Health / Child Abuse by idrisaa951(m): 5:55pm On Jun 29, 2021
Child abuse is when someone, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm, or risk of serious harm to a child.

TYPES OF CHILD ABUSE

There are five general types of child abuse:

1. Physical abuse: all forms of physical violence;

2. Emotional or psychological abuse: an adult regularly berates the child, acts in a dismissive and hostile manner towards the child or intentionally scares the child.

3. Physical neglect: the child does not receive the care and nurturing that it needs.

4. Emotional or psychological neglect: continuous lack of positive attention for the child. Ignoring the child’s need for love, warmth and security.
This category also covers cases in which children are witnesses to violence between their parents or caregivers.

5. Sexual abuse: sexual contact which an adult forces upon a child.

Myths and facts about child abuse and neglect

Myth 1

It’s only abuse if it’s violent.
Fact: Physical abuse is just one type of child abuse. Child neglect, or sexual and emotional abuse can inflict just as much damage. Since the signs are not always as obvious, other people may be less likely to intervene.

Myth 2

Abuse doesn’t happen in “good” families.
Fact: Abuse and neglect doesn’t only happen in poor families or bad neighborhoods. These behaviors cross all racial, economic, and cultural lines. Sometimes, families who seem to have it all from the outside are hiding a different story behind closed doors.

Myth 3

Most child abusers are strangers.
Fact: While abuse by strangers does happen, most abusers are family members or others close to the family.

The warning signs of child abuse and neglect aren’t always obvious. But by learning to recognize the signs of a problem, you can make a huge difference in a child’s life.

WARNING SIGNS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT

1. Be excessively withdrawn, fearful, or anxious about doing something wrong.

2. Show extremes in behavior (extremely compliant, demanding, passive, aggressive).

3. Not seem to be attached to the parent or caregiver.

4. Have frequent injuries or unexplained bruises, welts, or cuts. Their injuries may appear to have a pattern such as marks from a hand or belt.

5. Be always watchful and “on alert,” as if waiting for something bad to happen.

6. Shy away from touch, flinch at sudden movements, or seem afraid to go home.

7. Have untreated illnesses and physical injuries.

8. Be frequently unsupervised or left alone or allowed to play in unsafe situations.

9. Display knowledge of sexual acts inappropriate for their age, or even exhibit seductive behavior.

10. Make strong efforts to avoid a specific person, without an obvious reason.

STOP RAPE CULTURE

Rape culture enforces the unhelpful belief that women and men, most especially men cannot be victims of sexual violence.
Because of this, survivors are less likely to report their assaults because they are afraid of not being believed.

Health / Ante-natal Care by idrisaa951(m): 5:30pm On Jun 27, 2021
Antenatal care is the healthcare you receive while pregnant.

It includes a combination of office visits, screening, and diagnostic tests, ultrasounds, counselling, education, emotional and social support, and foetal monitoring (i.e. monitoring foetal growth, heart rate, maternal blood pressure, and screening for signs of premature labour)

BENEFITS OF ANTE-NATAL

1. Learn more about your pregnancy and develop a plan.

Your Antenatal visit doesn't just confirm your pregnancy, it offers you the chance to discuss different procedures and potential scenarios, and address any questions and concerns with a doctor through your pregnancy.

2. Reduce the risk of complications and defects.

Regular screenings, for problems like gestational diabetes, can help prevent complications by detecting it early and providing the right treatment. Screening for congenital abnormalities is at 15-19 weeks.

3. Offer appropriate immunisation.

Vaccines help protect both you and your baby from easily preventable diseases.

4. Get accurate nutritional advice.

Your diet will need to go through changes to accommodate for the nutritional needs of your baby.

5. Keep track of development.

Your child's development inside the womb is a good indicator of their health. During antenatal appointments, your healthcare provider may measure your child to see how your baby is growing.

Health / Vesico Vaginal Fistula (vvf) by idrisaa951(m): 9:45pm On Jun 25, 2021
Vesico Vaginal Fistula is a direct communication between the bladder and vagina is resulting in leakage of urine into the vagina.

This is a major gynecological problem in the country.

It also occurs when the blood supply to the tissues of the vagina and the bladder is restricted during prolonged obstructed labor, the tissues die between these organs, forming holes through which urine can pass uncontrollably.

Nigeria has the highest prevalence of Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) in the world.

Vesico Vaginal Fistula is preventable; it can largely be avoided by:

1. Delaying the age of first pregnancy.
2 The cessation of harmful traditional practices; and
3. Timely access to obstetric care.

I understand you have to work for your minimum wage but even Buhari's very own people lay curses on him than anything, let alone any right thinking person from Southern Nigeria.

If you want to know Nigeria loves him, just ask him to pretend that he is dead for a minute and I assure you that the jubilation from every part of the country will be 10x that of Abacha.

Lies, you said on anything. That's not true. Just tell us no matter what Buhari does, you won't appreciate him. No need lumping everyone to your takes.
Health / Female Genital Mutilation And Islam by idrisaa951(m): 3:49pm On Jun 24, 2021
FGM is seen as an injury and violation of the physical integrity of a female child.
Islamic law and religion only validates circumcision of the male child.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) involves the partial or total removal of external female Instruments or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
The practice has no health benefits for girls and women.

Al-Baihaqi and Abu Dawud have recorded slightly different versions of the hadith. Abu Dawud has followed it with the comment that the chain of transmission of the *hadith is weak and broken in parts (da’if, munqati’).

It is reported that a Madinah woman, Umm Atiyyah, practiced FGM and other women used to go to her for the purpose. Then it is added that the Prophet told her one day: “Oh, Umm Atiyyah! Take the smallest amount (of the skin) so as not to weaken (the body); for it gladdens the face and adds enjoyment for the husband.”

The reports mentioning female genital mutilation (infibulations) are widely regarded as weak traditions amongst Islamic scholars, not to mention unsupported by any Qur’anic verse.
It is practiced only by few among Muslims. If it were a part of Islamic faith, it would have been practiced widely by Muslims everywhere which is not the case.

Africa has the highest prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in the world, including in its most severe forms.

There is not a single verse in the Quran that can be used as a basis for FGM/C; on the contrary there are many verses that condemn the practice.
There are strong stipulations in Islam that upholds the sanctity of the human body; causing harm to the human body without any religious justification is strictly prohibited.

Islamic texts are often used to justify FGM/C in this region; this despite the fact that the majority of the world’s Muslims do not practice it. While there is clear support in the Sunna (Prophet Muhammad’s teachings and actions) for male circumcision in Islam, there is no evidence for FGM/C.

*IMMEDIATE COMPLICATIONS OF FGM*

1. Severe pain
excessive bleeding (haemorrhage)
2. Genital tissue swelling
fever
infections e.g., tetanus
3. Urinary problems
4 Wound healing problems
5 Injury to surrounding genital tissue
6. Shock
7. Death.

*LONG-TERM COMPLICATIONS*

1. Urinary problems (painful urination, urinary tract infections).
2. Vaginal problems (discharge, itching, bacterial vaginosis and other infections).
3. Menstrual problems (painful menstruations, difficulty in passing menstrual blood, etc.).
4. Scar tissue and keloid;
sexual problems (pain during intercourse, decreased satisfaction, etc.)
5. Increased risk of childbirth complications (difficult delivery, excessive bleeding, caesarean section, need to resuscitate the baby, etc.) and newborn deaths.
6. Need for later surgeries.
8. Psychological problems (depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, low self-esteem, etc.)

Events / Re: Has Anyone Here Hired Wedding Guests In Nigeria? by idrisaa951(m): 9:12pm On Jun 23, 2021
Blixon:
Is it possible to hire guests for a wedding in Nigeria? I’m just curious. So please don’t attack me.
I have always dreamed of having a wedding that I would be proud of. AKA posh wedding. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of friends or know many big people and the few people I even know at all are not really posh looking (this is not an insult); what I mean is, you know, these broke guys kind of friends that you have to pay their transport back when they even manage to visit you.

So I have this question: is it possible to hire posh grooms men and a couple of posh guests (including white men and women and money sprayers to act as friends) to pose at a wedding in Nigeria?
I have read it is possible in the USA or other countries. Has anyone come across this in Nigeria?

Health / Pap Smear by idrisaa951(m): 5:48pm On Jun 23, 2021
PAP SMEAR

A Pap smear, also called a Pap test, is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women.

Pap smear involves collecting cells from your cervix, that's the lower, narrow end of your uterus.

Detecting cervical cancer early with a Pap smear gives you a greater chance at a cure.

A Pap smear can also detect changes in your cervical cells that suggest cancer may develop in the future.

Detecting these abnormal cells early with a Pap smear is your first step in halting the possible development of cervical cancer.

WHO SHOULD GO FOR PAP SMEAR?

Healthcare provider recommend beginning Pap testing at age 21.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD IT BE REPEATED?

Doctors generally recommend repeating Pap testing every three years for women ages 21 to 65.

Women age 30 and older can consider Pap testing every five years if the procedure is combined with testing for HPV. Or they might consider HPV testing instead of the Pap test.

Health / Menstrual Stigmatization by idrisaa951(m): 7:58pm On Jun 17, 2021

Stigma, taboos and myths prevent adolescent girls -- and boys -- from the opportunity to learn about menstruation and develop healthy habits.

Health / Sexually Transmitted Diseases (stds/stis) by idrisaa951(m): 9:17am On Jun 17, 2021
WHAT ARE STIs/STDs?

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections or diseases that are passed on during unprotected sex with an infected partner.

This includes vaginal, anal or MouthAction.

Some STDs can be passed on by just skin-to-skin contact.

COMMON STDs INCLUDE:

1. Gonorrhoea
2. Chlamydia
3. Genital herpes
4. Genital warts.
5. Syphilis
6. Hepatitis B
7. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) which can lead to Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
8. Bacterial vaginosis
9. Cystitis
10. Giardia infection (giardiasis)
11. Human papillomavirus (HPV)
12. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
13. Pubic lice

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF STDs

When you contract an STD, you may not have any obvious symptoms. You can feel perfectly okay and not realise you have an infection. But even if you don’t notice any signs the STD could still be making you sick.

Some STD symptoms could include:

1. Unusual discharge from your vagina or penis.
2. Difficulty or pain when you urinate and have sex.
3. Blisters, warts, lumps, bumps or sores on your genitals.
4. Rash, cracked skin, itchy or irritated skin on or around your genital region.

RISK OF COMING DOWN WITH STDs

1. You don’t use condoms during sex or dental dams (a thin latex square held over the vaginal or anal area during MouthAction).

2. You have changed sex partners or had more than one sex partner in the last 12 months.

3. You or your partner share injecting equipment such as a syringes and needles

4. You or your sex partner is infected with a type of STD.

WAYS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF CONTRACTING STDs

1. Have regular STD checks.

2. Limit your sex partners. The fewer people you have sex with, the less chance you have of having sex with someone who has a STD.

3. Always use condoms or dental dams and water-based lubricant.

4. Condoms are the best way to protect you both from STIs.

HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE STD?

If you notice any of the above symptoms, or if you had sex without a condom or a dental dam, you and your sex partner(s) should see a health care provider for an STD check.

Depending on your particular circumstances, this may involve a urine sample, swab and/or blood test.

The earlier you are diagnosed with an STD, the easier it is to treat which also reduces the chances of you developing further health complications
