Family / Re: Raising A Child To Speak English In Nigeria: Is It Proper? by icnsystem(m): 3:35pm On May 06, 2013
It's widely believed in the west that sub-sahara African lack strong sense of identity.Though as a black African i found this analysis very insulting and repulsive. But a careful reflection and study of our society will attest to the authenticity of this claim.Nowhere across the world are kids forced to speak foreign languages and culture at the expense of mother's tongue at home.
Even ex-British colonies of India,pakistan,west-indies,e.t.c, children are raised with native language and culture thereby giving them very strong sense of identity. But Today,it's only in sub-sahara Africa,we have these backward mentality that equates fluency in English as measure of intelligent quotient. That is the biggest lie and propaganda.A sub-Sahara African child raised at home with native language and culture fare better in life intellectually & morally than the kids raised entirely with western values and language.Conduct an empirical research before antagonising me.
Back in my days in school, we were told that speaking our native language was vernacular and we pay fine if anyone is caught speaking native language in class. That's the greatest fraud and blackmail accepted by our parents because they lack sense of identity. Most socio-cultural values of sub-sahara Africa origin are fast vanishing because our parents denied us values that reflect our heritage through native language. We know that written tradition is easier to pass to next generation than oral tradition. That's sub-sahara's misfortune
Even if you have FIRST CLASS PHD in English or other foreign language there are still core socio-cultural values you cannot decipher from these foreign language. Not until i travelled to Europe,i never knew that the white man blackmailed us by telling us our language was vernacular and speaking queens English is sign of intelligence and accomplishments. What a fraud

We do not believe that in this country freedom is reserved for the lucky, or happiness for the few. We recognize that no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us at any time may face a job loss, or a sudden illness, or a home swept away in a terrible storm. The commitments we make to each other through Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security, these things do not sap our initiative, they strengthen us. (Applause.) They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great. (Applause.)

Politics / Re: Pictures Of Nigerian Troops Arrival In Mali by icnsystem(m): 5:21pm On Jan 18, 2013
This is not the time to criticize our military in Mali.If we refuse to discourage these Jihadist from spreading their campaign of terror,Nigeria and the whole Africa will surely pay huge price for sitting on the fence.
Our Troops should be supported, encouraged and well motivated to perform this supreme price of securing our peaceful co-existence and future. This is not the time to talk from both side of the mouth on security issues. Our sense of communal survival should be stronger than ever because,we are all in this together. We have decided to send our Son,Daugther,Brother,uncle,cousin,niece,sister,e.t.c,in "HARM'S WAY".Criticizing them now is tantamount to exposing their flanks to terrorists.
My prayer is that non of our military men in Mali should die, kidnapped or held hostage in terrorist or enermy(s)den. As a citizen of this great nation,i personally share their Joy and Pain in the battle to secure our freedom..WE SHALL NEVER MOURN THEM BUT CELEBRATE AND SAVOUR THEIR SWEET VICTORY.Because through their supreme sacrifice our Freedom to worship the supreme being in whatever way we damned fit is surely guaranteed.GOD BLESS THESE MEN & WOMEN OF GREAT ENCOURAGE

We are in this mess today because some Nigerian citizens have no single sense of personal identity, entitlement and decency. In a brash attempt to defend infamy, they throw their heritage and birthright to the dogs.Lack of sound education, poverty syndrome, paternal deficiency and neurological disorder have make some folk useless that they lost the capacity to engage in intellectual discourse.

As a criminal that captured the governor's office by altering and concealing his criminal records, identity & looted state's treasury,MR,James Onanefe Ibori ,his cronies, family & others across the federation should be barred from accessing state fund or benefit (pension),but if these felons are to enjoy state funds via pension, then what is wrong dedicating funds to appease Boko-Haram,Kidnappers,armed-robbers & other miscreants? After all,the root of these violent crimes are attributable to greed, recklessness and shortsightedness of our elite. or is someone saying some criminals are more handsome than the other? But hold on !I'm not in anyway advocating that any criminals should be rewarded in cash or kind. But James Ibori earning pension from state he onsciously looted has serious consequence and precedence..Paying him pension is an encrypted coded message and signal to Criminals of different shades and background. We must pay serious attention to our sense of reward!Quoted from:

Crime / Man Hides 2.6KG Of Cocaine In Roasted Chicken by icnsystem(m): 11:24pm On Sep 01, 2012
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the weekend arrested an auto technician in connection with 2.655kg of cocaine hidden inside roasted chicken.
The seizure was made at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos during the inward clearance of passengers on a Turkish Airline flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The street value of the seized drug is about N24 million.

The NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, who gave the name of the suspect as Vincent Chegini Chinweuwa, described the seizure as remarkable.
Umar explained that the suspect had given investigators useful information.
“We discovered 2.655kg of cocaine hidden inside roasted chicken. It is a remarkable seizure because no one would have imagined cocaine worth several millions inside roasted chicken,” Hamza stated.

During interrogation, the suspect said he thought that the drug will not be detected.

Chinweuwa said: “It took me three days to pack the cocaine inside the roasted chicken.
“I was confident that the drug will not be detected.
“I have been living in Brazil since 2006.
“Life has been stressful because I cannot even visit my wife in Nigeria due to lack of money.
“I wanted some money to start any business of my choice back home.
“Unfortunately, I was disappointed upon arrival in Lagos.”

Meanwhile, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, said that spectacular seizures like this will help to discourage others from the criminal drug trade.
“The suspect thought his mode of drug concealment was perfect but we proved him wrong. Several drugs cleverly hidden by drug barons have been discovered and we shall continue to detect drugs regardless of the mode of concealment,” Giade said.
The suspect, who hails from Imo State, will soon be charged to court.

Sports / Cameroon Athletes Go Missing From Olympics by icnsystem(m): 10:29pm On Aug 07, 2012
Seven Cameroon athletes have disappeared while in Britain for the London Olympics, according to the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.

The seven - five boxers, a swimmer and a footballer - are suspected of having left to stay in Europe for economic reasons.

"What began as rumour has finally turned out to be true. Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village," David Ojong, the mission head said in a message sent to the ministry.

Ojong said a reserve goalkeeper for the women's football team, Drusille Ngako, was the first to disappear. She was not one of the 18 finally retained after pre-Olympic training in Scotland.

While her team-mates left for Coventry for their last preparatory encounter against New Zealand, she vanished. A few days later, swimmer Paul Ekane Edingue and his personal belongings were also not found in his room.

Ojong added that five boxers eliminated from the games, Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, disappeared on Sunday from the Olympic village.

International Olympic Committee officials said on Tuesday they had heard nothing about the missing athletes.

"We are unaware of it," IOC spokesman Mark Adams said when asked whether organisers had heard of it.

It is not the first time Cameroonian athletes have disappeared during international sports competitions.

At past Francophonie and Commonwealth games as well as junior football competitions, several Cameroonians have quit their delegation without official consent.

Crime / Love Of Sardines ...turns Woman To ‘drug Courier’ by icnsystem(m): 7:18am On Jul 19, 2012
SHE came to Nigeria to visit her boyfriend and as she was going, he allegedly gave her a parting gift: a carton of sardines, because she loved to eat them.

That was what 39-year- old South African woman, Duru Gcinukwazi Lindiwe told National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

But, she might not be eating sardines for sometime to come, because during the outward screening of passengers on a South African Airline flight to Johannesburg, it was discovered that inside the tins of sardine, Lindiwe, a street cleaner in Johannesburg, was carrying as well as in her luggage, were 5.5 kilogrammes of substance found to be methamphetamine.

The NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar said that a detailed search carried out on her based on suspicion yielded results as the drugs discovered have an estimated street value of N15 million. .

According to Hamza: “She was travelling with a carton of sardines. When one of them was opened, the content was methamphetamine. Some of the drugs were also packed in a false bottom of her luggage.”

Married with a daughter, Lindiwe told narcotic detectives in her statement that her love for sardines has turned sour since her arrest.

In her words: “I love sardines for salad and sandwich. My Nigerian boyfriend gave me the carton of sardines as a gift because I love sardines. When my bag was searched at the airport, 5.5 kilogrammes of methamphetamine was found and I was arrested. I am missing my eight-year-old daughter because I travelled to the Philippines to study music for over one month. I was only in Nigeria to visit my boyfriend before going back to South Africa”.

The Chairman of the NDLEA, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade said that efforts were ongoing to apprehend more persons in connection with the illegal exportation of methamphetamine to South Africa.

According to Giade, “We have launched a full- scale investigation into the case and we expect to arrest other members of the drug cartel.

“Drug traffickers are warned to quit the criminal act or face severe sanctions under the NDLEA Act.

“ Meanwhile, she will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.”

It would be recalled that in December 2011, another South African lady, Nene Fikile Happy-Girl, 38 years old, was caught with illegal drugs while attempting to board an Emirate flight to Malaysia.

She excreted 55 wraps of substances that tested positive for methamphetamine weighing 700 grammes.

According to the NDLEA spokesman, Mitchel Ofoyeju, methamphetamine also known as ‘meth’ is popular in Europe and quite expensive even more than cocaine.

The drug is known to increase alertness, concentration, energy and in high doses, can induce euphoria, enhance self-esteem and increase libido.

Romance / My Ex-commissioner Wife Returned Home Without Pant –----ex Adviser To Governor by icnsystem(m): 8:40am On Jun 28, 2012
David Erhabor, husband of a former commissioner in Edo State, Florence Igbinigie-Erhabor, on Wednesday, told a Benin High Court, that his wife of 15 years once came home without putting on pant.

He said, “There was a day she came back home drunk and without a pant on her. She was in the habit of keeping late nights.”

David while testifying in a divorce suit, No HAB/16D/2011, instituted by his wife, a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, under Chief Lucky Igbinedion, told the court he did not envisage a broken home in his life.

The respondent said trouble started after his wife was appointed commissioner, after which he said she began keeping late nights.

David, an ex-Senior Adviser to former Governor Oswerhiemen Osunbor, told the court that there was a time the wife abandoned their two children, absconded from home for three days, “only to be caught red-handed inside a vehicle, romancing and kissing a man who had earlier gassed him.”

David recalled that it took the intervention of a former chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Community Development Commission, Chief Wellington Okrika, to resolve some of their matrimonial crises.

He also said his wife had once demanded N1m from him before she could allow him to have sex with her, adding that on another occasion, he ran from home when he sensed that his wife was planning to send hired assassins after him.

On the custody of their children, David said they could always stay with whoever they chose when on holidays.

Florence among other prayers is asking the court to grant her divorce on the grounds of threat to life, violent assault and infidelity on the part of her husband.

The former commissioner, who has since 2009 separated from her husband, is demanding that she should be paid N150, 000 as monthly upkeep for each of their children. She also wants Erhabor to be compelled to pay the children’s school fees.

While being crossed-examined by David’s lawyer, Mr. Akakhomen Austine, Florence said her husband had at a time squeezed the children inside a vehicle and threatened to set them ablaze. She said it took the intervention of members of both families to broker peace.

The former commissioner said she had been solely responsible for the children’s upkeep, including payment of their school fees over the past years.

She added that the children had been living in her family house where she relocated to when she suspected that her husband was after her life.

She also accused David of having extra-marital affair with their housemaid.

Justice Anthony Erhabor adjourned the case till August 4 for further hearing.

Religion / Pastor Killed In Rattlesnake Attack During Church Service by icnsystem(m): 5:03pm On May 31, 2012
A Pentecostal pastor famed for handling snakes during church sermons has died after being bitten by a rattlesnake.Mark “Mack” Wolford, 44, was well-known across the US state of Virginia for his lively church services, which included handling dangerous snakes in a ‘test of faith’. But the pastor died after being bitten by a rattlesnake he had owned for years, mirroring the death of his own father in 1983.

Holding an outdoor service in which serpents where passed around among church members, Wolford was bitten in the thigh by a yellow rattlesnake as he sat on the floor next to it. The service was quickly disbanded as the pastor was taken to family member’s house to recover, but he later died in hospital from poisoning.

Wolford had been bitten on three previous occasions, but did not seek medical attention as he regarded the injury as a test of faith.

“He helped me to understand the faith instead of just documenting it,” photographer and eyewitness Lauren Pond told the Washington Post. “He was one of the most open pastors I’ve ever met. He was a friend and a teacher.”

“I didn’t see the bite, I saw the aftermath” she added.

The group of serpent handlers follow the gospel of Mark, which states: “And these signs will follow
those who believe...they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Nairaland / General / General Overseer Leads Robbery Gang by icnsystem(m): 4:41pm On May 03, 2012
SATANIC PASTOR!
General Overseer who doubles as leader of robbery gang, nabbed
•How he uses Bible, charms for operations
A suspected evil pastor who allegedly doubled as the ring leader of a deadly gang of armed robbers has been nabbed. Pastor and General Overseer of a ministry in Eket, Akwa-Ibom, one pastor Eze was arrested by the operatives of Ondo State Police Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) who trailed him to Eket, Akwa-Ibom after being exposed by members of his gang.

The deadly four-man gang that specialized in snatching of high profile cars and Sports Utility Vehicles(SUV) according to police sources had been terrorizing residents of Akure, Ondo State capital, and Ilesha in Osun State before they met their waterloo. The 41-year old pastor popularly known as Chairman was said to be the sole receiver of the cars snatched from innocent people and disposed them off in Akwa-Ibom.

It was gathered that whenever Pastor Eze and his gang went for operation he would stay in an hotel while the four gang members would be carrying out their nefarious activities of snatching cars on the road . When the car has been snatched it would be taken to the Pastor in the hotel. The Pastor would drive the stolen car to Akwa Ibom where it would be sold . One of such stolen vehicle was said to have been sold for N2.5million

On March 6, 2012, Pastor Eze and his gang stormed Akure. He lodged in an hotel as usual and his gang members double-crossed a woman, one Mrs Olubunmi who was driving an SUV along FUTA Road and snatched her car. The car was taken away and when information got to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), it swung into action and got one of the gang members arrested in Akure .

Speaking with our reporter, Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Police Command, Mr Edgar Nanakumu said the command has been facing a serious problem of combating car snatchers within the state. “We have received several complaints of car snatching and immediately the information came to us about this latest one. I quickly mobilized men of SARS and they swung into action and arrested one of the gang members and he confessed that one Pastor Eze who was their gang leader always sold the snatched cars at Akwa Ibom State.”

Nanakumu explained that the policemen had to travel to Eket in Akwa Ibom State and arrested the said Pastor who happened to be the General Overseer (GO) of a church which has a large congregation in Akwa Ibom. He was arrested with charms, ritual rings and Bible in his house. Pastor Eze, according to the Ondo CP confessed right in Akwa Ibom that he is the leader of the gang of armed robbers and the receiver of snatched cars and that he used to sell them at Akwa Ibom State. CP Nanakumu said that the policemen arrested the four members of the robbery gang and that they confessed their operations in several states.

Some of the victims are said to have visited the police headquarters to identify their snatched cars and most of them have confirmed that the recovered cars were theirs. One of the victims, one Mr Sola told our reporter that “ It was a bitter experience when he was robbed and the hoodlums snatched his car. He said he had to report the matter at the Police Command .“The police did their best , they couldn’t succeed . It was when I heard the information that the police have been able to arrest some suspects that I came to check if they were those that snatched my car and I was able to identify one of the suspects. I am highly impressed by the police effort,” he said.

Another victim, one Mrs Olubunmi said: “I was greeting my friend when suddenly four armed men double crossed me with their Honda Accord Car and succeeded in taking my car away. I quickly went to report the incident at the police station. The police tried their best as they swung into action but the robbers escaped.“I was impressed when the story got to me that the Police have arrested some of the suspects in Akure . I was able to identify two of the suspects,” she said.

The suspected ringleader, in his confession said:“ I have a ring which the police recovered from me. I used the ring for power to bail out people from their problems . When a woman is not pregnant and I touched her with the ring, she would get pregnant. I used to deceive some of them and sleep with the women who came to church for counseling.

CP Nanakumu said the command has been able to arrest the four suspects. He said that the command is still investigating the matter and that when it is concluded the suspects would be charged to court.

Apparently, nobody is expecting this Judge to admit his lousy & flawed Judgement (After Back Door Deal) .But,he should not insult Nigerians by telling us that Ibori's case lacked merit to warrant conviction. When a public officer, who has no other source of income is living far far larger and buying everything under the sun, every probing & sound mind should know better that something is missing somewhere. This Judge is talking from both side of his mouth.I'm not persuaded!
Politics / Ibori’s Looting Case: My Conscience Is Clear —justice Awokulehin, by icnsystem(m): 9:15am On Apr 24, 2012
JUSTICE Marcel Idowu Awokulehin who exonerated former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, now serving 13 years jail term in the United Kingdom, has stated that his conscience is clear over the clean bill he granted the convict.

The judge, who was making reference to his judgment over Ibori’s case at the hearing of a case involving a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant, Terver Kakii and Governor Gabriel Suswam at the Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, recently enjoined Governor Suswam’s lead counsel, Mr Jubrin Okutepa SAN, who argued on how a local publisher in the state dragged the judiciary through the mud in his publication not to be disturbed with any publication against the judiciary “once your conscience is clear.”

According to the judge, “let me give you an instance, I read a column in This Day newspaper over my ruling in the case involving James Ibori. The columnist, in his write-up said he wondered what will be running through my mind now that Ibori had admitted guilt in London to the case I exonerated him of.”

Justice Awokulehin further said that there was a sharp difference between criminal law in Nigeria and Britain, stressing that Nigerian law states that any criminal law should be proved beyond reasonable doubt while that of Britain is inference.

The judge, who is based in Nasarawa State but was assigned to handle the case which had suffered a setback, said “I am always guided by the submission of Justice [Dahiru] Musdapher who said that one should not mind what people say as long as your conscience is clear in your decision.

“What the Nigerian law says over criminal case is that such allegations must be proved beyond reasonable doubt, which is different from British law which is based on inference. What happens there is to assume, so, SAN, do not border about what the witness wrote.”

Mr Okutepa SAN had in his cross-examination of the witness, one Faatever in the case between Terver Kaaki and Governor Gabriel Suswam over last year’s primary election before the judge, said that the witness who is also a local publisher had rubbished the integrity of the judiciary in his local paper, accusing some judges of the Appeal Court of bias.

It will be recalled that former Governor Ibori was last week sentenced to 13 years in prison, having admitted stealing money from his state and laundering it in London totaling over 79 million US dollars.
