PRESS RELEASE To All Catholic Bishops and Major Superiors of Institutes of Consecrated Life, Catholic Priests, Consecrated men and women, Catholic Lay Faithful, We, the members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), as teachers of the faith and morals do have the serious obligation to educate our faithful on their role in the political life of the country. We have observed that the political atmosphere is very tense and also noticed the political realignment that is taking place. Some politicians are changing political parties and urging their supporters to switch over their support to their new parties as well. Given this development, we wish to use this opportunity to make it clear that the Catholic Church remains ever apolitical and does not endorse or subscribe to any political party. Consequently, we hereby declare that no Catholic clergy or religious should publicly endorse any candidate for political office. Liturgical ceremonies must never be used as an opportunity for political campaigns. Similarly, ecclesiastical properties should not be used as places for support for any political candidate or party. All priests and religious should avoid giving the impression that the Church favours one candidate over another or one political party over another. These are difficult times in the history of Nigeria. As people of faith we must work hard and also pray hard for the future of Nigeria. During the military rule, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) composed the Prayer for Nigeria in Distress. Dearly beloved in Christ, Nigeria is in distress. We consequently, call on Catholics to recite this prayer at all Masses and other liturgical celebrations. We entrust Nigeria into the hands of God and implore Him to improve the situation in our country. May God intervene in the life of Nigeria once again, so that we can enjoy true peace, justice, and prosperity. May God bless Nigeria. Most Rev. Augustine Akubeze Archbishop of Benin City President, CBCN Most Rev. Camillus Umoh Bishop of Ikot Ekpene Secretary, CBCN #copied Facebook! |

ssogundele:There are different seasons in Christendom; Advent season, Easter season etc, all these seasons have their peculiar starting dates and ending. However, since Ash-Wednesday marks the beginning of Lenten season and Easter day marks the beginning of resurrection of Jesus Christ(Easter-tide), so Pentecost which is basically commorated to ursher in the holy spirit just like that of Apostles of old. so pentecost marks the end of Easter celebrations in the Church. |
Rumour everywhere! |
daveP:yea...............it's just a representation and assumption but no verse in the scriptures points to that ascertion. fine we can compare and contrast, but a times things like this must be treated with care; whether, John passes sin of the world on Jesus or not, does not matter, but what matters is doing the will of Jesus christ, person may not understand these things and yet be holy and that holiness and love is what Jesus requires. because this argument takes us to no where, but our faith in God. thanks and happy Sunday! |
daveP:to ur own opinion, did John passed the sins of mankind to Jesus by virtue of baptizing him? |
engrchykae:In addition sir, John is not a high priest, he is d last prophet sent to prepare God's path by preaching repentance and Jesus Christ is the highest priest of God. |
Pls., can Mr. live4gospel and gospelman, juxtapose ur earlier acertion dat John is a high priest and that he passed on the sins of everyone upon Jesus Christ? can u also explain the essence of baptism in Christendom? |

KATSINA—A woman identified as Sahura reportedly gave birth to quadruplets, all boys, in her home at Zakara area of Makera village, Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State without any assistance. It was gathered that after giving birth, Saturday evening, Sahura later proceeded to the General Hospital, Dutsinma. A source in the hospital, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said though all the babies survived, they are underweight. The source also said the woman doesn’t have an ante-natal care attendance record and despite an offer to accommodate them for further examination in the hospital, they insisted on going back home to return the following day (yesterday), a promise they did not fulfil. According to the source, “it is true. The woman gave birth at home on Saturday. After the birth, the woman, the babies and the husband proceeded to the hospital on Sunday. “But when they were asked to stay in the hospital for further examination, they insisted on leaving to return the following day (yesterday). But as I speak with you we have not seen them in the hospital. “And upon interrogation, we discovered she did not attend any hospital for ante-natal care. Again, there was no scan before the birth.” Another source has it that the delivery of the quadruplets made it third of Sahura’s delivery. In October last year, one Gaje Zubairu, also without antenatal care, gave birth to quadruplets through caesarean section, but she died four days after. Three of the quadruplets survived, but one died days after delivery before the mother, Gaje, died. copied, Vanguard newspaper. |

The BBC World Service says it has appointed new leaders for the East and West African languages as part of its continuing expansion on the Africa continent. It disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the East African languages team would be led by Kenyan-based Rachel Akidi Okwir, while Nigeria’s Toyosi Ogunseye would head its West African counterpart, managing Afrique, Hausa, Igbo, Pidgin English and Yoruba languages. The statement noted that Ogunseye, the current Editor of Sunday Punch, Nigeria’s most widely-read newspaper, would be joining the BBC in January 2018, while Okwir has been with theBBC since 2002. Ogunseye, who became the first female editor in the 45 years history of The PUNCH, is an award-winning journalist with a passion for investigative reporting. “She has won over 30 awards and was the first Nigerian to win the prestigious Knight International Journalism award,” the statement added. Toyosi is a fellow of the President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative and currently sits on the board of the World Editors Forum. COPIED FROM PUNCH NEWSPAPER........ |
Only for those who want to serve God holistically....................it is not easy to serve Him, but by his grace we can strive through. The ways of God is totally different from human beings, we can only follow Him in total obedient and utmost humility that what He has promised will come to pass. May the name of God be praised, worshipped, honoured both now and forever............the case of Zachariah is a true test that those who wait upon the Lord will surely sing hyme of joy to His Holy name, He is our heavenly awesome Father, creator of all mankind............ Gospel LK 1:5-25 In the days of Herod, King of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah of the priestly division of Abijah; his wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. Both were righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren and both were advanced in years. |
