The story of the Nigerian entertainment industry is usually told by detailing the exploits of the talented actors and actresses from its buzzing film and moviemaking haven, Nollywood, or the wave-making afrobeats artistes whose sounds have captured the globe, culminating in several international award wins and nominations, including, most recently, nominations for the Grammy awards. There are however several other players in the industry, who play an important role in gently weaving together the tapestry of the industry in ways that often go unnoticed. One of such players, is Louiza Williams. The Cross River State indigene is currently the artiste manager for G-Worldwide Entertainment, a 360 record label and management company, famed for the discovery of Kizz Daniel and Sugarboy. Louiza, a graduate of Applied Chemistry from the University of Calabar, discovered her passion for entertainment quite early, as she quickly bagged a diploma in Cinematography at the Niger Delta Youth Entertainment Programme. She has received several other certifications, including as a Film and TV Producer from the New York Film Academy. Louiza Williams has managed a potpourri of Nigerian talents, including Waconzy, Kizz Daniel, Sugarboy, Mc Galaxy and she was the Artiste consultant for the famed Calabar Festival. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, as she has received a plethora of award nominations, including the City People Awards (2018), Scream Awards (2018), Beatz Awards (2015), Maya Awards (2015), and the Nollywood Europe Golden Awards 2016 in Germany which she won, for Artiste Manager of the Year. She received a similar award in the Republic of Benin, at the Extreme Awards in 2015. She recently wrapped up production of her feature film debut, Suga Suga, which is set to hit cinemas in Nigeria in April, 2021.

Having worked with the likes of Klint da Drunk, 2shortz, Waconzy, among other top artistes, Louiza Williams, who is currently the Head Artiste Manager at G-Worldwide record label, speaks to DUPE AYINLA-OLASUNKANMI, on her passion, challenges, and relationship with old signee Kiss Daniel and other issues. Excerpts As an artiste manager, what is your management style? My management style is innovative and calculative, not doing away with flexibility, because managing artistes requires flexibility and precision in decision-making. My goal is to sell the brand to the outside world by grooming and developing my artistes so as to increase their market value, then stimulate potential aggregate demand in order to make business out of it. Reasons for show business despite the creativity and talent involved is exchange. I mean money. If there’s no exchange then it’s no business for Louiza Williams. Perhaps, one of the reasons I’m being called ‘LOUI MONEY’ by the people around me. (Laughs). How did the journey start? Well, the journey started for me first as a hobby. I never saw myself becoming a manager but I was acting in that capacity. I was around creatives and acting in the capacity of a manager unknowingly. I’m very passionate about talents and I barely take my eyes off when I eventually get in contact with any. I always try as much as I can to support in one way or the other just to see the talent grow. I mean I personally enjoy the growth process of talents, especially music artistes because of the challenges that come with grooming and developing an artiste from when he or she was relatively unknown until the talent attains a mega star stage. There’s this inner joy that comes with it, so people around me started calling me manager since when I was in the university (University of Calabar). I ran into ace comedian Klint Da Drunk, at an event in Uyo. He saw the skill, passion and drive in me. Then we exchanged contacts and he introduced me to his manager sometime in 2010, if I am not mistaken, where I headed a division of his management company, Spadez Management. I managed the likes of MC Galaxy, Shortcut and other talented folks under Klint Da Drunk’s management. I later moved on to manage Waconzy until 2014. A month after, I had decided to take a break from managing the Waconzy brand. Through referrals, I got to manage G-Worldwide Entertainment artistes Kizz Daniel and Sugarboy until date, before Kiss Daniel’s exit from the label. GWW remains my family and we now have a very talented singer, Ajura. He’s coming up really strong. Watch out for him in the year 2020. Managing artistes can be tasking. How do you create time for yourself? Yes, managing artistes can be very tasking and how I create time for myself is simply about time management which is very essential to me. So, I set my time table of task for each day and follow it strictly. That helps me in setting time for my personal affairs as well. When did you officially start with G-Worldwide? When I officially started working with G-Worldwide Entertainment was in the year 2014. Most managers usually are committed to a particular artiste. Why is your commitment to the record label? Most managers usually are committed to a particular artiste, but why I’m committed to the record label instead is because my major obligation as a manager is to attain organisational goals and not just artiste’s goals. You first introduced Kiss Daniel to me, what went wrong? Yes, I did introduce Kiss Daniel to you sometime in December 2014, and nothing went wrong. After then, we groomed, managed and promoted him to stardom and nothing went wrong…Hahhahah! Anyways, it is what it is and whatever you feel went wrong will be corrected in due time. Do you still communicate with Kiss Daniel despite being at odds with G-Worldwide? If we still communicate? Yes we do when necessary. What do you see as the problem with artistes and labels they start-off with? What I see as the problem with artistes and record labels they started -off with is not different from the fact that ‘human wants are insatiable.’ We are constantly wanting more, if not possibly all, except for self-control. But I will term it impatience and greed in most cases and nothing more. Is all your time dedicated only to the label? Any personal project? I wouldn’t say all my time is dedicated to the label only, because I make myself available only when it comes to the business of the label. And regarding any personal project, for sure, I do have some personal projects that will be unveiled in time. Source: https://thenationonlineng.net/artistes-problem-with-record-labels-is-greed/

I STILL REMEMBER THIS DAY LIKE IT WAS JUST YESTERDAY! I was called for in the Superintendent's office on our closing day and handed a letter to give my mum (whom was still mourning the loss of my dad) when I got home. Honestly, I knew it was 'badnews' but I didn't know it was going to be this bad . . . lol I can't remember who picked me from school that day (wasn't a family member though) because all the while, I was engrossed in thoughts of what might be the content of this brown envelope. I couldn't wait to tear it open when I got home, even before I could pull off my green & white daywear . . . . . . boy, was I devastated!!! That was my first experience with depression. I felt I had become a failure in life. I died on my inside! This was right after SS2 third term? Where would I start? WASSCE & NECO registration was just few months away. I almost slumped. I was the ONLY student who got expelled in my set. What a shame, boy!!!! I was hurt deep. I didn't think I was 'that bad' to be expelled. Till today, I just don't think I merited the expulsion . . . just saying though! I summoned courage and called my elder sister (who was just married) and explained the situation to her, knowing that she would always understand. Yes, She did! I called my brothers . . . surprisingly, they were all on my side. Then I finally told my mum . . . hmmmm! I LOVE THAT WOMAN! yeah! She stood by me hook, line and sinker! Long story short . . . It's exactly 7 years today! I just submitted my final year project 8 hours ago and signing out soon after 6 years within the four walls of a university! Now . . . that's not even the testimony! This is Two years ago, by the help of Jesus, I founded and registered a team (CHID-Team) and we've invaded 32 different secondary schools on about 45 different occasions (re-visitations/follow-up included) in 6 different cities in South Eastern Nigeria. We've reached out to about 7,000 teenagers with the goodnews of God's plans and purposes for their lives and led about 4,000 of them to Jesus and so many of their teachers too. This JESUS is GOOD! I'm a testimony! I can remember a school in Onitsha where I rounded up with my life story and the plenty youthful pitfalls contained in them and led them to Christ. The principal stood up and thanked me heartily and said to the students, with so much emotion in her heart, "CHIAZOKAM HAS MADE THESE MISTAKES, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO MAKE THEM". Tears welled up my eyes, I just couldn't contain them. At that moment, it dawned on me that indeed . . . THE PLACE OF YOUR GREATEST PAIN IS USUALLY THE PLACE OF YOUR GREATEST MINISTRY! The one expelled from school now helps others get expelled from the gates of hell and into God's plans for their lives! Failure is not the opposite of success, it is a part of it! Brother, can I prophesy to you? . . . MAY THE LORD TURN YOUR MISERY INTO A MINISTRY in Jesus Name! Do you remember the artiste, Otega whose freestyle video at the wobey tour by DJ enimoney went viral last month? He has just been blessed again by CDQ as he is one of the talented artiste that he'll feature on his track for free. The young talented rapper couldn't contain his joy as his chats with the CDQ gets emotional which he posted on whatsapp. One thing that amaze me is his chats with one of his former classmate who once shunned him but now calls him boss. It shows that there is no one who God cannot change his/her story. I do not encourage cheating but anywhere we find ourselves, let's be considerate too cos no one knows what tomorrow will offer.

7. He fell in love with a lady and couldn't stop thinking about her for so long. Sources reveal that it's likely a girl she met in the studio named 'Ella Silver'. 8. He sacrificed a lot for the hustle and at the blink of an eye, he already own instruments he named 'killertools'. 9. He was pictured with Seriki and Lil P after recording a track for them. If I'm told to name one of the most underrated music producers in Nigeria, I will place killertunes first. I'm not saying this because I'm one of his fan but of reality. Killertunes started his career at a very young age and he in collaboration with Stunna Beats were the pioneer of free beats in Nigeria, (others were otyno, josh beats, eminik etc) which prompted most music producers to emulate from it. Over the years, consistency has made him become one of the most sought after producers in Africa after making hits upon hits beats for top notch, up and hot coming musicians(Wizkid, Kiss Daniel, Phyno, Eazi, Skales, DJ Spinal, Major Later, DJ Cuppy just to mention a few). I decided to write about him and after days of "relentless digging", this is what @idyllblog found. I'll reveal to you his life journey from being an upcoming to a veteran in batches as I discover more and more. Just stay tuned.

I think it is high time we all began talking about Benue, Taraba and other states under siege by these rampaging killer herdsmen. The newspapers record deaths in numbers daily nowadays. Listen to newspaper reviews tomorrow. You can take it for granted that another attack would be reported. News of death from herdsmen is making daily headline. The situation is horrible. Sometimes I wonder if this carnage is actually happening in the same Nigeria you and I reside. Gory sight of butchered bodies everyday. Good God! Politics aside right now. Ethnicity aside right now. Let the humanity in all of us evoke empathy for the helpless people living in the villages where this mass murder are ongoing. Let us raise our voices in unanimous condemnation and appeal for help. Who are the people behind this systemic ethnic cleansing? Who are the people profiting from this bloodletting everywhere? Who? What do they want? Nigerians cry out! Social media influencers do something! Let's draw global attention to the crime against humanity going on in these states. Mark Zuckerberg please help us to create awareness on Facebook. President Muhammad Buhari, please do something urgently. People are dying! Declare a state of emergency now! cc : Ogbeni La

A writer, Don Al-Malik has this to say about the current instability in Nigeria : "Mind you, the security forces have also been massacred by Boko Haram and herdsmen. The first thing these herders do when they get to a town is to visit the police station to loot, kill and set ablaze. Of course, the police are overwhelmed by the outrageous number and bloodthirst. Totally out- gunned, too. Why won't they be? The last time the Police force conducted a recruitment exercise was when? And they are killed daily. Many also retire. Who replaces these? The latest report from the police places their number below 300,000. Imagine that in a nation of estimated 180 million. Meanwhile, the military had to recall soldiers from Mali to fight BH. There have been cases where soldiers run away from the frontline, some deliberately inflicting wounds on themselves to avoid combat. Though this is wrong, who can really blame them? Who enters a fight already handicapped? Where is the motivation? What are the benefits, hazard pay, rewards for these soldiers and their dependents? It was under the Babangida regime when the numerical strength of the military was drastically reduced. 'Who needs soldiers in time of peace?' was his statement. What about now? Still at peace? Why not even ask for help from countries like Sri Lanka who fought insurgency for years? The US military came and left in disgust because our military lacked professionalism, leaking vital details to the press. Imagine na. I know of DPO whose allocation for station maintenance in a quarter is 23K. Imagine. This country is going the way of the Aztecs. Do you really know and see what is going on in the Middle Belt? A friend here, Sewe Leah , shared a post she wrote three years ago, complaining about this same herdsmen killing TIVs and other tribes there. 3 YEARS AGO. And it is still ongoing. Benue used to be the food basket of this nation. A peaceful place. Now a theatre of genocide. And we are quiet. Sticking our heads into our asses. E no concern me, we say. Shey? No worry na. Soon". #BenueLivesMatter #fundourmilitary |
