Culture / FACT CHECK: Is Lion The King Of The Jungle? by ify01: 12:46pm On Dec 08, 2021

The Lion being the king of the Jungle is a western misconception.

According to African tradition and folklore, the lion isn't and has never been the king of the Jungle... The King of the Jungle is the Leopard! The lion doesn't even live in the jungle or rainforests. The lion lives in Savannah. Our traditional costumes like the ones in the second picture is that of a leopard.

The Isi agu attire of the Igbos is the leopard. For the Igbos, Odum is Lion while Agu is the Leopard. Agu holds a far more spiritual significance than Odum. Powerful men are usually referred to as Agu (Leopard), not Odum. For the Yorubas, Amotekun is the leopard, Kiniun is lion. Amotekun holds a far more spiritual significance in Yoruba Cosmology than Kiniun. For the Zulus, Ingwe is the leopard. Lion is ingonyama. Ingwe (The leopard) has more spiritual significance for the Zulus than the lion. Across Africa, the belief is the same! How can an animal that doesn't even live in the Jungle be the King of the Jungle?

Just another example of how western misconceptions and false narratives are portrayed as the truth.

Religion / Special Remark By Pastor W F Kumuyi At The Launch Of The Book: Kumuyi, The Defe by ify01: 2:26pm On Sep 18, 2021
SPECIAL REMARK BY, PASTOR W F KUMUYI AT THE LAUNCH OF THE BOOK: KUMUYI, THE DEFENDER OF THE FAITH (17/09/2021)

Praise the Lord!

Thank you very much the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, our own Governor in Lagos State, His Excellency, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governors and their representatives, eminent people who are here, the ministers of the gospel, I appreciate our coming together, and the Lord bless you all in this occasion in Jesus' name.

We are here today because we are presenting the Book, KUMUYI, THE DEFENDER OF THE FAITH to the public, the nation and the world.

As you have heard, I didn't know about the writing and publication of the book originally, but the authors and contributors approached and told me that this was being done, and I sat back and thought about it and said it's alright, we can go ahead.

Actually, I never knew that the words The Defender of the Faith were part of my name and calling. We were in Singapore for a conference with attendees from different parts of the world, and my humble self was required to give series of messages.

After I finished the series, one of the ministers came and asked me if I knew the meaning of my name, William. I responded that I never thought about it.

Actually, when I was a young Anglican and I was to be christened, my father asked me what christian name I would love to bear. I said I would love to bear the name Johnson. There was a Johnson in our community who was very vocal, fervent, bold and courageous and I have learnt to appreciate him.

It was agreed that I would be Johnson. And then we got to the church and the ceremony was being preformed and the minister said "he shall be called William". I wondered why I had to bear that name.

It wasn't many years later after I got converted in 1964 and I became a Preacher, traveling Teacher and Evangelist that we got to this meeting in Singapore that this minister who had studied the meanings of names and for one reason or the other had checked the root and etymology of my name.

He told me, your name means THE DEFENDER OF THE FAITH and that what I've done there in Singapore was prophetic and he prayed along with me. Since that time I've been more conscious of the fact that God called me.

I said "called me" because I had the knowledge and understanding of who God is from 1952, I was born in 1941. At age 11, I asked God for a solution, and told Him if it is going to be this way, let this happen, and if it is going to be that way, let that happen. What I told the Lord happened, and since then in 1952, I've been very conscious of God with me and leading me.

Then in 1964, I heard the gospel in a very simple way that God loves humanity, and everyone regardless of their status, background and religion because the scripture says, For God loves the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Before that time, all I was doing was trying to live a good and righteous life, an upright life above board and reproach, but it dawned on me that day that I could not save myself, I could not pull up myself by the bootstraps.

So on that day, the 5th of April, I said Lord, You have sent our Lord Jesus Christ not only to save humanity but to save me. So I gave my life over to the Lord Jesus. I had a real transformation and it was clear to everyone who knew me in my alma mater, Mayflower School under Tai Solarin at that time, that a change really came, and the school knew about it.

Eventually, I moved forward, reading books and someone, Reverend Mellor of Methodist Church handed over to me the writings of John Wesley and I began to read and read, and I consecrated myself because I saw how John Wesley went all over England and Europe, defending the faith, even though I didn't know the meaning of my name William then.

I told God, if you could use a man this way at that time, then You can use me. I came across just one sentence that turned everything around.

John Wesley said:
"Give me an 100 men that fear nothing but sin and love none but God, and we will turn the world upside down".

I thought about that. Could you be like John Wesley? After that I came across Charles G. Finney's books, and I was asked if I could be like him? I answered the call because I knew that it was not of them, but of God.

I said Lord, to face and address the challenge John Wesley mentioned, give me an 100 men that love none but God and fear nothing but sin and we will turn the world upside down.

So, I took up the challenge and we started the ministry in 1973 August 3rd, we were 15 people. From there we moved on to what we have now.

As I began to see that we can be transformed and be what God wants us to be, He gave us the Lord Jesus, not only to be Saviour but as a pattern and example for us to follow, I used to say I want to be like John Wesley, but later, I wanted to be like Jesus who is Master, Saviour, Preacher, Teacher, Evangelist, and everything.

By the grace of God, I moved from being a teacher to an evangelist, to being a pastor and a little bit of the life of an apostle and miracles began to take place: eyes being opened and the lame rising up and walking. And on a few occasions we saw the dead being brought back to life.

And now with the media that came in, we found that Jesus Christ said anyone who believes in Him will do the works He did, and greater works than that because He goes to the Father.

A centurion came to Jesus to ask for healing for his servant who was sick of the palsy, and he told Jesus not to come to his house but to speak the word only and his servant would be healed. Ministers who are here know that healing can come through various ways: by laying on of hands, by anointing with oil, by two of us agreeing together and the Lord will grant whatever we ask.

There is also the ministry of "speaking the word only" and my servant shall be healed. This aspect has the Lord now capitalized on in my ministry. Now we are having what we call the Global Crusade through which we connect to people from all over the world and cancer and other diseases have been healed, just by praying from here in Nigeria.

We also saw the case of an entire family that was infected with covid 19 pandemic and by praying for them online and the following day, they went for tests and were totally cured.

We've seen HIV Aids, cancer, and lots of sicknesses healed, yet, my prayer this morning is that I want to be like Jesus, and I want to throw it to you today, because God is no Respecter of persons. John Wesley said, Give me an 100 men who fear nothing but sin and love none but God and we can turn the world upside down.

Here we are, we are more than one hundred, if you can make up your minds on getting back home because you may not be able to do it fully here, you will tell the Lord, I want to be with all my heart and soul like Jesus, and the Lord will make it to happen.

I have had experiences in teaching in the secular world complex Mathematics variables, there are many of my students who have gone beyond me. Sometimes I meet past students who are now Professors, Engineers, Doctors who know what I don't know.

I want to do this in Christianity to raise people who will go beyond me. We can even start here, that you can say, Lord, whatever you have done by, through and with this man, do it through me.

A man or a woman, surrendering yourself to the Lord Jesus Christ, saying, Lord, here am I, I am available. I love none but You, and hate nothing but sin, use me the way You want and the Lord will do it.

Then we can go beyond John Wesley and say, Give me a thousand people, a million people that love God with all their hearts and souls and we can turn the world upside down. We can do it!

We will start from our city, our nation, our continent Africa and who knows, we can change the world by His grace, love, in His mercy, with our commitment and consecration and surrendering everything we have to Him, we can change the world.

Someone was interviewing me three weeks ago from London because he wanted to take part in our crusade. He said, "You are now 80, what do you still have that you have not done?"

I told him 80 is just a number. Tossing that aside, you are as young as your dedication, vision and love for God. If you can dedicate your life to God and say you want to make impact and touch lives before you leave the world stage, the Lord will answer your prayers.

Moses started at 80 and i'm just starting at 80 and who knows how far we can still go? You and I teaming together, knowing fully well that the world needs us, our people and this generation needs us, we can.

Don't just read this book KUMUYI just to appreciate, read to embrace, as we have said, God is no Respecter of persons, if you can say it, God who did this through this man can do more through you.

May the Lord confirm this in our lives in Jesus name. Amen.

Thank you and God bless you.

My Comment:
Seest thou a man diligent in his business (ministry)? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men (Proverbs 22:29)

To me, this is the conclusion of all that happened at the Book Launch.

May God continue to lift His servant as he also continues to serve and lift His name up on the global stage. Amen and Amen!

Praise, the group you follow determines a lot about you. they would either make or mar you.

Do you need friends? Then choose wisely. Or you would be ruined foolishly.

Beware. Praise, beware, for this group with which you walk are leading you than the drain path.  You may not know this, but the friends you keep, and the friends you let keep you, determines how far you fall, how painful the fall is

and how well you may get up afterh  the fall.

True, I might have no idea about your background – about your life before now, but. . .Praise. . .have you been drugged before? Have your drinks ever been laced? Why walk down this path of ruin? Why sign a death warrant for yourself? Beware Praise, beware. Why try to fit in, when you know you don’t belong there? Why allow these friends you choose. . .oh! look. Look praise. Don’t you see the ditch before you?

Why ruin your life when you can build it?

So you need friends? Take a look. Yes, look around you. What do you see?

People, I guess.

A mixture of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Within these ones lies the friends you chose, and the friends you should have chosen. Listen  Praise, the true worth of friendship is not inherent in it’s quantity, but in it’s quality -  as regards what positive value that friend is adding to your life.

Praise. These friends you have chosen, what value have they added to your life? Do your values feel threatened when you’re with your friends?

Beware Praise, beware for the devil craves after your innocence. Why sacrifice it to him on the altar of your friends blind reasoning? Think, Praise, Think. For thinking is humanity most unused gift. Will the friends you now keep lead you across the path to the life you want to live?

Will the day not come when you’ll  look back to this day, and wish you had chosen your friends wisely? And wish that you had listen to these words? Will the day not come, when you’ll curse the friends you kept? Curse the day you gained admission? Curse the day you met those friends?
Look, Praise listen, for you are trudging on a mine filled path.

Beware Praise, Beware for it’s a minefield on which you walk.

Among these people which you saw, are the friends, the companions, the compatriots you should have chosen. Look at them calling at to you. Still unable to see them? Just wait.  Stand by. Keep yourself. And they will come for you. They will find you. Likes attracts likes.

But first, cut off these ones. These friends, for they will ruin you. They would be used against you. This Praise, is not a threat. It’s an assurance. An assurance of a certainty. You don’t really have to believe that the sky is blue.

Three things determines a lot about your life:

You.

The friends you keep.

The friends that keep you.

The last two must all tick green with your personality. If your personality is green, and any of them is red, your personality. Your future. Your goals. And your dreams becomes red. Who are your friends, Praise? Who are they? Show them to me.

Do you think you’ll soar high, or sink low with them. Listen Praise, if you lie to me about this, you’re smart. But if you lie to yourself. If you deceive yourself about this, you’re a fool.

Beware Praise. Beware. These friends of yours that comes after you. Those friends of your friends that caresses you across your shoulders – at their own dictation. . .  What are they after? Are they interested in you, or your body?

Think, Praise Think. These are not the kind of friends you need. These are not the ones to surround yourself with. They are not the ones to listen to. Praise, these are not the ones to love. These ones don’t love, they lust. Beware Praise, Beware. Pull out of these ones. Your welfare lies below the foundation of their heart. Choose the right friends. Stand out.

Allow the right friends to choose you, and your life, your future, your dreams will be right.

Think Praise, Think. When with your friends, are you afraid they might pressure you into doing what you know is wrong? What shouldn’t be done. Are these ones your friends, praise? Beware, Praise Beware. For a word is enough for the wise.

You’ve read more than a word.

Pull out of these ones. Beware the friends you keep. Beware the friends you let keep you. or someday, when you are alone. Someday, on your deathbed, you’ll remember the words of this note. You’ll remember the day you read this note. You’ll remember this warning. This advice.  This plea to beware.

Someday when your life would be in  shambles.  When these friends have wrecked and battered you . That day when there would be no note for you to read. That day when there would be no one to console you. To advice you.  To warn you. That day, you will look back to this day - in pains. In brokenness of heart. In tears.  With biting of  the fingers. In regret, and wish you had followed the words of this note.

You would want to turn back the hands of time, but time would turn back your hands and warn you to beware. Because then, it would be too late for you . ..to beware.

Now that you have time,

Beware, Praise Beware.

At that point in time when you find yourself sitting down, and puzzling over the last few days of your life . . .what do you think? What do you feel?

Maybe the fact is that we constantly make mistakes, but the realization that we might have avoided it, for the most part dawns in painfully. Where are we? How did we get here?

It is at such times of sober reflections where we find ourselves sitting alone – not necessarily of our own will but of silent necessity that the true reflections of the life we are living or have been living glooms at us. It is at such times that we are sobered by the things we should have done. The words we should have said. And the contacts we should have made. It is at such times that we truly know what we had.

But do we really stop to think?

What’s it with life anyway, that its necessary we take some time and pause? Maybe I don’t know. But how powerful is life? What bearing does life have over us?

Sometimes we think we’re so busy. Too engulfed in the activities demanded or expected of us. And so we move on, thinking we have it all figured out. But do we?

Life has a way of making us stop and think; no matter how fast we think we’re sailing. No matter how fast we think life is running. But is life really running fast? Aren’t we the ones trying to fasten it up?

The savour of it all is that no matter how busy we are or we think we are – that we cannot create time for the little things of value tugging at us, no matter how occupied we believe we are, that we cannot create time to reflect. To look back on the past few days – On the life we’ve been living. No matter how we try to ignore the little mistakes we’ve been making – in the name of there is no time. . . Someday, life will stop us. The time will don’t have, will have us. No matter how busy, occupied, or timeless we believe we are, we can never stop time from stopping us. We will all find time to die.

Maybe we should describe time as an abstract being devoid of human emotions, reasoning or idiosyncrasies. The fact that we hate to stop – to look back, has no effect on time. It won’t stop time from stopping us. But again, how did we get here? It’s not always been like this, or has it?

Mistakes are not aliens in the transit of our daily activities as humans. But they could be grievious at times. And most times, it’s the grieviousness of a mistake that forces us to stop, because unless we stop, we cannot continue our transit.
These mistakes blurs our views. Our eyes. Our focus. If we must run, then we must stop. But how did we get to this point? What have we done with our lives . . . that must make us stop and think? Do we really have time?

The true fact

is, no finite being has time, or can claim monopoly over it. It is evenly distributed by the creator among all beings. We can only create time. We don’t have it; we don’t own it. If we would take a break from the hassles of our daily activities, if we would stop trying to fasten up life, and create time to reflect on everyday lived; if we would pay attention to those things we think are little of value – tugging at us, and try to correct every mistake we make, as we transit along life – before they explodes . . .then, but only then, we don’t have to worry about time stopping us, because we’ve stopped to think. It’s much better to stop, than to be stopped.

We need to realize that we can’t run from our mistakes. Our past. Our problems. Our struggles.

Suppressing our mistakes, or trying to fasten up life can threaten emotional and spiritual health and become a festering sore that would express itself someway, sooner or later. If we won’t stop to think.

If we won’t stop and deal with our past, we would be stopped – at the time when we need must run, to think. Since we’ve decided not to deal with our past, then we must not complain when our past decides to deal with us. It’s either we stop, or we’re stopped.

Facing our mistakes is similar to what happens in an earthquake. When a large amount of pressure builds up, and the earth is forced to make a large adjustment, great damage occurs to property and lives.

However, if the earth makes small shifts frequently, pressure is relieved gradually and little damage occurs. The same is true when we stop to think, as we transit through life. The same is true if we take time to pause, and face our mistakes as soon as we realize them.

Like a small earth tremor, no great damage occurs. But disregarding small mistakes causes them to build up. When we finally stop, to look back, or we are stopped by time to face them. To deal with them, a horrendous explosion may take place that wrecks our being – shattering our dreams and hopes, and causes great damage to everyone.

No one is so busy that he or she doesn’t have time to visit the loo. No matter how busy we believe we think we are, we must find time to stop and think; To leave the crowds. To ponder at the silent reflections of the life we’ve been living. To give attention to those things we treat as of little value.

If we think we are busy and have no time to stop and think, we would be stopped to think. And it might be at a time when we really need to run.

Mistakes are termites. If you think termites are weak and harmless, just wait till they pull down a pillar. A pillar in your life. No mistake is of no value. If we have no time to stop and pause, someday – no matter how busy we might be, we would all find time to die.

SAMDAVIAN LOGIC

1.

Expect anything from anybody; be consciously alert. Always be on your guard.

Surprise is an inherent human weakness, kill it. By expecting anything from anybody, you've successfully murdered surprise (in you) and yet, created surprise in your enemy (or the other party). If for an instance, you turn your back, only to find a trusted friend pointing a gun at you, you don't have to look or appear shocked; just quietly swallow the scene and accept the truth that you are facing a fact, and face him calmly - (both the gun and your friend), without an element of surprise.

By expecting anything from anybody, you've resurrected surprise in your friend. He or She expects you to be surprised, because you shouldn't, (naturally) expect such from them.

Murder the surprise in you.

Detonate the surprise in others.

Surprise others by not being surprised.

Expect anything from anybody.

Career / Life And Mistakes: Stopping To Think by ify01: 11:27am On Jun 19, 2018

SAMDAVE

But they could be grievous at times. And most times, it’s the grievousness of a mistake that forces us to stop, because unless we stop, we cannot continue our transit. These mistakes blurs our views. Our eyes. Our focus. If we must run, then we must stop. But how did we get to this point? What have we done with our lives . . . that must make us stop and think? Do we really have time? The true fact is, no finite being has time, or can claim monopoly over it.

It’s either we stopped, or we’re stopped.

If we have no time to stop and pause, someday – no matter how busy we might be, we would all find time to die.[url]At that point in time when you find yourself sitting down, and puzzling over the last few days of your life . . .what do you think? Morning to everyone, please I heard that only science students are eligible to apply for uniabuja remedial, my question is what about arts students? A friend was saying they're to apply for some kind of diplomat, which I dont really understand, Pls can someone explain this in a more better way? Thanks
Remedial is only for Science students - as you rightly heard.
An art student might be pushed to another department. depending on his result. e.g if you applied for English, and you failed literature, you're likely to be pushed to linguistics. Maybe your friend applied for history and diplomatic studies.

Hello,.

To solve this issue, kindly check the template (theme) function.php and remove the redirect code.

I couldn't find any redirect code in the function.php but i wouldn't mind getting an idea on what to look out for
