http://authorityngr.com/2016/03/Igbo-monarchs-PFN-human-rights-activist-want-Emir-accomplices-arrested/ By Steve Oko On 20/03/2016 05:35:48 AM Share Igbo monarchs, PFN, human rights activist want Emir, accomplices arrested As reactions continued to trail the abduction, conversion to Islam and probable marriage of Miss Ifesinachi Ani, by Muslim syndicates, Igbo monarchs have called for the immediate arrest of all those fingered in the criminal act. The position was conveyed yesterday by the Chairman of Southeast Traditional Rulers Council and the traditional ruler of Mgboko Ngwa Amaise Autonomous Community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, HRM Eze Eberechi Dick, in an interview with The AUTHORITY on Sunday. The royal fathers strongly condemned the act and warned that the peaceful disposition of Ndigbo should not be taken for weakness or cowardice. The monarchs called on President Muhammadu Buhari and law enforcement agencies to rise to the occasion and ensure they rescue Ifesinachi from her wicked abductors. They also called on President Buhari to give protection and sense of belonging to innocent girls, who are victims of forced marriages which, according to them, should not be allowed in the modern age. The royal fathers equally tasked the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, to immediately invite the fingered controversial Emir from the Northwest to explain his role(s) in the saga, and to be prosecuted if found culpable, stressing that enough is enough. Similarly, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has strongly condemned the incident and expressed worry over the current wave of abduction of young Christian girls who are later converted to Islam and married off to Muslims against their will. The Chairman of PFN, Abia State Chapter, Rev. Dr. Theophilus Anyimpson, while reacting to Ifesinachi’s abduction, raised the alarm over what they dubbed plots by Muslims to decimate Christianity in Nigeria through forceful conversion and marriage. He however said that, “nobody, religion or authority can succeed in eradicating Christianity in Nigeria because the Church is deeply rooted on a strong foundation – Jesus Christ. “We know that Muslims are always looking for a way to wipe out Christianity in Nigeria and dominate everywhere but they cannot succeed. Nobody can be a threat to Christianity. Nobody, no matter how highly connected, can succeed in eradicating Christianity. “Some emperors and world leaders tried it in the past but failed. So, nobody can try it and succeed. We are ready to defend our faith to the end and God is with us”. The PFN boss, therefore, called for the immediate arrest and investigation of all those fingered in the abduction of Ifesinachi irrespective of their status, contending that the act remains criminal and evil. “Marriage is by consent and not by force”, he said, adding that “even the consent of the parents must be sought and obtained”. Also adding his voice, an Umuahia-based human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Dr. Anthony Agbazure, has volunteered to render free legal services to ensure Ifesinachi gets justice. He expressed surprise that an Emir fingered in the saga is yet to be arrested, and called on the IGP to immediately order for the arrest of the said Emir for interrogation and prosecution. Agbazuere vowed to mobilise other lawyers and human rights activists both nationally and internationally, to get justice for Ifesinachi and other victims of “criminal abduction, forceful conversion and marriage against their volition to end the ugly trend”. He also called on Nigerians irrespective of their religion or tribe to be united in the crusade against forced marriage which he described as “criminal and inhuman”. 27 Likes 1 Share

Those life could have been saved had Buhari acted much earlier as the President of all Nigerians. All he had to do was talk to them, they were willing and ready for dialogue. Even in Aljazeera interview, u here Buhari saying, "y should we talk to them" . That makes talking now difficult, because lives have been lost. It may already be too late to turn back. Politics / Biafra: DSS Said The Court Can't Save Me - Kanu by Igobang: 6:45pm On Mar 21, 2016 |
http://www.authorityngr.com/2016/03/DSS-said-the-court-can-t-save-me--Kanu/ By Ameh Ejekwonyilo On 21/03/2016 04:58:52 AM Share DSS said the court can't save me - Kanu Detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Biafra Radio, Dr Nnamdi Kanu, has said that state security officials told him that the courts could not save him. Kanu said through one of his lawyers, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, that operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) told him while he was in their custody that both the courts in Nigeria and the British government cannot save him in his bid to regain his freedom. Kanu, who is facing a six-count treason charge, asserted that he is a victim of persecution by the Federal Government and its agents which have continued to violate his human rights through his prolonged incarceration. Through one of his lawyers, the IPOB leader expressed his readiness to face trial, adding that what he wants is a “fair trial and not persecution.” In a statement by the counsel, Mr. Ejiofor, which was made available to The AUTHORITY, Kanu said he was wrongly arrested and detained. Kanu has already filed a suit before the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Court of Justice against the violation of his rights. In the fundamental enforcement rights suit he filed before the ECOWAS Court, Kanu prayed for requisite redress under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and other International Conventions to which Nigeria is a signatory. He said: “We were reliably informed by Nnamdi Kanu that his persecutors told him in the course of their interrogation that even the British government cannot secure his freedom, as the courts should go ahead and make orders they like but none would be obeyed,” Ejiofor said. It was the submissions of his counsel that the unlawful detention of his client from October 14, 2015 till January 20, 2016, without any lawful order of the court, and in flagrant disobedience of orders of courts of competent jurisdiction, all directing for his unconstitutional release and discharge, amounted to a gross violation of his fundamental human rights. Ejiofor, who chronicled all the alleged breaches of Kanu’s fundamental human rights, recounted that the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja specified in the First Information Report originally filed against him, had discharged his client of all bogus and frivolous allegations against him but “the Department of State Security that dragged him to court refused to obey the orders of the same court”. According to the statement: “Recall that on December 29, 2015, during the Presidential Media Chat, the President told the whole world that Nnamdi Kanu cannot be granted bail, alleging that he came into the country without a valid travelling passport. This pronouncement was roundly condemned by both local and international commentators. His pronouncement was viewed as a clear usurpation of the functions and powers of the judiciary. “Though very regrettable and extremely unfortunate, Nnamdi Kanu was refused bail on January 29, 2016. In refusing him and other defendants bail, the court also cited the facts of his possession of dual passports as a flight risk, and as such held that he cannot be granted bail,” he said. This position, according to Ejiofor “was in keeping in line with the pronouncement of the President of the Federal Republic if Nigeria in his media chat on December 29, 2015. It is a case of a witch crying in the night and a baby dying in the morning. “The same Kanu who has been announced to the whole world to have sneaked into the country without a valid passport, now has his two valid passports (British and Nigerian) seized by the operatives of the DSS. “A formal application to secure the release of these two passports was made in open court by Nnamdi Kanu’s defence team in February 9, 2016, which the learned trial judge in his ruling delivered on that same day refused to grant. This is a clear indication that Nnamdi Kanu came into the country with valid travelling passports contrary to the erroneous views expressed at the media chat.” The AUTHORITY recalls that Justice John Tsoho had on January 29, denied bail to Kanu and two other pro-Biafra agitators, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, who are facing trial with him. The trio are answering to a six-count treason charge that was preferred against them by the federal government. Kanu, who was hitherto the Director of Radio Biafra and Television, has been in detention since October 14, 2015, when he was arrested by security operatives upon his arrival to Nigeria from his base in the United Kingdom. The defendants were in the charge that was signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mr. Mohammed Diri, alleged to have committed treasonable felony, an offence punishable under Section 41(C) of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. FG alleged that they were the ones managing the affairs of IPOB which it described as “an unlawful society”. Specifically, Kanu was alleged to have illegally smuggled radio transmitters into Nigeria, which he used to disseminate “hate broadcasts”, encouraging the “secession of the Republic of Biafra”, from Nigeria. However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge on January 20, even as the court ordered their remand at Kuje Prison in Abuja.

Crime / IFESINACHI: Rescue Our Daughter, Father Begs Buhari, Ugwuanyi by Igobang: 6:36pm On Mar 21, 2016 |
IFESINACHI: Rescue our daughter, father begs Buhari, Ugwuanyi By Malachy Uzendu, Odogwu EmeÂka Odogwu and Maurice Okafor On 20/03/2016 05:14:36 AM Share IFESINACHI: Rescue our daughter, father begs Buhari, Ugwuanyi · Abduction, conversion, Northern agenda to Islamize Nigeria - CSOs Step father to Ifesinachi Ani, the abducted 14-year old SS 2 student of Government Secondary School, Apo Resettlement, Abuja, Mr. Sunday Ani, at the weekend appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State to rescue their daughter. Ifesinachi was kidnapped six months ago by a syndicate said to be working for a controversial Emir in the North West zone. She has since been converted to Islam and may have been married off. The linkman to the abductors simply known as Baba Abdul is in Police net, but we are not yet aware of the extent of success recorded in the search for the missing school girl. Speaking to The AUTHORITY on Sunday at his home in Umunnaji Ngene village in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr. Ani stated that Buhari and Ugwuanyi should not allow his daughter to be abducted and converted to Islam, because the family never give consent to such and the entire thing was like a Gestapo mafia affair. Mr Sunday Ani further pleaded with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, to task his men to rescue her abducted child. “We hear that her captors are very powerful and that they are boasting that nothing will happen. That is why we are appealing to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to break his silence over this matter and come to our rescue. President Muhammadu Buhari as the father of the nation should not sleep over this issue. “When they were asking us for votes, they promised to take care of us. The abduction of this girl is a serious matter and we expect out Governor to champion this cause because he has the capacity to talk to his colleagues in government and they will do something and rescue this girl whose abduction is reported to have been sponsored by an Emir in the North West zone of the country. Let the government help us recover this girl the way they handled that of Ese Oruru who was abducted in Bayelsa State,” he pleaded. Already, the entire Amechi Awkunanaw town is tensed-up following reports of the abduction and conversion of the teenager to Islam. Most of the youths in the community are boiling over and are contemplating moving over to the north in search of their abducted sibling if government continues to treat the issue with lethargy. However, the immediate-past Councillor of the ward, Hon Chinwuba Nnaji has been placating the youths along with some elders in the community. They are calming already frayed and charged nerves, promising them that government and security agencies are on top of the situation and would definitely rescue the girl. Mr. Ani informed our reporters that Ifesinachi is the second child out of four children of her mother, stressing that what happened to her was strange to them especially as Ifesinachi and the other three children were well nurtured to be responsible people in the noble tradition of Umunnaji Ngene village and Amechi Awkunanaw in general. He explained that although Ifesinachi’s mother called to inform him of the abduction of the girl, he has been in shock over the development, adding that since he has nobody to run to for assistance, the members of the family have resorted to prayers, especially when he learnt that the Police at the Apo Resettlement, had swept the report of the abduction under the carpet since six months ago when Mrs. Ani reported the matter. He however extolled the Management and staff of The AUTHORITY Newspapers for their consistency and obvious determination to assist the family get government to do what they should do to rescue the girl, stressing that such act of championing the cause of the less privileged and voiceless will not go unrewarded by the almighty God. *CSOs react Meanwhile, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and political analysts yesterday rose against the kidnappings of young Christian girls and converting them to Islam, concluding that it was part of a greater plot to Islamise Nigeria by the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy. They condemned spates of abduction and conversion, stressing that what was happening in the country, were “against natural justice, equity, good conscience, rule of law, right to religion and choice of association and against all known tenets in the constitution and fundamental human rights”. According to a political commentator, Mr. Larry Onwuta, the series of abductions and conversion of young Christian girls are well orchestrated agenda to multiply and take over Christians by force into Islam and described the trend as terrible. Onwuta said: “This is an agenda of the North in this political dispensation. For long, we have been fighting against Islamisation of Nigeria but unfortunately, most people in this part of the world have refused to understand the reality on ground. “Now, the Islamisation agenda method against Ndigbo have taken very broad and different dimensions following the new strategy embarked upon by the Islamic conversion which are focused on kidnapping of our young girls and youths, converting them to Islam, which amounts to total violation of their fundamental rights, negligence of their fundamental rights, religion, speech and natural justice. All Christians should rise up and fight against Islamization of Nigeria’’. For the founder of Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking and Community Development (INTACOM) Africa, Hope Okoye, religion should not be foisted on anybody, especially the minor. Okoye blamed it on President Buhari, saying he should call his people to order as the people doing all these are all from the North and they all belong to the same religion. The INTACOM Africa’s boss said: “If President Buhari is really interested in the progress and development of the country, he should call his religious group and Northerners. He should speak up now against this evil and senseless abduction of Christians and minors for that matter in the name of conversion and reward for conversion. “He should condemn it in its entirety and take practical steps to stop it. He should say something and warn his people against doing all these. He should mobilise everything he has against these people constituting nuisance to Islam as a religion. “All Islamic scholars and leaders should condemn this act as it is despicable. In religion, you don’t foist it on anybody. It is an abuse of rights to religion, and you can’t force it on anybody. The constitution is against it, human rights is against it and it’s against natural justice. God is against that, hence it is a matter of choice; it should not be against one’s will.” For the Campaign for Democracy (CD), Southeast zone, rising from its meeting in Onitsha yesterday, they noted that President Buhari’s silence over the issue shows absolute betrayal to the constitution and the fundamental rights of its citizens, which he swore to defend and uphold. Chairman of CD, Southeast zone, Dede Uzor. A. Uzor, in a statement said Buhari should ensure such practices are immediately stopped in the spirit of one Nigeria. Dede Uzor said: “This is a total case of abduction and kidnapping and it is against natural justice. Such practices should be proscribed; it’s an insult for underage, innocent children. This is against freedom of religion; against common justice; against natural justice. They hide under the cloak of religion or one Emir to abuse innocent girls by abduction and kidnapping not on consent. Marriage is by consent and not by force and once force is involved, it is a clear case of rape.” The CLO demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of all the people involved in the abduction of Ifesinachi Ani, adding that there could be several other Ifesinachi’s out there, but who are not yet exposed. On his part, Anambra State Chairman of CLO, Comrade Aloysius Attah, said the constitution is clear on how to handle such issues and wondered why freedom of religious worship and association were being abused especially on innocent children. “Abducting people and converting them to Islam is against the constitution and the law must take its due course. Muslim leaders are not untouchables and the law should be applied to them and this illegality must stop if this country must move forward,” the CLO boss stressed. http://www.authorityngr.com/2016/03/IFESINACHI--Rescue-our-daughter-father-begs-Buhari-Ugwuanyi/
