(CNN) — There are people who can sleep anywhere, any time, in any position -- including upright in an economy-class airplane seat. And then there are the rest of us. Neck pillows just don't cut it. Reclining a few inches does nothing. We need to lie flat, which is what makes Air New Zealand's prototype sleep pods so exciting. On February 26, the airline filed patent and trademark applications for the "Economy Skynest" -- the result of three years of research, development and testing based on input from more than 200 customers at a hanger in Auckland. First, the specs. According to Air New Zealand's announcement, the Skynest will consist of six full-length lie-flat sleep pods in the Economy cabin. The exact location within the aircraft is yet to be confirmed. Each pod will be about 200 centimeters (6.5 feet) long and 58 centimeters (22 inches) wide, and come with a pillow, sheets, blanket, ear plugs and privacy curtains. The airline is reportedly also exploring additional features such as reading lights and USB outlets. "A clear pain point for economy travelers on long-haul flights is the inability to stretch out," says Air New Zealand chief marketing and customer officer Mike Tod in a statement from the airline. "The development of the Economy Skynest is a direct response to that challenge." So will the Skynest actually take flight? There's reason to be hopeful. After all, this is the airline that's already proved its commitment to making economy class more comfortable, given so many of its flights are long-haul. It launched the "Economy Skycouch" in 2011, allowing passengers traveling together to transform their seats into a bed. Staff from Air New Zealand tell CNN Travel no formal certification application is in process yet, "however we have designed the concept to meet all regulatory requirements." As for pricing, the airline is yet to determine the costs and is still assessing the commercial proposition and product viability. But given there are only six pods on one aircraft, they will likely be in high demand. "We see a future flying experience where an economy-class customer on long-haul flights would be able to book the Economy Skynest in addition to their Economy seat, get some quality rest and arrive at their destination ready to go," says Nikki Goodman, general manager of Air New Zealand's Customer Experience. The airline will reportedly make a final decision on the Economy Skynest in 2021, once it has assessed the performance of its inaugural year of Auckland-New York operations, due to take flight in October this year. That flight will take an estimated 17 hours and 40 minutes one way, making it one of the longest in the world. A year of the world's Best Beaches There's a perfect beach for every week of the year. (CNN)The Trump administration will implement a new policy Friday to make it more difficult for foreign nationals to travel to give birth on US soil to ensure their children become American citizens, a practice commonly known as "birth tourism." The new rules will be effective January 24, according to a State Department cable obtained by CNN, which was sent on Wednesday to embassies around the world. The White House announced Thursday that the State Department "will no longer issue temporary visitor (B-1/B-2) visas to aliens seeking to enter the United States for 'birth tourism.'" Consular officers were told they can't directly ask a woman if they are pregnant, according to the cable. "You must not ask a visa applicant whether they are pregnant unless you have a specific articulable reason to believe they may be pregnant and planning to give birth in the United States. You should document any such reason in your case notes," reads the cable. "You must not, as a matter of course, ask all female applicants (or any specific sub-sets of applicants) whether they are pregnant or intend to become pregnant." Visitors to the US will be denied temporary visas if it's found that the "primary purpose" of travel is for obtaining US citizenship for a child by giving birth in the US, according to an amended State Department regulation to be published Friday. CNN reported earlier this week that this policy was expected to be announced soon. A State Department official told CNN that the rule change is intended to address the national security and law enforcement risks. According to the rule, the State Department does "not believe that visiting the US for the primary purpose of obtaining U.S. citizenship" for a child "is a legitimate activity." The rule is specific to "B nonimmigrant" visas, which are obtained for temporary visitors for business or tourism. Additionally, the regulation requires that visa applicants who seek medical treatment in the US must demonstrate their arrangements for treatment and establish their ability to pay all associated costs. source: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/23/politics/us-new-rules-restricting-travel-fearing-birth-tourism/index.html |

A Colorado Springs bank robbery got a Christmas spin. Around noon on Monday, police said that an older man threatened a bank with the use of a weapon. But he took a page from another man with a white beard, according to a witness. "He robbed the bank, came out, threw the money all over the place,'" Dion Pascale told CNN affiliate KKTV. "He started throwing money out of the bag and then said, 'Merry Christmas!'" Bystanders gathered the scattered cash and returned it to the bank teller as the suspect walked next door to the Starbucks and waited for the police, Pascale said. The suspect, identified as David Wayne Oliver, was taken into custody at the coffee shop, police said. It is unclear if Oliver has representation. (CNN) — It looks like something straight out of a James Bond movie, but this concept might just signal that the future of superyachts is sub-aquatic. Dreamed up by Italian-based naval architect Elena Nappi, the hybrid vessel can travel on both the surface of the sea and underwater. Known as the "Carapace," it submerges to a depth of 985 feet for up to 10 days at a time, offering amazing views of marine life. Nappi, who came up with the innovative concept after years of nautical experimentation research, says it represents a "new class of mega yachts," bringing together the cosiness of luxury yachts and the "privacy" of immersion navigation. A collection of luxury supercars seized from the extravagant vice president of Equatorial Guinea as part of a corruption probe were auctioned in Switzerland on Sunday. The sale -- organized by London-based auction house Bonhams -- saw 25 vehicles sold that once belonged to Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the son of the central African nation's longtime leader. Swiss authorities confiscated the luxury stash of vehicles from Obiang in 2016 after an investigation into money laundering. All the cars were sold without a reserve price and none had racked up more than just a few thousand miles Among the set was a roadster version of the Lamborghini Veneno -- one of just nine produced to celebrate the manufacturer's 50th anniversary -- sold for an eye-watering $8.3 million. It was originally estimated to be worth more than $5.1 million. A limited edition LaFerrari was also auctioned for $2.2 million, while a 1,300-horsepower Koenigsegg One:1 -- of which just seven were ever produced -- fetched $4.6 million, double what what was expected. Also in the collection was a McLaren P1 which sold for $1.1 million, an Aston Martin One-77 sold for $1.5 million and a Bugatti Veyron auctioned for $1.3 million. All of the cars were "sold on behalf of the State of Geneva and the proceeds are going to charity," Bonhams said in an email to CNN. Classic Ferrari 288 GTO worth over $2 million stolen on test drive Geneva police seized the fleet from a cargo area in the city's airport in 2016 after criminal proceedings were opened against Obiang. As reported by Reuters, Swiss prosecutors announced in February that they had closed an inquiry into Obiang for money-laundering and misappropriation of public assets with the arrangement to sell the vehicles to fund programs in Equatorial Guinea. According to the Swiss penal code, prosecutors can drop charges in instances like this if defendants offer compensation "and restores a situation that is in conformity with the law," Agence France-Presse reported. Obiang's expensive tastes have been the subject of probes by authorities in several countries. He was handed a three-year suspended jail term for embezzlement by a French court in 2017, for splurging on a Parisian mansion, a private jet and the fleet of luxury cars with funds looted from his country. Marcello Gandini's radical automotive designs Before that, Obiang agreed to a $30 million settlement to resolve the US government's allegations that he used money plundered from his country to amass assets such as a California mansion, a jet and a sizable collection of Michael Jackson memorabilia -- including the crystal-encrusted white glove from Jackson's "Bad" world tour. And last year, Brazilian authorities seized more than $16 million in cash and luxury watches from a delegation traveling with Obiang, according to local media reports. His father, Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who seized power in a 1979 coup, is the longest-serving head of state on the continent. He appointed his son as his deputy in 2016. The oil-rich country, one of the wealthiest in Africa, keeps a tight lid on information. For several years, anti-corruption NGO Transparency International described Equatorial Guinea as "too opaque to rank," saying it could not get enough data on it for the global corruption index. A military-chartered passenger plane slid off a runway and into a Florida river while landing Friday night, authorities said, forcing scores of passengers onto the aircraft's wings to await rescue. CNN---The Boeing 737, carrying 136 passengers and seven crew members from the Guantanamo Bay military station in Cuba to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, came to rest in a shallow part of the St. Johns River and was not submerged. All people aboard survived, and firefighters helped them to safety, officials said. Twenty-one survivors were transported to hospitals in good condition, Jacksonville fire spokesman Tom Francis said. The flight had passed through thunderstorms, a passenger told CNN. The safe landing was a miracle, said Capt. Michael Connor, a commanding officer at the Jacksonville station. "We could be talking about a different story this evening. So, there's a lot to say about the professionalism of the folks that helped the passengers off the airplane," he said early Saturday at a news conference. The plane was taking active-duty military members, civilian government employees and their dependents back to the US, Connor said. "Some of them were coming back to see their families, some of them were continuing on travel to their homes outside of Florida," he said. A convicted killer beheaded another murderer in their prison cell and removed several of his body parts in a "sadistic" attack, it is alleged. Jaime Osuna, 31, is accused of repeatedly cutting Luis Romero with a sharp object wrapped in string and attached to a handle at a jail in California. Authorities believe the victim was alive for at least part of the attack which district attorney Phil Esbenshade described as the "most gruesome case" he had ever seen "in terms of heinousness in the slaying". Romero, 44, was found dead in his cell by guards at Corcoran state prison near Sacramento on 9 March. He had bled to death from "multiple sharp force trauma injuries" and his body was mutilated, according to a post-mortem examination. Osuna has been charged with murder, torture, mayhem and weapons possession. The torture charge alleges he acted "with the intent to cause cruel and extreme pain and suffering for the purpose of revenge, extortion, persuasion and for a sadistic purpose". Osuna could face the death penalty as the killing "was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity". He has appeared in court and has denied murder and other charges. An investigation by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is under way. Osuna has now been transferred to a prison in Stockton for inmates needing medical or mental health care, but officials have not revealed the reason for the move, citing privacy laws. He was reportedly sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty in 2017 to killing 37-year-old Yvette Pena at a Bakersfield motel in 2011. Romero also was serving a life term for a Los Angeles County killing, but with the possibility of parole. A Chinese researcher who sparked improved cognitive function in monkeys by implanting human genes into their brains has defended his experiment, which has divided the scientific community. The research, undertaken by multiple universities and led by the Kunming Institute of Zoology in southwestern China, was intended to shed more light on the evolutionary process which led to human intelligence. "Brain size and cognitive skills are the most dramatically changed traits in humans during evolution, and yet the genetic mechanisms underlying these human-specific changes remain elusive," said a report published on March 27 in the China-based journal National Science Review. The research paper said it was the first time such a study had taken place. One of the lead researchers Su Bing, from the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Kunming Institute of Zoology, said the experiment has been reviewed by the university's ethics board and had followed not only Chinese and international best scientific practices, but also international animal rights standards. "In the long run, such basic research will also provide valuable information for the analysis of the etiology and treatment of human brain diseases (such as autism) caused by abnormal brain development," he said in an email to CNN. But scientists who have long debated the ethics of transgenic experiments on monkeys and apes have said the experiment leads researchers down a "risky road." It is the second gene-related controversy to hit researchers in China in less than six months. In November a Chinese scientist claimed he had created the world's first gene-edited babies, sparking an international outcry. He claimed to have used a tool known as CRISPR-cas9 to remove the genes that made the children susceptible to HIV. Chinese authorities took a dim view of the experiment, branding it "illegal" and ordering an investigation. In Su's 2019 study, 11 rhesus monkeys were successfully implanted with copies of the human MCPH1 gene, an important marker for "brain development and brain evolution." Analysis of the monkeys' behavior and physiology showed they developed in a more human-like fashion, with better short-term memory and a faster reaction time compared to a control group. Chinese authorities say world's first gene-edited babies were illegal Chinese authorities say world's first gene-edited babies were illegal Their brains also took longer to develop, in a similar fashion to humans. The research has been criticized by a number of Western scientists. University of Colorado geneticist James Sikela said it was a "very risky road to take." Sikela and his colleagues had argued in a paper published in 2010 that transgenic experiments on non-human primates raised complicated ethical issues and that enhanced primates would be at greater risk of exploitation and harm. "These harms render the conduct of this research ethically unacceptable in apes, justifying regulatory barriers between these species and all other non-human primates for transgenic research," the 2010 paper said. The paper did, however, concede the research could be valid in some situations. In the MIT Technology Review, University of Colorado bioethicist Jacqueline Glover compared the experiment to the sci-fi dystopian movie "Planet of the Apes," in which super-intelligent primates overthrow humans. "To humanize them is to cause harm. Where would they live and what would they do? Do not create a being that can't have a meaningful life in any context," Glover said. But Chinese scientist Su accused Western critics, and Sikela in particular, of hypocrisy and recklessness, saying that the project was being unfairly judged by Chinese research "stereotypes." "Exploring the genetic mechanism of human brain evolution is a major issue in the natural sciences, and we will continue our exploration," he said. |

When a bankruptcy is filed, it begins with the bankruptcy court entering an order for relief. There is a reason it is called that. Nobody wants to file for bankruptcy, but sometimes it is the only way to get relief from crushing debt. Most clients who end up filing for bankruptcy, however, would never have thought they were going to file. Here are some signs that you may be on the path to bankruptcy, according to a report by http://bodiebankruptcylaw.com. 1.Your credit cards balances are near their limits: If you find your credit cards are all about to hit their limit, that is a sign that something is wrong. 2.You have no way to save: Whether it is for a rainy day, a vacation fund, just in case, or for retirement, we all want to save money. If you find that you have to stop contributing to your retirement account, or are unable to save any money each month, that is a sign that your finances may be in trouble. Debt shouldn’t swallow up so much of your income that nothing is left for savings, 3.You are unable to earn enough to pay down debt: If you find yourself unable to make any meaningful dent in your balances, that is not a good sign. Credit cards can be a very useful tool. They can also spiral out of control. If you find that the minimum costs each month to maintain the balances is all you can afford, the first step is trying to lean down your monthly budget. You can also try to work overtime. If after leaning down your monthly budget or trying to add overtime you still can’t get any traction paying down debt, then you may have reached a point where it is no longer realistic to ever get out from under your debt without bankruptcy. 4.You forego needed items to keep up with your debt: Not going shopping as often, or not buying the newest smartphone is not a problem. Those things are all part of smart money management. If you find yourself foregoing necessary items however, such as health insurance coverage, or vehicle repairs, then there may be a problem. When you are skipping on necessities to keep up with debt, that is not a good sign. 5.You are taking out loans against retirement accounts or life insurance policies to stay current on debt: Raiding your retirement account to try to finally get a hold of debt is never a good idea. Retirement account loans may seem like a solution, but they come with large monthly payments that get automatically deducted right out of your pay cheque. Almost always the retirement account loan is a precursor to being right back where you were, but this time with the added problem of a large retirement account loan payment. 6.Despite balancing payments, you can’t seem to get new credit any more: If you are current on payments but you still can’t seem to get approved for anything, it is probably because your overall debt load is so high that you look like a big risk to lenders. When they see your debt, they know that the odds of paying it back are not good. 7Robbing Peter to pay Paul: If you find yourself borrowing from one creditor to make payments on another that’s a sign of a serious cash flow problem. The worst version of this is when people alter their income tax deductions and reduce the amount of income tax deducted from their pay cheques to have a larger amount available each month. That decision always catches up with them when it is tax time. The end result is you probably still owe the other creditors but now you have added one of the most difficult debts to get rid of and one of the most powerful creditors out there. 8.Your bank account goes negative during a month: Your bank account shouldn’t be going negative. If you find that you are bouncing payments and keep going negative before that next pay cheque, that is a strong sign that the current plan is not working and that bankruptcy is likely on the horizon. 9.You are behind on your home or vehicle loan: Homes and cars are priorities one and two. A home is most people’s largest lifetime investment and it is the place their family lives. People don’t go into default on their mortgage unless the situation is dire. Similarly, without a car, you can’t get to work. If you are in default on your mortgage or car loan, you are past the point where you need to call a bankruptcy attorney. 10.Creditors are calling and sending letters, or have sued you: Once you are far enough in default that you are being hounded by creditors, it is undoubtedly bankruptcy time. Debt collection starts a cycle that is nearly impossible to get rid of. Creditors calling incessantly and sending harassing letters means things have reached a breaking point. Eventually they will sue and you will face garnishment or levy. If you are at this stage, it is time to get relief – by calling a bankruptcy attorney to see about your bankruptcy options. An extremely important debate is raging online – This is more complicated than you might think. Put your politics aside, because people are arguing on Twitter over something else for once. Do straws have one hole, or two? At the time of writing, two thirds of the 85,000 or so people who voted in Twitter user Jess Marfisi’s initial poll thought straws had one hole. But before you jump to conclusions, let’s take a look at the facts. If a straw really is “just a long plastic donut” then it has just one hole, right? Well, some people were arguing for two holes, and you can see what they’re getting at. Straws have an entrance and an exit, which could also mean they have two holes. If we remove straws from the equation completely, what does that leave us with? If a wall has a door in it, that just counts as one hole, so surely it’s the same for straws? It gets even more complicated. What about adding an extra hole in the middle of the straw? Does that change your mind? This is a discussion that can turn friend against friend, or at least distract everyone in the office for half an hour. They were arguing against the very boundaries of the debate itself. So what is the right answer? Well, the Oxford English Dictionary definition of a hole is a “hollow place in a solid body or surface”. That makes it sound like the empty space within the straw is the single hole, rather than there being one at each end. Rigid dictionary definitions aside, the truly enlightened concluded that really, there was no right answer. source: https://uk.yahoo.com/news/extremely-important-debate-raging-online-173537074.html

CNN)Thirty years after the Jamaican bobsled team captured hearts around the world, three women from Nigeria stand on the brink of making history of their own in the same event. Driver Seun Adigun and brakewomen Akuoma Omeoga, Ngozi Onwumere have qualified for Pyeongchang 2018, ensuring an African nation will be represented in the sport at the Winter Olympics for the first time ever. Despite numerous success stories in the summer Games -- notably gold in the men's football at Atlanta 1996 -- no Nigerian has ever competed in a Winter Olympic event before. Now, after completing all five qualifying races, the Nigerian women's bobsled team are on their way to South Korea in February. "Ecstatic to say the least!" posted the Bobsled & Skeleton Sports Federation of Nigeria (BSFN). "To see a mere dream come to reality is a true blessing." "Their hard work was inspiring and I hope Nigerians can appreciate what it took for them to achieve this," said BSFN president Solomon Ogba. Seun Adigun at the London 2012 Olympics. 32-year-old woman who was born with two vaginas is now pregnant. Her pregnancy has continued to baffle her doctors, as she had been told that it would be impossible for her to have children. Her vaginas lay right next to the other. Doctors said Krista Schwab would never get pregnant because of complications caused by her rare condition called uterus didelphys. The horse trainer, who was diagnosed when she was 12, has two vaginas, two cervixes and two wombs. But as she considered IVF, she suddenly discovered to her amazement that she was expecting. Krista, from Washington, USA, said: “After being diagnosed with uterine didelphys at 12 years old, I knew I had two uteruses and two cervixes. “But when I was 30, I found out that I also have two vaginas that are side by side. I always felt the separate sections during intercourse and smear tests, but I just thought that feeling was a normal thing every woman had. “For so many years, my husband and I cried, prayed and dreamed of having a child. We both had so many breakdowns because we wanted one so much. “After probably 1,000 negative pregnancy tests, it got to the point where I gave up wishing anymore. “Last December, I put on weight; so I bought my billionth pregnancy test which my husband and I thought was just now a waste of money. “I normally pray and hope while I wait, but this time, I lost all hope and didn’t bother. Then I saw it – it was positive. I hit the floor crying.” Aged just 13, doctors had warned Krista that she could never have children. Then, two years ago, she learned she also had two vaginas as part of the condition. She added: “It was a massive shock, especially for my husband! Doctors and I couldn’t see it because it was too far inside. “Sex is extremely sensitive and can hurt – it affects my sex life and my self-confidence.” She suffered two miscarriages as her and husband Courtney, 33, gave up hope of a child. “However my husband and I joke around about it all the time. “I actually got pregnant when I was 15 and 20, but I had miscarriages for both. “When I met my husband at 20 years old, I told him I couldn’t have kids. So, the whole time I’ve been together with my husband, we didn’t use protection.” Krista is now five months pregnant and expecting a baby boy, which is growing in her left womb. Most women with uterine didelphys have to have C-section, but Krista is hopeful she might not need one. She added: “Because of my two vaginas, the baby will have to come down the left side vagina. “Doctors think I’ll have to have a C-section, but I’m dreaming of a natural water birth. “It’s incredible because doctors still don’t understand it. The fact that I’m pregnant on the left side and it’s impossible for the egg to get there. “I am scared that he will get stuck, one vagina is much smaller, if they were both one vagina it’d be a normal size. “Ten years of trying to have a baby, it just happened. I want women with uterine didelphys to never let anyone tell them miracles can’t happen, because they do.” Dr. Nick Raine-Fenning, spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists said: “The uterus forms in-utero by the fusion of two tubes, which are called the Mullerian ducts.” Source: http://punchng.com/woman-with-two-vaginas-pregnant-despite-doctors-claim-shes-infertile/
