Ants might be tiny, but their way of life is full of big lessons for us. These hardworking insects have lived and thrived on Earth for millions of years because of their teamwork, organization, and determination By looking closely at how ants live, we can learn valuable skills to improve our own lives. In this blog post, we'll explore seven simple but powerful lessons from ant colonies that can inspire us every day. What is an Ant Colony Ants are social insects that live in groups called colonies, which can be small or large. A typical ant colony has a queen that lays eggs, many workers, and their young (eggs, larvae, and pupae). Workers are the most common ants in the nest. They build and take care of the nest, gather food, care for the young and the queen, and defend the colony. All workers are female, but they cannot lay eggs. Male and winged queen ants only stay in the nest for a short time. After they grow wings, they leave the nest to mate and start new colonies. Queens are similar to workers but have larger bodies. Some ant species don't have queens with wings. Instead, egg-laying is done by regular workers or ants that look halfway between a queen and a worker (called ergatoid queens). Male ants are usually smaller than workers, with small heads, short antennae, and tiny jaws. In some cases, male ants look more like wasps than ants. Roles in an Ant Colony Ant colonies function like well-organized communities where every member has a specific job. Each role is essential for the survival and success of the colony. Here are the key roles in an ant colony: The Queen The queen is the leader of the colony and the main egg-layer. Primary Role: Reproduction. She lays all the eggs that hatch into workers, soldiers, or future queens and males. Unique Features: The queen is larger than other ants and can live for several years. Some species may have more than one queen in a colony. Worker Ants Worker ants are the most numerous in the colony and are always female. They cannot reproduce but perform all the essential tasks to keep the colony running. Roles: Nest Maintenance: Building and repairing the nest. Foraging: Searching for and collecting food for the colony. Brood Care: Feeding and taking care of the eggs, larvae, and pupae. Defending the Nest: Protecting the colony from threats. Unique Feature: Workers are often divided into smaller groups with specialized duties based on size and age. 3. Soldier Ants In some species, larger worker ants act as soldiers to defend the colony. Primary Role: Protecting the nest from predators or rival ant colonies. Unique Feature: They have bigger heads and stronger jaws designed for fighting. Male Ants Males have a limited role in the colony and only appear during the mating season. Primary Role: Mating with the queen to ensure the next generation of ants. Unique Features: Males have wings and are smaller than queens but often look different from worker ants. Winged Queens and Males (Alates) These ants leave the colony during a specific season to start new colonies. Roles: Mating (for males). Establishing a new colony (for queens). Unique Feature: After mating, the males die, and the queens lose their wings to focus on starting a new nest. Brood (Eggs, Larvae, and Pupae) The brood consists of the young ants that will grow into workers, soldiers, or reproductive ants. Primary Role: Represent the future generation of the colony. Unique Features: They rely entirely on worker ants for food and care. An ant colony is a fascinating example of teamwork and organization. Each ant, from the queen to the workers and even the males, has a role that contributes to the colony's survival. By working together, ants show us how specialized roles can create a thriving community. 7 Life-Changing Lessons 1. Teamwork Makes Big Goals Possible Ants work together to get things done. Whether it's building a nest, finding food, or protecting their home, every ant plays its part. Even though they are small, they can achieve amazing things because they combine their efforts. What We Can Learn: Working as a team makes it easier to accomplish big tasks. Whether at work, school, or home, sharing responsibilities and trusting each other leads to success. 2. Everyone Has a Role In an ant colony, each ant has a specific job. Some gather food, others guard the nest, and the queen focuses on laying eggs. Each role is important for the survival of the colony. What We Can Learn: In life, knowing your role and doing it well helps the whole group succeed. Focus on your strengths and contribute to the bigger picture. 3. Keep Going, Even When Things are hard. Ants don't give up easily. If their path is blocked, they find another way. If their home is destroyed, they rebuild it. Their persistence helps them survive tough situations. What We Can Learn: Challenges are a part of life. Instead of giving up, stay determined and look for new solutions. With persistence, you can overcome any obstacle. 4. Communication is Key Ants communicate using chemical signals called pheromones. These signals help them share information about food, danger, or where to go. This clear communication keeps the colony organized. What We Can Learn: Good communication is important in all areas of life. Whether with friends, family, or coworkers, clear and honest communication helps everyone stay on the same page. 5. Prepare for the Future Ants are great planners. They gather food in the summer and store it for the winter when resources are scarce. Their careful preparation ensures their survival. What We Can Learn: Planning ahead makes life easier. Save money, prepare for challenges, and always think about what's next to stay ahead. 6. Small Actions Add Up An ant may be small, but when thousands of ants work together, they can do incredible things like building large nests or carrying heavy objects. What We Can Learn: Even small efforts can make a big difference over time. Focus on consistent, small steps toward your goals, and you'll see progress. 7. Focus on the Greater Good Ants put the needs of the colony above their individual desires. They work selflessly to ensure their community thrives. What We Can Learn: When we work for the good of our community or team, everyone benefits. Helping others can create a better environment for everyone. Ants show us that success comes from working together, staying determined, and being prepared. Whether in personal life, at work, or in your community, these lessons can help you become more productive, resilient, and connected with others. Conclusion Ant colonies are full of wisdom. From teamwork to planning ahead, these tiny creatures offer big lessons that can inspire us to live better. Next time you see an ant, take a moment to appreciate its hard work and determination. TikTok has become a massive platform for content creators to build large followings and generate impressive income. But did you know that you can make money on TikTok without ever showing your face? David, a side hustle expert and content creator known as @dave_preneur, shared his journey of making $7,000 in just 60 days through "Faceless TikTok." In this guide, we'll explore how he did it and how you, too, can start earning $3,500 or more per month on TikTok without revealing your identity. What is Faceless TikTok? Faceless TikTok is a content creation style where creators make videos without appearing on camera. Instead of showing their faces, they engage their audiences using creative methods like voiceovers, text overlays, external clips, or visual storytelling that doesn’t require revealing their identity. Despite staying anonymous, many Faceless TikTok creators still amass large followings, proving that personality-driven content isn’t the only way to succeed on the platform. David's Success Story: $7,000 in 60 Days David, who has built an impressive profile of over 500,000 followers in just 60 days, shared his tips on how he leveraged Faceless TikTok to make money. In a viral video (this time showing his face), David revealed that his secret to success was creating content that only took five to ten minutes per video to make. “The crazy thing about Faceless TikTok is that these videos only take about five to ten minutes to make,” David said. “The potential to earn is insane.” In just two months, David was able to walk away with $7,000 using the Faceless TikTok method. His experience shows how quick and scalable this content creation style can be. Top Faceless TikTok Content Ideas Conspiracy Theory Videos According to David, creating conspiracy theory videos is one of the best ways to make money on Faceless TikTok. These videos explore controversial topics and theories, engaging viewers who are fascinated by alternative perspectives. TikTok pays more if you target older demographics, and conspiracy theory videos tend to resonate well with this audience. “They want older people on this app. So, if you can target them, you’re gonna make a lot of money,” David explained. You can create these videos by using royalty-free images and videos, or simply adding text on a plain background while narrating over it. Quiz-Style Videos Another content idea David suggested is quiz-style videos. These videos are typically short, about one minute long, and drive a lot of engagement in the comments. People love answering questions and testing their knowledge, and these quizzes can be tailored to various topics like general knowledge, trivia, or niche-specific themes. AI-Generated Content David also mentioned using AI technology to generate images and videos for Faceless TikTok. While the AI niche is a bit saturated, it still holds potential if you can find unique angles or topics that haven't been heavily covered. This could involve creating content that showcases AI-generated art, storytelling, or video clips, all without needing to show your face. How to Create Faceless TikTok Videos Creating Faceless TikTok content is easy and doesn’t require fancy equipment or a lot of time. Here are some key steps to get started: Choose Your Niche: Focus on a content niche that resonates with your target audience. Whether it’s conspiracy theories, quizzes, or AI-generated art, make sure it’s something you enjoy and that has an existing audience on TikTok. Create Engaging Visuals: Use royalty-free stock images and videos, AI-generated visuals, or text-based content on a plain background. For video editing, apps like InShot or CapCut are great tools for adding animations, music, and transitions to keep viewers engaged. Add Voiceovers: Even without showing your face, you can still connect with your audience through voiceovers. Use your voice to narrate your videos, explain a concept, or guide viewers through your content. Leverage Text Overlays: Text overlays are a great way to highlight key points or instructions. These can be used effectively for quiz-style videos or to emphasize conspiracy theories and other intriguing topics. Post Consistently: David’s success with Faceless TikTok was driven by his consistency. Posting videos regularly helps boost your visibility and engagement. Aim for at least 1-2 videos per day. Why Faceless TikTok is Profitable Faceless TikTok has become a popular method for making money online because it’s fast, easy, and accessible to anyone. David’s experience proves that you don’t need expensive gear, a huge production team, or even a face on camera to build a following and monetize your content. With platforms like TikTok eager to attract older audiences and expand its user base, Faceless TikTok creators who can engage this demographic stand to earn significant income. Faceless TikTok is a powerful way to make money and grow an audience without the pressure of being on camera. David’s success in earning $7,000 in just 60 days proves that the potential to earn with this content style is huge. If you’re looking for a side hustle that’s creative, engaging, and has low barriers to entry, starting a Faceless TikTok profile could be your next big move. Starting a local business in Nigeria can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but it can also be overwhelming. Imagine turning your passion or skill into a successful business that not only provides for your family but also creates jobs for others in your community. Whether you’re thinking of opening a small retail shop, launching a food business, or offering professional services, you’re not alone in wondering how to make it work. Nigeria is a land of opportunities, with its large population and diverse economy, but it also comes with its challenges. The business landscape is competitive, and navigating the system can be tough if you don’t have the right information. Many aspiring entrepreneurs face the same concerns—how do I raise funds? How do I attract customers? How do I keep my business running profitably in this tough economy? What if I told you that with the right steps, careful planning, and a bit of persistence, you can successfully start and grow a local business in Nigeria? Picture yourself thriving in a business that not only survives but grows, offering you financial independence and stability. By understanding the market, making the right choices, and leveraging available resources, you can make your business a reality. In this article, I’ll guide you through the step-by-step process of starting and growing a local business in Nigeria. From coming up with a business idea to scaling your operations, we’ll cover everything you need to know to get started. Let’s dive in! 1. Identifying a Profitable Business Idea The first step to starting any successful business is to identify a profitable idea. It’s essential to choose something that aligns with your skills, interests, and the needs of your community. Here are a few ways to brainstorm ideas: Look for Gaps in the Market: What are people in your area struggling with? Are there services or products they need but can’t easily access? For instance, if you live in a neighborhood with many schools but no affordable stationery shops, you might consider starting one. Leverage Your Skills: If you have a skill—whether it's baking, fashion design, or carpentry—you can turn it into a business. People are always willing to pay for good craftsmanship or quality products. Study Trends: What’s currently in demand? For example, the rise of tech services, e-commerce, and digital marketing offers new business opportunities in Nigeria. Keep an eye on growing industries. 2. Conducting Market Research Before jumping into any business, it’s crucial to understand your market. This helps you know whether there’s enough demand for your product or service and who your target customers are. Who Are Your Customers? Think about the type of people who will need your product or service. Are they young people, parents, professionals, or students? Understanding your audience will help you tailor your offerings to meet their needs. Who Are Your Competitors? Look at other businesses offering similar products or services. What are they doing right, and where are they falling short? You can learn a lot from studying your competition. Pricing: Research how much customers are willing to pay. You want to set a price that covers your costs and gives you a profit, but it should also be competitive enough to attract customers. 3. Registering Your Business Once you’ve identified your business idea and conducted market research, the next step is formalizing your business by registering it. In Nigeria, you can register your business with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). This gives your business legal standing and helps build trust with customers. Choose a Name: Your business name should be unique, easy to remember, and reflect the nature of your business. Choose a Business Structure: Depending on your needs, you can register as a Sole Proprietor, Limited Liability Company, or Partnership. Obtain Necessary Licenses and Permits: Depending on your industry, you may need additional permits or licenses to operate legally. For instance, if you are in the food business, you may need a health and safety permit. 4. Securing Funding Starting a business often requires some form of capital. Here are some ways to raise funds for your local business in Nigeria: Personal Savings: The easiest way to fund your business is by using your savings. While this requires discipline, it’s the least risky option since you won’t owe anyone money. Family and Friends: Many small business owners turn to family and friends for financial support. If you take this route, ensure that everything is clearly documented to avoid future misunderstandings. Bank Loans or Microfinance Institutions: Banks in Nigeria offer small business loans, although the process can be strict. Alternatively, you can approach microfinance institutions that provide easier access to funds for small businesses. Grants and Government Programs: Look out for government programs, grants, and competitions that provide funding for small businesses. For example, the Youth Entrepreneurship Support Program (YES) and Tony Elumelu Foundation often offer financial support to Nigerian entrepreneurs. 5. Creating a Marketing Strategy Marketing is essential for growing your local business. You need to attract customers and keep them coming back. Word of Mouth: In a community setting, word of mouth is one of the most effective marketing tools. Provide excellent service, and your customers will spread the word. Social Media: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are powerful tools for reaching potential customers in Nigeria. Post regularly, engage with your audience, and run promotions to keep people interested. Flyers and Posters: Traditional methods like distributing flyers or placing posters in high-traffic areas can help increase your visibility, especially in local communities. Customer Loyalty Programs: Offering discounts or special promotions for repeat customers can help you retain clients and encourage them to refer others to your business. 6. Managing Your Business Effectively Running a business goes beyond setting it up. To grow your business, you need to manage it effectively. Keep Records: Track your income and expenses meticulously. This will help you see where your money is going and ensure that your business is profitable. Manage Cash Flow: Ensure you have enough money to cover daily operational costs. Poor cash flow management is one of the top reasons small businesses fail. Customer Feedback: Always listen to your customers. Their feedback is invaluable for improving your service and keeping them loyal. 7. Scaling Your Business Once your business is stable, you may want to expand. Here’s how to scale: Expand Your Product/Service Line: If your customers are satisfied with one product, consider offering complementary products or services. Hire More Staff: As demand increases, you may need to hire staff to help with operations. Make sure to hire people who are dedicated and share your vision. Open New Locations: If your business is thriving in one area, you can consider expanding to other locations. This can help you reach a broader audience. Conclusion Starting and growing a local business in Nigeria may seem challenging, but with careful planning and persistence, success is within reach. By identifying a profitable idea, conducting thorough research, securing funding, and implementing a solid marketing strategy, you can set your business on a path to success. Remember, entrepreneurship is a journey. Be patient, stay focused, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed. The rewards of running a successful local business can be life-changing, both for you and your community. SOURCE: https://ifutureconnect.com/how-to-start-and-grow-a-local-business-in-nigeria/

Imagine a young Nigerian student, bright and full of potential, struggling silently with anxiety, stress, or even depression. They wake up every morning feeling overwhelmed, not because they don't want to succeed, but because their mental health is suffering. Sadly, this is a reality for many students in Nigerian schools and universities today. Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it is often overlooked, especially in educational environments. In Nigeria, the pressure to perform academically is high, and students face unique challenges that can take a toll on their mental well-being. Unfortunately, mental health support in many schools is either inadequate or non-existent. If left unchecked, this neglect can have lasting consequences on students' academic performance, relationships, and overall quality of life. Imagine a world where students have access to mental health resources, counseling services, and a supportive environment that encourages emotional well-being. A world where Nigerian schools and universities prioritize the mental health of their students just as much as academic success. This is not just a dream; it is achievable, and it can begin with raising awareness and taking steps to address this critical issue. In this article, we will explore the importance of mental health in Nigerian schools and universities, the challenges students face, and why addressing mental health should be a top priority for educators, policymakers, and parents. Let's dive into how we can make this a reality. Why Mental Health Matters in Education Mental health plays a crucial role in the overall development of students. It affects their ability to learn, socialize, and handle life's pressures. Poor mental health can lead to anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and even suicide in extreme cases. In an academic setting, it impacts concentration, motivation, and the ability to retain information, leading to poor grades and school dropout rates. In Nigeria, mental health is often misunderstood, and the stigma attached to it prevents many from seeking help. In schools and universities, this stigma is even more profound. Students may feel embarrassed or ashamed to talk about their struggles, and this silence can have devastating consequences. The Current State of Mental Health in Nigerian Schools Many Nigerian schools and universities lack proper mental health services. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria has fewer than 150 practicing psychiatrists for a population of over 200 million people. This means that mental health services are limited and difficult to access, especially in educational institutions. Additionally, mental health education is rarely included in the curriculum. Without proper awareness, students may not recognize the signs of mental health issues, and teachers may not know how to provide adequate support. This lack of understanding perpetuates the cycle of neglect. The Impact of Mental Health on Academic Performance When students struggle with their mental health, it directly affects their academic performance. Stress, anxiety, and depression can make it difficult for students to concentrate, complete assignments, or even attend classes. This leads to lower grades, reduced motivation, and in some cases, dropping out of school altogether. Moreover, poor mental health can lead to behavioral issues, absenteeism, and conflicts with peers or teachers. A mentally healthy student is more likely to succeed academically, build strong relationships, and contribute positively to the school community. What Can Be Done? 1. Raising Awareness The first step in addressing mental health in Nigerian schools and universities is raising awareness. Schools should incorporate mental health education into their curriculum, ensuring that students understand the importance of mental well-being and how to recognize the signs of mental health issues. 2. Providing Counseling Services Every school and university should have access to trained mental health professionals. Counseling services should be made available to students, providing them with a safe space to talk about their struggles and seek help without fear of judgment. 3. Training for Teachers Teachers play a crucial role in the lives of students, and they should be trained to recognize the signs of mental health problems. Schools should provide training on how to offer basic emotional support and when to refer students to professionals for further help. 4. Creating a Supportive Environment Schools should foster an environment where students feel comfortable discussing mental health issues. Peer support groups, mental health clubs, and open discussions can help reduce the stigma and encourage students to seek help when they need it. 5. Involving Parents and the Community Parents should also be educated about the importance of mental health. Schools can organize workshops and seminars for parents to help them recognize the signs of mental health struggles and how to support their children. Mental health is a community issue, and everyone must be involved in promoting the well-being of students. The Role of the Government and Policymakers The Nigerian government and policymakers must also prioritize mental health in education. This can be done by allocating more resources to mental health services, creating policies that require schools to provide mental health education and counseling services, and ensuring that mental health professionals are accessible to all students. Conclusion Mental health is not a luxury; it is a necessity for students to thrive both academically and personally. Nigerian schools and universities must prioritize mental health by raising awareness, providing counseling services, and creating a supportive environment for students. It is time for educators, parents, and policymakers to take action and ensure that mental health is given the attention it deserves in our educational system. By addressing mental health, we can help students unlock their full potential, achieve academic success, and build a brighter future for Nigeria.

Are you feeling stuck or frustrated because you can't seem to shake certain habits that are holding you back? Do you spend too much time on social media, put off important tasks, or even struggle with negative self-talk? You're not alone. Many young people find themselves caught in these habits, which can affect everything from their academic performance to personal well-being. You may not realize it, but these habits can have a lasting impact on your future. Imagine how much more you could achieve if you could break free from procrastination, manage your screen time better, and replace self-doubt with self-confidence. The habits you build today shape your tomorrow, and recognizing which ones are holding you back is the first step to personal growth. Now, picture yourself waking up every day feeling motivated, confident, and ready to take control of your life. Your time is spent wisely, and you're achieving your goals instead of being sidetracked by distractions or bad habits. Overcoming these habits can lead to more success, better mental health, and a brighter future. Ready to start making positive changes? Let's dive into the top 5 bad habits that are common among youths and, more importantly, learn how you can overcome them to lead a more productive and fulfilling life. Procrastination Procrastination is one of the most widespread habits among young people. It starts with putting off tasks until the last minute, creating a cycle of stress and rushed work. You may convince yourself that you work best under pressure, but this habit only leads to anxiety and missed opportunities. Over time, procrastination can negatively impact your academic or career performance. How to Overcome It: Breaking the habit of procrastination starts with taking action. Here are some strategies: Break tasks into smaller parts: Instead of being overwhelmed by a big project, divide it into smaller, more manageable tasks. Set short, realistic deadlines: Tackle one small task at a time and set mini-deadlines for each one. Use the Pomodoro Technique: Work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Repeat this cycle until the task is complete. By managing your time better, you'll feel less pressure and more accomplished. Plus, your work will improve in both quality and timeliness. Excessive Social Media Use Social media is one of the most addictive habits for today's youth. While it's a great way to stay connected, too much time spent scrolling through Instagram or TikTok can lead to distractions, procrastination, and mental health challenges like anxiety and FOMO (fear of missing out). Excessive social media use can also negatively affect self-esteem, especially when comparing your life to others. How to Overcome It: Taking control of your social media habits is essential for improving productivity and well-being. Here's how to do it: Set daily time limits: Use tools like "Screen Time" on iPhone or "Digital Wellbeing" on Android to set a limit on social media apps. Schedule tech-free times: Dedicate specific hours of the day when you'll stay offline, like during meals, study time, or before bed. Replace social media with productive activities: Fill your time with activities that stimulate your mind, such as reading, exercising, or picking up a new hobby. By managing your social media use, you'll reclaim time for activities that truly matter. Poor Sleep Habits Staying up late watching videos, playing games, or scrolling on your phone can wreak havoc on your sleep cycle. Consistent poor sleep can lead to chronic fatigue, poor concentration, mood swings, and even long-term health issues like anxiety and weakened immunity. Sleep is critical for both physical and mental health, but many young people don't get enough of it. How to Overcome It: Healthy sleep habits start with a consistent routine. Here's how to fix your sleep schedule: Set a regular sleep time: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Create a calming bedtime routine: Wind down with activities like reading, meditation, or light stretching. Avoid screens before bed: The blue light from phones and laptops interferes with your body's ability to produce melatonin, a hormone that helps you sleep. Prioritizing sleep will drastically improve your focus, mood, and overall well-being. Unhealthy Eating Habits Many young people fall into the trap of eating junk food, fast food, and sugary snacks. These unhealthy choices can lead to low energy, weight gain, and long-term health issues like diabetes or heart disease. Additionally, poor eating habits often come with a lack of essential nutrients, which can affect both your physical and mental health. How to Overcome It: Here are simple ways to improve your diet and build healthy eating habits: Plan your meals: Prepare nutritious meals in advance to avoid unhealthy takeout or fast food. Eat balanced meals: Incorporate more whole foods, like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Replace sugary drinks with water: Sugary sodas and energy drinks can be replaced with water or herbal teas to cut down on empty calories. By adopting healthier eating habits, you'll feel more energized and ready to tackle your daily activities. Negative Self-Talk Negative self-talk can quietly become one of the most damaging habits. Youths often struggle with thoughts like "I'm not good enough," "I'll never succeed," or "I always fail." These negative beliefs can erode self-esteem and confidence, making it harder to take risks or pursue opportunities. How to Overcome It: To break free from negative self-talk, start by recognizing it. Here's what you can do: Challenge your negative thoughts: Whenever a negative thought pops up, ask yourself if it's really true. Often, it's just a distorted perception. Replace negativity with affirmations: Positive affirmations like "I'm doing my best" or "I'm capable of learning and growing" can shift your mindset. Surround yourself with positive influences: Spend time with people who support and uplift you, and limit interactions with those who bring you down. By developing a positive inner voice, you'll build resilience and self-confidence. Conclusion Bad habits can seem hard to break, but they don't have to control your future. By recognizing and addressing these five common bad habits: procrastination, excessive social media use, poor sleep, unhealthy eating, and negative self-talk, you can start building a healthier, more productive life today. Remember, the journey to self-improvement is a gradual process, but with dedication and persistence, you can overcome these habits and unlock your full potential. This guide will provide you with practical advice and insights drawn from various studies and expert recommendations, ensuring that you are prepared to tackle the application process with confidence. What is a Scholarship? Scholarships are financial aid awards designed to assist students in covering the costs of an undergraduate or graduate degree. They can sometimes come as a one-time payment, while others are renewable and provide funding each semester or academic year. Unlike student loans, scholarships do not need to be repaid. Therefore, if you receive a scholarship, you do not have to pay it back. The awarded money might be given directly to the student in the form of a check. Alternatively, it may be sent to the student's school, in which case the funds would be applied to tuition, fees, room, and board. Any excess funds from scholarships and other financial aid that surpass the direct college costs are typically refunded to the student. Difference Between Scholarship, Grant and Loan A grant is a form of financial aid based on the student's financial need and does not need to be repaid. A scholarship, on the other hand, is an award given for achievements, often based on academic performance, abilities, skills, test scores, or class rank. Loans are funds that students and/or parents borrow, which typically need to be repaid with interest over a specified period. In this inspiring interview, we have the pleasure of speaking with Chukwujekwu Joseph Ezema, fondly known as Jeks. Hailing from Enugu State, Nigeria, Jeks has a remarkable academic journey that showcases his determination and resilience. Graduating with a B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria, he later moved to the UK with his family in 2022 to pursue a master’s in data science at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, where he graduated with distinction. Join us as Jeks shares his motivations for studying abroad, the challenges he faced, and the strategies he employed to excel in his studies and adapt to a new cultural and academic environment. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your academic journey? My name is Chukwujekwu Joseph Ezema, also called Jeks. I am from Enugu State, Nigeria. I was also born and raised in Enugu Metropolis. I am an ex-seminarian from the prestigious Sacred Heart Seminary in Nsude, Enugu. I graduated at the top of my class in 2015 with a B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry from Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria. In January 2022, I moved to the UK with my family, precisely for my master’s in data science, where I have now graduated with distinction from Teesside University, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom. What motivated you to pursue your studies overseas? Frankly, I wanted to change my situation in Nigeria. This is not to say my situation was critically bad; I just wanted more for myself and my family. But career-wise, I found a new interest in data. This came during the COVID-19 year; we all saw that global turnaround in terms of how we work and the imminent need for data professionals, as it recorded one of the most sought-after roles in the world as of then. I have always considered myself to be very analytical and good with STEM courses, hence my motivation to extend what I started as self-development to master’s level in an environment like the UK with multiple state-of-theart technologies, an uninterrupted education system, and practical exposure. How did you choose the country and institution for your studies? I did my research, of course. Studying in the UK is without complications. There’s no ambiguity in the process; everything is point-based. All that’s needed is to meet those criteria — the academic and financial requirements of the chosen course, English proficiency, minimum financial conditions, etc. and you are in. In addition, I was enticed by the idea of a 2-year post-study work visa after graduation, especially for someone like me who wanted to not just study but also experience the corporate world overseas. But most importantly, because as a student, you’re allowed to come with your family. Nothing was greater than that in helping me choose a country! In the 2021–2022 academic session, Teesside University was in the top 3 cheapest and best — if not the top school in the UK by all margins — for tuition (£7.5k per annum), cost of living (way cheaper compared to schools in London and surroundings), and the highest number of installment payment plans (which were 7 at the time). Upon that, as an African International Student, you get an automatic £2k discount (which they call an African Development Scholarship) if you meet your conditions as stated in your admission offer letter. Again, the most important part is that I think they were the few schools that offer core M.Sc. data science — not just applied or foundational, which was what I wanted. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the application process, and how did you overcome them? Teesside University is one of the universities in the UK where you must prove your financial state, fondly called POF (Proof of Fund), first with the university before they give you CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). This process differs from that of UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration). Basically, you must prove your financial stability using your own bank statement to the school; unless you are directly sponsored by your direct parents, then they can bring theirs with other sponsorship documents that are applicable to your situation, wait for CAS, get your CAS, and then you do another with UKVI before the visa is granted. Also bear in mind that the school always verifies with the designated bank in Nigeria before issuing you anything. They just like to do their due diligence at the highest level. Originally, I was supposed to join the September 2021 set but got deferred to January 2022 as a second chance when I couldn’t meet up with the minimum financial state as required. And this was because there was a miscommunication of the official exchange rate that is used to check. I felt particularly down and demoralised because it was looking as if things weren’t just falling in pleasant lines, but most especially because I had paid my initial deposit since April of 2021 and almost resigned from work at the time, only for me to be deferred with a strong warning. Anyway, that error was easily sorted out for the following January batch in 2022 by using the official exchange rate, which is usually on the school website, I think. How did you prepare yourself academically and personally before moving abroad? M.Sc. Data Science was my sole choice. I wasn’t enticed by any immigration agent to do it just to leave the country. I wanted it personally. I was enthusiastic about getting in. In fact, I enrolled in some of the edtech institutions that train people transitioning into tech when I was deferred just to start getting acclimatised with analytical tools like Power BI, SQL, and Tableau on a basic level at least. I had gotten all my course modules from the school website and was building knowledge about them as best I could. Prior to all these, I had done a few foundational Python and data courses on Coursera, DataCamp, LinkedIn Learning, and Shaw Academy (the first place I started my digital learning in 2020). I can comfortably say I came prepared a bit. Continue reading: https://ifutureconnect.com/an-inspiring-interview-with-jeks-on-achieving-academic-excellence-abroad/

In this insightful and beautiful story, Yollanda Chepkoech shares her journey from completing her MSc at the University of Glasgow, funded by the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, to overcoming the difficulties of going back to Kenya. Her story highlights the realities of job hunting, the importance of personal connections, and the determination needed to adapt to life after studying abroad. Originally posted by The Management Diary on LinkedIn, Yollanda's experiences offer valuable lessons for prospective scholars and recent graduates alike. Last year at a time like this, I was at the University of Glasgow in the UK pursuing my MSc funded by Commonwealth Shared Scholarships. It was clear that I would be travelling back to my country immediately after studies. My graduation was in December 2023! I was elated to have completed my studies, but I also worried and felt lost. At some point, I wanted to pursue a PhD immediately after my master's. I even applied for one within that period, but I got a rejection. A part of me really needed a break after the intense one-year experience, so I came to terms with the decision and travelled back to Kenya. Upon returning, I needed to find a job as soon as possible and made several applications but nothing came through. The job market was harder than I anticipated. We all know how finding a job in Kenya can sometimes feel like another unpaid full-time job. It took me 3 months to secure an internship with a research institution which has been an exciting and insightful experience so far. While I may not be where I wish to be professionally, moving back home is the best decision I made. Being abroad for a year showed me how valuable being close to people you love can be, family and friends. I am beginning to appreciate this connection even more every single day! Apart from dealing with personal battles, settling again came with its own challenges. Questions kept popping up whenever I showed up somewhere. For instance, "why did you come back?" "When are you going back?" I still get some of these questions to this day. At first, answering such questions bothered me, but with each passing day, I made peace with myself. Dear prospective scholars winning a scholarship doesn't happen in a single day; it requires commitment, perseverance, and resilience. But also prepare for life after completion of your studies abroad. Adjusting can be challenging and stressful but this should not deter you from seizing an opportunity to study abroad. In a social media post on Sunday afternoon, President Biden announced his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race. This move comes in response to mounting pressure from Democrats who urged him to step aside following a debate performance that stunned the political world. Remember in previous weeks, Biden had insisted he would continue his campaign despite concerns about his age and mental acuity. However, primary ballots have already been cast across the nation, and the Democratic National Convention is just around the corner. Biden's withdrawal came after weeks of pressure from party insiders, sparked by a disastrous June 27 debate performance against GOP candidate former President Donald Trump. This move adds further chaos to an already unusual presidential race, and it was not immediately clear on Sunday how Democrats would choose a replacement for Biden in November's election, though Vice President Harris would likely have a strong claim to lead the ticket. Since President Biden withdrew before the formal nomination, which was set to occur during a virtual roll call in early August ahead of the Democratic National Convention, the roughly 3,900 pledged delegates will now convene at the convention to cast their ballots for a new nominee. Biden has officially endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, as the Democratic Party's nominee, announcing that he will not seek reelection. In his statement on X "My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats - it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this." In a written statement, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison stated that the party will follow "established rules and procedures" in selecting a new nominee. "The work that we must do now, while unprecedented, is clear," Harrison wrote. "In the coming days, the Party will undertake a transparent and orderly process to move forward as a united Democratic Party with a candidate who can defeat Donald Trump in November. This process will be governed by established rules and procedures of the Party. Our delegates are prepared to take seriously their responsibility in swiftly delivering a candidate to the American people." Harris is the immediate favorite to secure the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August. As the only candidate who can directly access the Biden campaign's funds under federal campaign finance rules, she holds a significant advantage. However, her path to the nomination is not guaranteed to be smooth. The vice president Harris has made it official. She says she's honored by Biden's endorsement and vows, "I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and unite our nation to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda." Harris has several clear advantages: She was part of the winning 2020 ticket and garnered millions of votes in this year's primaries. She has been actively campaigning in swing states, leading the campaign's efforts on abortion access, and is the only candidate who can directly access the Biden-Harris campaign's substantial war chest under federal finance rules. Several lawmakers have publicly expressed their support for Harris as the nominee if Biden stepped aside. Skipping over the first woman and first woman of color elected vice president in favor of another candidate could result in significant political backlash. It remains unclear if anyone will challenge Harris for the nomination or if Democrats will advocate for an open convention or a rapid primary where candidates can present their case to the public before the Democratic National Convention begins on August 19 in Chicago. Harris is not without her flaws. Her 2020 presidential campaign, despite significant initial hype, failed due to internal issues and an inability to craft a winning message, leading her to drop out before the Iowa caucuses. Republicans have already hinted at their strategy against Harris, dubbing her the "border czar" due to her work on addressing migration from Central America and tying her to issues like inflation that have plagued the Biden administration. Polling on whether Harris would fare better than Biden in a head-to-head match-up against Trump has yielded mixed results. An NBC News survey published Sunday found Trump leading Biden by 2 percentage points, 45 to 43 percent, and Harris by 2 points, 47 to 45 percent. A New York Times/Siena College poll indicated Harris performing slightly better than Biden in key states like Pennsylvania and Virginia, which are crucial for Democrats. As of Sunday, it remains uncertain whether other candidates will challenge Harris or how the party might need to adjust its rules to facilitate her nomination on the convention floor. For more details on the delegation selection process, please visit the Democratic Party's website. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19–22 in Chicago, Illinois. "This summer, Democrats will come together to build on our progress, lay out what's at stake in this election, and unite around our shared values of democracy and freedom to create a future for all Americans," reads a message posted on the DNC's website. The world is full of limits, but the mind is unlimited. By turning inward to access the supernatural realm, we can navigate through our limitations and achieve unlimited results. Thinking inside helps you to maximize your limited resources to get your desired result. Seek help from within, all that we need for life and godliness is given to us already. As Jesus once said, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.” Such is the power that lies dormant within us; by looking inward and comprehending this authority, we may speak forth words of command. What abilities do you possess? When confronted with obstacles or barriers, don’t bemoan your fate — instead ask yourself what comes next: what actions should I take now that this has happened? Who else might be able to assist me in reaching my goal? How can I best utilize my current assets towards success? Start from what you have and gradually climb up to the ladder to bring your vision to fruition. What is possible despite this limitation and what does this limitation make possible once I break it down. Find out the intricacies of that limitation and the possibilities it presents, then prepare to work the miles to cross it. Most often than none people have limited mindset than they have limited resources. The power to tap into the resources that enables us to achieve our goal is our mindset. Resources are boundless waiting to be grabbed but only if you can see them with your mind. We have people all around us who are resources, but because we do not have a good relationship with people around us, we tend to miss them. Don’t miss out on valuable opportunities presented by resourceful individuals simply because you didn’t bother getting acquainted first! We must also be mindful of the language we use when faced with limitations. Negative self-talk can limit our potential and hinder our ability to find solutions. Instead of saying “I can’t do this because…”, we should re-frame our thinking and ask ourselves “How can I overcome this challenge?”. This shift in mindset allows us to focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on the problem. Furthermore, it is important to surround ourselves with positive and supportive people who can help us navigate through our limitations. Building strong relationships with others not only provides us with valuable resources but also helps us maintain a positive mindset. Ultimately, the key to unlocking unlimited results lies within ourselves. By tapping into our inner power and resources, reframing our thinking, and building strong relationships, we can overcome any limitation that comes our way and achieve greatness beyond measure. The recent cholera outbreak in Nigeria emphasizes how important it is to educate children about cholera as well as proper hygiene. Cholera, caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacterium, can lead to severe dehydration and death if untreated. Effective hygiene practices are essential for preventing the spread of this waterborne disease. Being economical doesn't translate to being a miser; rather, it means managing your money wisely. Develop the skill of finding value in every dollar spent. Managing a business is comparable to managing a lifestyle. This guide provides practical tips for parents and educators on teaching children about cholera and essential hygiene practices to keep them safe during this health crisis. Understanding Cholera: A Child-Friendly Explanation Explaining cholera to children requires simplicity and clarity. Here's how to break it down: What is Cholera? Simple Definition: Cholera is a sickness that happens when someone drinks water or eats food with germs that can make them very sick. Key Points: Cause: Tiny germs (bacteria) in dirty water or food. Symptoms: Tummy pain, lots of watery poop (diarrhea), and feeling very thirsty (dehydration). Why is Cholera Dangerous? Simple Definition: Cholera can make you very sick quickly, but you can stay safe by drinking clean water and washing your hands. Key Points: Quick Illness: Cholera can make you sick very fast, so we need to act quickly. Dehydration: It makes you lose a lot of water from your body, which can be dangerous. Teaching Hygiene Practices: Fun and Effective Methods Instilling good hygiene habits in children can be both educational and enjoyable. Here's how: Handwashing: The Basics Why It's Important: Washing hands removes germs that can make us sick. Fun Methods: Songs and Rhymes: Create a catchy song about handwashing. For example, sing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" while washing hands. Glitter Germs: Use glitter as pretend germs. Have kids try to wash off the "germs" to understand the importance of scrubbing. Steps to Teach: Wet Hands: Use clean water to wet hands. Apply Soap: Use enough soap to cover all hand surfaces. Scrub: Rub hands together for at least 20 seconds. Don't forget between fingers and under nails. Rinse: Rinse off all the soap with clean water. Dry: Use a clean towel or air dry hands. Safe Drinking Water Why It's Important: Clean water helps prevent getting sick from germs. Fun Methods: Water Detective: Play a game where children become "water detectives" to find and use only clean water. Coloring Sheets: Provide coloring sheets that show the journey of water from dirty to clean. Steps to Teach: Use Clean Sources: Drink water from safe sources like boiled or filtered water. Store Properly: Keep drinking water in clean, covered containers. Avoid Unclean Water: Don't drink water from streams, ponds, or other untreated sources. Food Safety Why It's Important: Eating clean food prevents the ingestion of germs. Fun Methods: Healthy Food Hunt: Have a scavenger hunt for "clean" (safe) foods and discuss why they are good choices. Cooking Together: Involve kids in safe food preparation, teaching them to wash hands and food properly. Steps to Teach: Wash Hands Before Eating: Always clean hands before handling food. Wash Fruits and vegetables. Clean them thoroughly before eating or cooking. Cook Properly: Ensure food is cooked well to kill any germs. Proper Toilet Use Why It's Important: Using the toilet properly and washing hands afterward prevents the spread of germs. Fun Methods: Toilet Training Charts: Use charts with stickers to track proper toilet use and handwashing. Role Play: Act out the steps of using the toilet and washing hands with toys or dolls. Steps to Teach: Use Toilets: Always use a toilet or latrine. Wipe and Flush: Wipe properly and flush waste away. Wash Hands: Wash hands with soap after using the toilet. Making Hygiene Education Engaging Use Visual Aids Posters and Charts: Place colorful posters about handwashing and hygiene around the house or classroom. Books and Videos: Use child-friendly books and videos to explain cholera and hygiene. Storytelling Create Stories: Develop stories with characters who practice good hygiene and stay healthy, while those who don't get sick. Interactive Reading: Read stories together and ask questions about what the characters should do next. Games and Activities Hygiene Relay: Organize a relay race where children demonstrate hygiene practices like washing hands or storing water safely. Hygiene Bingo: Create a bingo game with hygiene tasks (e.g., wash hands, drink clean water) and reward completed rows. Involve Kids in Real-Life Scenarios Water Purification: Let children help with boiling water or using water filters at home. Hygiene Patrol: Assign children the role of "hygiene patrol" to remind family members to wash hands and drink clean water. Reinforcing Good Hygiene Habits Regular Reminders Daily Routine: Incorporate handwashing and hygiene checks into the daily routine. Praise and Rewards: Praise children for practicing good hygiene and offer small rewards to reinforce these habits. Lead by Example Model Behavior: Show children how you practice good hygiene and explain why it's important. Family Involvement: Encourage the whole family to participate in maintaining hygiene standards. Conclusion Educating children about cholera and proper hygiene practices is essential, especially amid Nigeria's recent outbreak. By using engaging methods such as games, songs, and real-life activities, parents and educators can effectively teach children how to stay safe. Remember, consistent practice and positive reinforcement will help instill these crucial habits, empowering children to protect themselves and others from cholera. The proverb “Prevention is better than cure” is applicable to money management as well as many other areas of life. We wouldn’t ever need to make significant lifestyle changes in order to save money if we chose to live a determined, sustainable lifestyle that prioritizes necessities before wants. Build a lifestyle that works for you, not for the attention of others. Saving money is not a prerequisite for changing one’s lifestyle on the positive side, but it is associated with a lifestyle shift on the negative side. A debt-fueled lifestyle is always one step away from bankruptcy. In accordance with Thomas Jefferson’s advice to “never spend money before you have it,” I would add, “Once you have it, make the most of it.” Being economical doesn’t translate to being a miser; rather, it means managing your money wisely.
