University graduates are at an ideal time in their lives to start their own businesses. Their exposure to common societal problems predisposes them to develop innovative business ideas. A large portion of a country’s most prestigious private colleges and public universities do a pretty good job producing future founders. We have seen this happen from Harvard to Stanford producing founders like Bill Gates and Larry Page. In Nigeria, while it may not be considered a major factor, the university plays a role in the development of an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset. According to a report “West African Startup Decade Report” by TechPoint Africa, Nigerian universities produced the highest number of founders (43.6%) at the bachelor’s degree level, followed closely by the US (29.8%) of the founders, and England (12%). A closer look at the education of the startup founders in Nigeria revealed that Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Covenant University (CU), and the University of Lagos (Unilag) produced 12, 6, and 5 alumni respectively. President Muhammadu Buhari has flagged off the Kano-Maradi railway project. At the virtual event on Tuesday, Buhari said the rail project further strengthens his administration’s commitment to improving the transport sector and promoting economic activities. He said the rail line traverses the major commercial and administrative centre of Kano and passing through other economic hubs of the country including Kazaure, Daura, Katsina and up to the border town of Jibiya and the Niger Republic city of Maradi. “The cities of Jibiya and Maradi constitute a significant trading core between Nigeria and the Niger Republic – a tradition dating back many centuries,” he said. “This vital infrastructure line will establish an end-to-end logistic supply chain in railway transport services between northern and southern regions of the country, reaching Nigerian southern ports of Lagos and Warri. “The Kano–Maradi rail line has been identified as a viable line that will significantly enhance the movement of passengers and freight to the hinterland, especially raw materials from both agricultural and mineral resources for our industries. “The project, when completed, would serve the import and export of goods to the Niger Republic and other countries in the sub-region through Nigerian ports. The country would earn revenue through expansion of trade and commerce, while the people of Niger Republic will benefit from the ease of transportation logistics at an affordable cost in their import and export business. “The connection to the Niger Republic through rail will also foster Trans-Sahara trade and contribute to the expected gains in the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.” Speaking on other projects, Buhari said in the eastern corridor of the country, the Port Harcourt–Enugu–Makurdi–Maiduguri rail line with branches to Owerri, Imo state and Damaturu, Yobe state have been awarded for reconstruction to include a deep seaport in Bonny Island and a railway industrial park in Port Harcourt. He added that financial arrangements are being made with other partners on the West-East coastal rail line from Lagos to Calabar and linking Onitsha, Benin, Warri, Yenegao, Port Harcourt, Aba and Uyo. In September, the federal executive council approved $1.96 billion for the Kano-Maradi rail project. The 248km railway project will start from Kano, pass through Dambatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, Jibia and terminate in Maradi. The federal government had signed a memorandum of understanding with Mota-Engil Group, the railway project contractor. It said the Kano-Maradi railway project would be completed within 36 months. Speaking on a Channels TV programme on Sunday, Amaechi said the funds for the railway project will be sourced from Europe |

Ekiti would definitely be good for local tourism with their hilly terrain and picturesque look, even America has such town. No be everywhere and everything be skyline and skyscraper. They should be focusing on providing the basic amenities and improving the quality of welfare for their people. My two cents.. P.s: Flowers all over ekiti would def be good ![]() |

He's in hiding, I think. He won't be found easily especially if he is hidden by a politician. |
eagleu:Those in government are not dumb you know, Niger is a land-locked country, and Nigeria wants to encourage Niger to use our ports for both imports and exports to the tune of billions of dollars, keep in mind that Benin, Ghana are also jostling for Niger to use their seaports.. This is the diversification that we all wanted and will also increase our revenue. This plan has been hatched years ago and isn't new. Of course we also need to work on our internal infrastructure. |
Good.. Although it is quite disheartening that this infrastructures are just being put in place in the year 2020. With the oil boom and high prices and when the economy was 'supposedly' working, infrastructure were non-existent. You can only truly grow as far as the level of infrastructure in a country. |
SpecialAdviser:Lagos- ibadan rail started in 2017, rail tracks have been completed with only the train stations left to be completed by December.. Not holding briefs for this one though cos this is Nigeria. |

By Festus Ahon – Asaba Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Sunday urged Nigerians to support the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP back to power in 2023 to restore good governance, including infrastructural development in the country. Okowa who stated this at a thanksgiving service, said the PDP would do everything possible with the support of Nigerians to win the 2023 presidential election. He said the party was working very hard to win more states in the country as a precursor to getting back control of the presidency which it lost in 2015. The Governor said with the abysmal performance of the All Progressives Congress, APC led Federal Government, Nigerians were already convinced on the imperative of voting back PDP to power in 2023. While thanking leaders, youths and women for their support for the party since inception, Okowa said with such encouragement, PDP would take over the Federal Government in 2023. He said: “We have come here to give thanks to God because whatever we achieve in life is not the work of any man. Man can try but whatever we do is by the will of God that we triumph and it is only normal that we return all the glory to God. “We must learn to work with everybody in the state irrespective of their tribe because everyone matters in building a political party. Before the last general elections, we assured our members in the state that we will organise free, fair and credible primaries for all aspirants. “At the end of all the primaries, our party members realised that we meant business when we said we will organise credible primaries for aspirants because some aspirants close to me lost while some that are not close to me also won. “Once we are able to recognise that everybody matters in the party it becomes very easy to control the party”, soliciting support for the party to succeed and urged all political appointees to support their wards to hold meetings. Okowa who spoke further, told aspirants in the upcoming local government council elections in the state to exercise restraint in their consultations and campaigns, disclosing that the election would not hold in January 2021 as being speculated.

Lol... He is no longer the poster boy for the west. He must have struck a nerve of the global imperialist.. They do this in Africa a lot, ask Gaddafi and as usual AU is a toothless dog. My question is when will they do all this to China or Russia.. Leave Rwandans to themselves and let the people decide. |
