MCAN also express her shock over the kidnap of the chief Imam of University of Nigeria and Deputy Secretary of Nigeria Supreme council for Islamic Affairs ; Sheikh Adam Idoko. He was reported to be kidnaped by unknown criminals.

We call upon all Nigerian Security Agencies to kindly do all they can to find the Imam and put the criminals to justice.

Anyone with useful information about Sheikh Adam should kindly report to the nearest Police Station.

Even as a muslim, i find that comment absolutely disturbing.

The NYSC timetable has been fixed beforehand or can the OP have known that it will clash by January. Besides, i dont even think religion should be considered when it comes to national issues and services not especially in a religiously diverse country such as Nigeria because when everybody tenders their religious needs, the NYSC might not even hold.

Any muslim who felt he wouldnt be able to cope shouldn't have gone to Camp and instead wait for Batch B. NYSC made remobilization for this type of cases.

Thank you for your objective contribution bro , however I am an Exco of the Muslim corpers, association of Nigeria, thus , it's my responsibility to seek to the welfare of Muslim Corps members.

All the same , your idea is welcomed but imagine what it will look like to have a batch for Christians and another batch full of Muslims. The essence of Nysc will be diluted.

Not all the people that set the time table are Muslims but some of them. More so if majority are non Muslims , then , majority will carry the vote.

I am an executive of Muslim coppers association of Nigeria , I am carrying out my repinsibilities. BH is unislamic , we went about our complaint diplomatically and we were considered. Brother, national youth service is not mandated to any body. Is a personal interest. You can decide to apply for exception and collect ur exception certificate. Ur Religon shouldn't see the NYSC officials or federal gvt as enemy.because they don't give a damn to ur fasting. There shouldn't be sentiment because of any religion. The camp is comprise of muslims like u, christians like others and traditionalists and hindus like others. The training given there @ nysc camp is for ur own interest and for ur self defence. Is a choice if the muslim brothers knows that d fasting is important to them, they should pack their load and forget about youth service. They should go back home.

This is why Nigerian authority is better than some of us. Our letter was considered and we are give n some sort of preferential treatment as we humbly and objectively demanded.
