Land Classification:
Land can be classified as either free or acquired.

A parcel of land is considered free if the government has not indicated any interest whatsoever in that land. Such land is safe to buy because the title on the land can be perfected without issues.
In most cases, such lands will either have a gazette, a C of O or a governor's consent.

Now that you understand what it means for land to be free, you should also know that all lands that fall within areas that are designated as "urban areas" are under government acquisition until it becomes committed or free.

There are two types of acquisition:

1. Committed Acquisition
2. Global/General Acquisition.

Committed Acquisition:

A parcel of land is said to be under committed acquisition when the government has indicated an intention to use that land for a specific purpose such as provision of amenities.
Such lands belong to the government and can never be available for use by individuals. If you purchase a land that is under committed acquisition, it will be impossible for you to perfect your land title and you'll only be occupying the land until the government comes to kick you out.

Global or General Acquisition:

Lands that are under “general acquisition” or “global acquisition” can later be confirmed "free" or "committed" as the case may be.

A land under general acquisition can become free by a process called excision.

“Excision is a process whereby the government releases a portion of an expanse of land that is not committed” If a parcel of land that was formerly under acquisition becomes excised; it is then considered free and becomes gazetted.

The gazette then becomes the title on the land and such land is safe to buy because a proper title can be processed on the land.

A second case where lands under general acquisition can be released is if an individual purchased a land that was under acquisition without going through an excision process.
Such lands can go through another process called “ratification” or “regularization” in which case the land owner pays for the land to be ratified or regularized. The only conditions in this case are that the land in question must not fall within a committed area and that the purpose for which the land was bought does not disrupt the original plan of the state. Conditions for ratification may differ from state to state...

- Electricity workers in Nigeria suspend their strike action 24 hours after causing total darkness in the country

- The suspended action was confirmed by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)

- Comrade Joe Ajaero, head of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) says the body has met with the federal government

Twenty-four hours after the entire Nigeria was thrown into darkness, the country's electricity workers have suspended their industrial action.

The strike was suspended when the effect of the action became biting and Nigerians started raising alarm even though many citizens still suffer irregular power supply.

The suspension of the strike action was confirmed by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company which announced further that its offices are now open for business.

The strike action had followed a 21-day ultimatum the workers issued Nigeria’s power minister, Saleh Mamman, who refused to dialogue with them.

In another statement confirming the suspension of the strike, Comrade Joe Ajaero of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), said a meeting had been convened with the federal government.

Ajaero disclosed that the grievances of the workers were addressed at the meeting which lasted till early on Thursday, December 12.

“Consequently, members are urged to return to their duty posts while we monitor the implementation of these agreements. We would not hesitate to resume action if the agreements are not implemented,” Ajaero said.

Graygist media earlier reported how the NUEE said it was set to embark on an indefinite strike on Wednesday, December 12, with claim about the expiration of the 21 days ultimatum issued to the Minister Mamman.

The report said the minister failed to dialogue with the union before the ultimatum which lapsed on the midnight of Tuesday, December 10.

Earlier, two ministers and the director-general of the national pension commission were summoned by the House of Representatives over the planned industrial action by the electricity workers.

The ministers and the head of the commission are to appear before the lower chamber on Thursday, December 12, to brief lawmakers on the move to embark on the strike.

A nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of issuing presidential directives in contravention of the provision of the Nigerian Constitution

The First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, has accused Mamman Daura of giving presidential orders without the knowledge of her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Aisha, who has always been at loggerheads with the Daura family, said Mamman, the president's nephew who lives in the Presidential Villa with his family, directed the scrapping the Office of the First Lady using a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu.

In a statement personally signed by the First Lady and titled, "Garba Shehu Has Gone Beyond His Boundaries”, Aisha said the directive from Daura, who she had once had a feud with when she returned from a trip abroad, embarrassed the president.

Stating that Nigeria's development is hinged on the ability of public officials to execute their mandates professionally, and to be shining examples in their various areas of endeavour, the First Lady said it is not a good sign when officials abandoned their responsibilities and started clutching at straws.

She said, rather than face his job as spokesperson for the president, Shehu has shifted his loyalty to others who have no stake in the contract that the President signed with Nigerians on May 29, 2015, and 2019.

The First Lady also said that Shehu has presented himself to these people as a willing tool and executioner of their antics, from the corridors of power even to the level of interfering with the family affairs of the president.

"We all remember that the chief proponent appropriated to himself and his family a part of the Presidential Villa, where he stayed for almost four years and when the time came for him to leave, he orchestrated and invaded my family’s privacy through a video circulated by Mamman’s Daughter, Fatima, the public was given the impression that on arrival into the country I was locked out of the villa by Mr President," Aisha said.

Alleging that Shehu failed to clear the air of the directive given by Daura, the first lady said the presidential spokesperson, who was privy and part of the plan and it’s execution, was shocked when he realized that she publicized her return to Nigeria in October and cleared the air on the many rumours that took over social media.


Aisha Buhari said her office was scrapped by Mamman Daura through Garba Shehu without President Buhari's knowledge.
“Garba then, vented his anger on the National Television Authority (NTA) Management insisting that the media crew to my office must be sacked. He succeeded in getting them suspended for doing their job. I had to intervene to save the innocent staff from losing their means of livelihood by involving the Department of State Services (DSS) in order to ascertain roles played by key actors in the saga," Aisha added.

Condemning his alleged disloyalty to the president, Aisha said in saner climes, Shehu would have resigned immediately after "going beyond his boundaries and powers."

"The latest of his antics was to wage a war on the first family through an orchestrated media campaign of calumny by sponsoring pseudo accounts to write and defame my children and myself," Aisha said.

She also said that Shehu’s misguided sense of loyalty and inability to stay true and loyal to one person or group has become apparent that all trust has broken down between him and the first family due to the many embarrassments he has caused the presidency and his family.

As the former President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife is remembered one year after he joined his ancestors, one of his sons, Dr Somadina Ikedife who has taken over the management of Ikedife Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State has described his late father as one who realized his physical frailty early in life, after he had learnt that "strong men ruled the world."

Dr Somadina disclosed this in a statement he titled "a view of an avatar" which he made available to journalists.

He said his father then thought of other ways to develop his strength, and chose to develop a very strong mind and character, adding that this lit in him a very strong desire to acquire knowledge and wisdom. He noted that his late father then became a very prolific reader and eagerly sort knowledge.

He acquired his first degree in Anthropology, University of London whilst an undergraduate medical student at University of Glasgow, Scotland.
This degree and further quest for knowledge exposed him to different phylosophies, religions, sects, cults and schools of thoughts.
He developed strong bonds with men and women at the head of these various groups.

"Ikenga was a deep and free thinker who interacted with everyone with an inquisitive but open mind. He had very poor tolerance for dishonesty.
He cherished the Catholic priests for their depth of knowledge, the Jehovah's witnesses for their strong character, the traditional religions for their punitive system, and the Islamic call "Al akhbar" because he believed that God is really great. These, created a bit of confusion to many minds about his religious affiliation, " he submitted.

He said the late Igbo leader welcomed those various groups he interacted with, but belonged to *none* of them.

He declared that his late father was a symbol of simplicity, someone who was averse to collecting gifts and very shy at asking for personal favours, "yet he would go miles seeking favours for others."

Junior Dr Ikedife told journalists that one needed no appointments to see his late father, saying all that was required was one's patience for him to consult with his patients first, then he would interact and engage with you in divers topics irrespective of your background.

According to him, the late elder statesman placed so much value on education that he would rather starve but made sure hundreds got a university degree. His kindness, he said, was displayed most through numerous free medical and surgical services, especially to those who could not afford them.

He had a very big sense of contentment, ever grateful to God for His much blessings to him. His prayers was always "thank God for His blessings and may God's will be done".

"Ikuku ebu mkpu (an unmoveable earth, as he was fondly called), believed so much in hard work, honest earning, fairness and justice. He was committed to community development, " he noted.

He explained that his late father was a man of many parts, adding that one needed an encounter with him to be able to understand that he was fair minded and a just man who desired a free, just and equitable society.
Dr Somadina insisted that many found late Dr Chief Dozie Ikedife rather quirky.

Dr Dozie Ikedife died on December 11, 2018.
