Me : gud morning V.O: Silent Me: Good morning ma V.O: pass me ur documents please She scan through my documents starting with my passport then spent more time looking at my I-20. Noticed I was awarded a scholarship of almost half the tuition. V.O: Why do you want to do MPH Me: I gave her a convincing and detailed answer. V.O : Nods head and ask: why U.S Me: told her about hw committed U.S is to excellence, flexibility and all dat V.O : who is ur sponsor Me: My dad Asked for his statement and I gave her V.O: looked through the statement for like a minute, then turned to her computer and was busy typing, then she handed a white paper to me and said sorry bla bla bla. And returned my passport and I-20. The first sentence is ' dear applicant, this is to inform u dat u hv been found in eligible under section 214(b) of the U.S immigration and nationality act. A denial under section...................means u did nt meet d requirments of d classification of d non immigrant visa for which u applied for'

landuseact: . I think sey na only me notice o, it's polite to greet good morning or good afternoon depending on the time of day. Whether you choose to add ma or sir is your personal choice that americans don't really care about but saying dt indicates desperation rings false. Cultures are different and nigerians are very 'respectful' in their greeting. On the other hand saying 'hey, what's going on' to a complete stranger could make you come across as cocky. My 2 cents o Americans are not. Salutations like "hey! What's going on" help a lot.... 1) The consular will give u a big smile and tend to make your interview interesting.. Which brings the confidence in you. 2) You already explained to the consular that you are not desperate 3) you already expressed that you have alternative. I don't know if you've gotten your visa, if you haven't, pay attention to other people's interview prior to yours, and you'd know if you are to use my idea or your 2 kobo. All the best! |

stevecrun: You don get visa..that's why its easier for you to say this..
You're asking a visa applicant to walk up to a visa officer first thing in the morning and say to him/her *Hey!how's it going*..Na wa oo
Greeting and respect, takes people far bro..a person's politeness and respect can get you where you never imagined to be.
Hope Michigan,is treating you fine, though!! during my interview, the first question the consular asked me was: "hey! How are u today" and I said: "kinda cool, hope u good?" You should see the big smile the consular put on. I never said something like:"I'm fine sir" All I'm trying to say is: Americans love it when you talk to them like a friend. Do u even notice that if your salutation sounds "too respectful," they won't reply u, or reply u with a straight face? You won't really understand my point until you get here. And you only talk about respect when you are in Nigeria, it doesn't exist here.... All they can deduce from your being respectful is you are desperate about something. FYI, salutations like "Hey! How's it going" are the ways they greet each other here; in office, school, everywhere!! It's synonymous to saying; "how are you" , how are you doing or "how's everything" Saying any of these would make them feel like home, and treat u like a brother/sister. Asides the freezing snow here, Michigan is treating me absolutely well. |

vajayi: Thnx all for ur information ,will try and reapply.i appreciate u all.God bless u peeps for d advise. why don't you post the full transcript? You don't need to hide anything, the gurus here will correct your mistakes. To me, I don't think you were denied based on neither pregnancy nor SEVIS payment. The consular would have asked about your SEVIS confirmation letter, if at all she wanna deny you on that basis. I'm pretty sure your response led to your denial... Trust me, your MSc from the UK is an advantage in getting your U.S. Visa. Also, to the people going for interview soon, please and please and please, don't act too respectful or too desperate. Americans hate those characteristics. The likes of greeting the consular by saying "good morning ma" sounds like you are begging them, instead say something like "Hey! How's it going?" Or "hey! What's going on?" Don't act too desperate, instead act like you have an alternative. Americans live a simple life. They love it when people take something slow. They tend to avoid you whenever they sense desperation... I wish y'all good luck!!!! To my goons here in Obamaland, how y'all celebrating thanksgiving day? |

Dear Nairalanders, There's something I'd like to share with u guys. Here, there's "concurrent admission." That is, while you are a student in a university, u can as well run as a guest student at a community college (N.B-- trust me, there are lots of community colleges around your desired university). By enrolling, you'll be taking at least 6 credits in your university and the remaining in the CC. This will split your tuition expense into half....
It doesn't require any stress, as soon as U get into your U.S. University, just apply as a guest student in the nearest CC... You might need to speak with your advisor tho.
You guys have a good one! |
