@blackobico, good day. I have seen your message. I don't know your academic qualification, if B.Sc, you still stand a chance though the opportunities are quite few and far between. Arik Air still sponsors but quite few because a lot of people with PPL go to their office to plead for sponsorship reducing the chances for "freshers". I have been out of circulation and lost my phone so a lot of contacts. I will check on my friends that fly for Aero, Arik and Discovery to know if there are opportunities. For now not much info. Wishing you a great day |
@zeestone, you are welcome. keep me posted. if you have challenges post it here coz u,ll get a faster feedback. You are polite in your approach and that's a plus for you. I wll try as much as I can to assist you even in the admission process at NCAT. When you have done ur part, after ur test and interview. Tell me, I will give you the Registrar's number and reveal my ID. Have a wonderful day. @balash, morning. have you seen "Govt. Approved" written on school sign boards in Nigeria where the school does not have ANY decent building? Am not trying to say ur school is not approved pls. Go to US Embassy and find out. I know the Aviation school in Oklahoma but it does NOT mean it is the ONLY one. Just be sure of where you are going to pls. I would have given you real life event/example that happened to engineers sponsored by the Nig. Govt. the school they went to in the US but if I start, anybody in Aviation from GL 14 may know me and it is not good. I will be violating oath of secrecy. Make sure the school is ACCREDITED. You can post the name of the school here, I might help you thru some of my contacts. Have a great day. Are u ready we meet at the top soon? |
@zeestone99 hey bro/sis... you have the most important contacts that you need as far as that school is concern. NCAT, Zaria offers rotary wing training(their rotary wing is fused(merged)both A & P and Avionics Line Mtce such that ONE personnel can fix an helicopter both mechanically and electrically/electronically just like being Mechanic and Auto electrician). I will not force my opinion on you coz fate has different things for us. Fixed-wing is good. Rotary wing is good but consider the job market and following you passion and the inner voice in you. I still wish you the very best coz I know if you work hard and trust whom/what ever you believe in, we will meet at the top. I believe I have been reasonably objective with information so as to help you make and informed decision. @balash, if you read my posts very well, I told you Standard Flight Operation(SFO) is otherwise call Flight Dispatchers. And that in Airline/aircraft ops, after Pilot is the Dispatcher. Licence from US and Nigeria are the SAME coz they are regulated by an independent organ ICAO. As I had posted earlier, you MAY have better opportunities for schooling in the US bcoz of more Airline operators in the US,etc. All I said previously was please make sure the school you are going to in the US is accredited for the SPECIFIC course by FAA and TRAIN AIR, else you might just be wasting your time and resources coz you may not be licenced. You can also find out the actual cost of the training in Zaria. I wish you the very best. |
@balash, good day. $4000 is approx 600k. and it is not a far-cry from NCAT's approx 800k(this includes ur feeding anyway).. consider filght ticket and living cost in the US Though I believe US training may give you more opportunities but do ur search to make sure the sch runs TRAIN AIR curriculum(the set stds for ALL Aviation Training Organisations(ATO) in the world) and that you will be Licenced by FAA(US aviation regulator). If you live in Lag or ABJ, go to US Embassy and inquire abt the school. 600k no be beans o! The decision is urs. As for entry qualification, US believe that every intelligent person can swap fields and is trainable. i was not FIXED on NCAT qualification. I used "MAY". You can still fnd out from them(NCAT). Keep me posted. wishing you a happy day. |
@zeestone99, you've got a mail. Keep me posted. Wishing you the very best |
@Zeestone99, hey bro/sis, pls am not ignoring you. I am not home yet maybe tomorrow. I do not have access to the e-mail address I will use in sending you the data you need. The data you need will contain sensitive info including pple's(VIPs) phone numbers so I can not drop it in a public forum like this. Pls give me a little time. Thx. @balash, there is no course that is related to Flying. tell the person to go and study Standard Flight Operations(SFO). the person MUST be a graduate of numerical sciences, Physics or other highly mathematical related sciences(but s/he can stl give it a try if a graduate of Sciences). It shd be abt 24weeks. it is a VERY TEDIOUS course. if u make any mistake you WILL FAIL. No jokes. If you pass, you shd get a job before leaving the school or within a month. SFO are employed as Flight Dispatchers. I dont want to dwell on their functions. but in flights/aircraft ops, after Pilot is Dispatcher. their salaries are jaw-dropping. I dont want to mention it. but trust me, you will not envy most telecoms, bankers, etc and even some oil-boys. They are quite few, and exams quite tough(sometimes 40 get admitted, 30 write part I, 8 pass out and 4 get Licence). Dont be scared. if you are serious you will pass. NCAT,Zaria has a lot of goodies to offer so a lot of pple go for the goodies and other beautiful things in Samaru,Paladan, Kongo,Wusasa, etc and miss their goals. Fees shd be maybe 800k but not too sure. but, if need be, I can get it for you. I hope this help. Pls do ur personal research too. My opnion might be subjective though I try to be as objective as possible coz we are all young people. I wish you the very best. Hope we meet at the top someday soon. |

@zeestone99, just read ur post. As much as I dont really like "personal" chats but I appreciate ur eagerness. Am a bit busy now. will send you the basic info you need including phone numbers that can help you. As posted by someone,AFIT,Kaduna may offer somethg but i "think" there may be a lot of restrictions for civilians for security reasons. Am not saying they are not good. I have not visited their facilities yet to know their equipment and faculty(staff). I assume they shd be good. i will keep you posted. Give me a little time. Wishing you a 1daful day. Be good. |
@zeestone99: It is called Airframe & Power Plant(A&P). If you have B.Sc,HND,etc. you will do what is called Abridged Airframe and Power plant(AAP) that is if you are going to NCAT, Zaria. but the truth is that apart from Flying and may be Standard Flight Operations(Flight Dispatchers), aviation jobs are NOT easy to come by. On Nairaland people have differing opinions, but on this, I know what Am talking about. It will take you about 70 weeks(with B.Sc/HND in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering ONLY-they are very discriminatory[strict]). If you are coming with SSC or ND it will take you 120 weeks(Airframe & Power Plant(A &P)(aviation trainings are in weeks). The course and certificate is recognised the world-over. Fees now should be about 3 million naira. But if you are LUCKY to get the job! you will NEVER EVER regret being in Aviation. I will also suggest you do rotary wing(Helicopter). They have better opportunities and I think earn higher. I have a lot of friends in ANY helicopter hiring/flying company in Nigeria so I have a very good idea of their pay. Fixed-wing engineers don't find it easy coz we do not have functional local carriers. Those we have all have foreign technical partners. NCAA, AIB and Airlines do employ/sponsor people. Be checking adverts from AERO, Bristow, Arik(mostly pilots). Avionics is still good(often they function as Flight Engineers, etc) but you do not have Flight Engineers on-board Domestic flights and the international flights are dominated by foreign carriers. Arik would rather have a retiree on contract or foreigner with "enough" type-rating as its flight engineer. Basically, IMO, A & P has better chances. But life is a personal choice Bro! I hope it helps a bit. |
Just read your posts. It's nice to have been of help. Pls, am sorry to say it....I dont like leaving my personal data online. Ask any question here, I will try to answer it. Also, others might benefit. Let's share it here. Am sorry if you are offended. Pls do understand. Thank you |
I have sent you a mail with contact phone numbers in Aviation College. Drop all your comments here. Have a great day. |
They have both. rector@ncatz-ng.org, registrar@ncatz-ng.org. Their website is www.ncatz-ng.org. I had somethng with them but it s not really proper for me to give you phone numbers coz I do NOT know you. I know ALL the Mgt staff of the place and they know me too(my company had a job with them and I was the Coy Rep). The school is reasonably transparent in their admission process(merit) you can only have challenges if a coy like Arik(they do that often), State Govt, etc send their staff/indigenes for training. they will have to accommodate them(admission) before looking at independent candidates. As for the fees, it is not 7 million unless they had to reduce it. SPL was 7 million in 2008 that was when I went to Zaria with Capt Araba as Rector I thnk that was SP23(not too sure). In 2009 when I was stl very active there, the fees in the school were reviewed upwards. And SPL was 8.5 mllion. Fees were not reviewed in 2010 and 2011 after that I dont know. The present Rector was a Chief Instructor in Flying School(All Chief instructors are unofficially referred to as Red-neck Generals). We know each other(first female pilot in Niigeria). The current Registrar was Deputy Registrar and the Deputy Registrar was Assistant Reg. Academics. I dont know who is the current Head of Flying School by name but I can guess. If you have his name, I can give you his phone number. Anyway, if you do not get response from the two e-mail addresses above after two weeks,PM me, I will give you the Deputy Registrar's OFFICIAL phone number. I think they Just started a new session. I hope this helps in some minor ways. |
Good day friend, Am not their staff but reasonably I know what is involved. If you read my initial post, I stated that there is an exit point after PPL....just like having SSC. If you chose to go to the university u can not tell the university to award u an interim degree in Year 3 that afterall u have learnt enough theory. For now you may not appreciate the mportance of instrument/Night flying, with time you will. the "koko" na the "pepe" million million wey them dey call for you! Funny enough...you are insured. if you crash an aircraft during training no wahala(a trainer aircraft such as Tampico or Beachcraft cost upwards of N35million). Insurance covers you...u dont pay for it repair or replacement. soup wey sweet, na money make am! You will be WELL fed and accommodated each student a room to his/herself, clinic, wth standard gym and swmming pool, etc honestly, you will be PROUD you are a "Flyng" student. Have a great day. |
Physics, Geography, Maths, General paper...something like being able to write the Nigerian national Anthem both stanzas and the Pledge. Aviation Minister, etc. Quite minor if you are an average student you should make it. Graduates and School certificate (SSC)holders kind of do same tests but graduates are often given preference in admission while Secondary school leavers are preferred pilots coz graduates often as "WHY"? and it is "DANGEROUS" in flying. It reflect a tendency to 'experiment'. You MUST pass you Medicals with FAR ABOVE average. If you use glasses....hmmmmm you MAY not make it. Just give your best. DONT EVER imagine to cut conners pls. it is NOT obtainable even if your father is the President you can as Suntai(Gov. of Taraba State he did his PPL 2009-2010). If you fail a test, you resit. If you fail resit you are gone and no refunds. No jokes bro! I hope it helps. |
Well, nothing is absolute in the world. But for now officially in Nigeria, you may not be able to do it. It is assumed that you must be trained and equipped for the best opportunities out there in flying. Previously, companies hired PPL and send them for further training, but lately even SPL do not have jobs but if you are quite GOOD the school will not let you go, they will take you as an instructor. The merging of CPL is because aircraft has undergone great changes. you will actually finishes your CPL and will be given your "wings" but you can not graduate coz you need to do Night and Instrument flying, etc. Flying is expensive. Pilots earn GOOD pay bro! If you are ready....take a leap, get the "wings" and the sky will only be your stepping stone. |
All you need to be a pilot is a GOOD O'Levels result in SCIENCE. ARGUABLY, Nigeria has one of the VERY BEST training centers in the world but with the new requirement by the regulators that ALL Air Traffic Controllers MUST have flying experience, the facilities are streched and the 60hrs require for PPL might take you 3 months! so people opt for SA and US. Fees for SPL is abt 10million but NOT too sure. if you are serious I can confirm for you. PPL is about 2.5million. you may not be able to do anythg with PPL except flying as a hobby. CPL had been merged such that after PPL,the next exit point is SPL after which you go for type-rating(the aircraft you wish to fly for you ATPL) which could be fixed-wing or rotary-wing(helicopter). For now the only place I know in Nigeria with authorisation from ICAO as ATO(authorised training Organisation) running TRAINAIR curriculum for PILOT is the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria. it's along Sokoto Road(same road you have ABU. I hope this helps |
OP, there is NO PLACE in Lagos to study Aviation Telecommunications. it is otherwise called Aeronautical Telecommunications Engineering. The first commentator may not understand what you want. ATE iis NOT Avionics. Aeronautical Telecoms Engr(ATE) is only offered at the Nig. College of Aviation Tech, Zaria. if you have anythg less than B.Sc/HND, it is a 90 weeks prog. but with B.Sc/HND it is a 57 week prog divided into 3 terms. you will be licensed by NIG civil Aviation Auth. Fees now shd be 1.3m. it is highly restricted coz of national security issues. you learn about CNS/ATM(communications-Radios...terrstial and Satellites,Safe Tower, etc. Navigation...divided into Landing and Enroute aids...Landing has to do with ILS...localizers, Glide Slope, Marker Beacons? MLs,etc and Enroute...VOR,NDB,DME,etc while S〓Surveillance or RADAR systems) ATM means Air Traffic Management. If you believe what I have posted is useful, drop ur comment I will assist. with all humility, I know what Am talking about SERIOUSLY. Wishing you a great day |
@DeeManna, Good evening. pls check the first page of this thread. I dropped a "reasonably comprehensive" summary of what COREN Tech report looks like. Sending u a sample is not a big deal but I may not get 'home' for a VERY LONG' time coz I am in the field now and I am using my organisation's laptop for my work( I have a lot of restrictions as per coy policy) if somethg takes me home soon, I will send u a copy if what you have here is not detailed enough. Have a pleasant evening. |
You will have to complete your four years then apply to COREN. You will be registered as an Engineering Technologist. It's relatively easy. Just make sure you have reasonable practical exposure it will help. Wishing you the best in your endeavour. |
Hey bro! You have a mail. Chk and keep me posted. |
I read Elect/Elect too bt because of jobs responsibilities... I am somehow vast...tho mostly IT,Telecomms, Proj Mgt, Remote sensing and Geo-spatial surveys and a bit of Satellite and RADAR systems. You will answer questions STRICTLY based on ur Tech Report(during oral exams only). During mine the examiners(2 of them) were confused/shocked wt so many thgs, etc. Just specify where u want ur Licence... ELECTRICAL, ELECTRONICS, COMMUNICATIONS and COMPUTER. Am sure u wl be granted bt I'd suggest u request for Electrical. I dnt knw how urgent u need the sample report, I might sent mine because u R polite bt the one I'll sent is mostly Aviation Telecoms and IT. Bt that myt be next week. Wishing u a happy day. Ciao! |
@wabaracpe, evening. I have sent u a mail. Post all/any request/comments here NOT to the e-mail address I used. U may never get a response if sent 2 d e-mail. Hv a pleasant evening. |
@wabaracpe, evening. Will try and send a sample to you before March 31,2013. I hope it will not be too late. Wishing you a pleasant evening. |
@wabaracpe, good day. Drop a contact e-mail address. I will send a sample to you before March 31,2013. I hope that date will not be too late 4u? Have a pleasant day. |
I have seen what I needed. Just a little above my estimate. Thx 2 all who showed interest. |
@Oila, if u have what I need pls state it here. The type and ur condition(s) if any. Every1 is not a fraud. This is a public forum. U dnt expose ur contact indiscriminately. We'll exchange contact wen we have basic common grounds. Hoping 4 a +ve response 4u. Thx |
We need a very clean pick-up truck(hilux, Mitsubushi L200, Nissan Frontier, etc). It will be used by a construction coy 4 field work. It MUST be a 4x4 (that is must hv auxilliary gear). Use PMS, shd be air conditioned and VERY NEAT. If u have drop d info here. Monthly is 250k. Location is Akwa Ibom State. Looking 4ward 2 gud responses. Thx |
@Arsenally, just read ur post. Am on field support service in d far north as I write. My COREN tech report is on my home PC Am only wt my Lappy. Shd be home b4 20th Feb. I'll send u a sample. Bt, mine is Comms and Electronics so it wl just be a guide. @Obizee316, u dnt need all those. All u need 2 register wt COREN is at least 4yrs postgrad practical expr. U wl be happier if u hv B.Sc not HND. COREN is a regulator while NSE is a professional "club". COREN wl nt fyt 4 ur welfare in d workplace(NSE does) bt COREN certifies ur competence. Read earlier posts, drop ur qtns here added info. I hope this helps. Hv a pleasant day |
enachris: Pls sumone shud help I need a sample of a coren technical report 4 guidanceIf you posted your e-mail address I would have sent you a sample. I visit here(Nairaland) when I am not too busy. May be next time. But if you check my previous post you will see a summary of how COREN report looks like. I wish you a great day. |
You are welcome. I have benefited greatly from this forum too. Please, don't hesitate to help others whenever you have the chance. See you at the top. Have a great day |
@op,I have sent the sample COREN technical report to the e-mail u provided. If you need any info post it here on NL. I don't share my personal data. I created that mail just to assist you(if you sent it to the e-mail I used in sending the report, you may NEVER get a reply from me). I will be checking here for anything from you for another week. I hope it helps. Have a pleasant day. |
