The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has accused Rickey Tarfa, a senior Nigerian lawyer, of having a long history of manipulating courts and improperly communicating with judges. The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Tuesday took a swipe at lawyers and journalists in Nigeria, saying they connive with criminals to subvert the course of justice and frustrate war against corruption. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Tijjani Abdullahi as the new Director-General in charge of the Budget Office of the Federation. The President also approved the appointment of Ben Akabueze as the Special Adviser on Planning to the Minister of Budget and National Planning. The Nigerian Army has set up a court-martial to try cases of misconduct, indiscipline, among other misconducts that led to recent deadly attacks on Dalori and other Borno communities. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested and detained the immediate past Chief of Air Force, Adesola Amosu. Mr. Amosu, an air vice marshal, who was retired last year, alongside other military chiefs, is allegedly being detained over allegation of corruption in arms procurement during his tenure. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he would, at the “appropriate time”, open up on the arms money scandal, involving at least $2.1 billion. Kogi State on Wednesday made another unusual history as its fourth democratically elected governor, Yahaya Bello, was sworn in without a deputy. The man nominated by the All Progressives Congress to be Mr. Bello’s deputy, James Faleke, made real his threat not to present himself for swearing in with the governor. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has written the National Assembly accusing the lawmakers of corruption, impunity, greed and of repeatedly breaking the nation’s laws. A senator representing Lagos Central, Oluremi Tinubu, says the 2016 national budgetary allocation of N4 billion to the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is inadequate as it would not cater for the welfare of women who supported the ruling party. The Islamic Movement of Nigeria has released 705 names and photographs of people it said are its members missing since December 12 and 13, 2015, when Nigerian soldiers carried out raids on the sect’s bases in Zaria, Kaduna State. The raids took place after members of the sect barricaded a road, stopping the convoy of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai. The Army said it used force as the blockade was an attempt on Mr. Buratai’s life. The Shi’a group denies attacking Mr. Buratai. Two witnesses brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have told the court how the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, and his company, Dextra Investments Limited, transferred the sum of $2million allegedly collected from the office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. In Nigeria’s ongoing war against corruption, President Muhammadu Buhari will not spare anyone who has a case to answer, and his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, would face justice if guilty, presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, has said. The Nigerian government has concluded plans to declare some top officials of the Goodluck Jonathan administration wanted, in connection with several ongoing corruption investigations. A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, be kept in prison. Justice John Itsoho gave the order Wednesday. Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday ordered the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, remanded in Kuje Prison in the Federal Capital Territory, while his trial for alleged money laundering offences continues. Mr. Metuh pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge of fraud levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday night arrested a former military governor of Kaduna State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Lawal Jafaru Isa. Mr. Isa is the first chieftain of the APC arrested by the EFCC since the beginning of a sweeping probe into the alleged diversion of $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase by officials of the immediate-past administration.
