Japan is not taking it easy on consumer tech these days with the invention of amazing wearables. Recently, a new blink-triggered camera – Blincam , which attaches to your pair of glasses allowing you snap pictures with just a wink, was developed by a team of young Japanese.

Blincam is smart enough to discern between an intentional blink and a natural blink. The Blincam is 90 percent accurate at picking up a forceful blink using its patent-pending blink sensor. Using Bluetooth, the Blincam then sends the photo a smartphone, the developers say.

Although, blink-triggered cameras are not new, Google in 2013 introduced its Google Glass concept, an augmented-reality headset that snap photos and shoot videos without the apparent social gesture of pointing a phone, the team hopes to standout by adding a blink-to-shoot camera to any pair of glasses, so you can save what you see, anytime anywhere. The camera also packs a decent four-hour battery life or eight-hour life on standby.

In May, Hyundai expanded its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto availability by way of a user-installed update. Now it’s Kia’s turn, with multiple Kia vehicles becoming compatible with the phone systems.

Corning, the manufacturer of the glass on your smartphones has unveiled its latest version of Gorilla Glass. Tagged Gorilla Glass 5, the new glass was formulated to improve drop performance from gadgets that are dropped onto rough surfaces from certain heights — specifically, waist height to shoulder height.

The new glass is the successor to Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which was introduced in 2014. Gorilla Glass 4 was said to be twice as tough as the previous version of its glass and twice as likely to survive drops onto uneven surfaces — but only from about a meter high.

Turkey has blocked access to WikiLeaks, after about 300,000 emails and 500,000 documents from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), were put online as Ankara grapples following, a failed military coup.

The emails date from 2010 to 6 July this year. Obtained before the attempted coup, the date of their publication was brought forward “in response to the government’s post-coup purges”, WikiLeaks said, adding that the source of the emails was not connected to the coup plotters or to a rival political party or state.

CNN is set to launch a new multi-platform operation in Lagos, designed to give the network a nimble, broad-based, digital-first presence in Africa’s most populous country.

Piloting the operation is Stephanie Busari, who takes on the role of Supervising Producer, Africa. Busari will work across CNN’s newsgathering and digital operations, and will be the network’s first responder for all platforms.

Deborah Rayner, Senior Vice President, Newsgathering at CNN International, said: “This is a truly integrated role, and one that underlines CNN’s commitment to both Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Stephanie will work across our platforms on both news and feature content. In particular, she will head CNN’s Africa content across digital – responding to breaking news and managing our Africa features projects. She will also be central to CNN International’s coverage of the continent on television.”

To return to Nigeria at such an important time in the country’s history is a proud and exciting moment for me.
