motionarena: I recently went to the Market to get cooking ingredients and decided to buy 1k meat just to add to the sauce. The butcher did not initially want to sell for me, so he called be back as I was about leaving.
He sold 1k meat and cut dem into 4 pieces. When I cooked the meat, it reduced into small chunks. I remembered, I recently bought suya for 1k and its way more than this raw meat I got and considering the processing, labor and spices that goes into preparing suya one would think it should be less in quantity than raw meat.
Was I cheated by the butcher or Suya is a different kind of meat

This is the problem the UK has. The country has been receiving a lot of bad press in recent times. As a writer, I have also been guilty of this. A poultry farmer recently criticised Nigerians in the UK, claiming they work three shifts just to survive. He also said that no Nigerian in the UK can boast of having £20,000 in their bank account. Similarly, a social media personality, Temi Ashebu, a 46-year-old single mother based in Florida, US, accused Nigerian men in the UK of mostly doing menial jobs to survive. This has become the strategy of people seeking social media attention, and it is unlikely to stop. It is rage bait.
The UK certainly has its challenges. However, people often become so accustomed to the positives of a place that they begin to focus almost entirely on the negatives. After the excitement of settling into a new environment fades, the mind naturally adapts and starts noticing imperfections instead.
I want this article to offer something beyond what you can easily find on Google, so I will make it a little personal.
In 2022, I met a lady at work who told me she had been earning less than ₦50,000 a month in Nigeria. Life became so difficult that a family member agreed to fund her relocation abroad with the understanding that she would repay the money later. She grabbed the opportunity. From earning ₦50,000, she began making the equivalent of over ₦2,000,000 a month doing blue-collar jobs. She proudly told me she was almost done repaying the money, much to the surprise of the person who financed her relocation. To her, the UK was the best country in the world.
I also met a teacher who earned ₦70,000 a month, and even those salaries were irregular. Sometimes, her employer simply did not pay. Moving to the UK transformed not only her life but also the future of her son, who was still in Nigeria at the time.
Another person is my benefactor. He was born into a large family in the suburbs of Lagos State. Life was hard. He lived with his family in an uncompleted building while pursuing a career in Accounting and trying his hand at business. The more money he made, the greater the financial demands from his extended family became.
One night, he sat down and reflected on his life. He realised that a rich man surrounded by poor people can still feel poor. He knew he needed to take a bold step, create a fresh path and open doors for his siblings. With the little money he had saved, he relocated to the UK about 12 years ago, long before the healthcare visa era.
According to him, life was difficult. Visa sponsorship required almost divine intervention. He worked in factories, warehouses, hospitals, bars, anywhere he could find work. During COVID, he laced up his boots and confronted danger daily. He eventually made enough money to buy a house, got married and started bringing members of his family to the UK. This man played a significant role in bringing me here, and I will always be grateful. Today, life is good, and most of his siblings are now in the UK working in professional careers.
I remember arriving in the UK in October 2021 with just £10, which I exchanged at Yaba Market in Lagos, two large travelling bags filled with foodstuffs that my mum packed for me, and about ₦100,000 in my account. I arrived alone. Today, if I choose to leave, I will be leaving with a beautiful family. I also went from doing a blue-collar job to sitting in a predominantly white office in a major government organisation.
What amazes me most is what the future could hold. I love the quality of education my son is receiving, and I look forward to helping him fulfil his potential. I now send my parents sizeable monthly stipends, and they can visit the UK whenever they wish. I could never have done that while living in Nigeria. One day, I told my dad, “Whenever you need anything, just call me. I am here for you.” He almost cried.
My story is not an isolated one. Many Nigerians who started with blue-collar jobs are gradually transitioning into technology, management and other professional careers. Is it easy? No. Is it possible? Absolutely.
I know an engineer who was working in healthcare and preparing to leave the UK because his visa was about to expire. Someone encouraged him to keep applying for jobs, even though it seemed like searching for a needle in a haystack. He gave it one last shot and landed a £79,000-a-year role with a well-known logistics company. The company sponsored both his visa and those of his family members for five years, covering all the associated costs.
The statistics also tell an interesting story. Nigeria is consistently listed by the Migration Observatory and the World Bank as one of the top recipients of remittances sent from the UK, alongside India and Pakistan. Official migrant remittances leaving the UK amount to roughly £9.3 billion each year. Nigeria receives a significant share of that money. The reverse is virtually non-existent.
Is the UK a perfect place? Certainly not. Life is expensive, visa restrictions can slow people’s progress, the cost of living is high, racism still exists, and good jobs can be difficult to secure.
The problem is that many Nigerians who are doing well value their privacy and rarely share their success stories. Those who are struggling often take to social media to vent their frustrations, while others pretend everything is perfect. In today’s world, the loudest voices often shape public perception.
To this day, there is still a huge demand for talented Nigerians in the UK, and there are many legitimate opportunities for those who are willing to work hard, develop themselves and remain consistent. The UK is not perfect, but for many people, it remains a place where lives can be transformed.
I often wonder what my life would have looked like if I had never moved here. For everything this country has made possible for my family and me, I remain deeply grateful.

Some men have spent years paying for dates, buying gifts, settling bills, sending transport money, and showing up for people. Yet nobody has ever thought to do something similar for them.
This is why what may seem small to a woman can feel massive to a man.
The gift is rarely the point but the effort is. The money is rarely the point. The thought is. Many men are not starving for luxury. They are starving for appreciation.
Perhaps one of the most misunderstood truths about relationships is that men are often easier to impress than people think. Not because their standards are low, but because genuine acts of care directed towards them are surprisingly rare.

Bola Tinubu will not win the 2027 election. This man has turned Nigeria into a headquarters of suffering with his bad policies and complete lack of empathy. From shattered economy to total security collapse, it is simply too much for Nigerias to bear another 4 horrific years of Tinubu, Nigeria will not survive it.
The economic pain alone is enough to reject him. The fuel subsidy removal and naira float that Tinubu crudely and implemented has brought total hardship for all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion. Food prices have tripled, inflation is devouring households, and businesses are collapsing everywhere. Approval ratings even from Tinubu's kitchen hover around 30 percent with massive disapproval.
How can anyone vote for more hunger when children are crying every day and going hungry every night? It's not possible. On the security , he is a complete failure. For the very first time in Nigeria's history, military generals are dying like flies under this administration. Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, Major General Rabe Abubakar and others have been cut down by bandits and terrorists. Instead of decisive action and proper mourning, Tinubu and his loyalists were busy partying even as one of these heroes was being buried. While families cry blood, Aso Rock pops champagne. A heartless leader has no match like this one.
Remember the Yelwa Plateau massacre? When gunmen slaughtered innocent Nigerians? The only reason they died is that Tinubu is president. Tinubu could not even visit the victims to console them. He stopped halfway with no deep engagement. Remember when Victims were dragged to the Kaduna airport for a quick 10-minute photo-op. He mumbled something about no light at the airport and flew off immediately. No hospital visits, no real comfort for grieving families.
This man treats Nigerians as if they have no feelings, just fly-by gestures and empty promises. He shows nothing but pure undiluted wickedness. Even his own ally El-Rufai, who supported him before, was detained under ICPC. His mother died while he was still in detention. The woman's health worsened from the stress of seeing her son locked up like a criminal. They released him later for the burial but the damage was already too much. How will Tinubu face Northern people after this kind of government harassment and betrayal?
And talk about borrowing. Tinubu has borrowed far more than previous administrations combined since 1960 that were still paying fuel subsidies. In three years, Tinubu has added tens of trillions in debt. Over 65 trillion, surpassing even what Buhari borrowed over eight full years with subsidy still in place. Is he taking Nigerians for fools? He removed the subsidy claiming it would save money and reduce borrowing, yet the debt is exploding like never before while people continue to suffer. Where is all that money really going? Pure deceit and wickedness at the highest level.
Internationally, there is no confidence in him. The Trump administration is showing serious disapproval over the insecurity, killings and general mess. Tinubu had to spend millions lobbying just to calm tensions. The Israeli government is not smiling with him either.
Karma also has come for Tinubu. The same US government under Barack Obama that they used to remove Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 with propaganda, lies and blackmail criticism is the same America under Trump that now wants Tinubu out. Jonathan said it clearly before. History is repeating itself bitterly. The forces that helped bring him to power are now showing him the exit door.
Worse still, his close allies like Bayo Onanuga and Abike Dabiri are not helping matters. Instead of working for national unification, they consistently unleash tribal and ethnic slurs against one section of the country, especially the Igbo side. Onanuga openly says he owes no apology for calling them threats to Yorubas. Abike shows no restraint either. They are dividing Nigeria further instead of bringing people together. How can anyone win a national election when his boys keep scattering the country with hate speech?
Reject Tinubu is trending in streets, markets and online. Tinubus billboards and campaign vehicles are constantly attacked by frustrated and angry Nigerians wherever they see them. Northern anger, Southern frustration, everywhere there is rage,anger and.
Tinubu thinks Nigeria is his personal Lagos empire that he can control forever. But 2027 will send him to his political grave forever.
The masses are ready for a revolution. Tinubu, your time is up. Nigerians will deliver the ultimate savage slap at the polls. It will be total rejection. God save Nigeria from this kind of useless leadership. 2027 is the year we sweep this nonsense away once and for all..
