Okupe sentenced to 2 years in prison for money laundering

This reportedly happened between the lawyer representing Doyin Okupe and some security personnel

The court sentenced him to two years imprisonment on count 34 with an option of a fine of N500,000.

Doyin Okupe has been found guilty of receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki and sentenced to two years imprisonment.

Multi-million naira worth of goods and buildings have been destroyed in the fire that gutted the Chemical Market in Onitsha Head Bridge, Anambra State, with many people said to be trapped in the fire.

It was gathered that the fire started at about 12:10pm on Tuesday when the chemicals stored in some shops started exploding one after another.

Many people were also said to be injured as the chemicals were exploding and hitting people at various points.

A United States District Court for the Central District of California has finally sentenced Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abass Olorunwa, popularly known as Hushpuppi, to 11 years and three months in prison.

The Borno Police Command said it had arrested a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, 25, for allegedly killing her husband, Goni Abbah, with poison.

The Commissioner Of Police, Abdu Umar, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri, said the suspect was arrested on 19 October by men of the Command at Anguwan Doki.

Mr Umar said the victim, who was the Chief Imam of the area, returned from the mosque when the suspect, who was the second wife, allegedly mixed poison in his food.

Here is the story behind the Nigerian lady, who was jailed in UAE, over violation of the cyber crime

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission gives more clarification on the case of the Nigerian lady, Ms Dunchi Lar who was convicted under United Arab Emirates laws for recording and circulating "offensive" video on Social media.

Under the UAE cyber crime law, taking a video or photograph of someone without his/her consent and posting such on social media is an offence punishable with one year jail term or a fine of between approximately $69,000 and $137,000 or both jail term and fine.

Ms Lar made and tweeted the viral video of the UAE official at the Airport.

This law also applies to eavesdropping, recording, photographing, or disclosing audio or video communication of a person without his/her permission, taking photographs or videos of a dead person or accident victim without such person’s consent.

She was sentenced on the 12th of October and has 15 days to appeal the judgment.

Ms Dunchi Lar can still appeal the ruling and has been assured of moral and consular support by the Nigerian Mission in Dubai

Dr Fred Ekpe Ayokhai, a lecturer at Federal University of Lafia has been called out for attacking a lady with his children, after she reportedly fought his daughter over a man.

Ayokhai who reportedly works with the History and International relations department of the institution, was caught on camera with his children assaulting and stripping the lady now identified as Blessing Mathias naked.

Prior to being assaulted, Blessing had beaten the lecturer's daughter, Emmanuella for trying to snatch her boyfriend identified as IG. Their fight ensued after she discovered that Nuella had her boyfriend’s number in her phone, which she refused to delete. The said lady gathered her friends to beat Emmanuella. She was seen slapping Emmanuella and hitting her from different angles, asking her to delete the number.

Days after the incident, Emmanuella in the company of her father, Fred Ekpe Ayokhai, and his brother, Praise Shola, and others attacked Blessing in retaliation.

The Popular Alaba International Market in Ojo area of Lagos boiled on Wednesday as hundreds of hoodlums were engaged in bloody clash with traders.

Shops were shut as pandemonium ensued in the market.

Trending videos online showed hundreds of hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons, such as cutlasses spoilt for war as they marched belligerently to attack their opponents.

Scores of traders and members of the Lagos State Parks and Garages were injured in the bloody clash. The clash, it was gathered was over collections of levies in Alaba International Market.

The confrontations between the transport unions and the market task force, which became bloody, were said to have forced traders to shut their shops in fear of being caught in the web of the face-off.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and police from the area were quickly drafted to quell the mayhem.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said Alaba International Market is now calm.

“Normalcy has been restored. @rrslagos767 and men of Ojo Division are on ground, under the supervision of Area Commander Festac, ACP Igbafe Afegbai. There is no cause for alarm as monitoring continues,” he tweeted.
