CrimeHow Nigeria Police Violate Human Rights. by igweakombi(op): 11:53am On Dec 11, 2019
A survey conducted by NOIPolls has identified the police as the worst violators of human rights in Nigeria.

According to the report conducted and unveiled in commemoration of this year’s International Human Rights Day, 83 per cent of Nigerians, who were interviewed, expressed the view that human rights violations were prevalent in the country.

Thirty per cent of Nigerians interviewed across the six geopolitical zones of the country blamed the police for the prevalent human rights abuses in the country.

Seventy-five per cent of the respondents, however, said they did not bother to report to anyone when their rights were violated.

The NOIPolls said when asked, majority of Nigerians interviewed did not know the meaning of human rights until it was explained to them.

The report stated, “For instance, when asked for their understanding of ‘human rights’, most respondents spontaneously ascribed it to right to basic amenities, right to good road, right to good employment and the right to some sort of social safety-net provided by the government.

“However, upon clear explanation, 86 per cent of the respondents claimed to be aware of their basic human rights.

“The poll results also revealed that most Nigerians (83 per cent) believe that human right violation is prevalent in the country. For instance, 32 percent of Nigerians interviewed disclosed that their rights have been infringed upon while few claimed that they know people whose rights have been infringed on in the past.

“Interestingly, respondents who stated that their right to freedom of movement, right to peaceful assembly and association, right to life, right to freedom of speech etc. had been violated before reported that the police and government officials were mostly responsible for the violation of these rights.

“It is rather worrisome to note that the institutions and agencies of government that were established to protect and defend these human rights are the ones being blamed for human rights violation in Nigeria.”

The report recommended that Nigerians should be sensitised to their fundamental human rights “through seminars, academic works and books that portray such rights as recommended by 15 per cent of the respondents.”

“Sensitisation campaigns, involving religious and traditional institutions, should, at intervals, be carried out to educate or enlighten their subjects on the scope of their rights and how to seek redress when such rights are violated,” the report said.

PoliticsBuhari In Trouble As Two Global Banks Dump Nigeria. by igweakombi(op): 11:43am On Dec 10, 2019
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has revealed that two global banks – HSBC and UBS – have closed their offices in Nigeria, even as it added that foreign investment had fallen sharply from a year ago.
Naira Reacts As CBN Injects Fresh $210m Into Forex Market

According to a report made available on Friday, November 2, the apex bank said foreign direct investment in Nigeria fell to N379.84bn ($1.2bn) in the first half of the year from N532.63bn ($1.7bn) a year earlier.
Reuters reports that It however did not give reasons for the banks’ closure.
The central bank said the outlook for the Nigerian economy in the second half was “optimistic” given higher oil prices and production but rising foreign debts and uncertainties surrounding the 2019 presidential elections were drawbacks.
Investor confidence in the country has been shaken since the central bank in August ordered MTN to bring back $8.1bn to the country, part of the profits the South African telecoms firm sent abroad.
CBN: Forex Ban On Rice, Toothpicks, 39 Items Lifted Nigeria Out Of Recession

A HSBC research note dated July 18 said a second President Muhammadu Buhari term “raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration, prolonging the stagnation of his first term, particularly if there is no move towards completing reform of the exchange rate system or fiscal adjustments that diversify government revenues away from oil.”
The CBN also said three lenders failed to meet its minimum liquidity ratio of 30 per cent, without naming them.
It added that non-performing loans had dropped to 12.4 per cent as of June 2018 from 15 per cent a year ago, still a long way above its five per cent threshold.
Government Agencies Barred As CBN Issues New Guidelines On Bureau De Change

“To further consolidate on the improvement, the Central Bank of Nigeria directed banks to intensify efforts at debt recovery, realisation of collateral for lost facilities and strengthening their risk management processes,” it said in the report.

PoliticsGlobal Awards For Africa Security Heroes: Nigerians Top The List. by igweakombi(op): 9:33am On Nov 25, 2019
Chiemelie Ezeobi who covered the 16th Africa Security Watch Awards themed, “Global Security Outlook: Challenges, Impediments and Prospects for a Secured Africa”, at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai, writes that a total of 68 persons, including individuals, organisations, academia, clergy, media, and security agencies from across the African continent, were honoured for their exemplary performances in their various fields of endeavour, especially in the security sector
For all 68 recipients of the 16th Africa Security Watch Awards themed, “Global Security Outlook: Challenges, Impediments and Prospects for a Secured Africa”, held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai, it was an honour well deserved as their excellence and hardwork finally paid off.
An initiative of Security Watch Africa (SWA), the grand finale of the two-day event was a colourful one to say the least and according to the Chairman, Board of Trustees, General Jospeh Nunoo-Mensah (Rtd), the former chief of defence staff, Ghana, was an opportunity to reward diligence in service.
The grand event started with a red carpet reception and cocktail but the occasion kicked off properly with the melodious national anthem of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and then the opening remarks by the chairman board of trustees, followed by the first keynote address by His Royal Highness Appolus Chu, Egbere Emere 1, Okorie Eleme, Rivers State, Nigeria and the second one by Prof. Samuel Tshehla, Executive Dean, Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
It was rounded off by the main keynote address by Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, Nigeria, represented by Lieutenant General Lami Adeosun, Chief of Policy and Plans, Nigerian Army before the first set of awards were presented.
The award lecture was given by Chief Wille Obiano, Executive Governor, Anambra State, and he was represented by Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi (Rtd), his SA on Creative Security.
After the second set of awards, Brigadier General SK Usman, (Rtd), the Conference Rapporteur/Member, Board of Trustees, Security Watch Africa Initiatives read out the communique from the lecture series held the previous day. This dovetailed into the third and vote set of awards before the vote of thanks, thus drawing the curtain on what was an eventful evening.
Afterwards, still floating in the euphoria of the successful evening, the President/ Chief Executive Officer, Africa Security Watch Initiatives, Mr Patrick Agbambu, said the theme couldn’t have come at a better time that now, owing to the threat of insecurity, both within the continent and other parts of the world.
He explained that the initiative was borne out of the need to ensure security in the Africa continent and by extension, ensure its developmental process .
“The future for SWA is that we aspire that the whole of Africa will be covered and our security consciousness and awareness will improve. The choice for this year’s event in Dubai, was for us to see what is on ground here and see how we can replicate same in our country.”
Awardees
Although 68 awardees were honoured, one particularly stood out; it was a post humous award for late DCP Usman Umar, a former Deputy Commisioner of Police, Operations Department, FCT Command, who was shot dead by rampaging Shiite sect on July 22, 2019. PoliticsArrest The Killers Of Kogi PDP Woman Leader Now: PMB Orders. by igweakombi(op): 10:33pm On Nov 24, 2019
PRESIDENT BUHARI AWAITS INVESTIGATION REPORT ON MURDERED KOGI PDP WOMAN LEADER

President Muhammadu Buhari expects scrupulous investigation into the heinous murder of Madam Achejuh Abuh, Woman Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Wada/Aro campaign council, in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Kogi State.

The President decries whatever could spur anyone to take the life of another human being, particularly a woman, who was burnt to death in her home in the most gruesome manner.

President Buhari charges all security agencies involved in the investigation to do a thorough and expeditious job on the matter, so that justice could be served without fear or favor.

“We must learn to behave decently, whether during elections or at other times. No life should be taken wantonly under any guise, and the fact that this reprehensible act occurred two days after voting shows primitive behavior, which should not be accepted in a decent society,” the President said.

He sympathizes with the family of the deceased, vowing that the law would catch up with the malefactors, and justice would be done.

Any descent to barbarism, as was visited on the PDP Woman Leader, President Buhari says, has gone out of the realm of politics, and is pure criminality and bestiality.

“Such evildoers must be brought to justice, irrespective of whatever allegiances they hold,” the President affirms.

RomanceWhy You Must Ignore Some Instagram Photos (A True Life Story) by igweakombi(op): 6:02pm On Nov 24, 2019
I heard the most intriguing story this weekend that made me question the impact social media has on our finances.
Sade: I need a favor. Please can I borrow N200, 000? I’ll pay you back with interest in 2 months.
Tolu: What do you need the money for?
Sade: Remember the Celine bag (N484, 000) I bought in February? I borrowed some of the money from Ngozi. Now she’s hounding me everyday. I need the money to pay her back.
Tolu: Why did you buy the bag if you can’t afford it?
Sade: Abeg don’t insult me o! Who told you I can’t afford it? I saw Lara’s blue one on Instagram in December. We are the same age, we are both working. So what makes you think she can afford it and I can’t?
Tolu: Look at you! Be following Lara! Don’t you know she’s an ‘Aristo’ girl.
Something is wrong with this picture, no?
I am a self-confessed Instagram addict! It gets me through many boring activities, but unfortunately, it has become the source of emotional and financial distress for a lot of people.
Instagram is only a collection of snap shots that make up a small part of people’s lives. So don’t let someone’s Instagram reel confuse your financial reality; create your own financial lane and stay there. There’s no shame in living on your own terms and saying, I can’t afford this right now. Instead of speculating on how other people are making their money, focus on building your own assets to the point that you can sustainably afford the things you want.
Here are 3 tips to help you get started.
Treat Your Life Like It’s a Balance Sheet

Sade and Tolu monthly salary: N300,000 p/m each
BALANCE SHEET Sade Tolu
ASSETS
Land/property 0 5,000,000
Stock portfolio 0 2,000,000
Cash in bank 200,000 500,000
TOTAL ASSETS 200,000 7,500,000
LIABILITIES
Rent 1,000,000
Payment plan for electronics 50,000 300,000
School fees 300,000
Loans 400,000 400,000
TOTAL LIABILITIES 450,000 2,000,000
NET WORTH -250,000 5,500,000
For example Tolu and Sade earn the same monthly salary but Tolu has clearly made better financial decisions over the years. It is obvious that she has invested and saved towards growing her assets, which means that even though she has 4x Sade’s liabilities, her net worth is over 2x Sade’s.A common mistake many people make is to measure their financial success based on their salary instead of their net worth, which gives them a false sense of financial security.
It is important to clarify that although liabilities and expenses are both costs they are slightly different. Liabilities are obligations you have already committed to and MUST pay while expenses are a choice. i.e. Tolu has to pay her rent while Sade chose to borrow to buy a Celine bag. Note, that not all debt is bad debt. If she were incurring debt that is proportionate to her income to buy an asset that provides a passive income that would demonstrate some financial intelligence.

Unfortunately, like Sade many people with decent incomes end up with equally large expenses that do not allow them to save and grow their assets.
Establish your net worth and determine what needs to be done to increase its value: Define and set a goal to increase it by i.e 15% p.a.
Build Multiple Streams of Income

Increase your assets by finding creative ways to augment your income, find a ‘side hustle’. This could be anything from becoming a House of Tara representative, selling Forever Living products or investing 15% of your income in building an investment portfolio of stocks and fixed income products that will give a good return as well appreciate in value over time.
We are always looking for quick fixes, everybody wants to hit the big time but very few people want to work for it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to ‘blow’, but while you are waiting find avenues to create sustainable and consistent passive income, no matter how small because over time it makes a difference. In the words of Lil Wayne, ‘ slow money is better than no money’.
So while you are speculating on how many Aristos Ngozi had met..........

RomanceBefore You Date The Next Married Man... Be Warned. by igweakombi(op): 4:07pm On Nov 19, 2019
No matter what you have been told about dating married Man, the truth is, you are setting yourself up for a heartbreak. No married man is ever worth it at the end of the of day. I know because I was “the other woman” for about four years. Married women hate my kind; not that I blame them but having said that,it does take two to tango. I am not holding the forth for anyone but I doubt if anyone ever deliberately sets out herself to date married man when she can be the wife herself….. It’s just circumstances and being the other woman is an exercise in futility. The only one having fun in this game is the man himself and please take it from me, these lying and cheating men may have you thinking you are unhappy at home and all that, nerve for one minute think they’re going to leave their wives for you because they won’t. There was never one time a Man left his wife for his” other woman ” and after 18 months for yet another woman. Being the other woman is a painful, traumatic and vicious experience where you become a victim of your emotions as well as a pawn in the hands of the man you have not hold over, although he has your heart in his hands and manipulates it to suit his needs. Hell, they said, has no fury like a woman scorned but in case I was scorned and could to absolutely noting about it except lick my wound. Three years later kunle left or rather abounded me. I still found myself bitter. Oh! The pain of rejection is best not experienced at all; but left me just to say its like someone twisting a knife into your heart and not letting go of the knife so you can at least be free of the pain. I still hurt and the fact that all the other men that tried to date me are also married has not helped in any way. I have been tempted to accept advances from other married men but I know better than that.
The painful truth about my story is that at the time kunle and I met and began to build our “relationship”, his wife of 11years lived abroad with their three children. It was so convenient for us to carry out our illicit affairs, as his wife only came home at Christmas,What that meant was that I was on my own all through Christmas. It was agonizing me but it only a matter of two weeks before his family went back and I was back as “the wife”, although I was pretty much on my own as far as such thoughts were concerned. Kunle promised me noting more than what we have.

Looking back now it is obvious that he also had no respect for me. He once asked me why no man has asked for my hand in marriage and I had simply ignored him. The cheek of it! Even in the heat of passion when men whispered “I love you” to even prostitutes, Kunle never for once said he loved me no matter how I cajoled him to say so. One night I held him off as he tried to make love to me,asking him that poignant question; “Kunle, do you love me at all”? I was very anxious for his response as I looked into his eyes, almost begging him to whisper in the affirmative but he did no such thing. I burst into tears hoping to blackmail him into saying it but he just began to flick the channels irrespective of my tantrums.
What difference would that make? I asked myself. I am not sure if it would have made any but I just wanted to hear him say it. Finally, he slept off on the sofa while I drank myself to sleep. Sometime in the night, he joined me on the bed and we made love without any verbal communication. Morning came and he left me a gift…money in forex for my travel. It always was his way of compensating me after every disagreement. He was a generous man who was stingy with his emotions but I loved him and that was a big issue as I wandered for how long I would stay in a relationship with someone else’s husband. When he was with me,his heart was with his wife and kids. I was, at the end of the day, nothing more than a sleeping partner and that hurts.

I didn’t have to wonder how much longer Kunle and I would stay together because one morning he casually announced his wife was returning home in a couple of five days as their children were better settled in boarding houses abroad…
It was a bombshell and kunle’s reaction that it will not change anything between us was no comfort at all especially as he just gradually but but steadily spaced me out. I would call and he would ignore me. This went on till about three weeks until one day,out of desperation I walked into his office pretending I was a client.
If I thought he was going to make some flimsy excuses to justify his behavior, he did no such thing; instead the idiot barked at me.
“What’s the meaning of this Bulky”? he retorted with undisguised irritation.

” Why are you treating me like this Kunle, what have I done to deserve this?” I muttered, half crying by now.
“Look,my wife is back and we have to separate for a while; that’s all I ask!”
“Why didn’t you pick up the phone to tell me that?” I asked, relieved that he only wanted us to be more cautious and that he was not throwing me away like I never mattered.?
Unfortunately, I found out that I was being thrown away like garbage, not because his wife was back but because someone else had taken my place. He had been too- timing me with the girl who worked in his office. I had asked him about her once bvt he had denied it.
Kvnle never got in touch with me again. The day I saw him at his office was the last time we spoke to each other. We lived in a small town and soon I saw him and his wife who returned home about a year after kunle used her as excuse to break up with me. The two_timing bad****. The few times I saw him at events he just looked through me like a mirror. I was so hurt that I sent him all manner of abusive texts and sent letters to his office hoping his wife would find one of them and walk out on him. That was childish but at that time of my life I was anything but grown up. I cried me a river and avoided all my friends because I didn’t want anyone asking questions about my loss of weight and drawn look. The sad thing was kunle never got in touch ever, not even when I lied in a text that I was pregnant . How he must have laughed at that!
I was so devastated, I felt used and dumped but I knew that I used him too, I also was not denial about the spinoffs of dating a married man, and just couldn’t believed kunle would spit me out like a bad taste after all we shared ( sex for which I got paid!) I finally understood why he couldn’t say I LOVE YOU.

I was 40 a few weeks ago and one promise I have made to myself is that no man will ever drag me down and step all over my emotions like kunle did. I owe it to myself to be dignified even in defeat if you decide to walk that path of dating married man, do be prepared for the heartaches that comes with it. According to a psychologist;men cannot love two women at the time, so if he were to love anyone at all it would be his wife and you will always be the other woman, concubine or mistress; and your job darling? To WARM HIS BED.

Christianity EtcPastor's Daughter Creates Sex Rosters For Her Three Husbands. by igweakombi(op): 11:07am On Nov 03, 2019
36-year-old daughter of a pastor has set tongues wagging after it came to light that she has married three men, all of whom she keeps in the same house and has sex with then according to a roster.

Ann Grace Aguti from Uganda is reported to have been married to Richard Alich, John Peter Oluka and Michael Enyaku, and has allocated huts to each of them in a house sited on a piece of land given her by her father.

One of the husbands Richard Alich, a retired police officer with 10 grown-up children disclosed that he became Grace Aguti’s husband after he met her returning from Brac Uganda, Ngora branch to pursue a loan facility.

“Her bicycle had developed a mechanical problem, so I offered to repair it. In the process, one thing led to another and I found myself here. I stay in that hut,” he said.

Another one, John Peter Oluka also said she only joked with Grace Aguti to be one of her husbands and she willingly accepted it.

“I met her at a swamp where I was grazing my cows and joked about her taking me on as a husband too – and that was it. She allocated me a hut. We have lived harmoniously for close to a year now. I have no problem with my co-husbands. The consensus among us is that mummy (Aguti) determines the duty (sex) roster and her decision is final,” he claimed.

A Local newspaper, New Vision reported that the development went viral after Grace Aguti’s unhappy father Pastor Peter Ogwang mobilised some family members to evict the men from the house.

Explaining her reason for engaging in a polyandrous marriage, she appeared to be on a deliberate mission to challenge the traditional status quo which allows only men to marry more than one woman.

“I was married before in a manner my clan wants but my desire is to have a tender loving husband, who can provide all my needs as a housewife. My husband was useless and I remained the breadwinner. When I left him, I started looking for that special someone, but I have not yet found him because even now, I have to feed the men that I have. So, my search continues!” Grace Aguti said unapologetically.

Interestingly, the mother of three from the Ngora district is reported to be six months pregnant but it is unclear which of her husbands is responsible for the pregnancy.

PoliticsJulius Berger Adopts New Design For Lagos-Ibadan Projects by igweakombi(op): 11:13am On Nov 01, 2019
Nigerian construction giant, Julius Berger Plc, has changed its design for the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway and plans to construct service lanes, bus stops and lay bays on the built-up areas along the express road.
The new features, it was learned, are part of the new design approved by the Federal Government to nip in the bud traffic congestions on the stretch of the road, which is the busiest road in Africa.
Apart from the service lanes, bus stops, and laybys, The Guardian learned that the interchange planned for Lotto area of the road was part of efforts to decongest the road.
Before now, there have been concerns over lack of bus stops and lay bays on the finished section with residents and commuters fearing that it might not solve traffic bottleneck associated with the road.
The project supervisor for Julius Berger Construction Plc, Solace Orlu, an engineer, confirmed the development. He told The Guardian that the additions were included in the new design for the road.
Orlu, who is also the Traffic Coordinator for Julius Berger Plc, explained that there are going to be service lanes in the built-up areas, like Ibafo, Arepo, Mowe, Aseese, Magboro where commuters could alight from buses.
He said: “ The projects have been redesigned. The ones completed are the main carriageways, vehicles are not supposed to park on these carriageways.

“There will be additional lanes added to the expressway so that if you are going through that area, you drive on the service lane”, he said.
Orlu stressed further that the road is now designed in such a way that motorists would not stop on the main carriageway, you but to keep driving to ensure a free flow of traffic.
He explained that the bus stops and lay bays would be on both sides of the service lanes.
On the proposed Interchange at Lotto, he promised that works would soon start, stressing that the project is being delayed due to the compensation issue.
“ The Ministry of Power, Works and Housing are sorting that out with residents and relevant religious bodies that are protesting against the project. We are not involved in that, the ministry is working on them but works will soon start on the project”, he added.
According to him, it is a normal thing that when you are doing construction works, some houses will be affected but they are resolving the issues.

Christianity EtcLove Your Wife As Your First Daughter: Pastor Chris Advises. by igweakombi(op): 8:48am On Nov 01, 2019
Pastor Christ says, “Treat your wife as your first daughter more than your mate.”

Man of God Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy Church and president of LoveWorld Incorporated has been teaching and pastoring since the establishment of his ministry in the year of 1989. Though LoveWorld Incorporated and Christ Embassy originated in Lagos, Nigeria, Pastor Chris is now reaching millions of people all around the globe with the message of salvation and the truth of the Gospel. He has delivered countless inspiring messages of hope and healing to his followers, while teaching how to live your life empowered by God.
The New Testament often paints an analogy or parable to explain a phenomenon or describe a relationship. This is seen in scripture at times to paint a picture of warning for us to understand how something should not be, while also instructing the right way something should go, according to the standard of the Lord. Pastor Chris has a unique way of connecting the Word of God to the here and now, rather than leaving it to belong only in the past.
Ephesians 5:22-33
22 Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. 25 Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

A very important passage of scripture is found in Ephesians chapter 5 and describes the Christ-centered relationship meant to be experienced and lived out between a man and his wife. How are we truly meant to understand this relationship and why is it so important to God that we do?

Well, the scripture tells us exactly why! Christ gave himself for the church out of great love for her and desire to be with her; to bring people back to God through Himself. In the same way, God shows us that husbands are to love their wife with the same reverence and devotion as Christ loves the church.
We so often confuse the role of husband and of wife in trying to make it neutrally sensitive and empowering. Pastor Chris believes the men have not been treating their wives in the way that the Bible shows us through parables and truth.
The passage in Ephesians teaches that men are to love their wives as they do their own bodies. Husbands are instructed to nourish and cherish their wives, just as the Lord Jesus Christ does for us, His beloved Church.
Without Christ, there is no need or possibility for a church. And without a head, it is not necessary to have a body. In these ways, we can understand the importance of this relationship between a man and a wife, sharing in different parts of one union.
It is not natural for us to treat others as we would treat ourselves, though this is what the Word of God tells us. We can always strive to treat others this way but are we even aware of our own self treatment, truly?
Can a man love his neighbor and despise himself? Verse twenty-nine refers to the reality that no man who despises himself, could love his own flesh. Only when we think this way, do we grasp the true meaning behind Pastor Chris’ words and encouragement to love our spouse with the unconditional love a parent has for their first born child.

Pastor Chris Says…
The esteemed Pastor Chris once said, “Treat your wife as your first born more than your mate”. By this he refers to the most intentional and life-giving relationship in the family. The job as a parent to their first child is to encourage them and raise them up, while being the rock they can always lean on.
The relationship Pastor Chris highlights is one that is covered in grace and understanding of the other, as a parent embraces their child, even in their shortcomings and failures. This is what the scriptures are portraying. A blameless church is seen by and through Christ, as a perfect bride is seen through her bridegroom’s eyes.

“If you take her as your mate, you will be offended at the things she does because you expect more from her. If you take her as you take your daughter, you will be gracious and overlook all the non-sense …. But at least, since the non-sense is coming from your daughter, it’s not too bad.”
“If you want the Gospel to produce results in your life, this is what you have to do. You have to put the Word to work in your family.”

ProgrammingFacebook Set To Launch New Cryptocurrency. by igweakombi(op): 6:27am On Nov 01, 2019
With Cryptocurrency Launch, Facebook Sets Its Path Toward Becoming An Independent nation.

Facebook has a plan to launch a new cryptocurrency named the Libra, adding another layer to its efforts to dominate global communications and business. Backed by huge finance and technology companies including Visa, Spotify, eBay, PayPal and Uber – plus a ready-made user base of 2 billion people around the world – Facebook is positioned to pressure countries and central banks to cooperate with its reinvention of the global financial system.
In my view as a social media researcher and educator, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is clearly seeking to give his company even more political power on a global scale, despite the potential dangers to society at large. In a sense, he is declaring that he wants Facebook to become a virtual nation, populated by users, powered by a self-contained economy, and headed by a CEO – Zuckerberg himself – who is not even accountable to his shareholders.
Facebook hasn’t behaved responsibly in the past, and is still wrestling with significant public concerns – and investigations – about its privacy practices, information accuracy and targeted advertising. Therefore, it’s important to see through the hype. People must consider who is reshaping the world, and whether they are doing it in the best interests of humankind – or whether they are just seeking to benefit the new class of elite technology executives.
Humanity needs ethical leadership, and time to think through the potential repercussions of rapid technological change. That’s why, in my view, Facebook’s cryptocurrency should be blocked by financial regulators until its design has been proved to be safe for all of global society.
You might not want to trust this man.

Understanding Libra

Technology companies are interested in a global currency that is native to the internet. That could allow companies like Facebook and Twitter to bring in more users to their platforms, and collect money from businesses who want to join the new system. They also want to siphon off business from the existing financial services industry. That sector is worth trillions of dollars, is enormously profitable, and yet has struggled to implement its own digital currency.
The technical details of Facebook’s plans are still emerging, but it seems that the company is not seeking to compete with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. Rather, Facebook is looking to replace the existing global financial system with an all-new setup, with Libra at its center.
The company may be counting on increased public interest in cryptocurrencies and financial technologies, and its market strength, to overcome objections. However, I don’t believe Facebook should be allowed to wreck the global financial system like it has, as many see it, wrecked global communications.
Speeding global exchange

There is definitely a need for smoother, faster and cheaper ways to send money around the world, and to provide access to financial services to the many people who do not have formal bank accounts. There is real potential to Libra, but there are likely to be ways to improve even more, developing a payment system that better serves the world as a whole.
At least at the moment, the Libra is being designed as a form of electronic moneylinked to many national currencies. That has raised fears that Libra might someday be recognized as a sovereign currency, with Facebook acting as a “shadow bank” that could compete with the central banks of countries around the world.
It doesn’t help that Facebook is already positioning itself to evade regulatory scrutiny by creating a corporate subsidiary that will join an ostensibly independent governing body for the Libra.
To protect consumers, regulators should look carefully at whether the new system supporting the Libra is sound. It may be that an entirely new set of financial rules and regulations is needed to shield the existing financial system from harm if the Libra becomes more popular than national currencies. At the very least, governments need to proceed slowly and carefully when new products may introduce systemic risks into our environment. Even the CEO of Google has acknowledged that. In my opinion, Libra’s planned launch in 2020 does not allow enough time to fully vet this technology and its risks.

Protecting the global financial system

Financial regulations have developed over time to encourage trust between unknown parties, and to protect regular customers from fraudsters and corporate greed. There are also rules that help governments prevent and detect transactions that support crime and terrorism.
This is not to say that all payments and purchases should be tied to a known entity online or in real life. Cash and anonymity is also a civil right and is key to privacy and personal freedoms.
As new digital financial services, methods of electronic payment and currencies develop and become popular, they should not be allowed to undermine longstanding financial safety systems, even in the name of smoother, cheaper transactions.
My concern is not just about large-volume transactions. Facebook has shown how even small amounts of money can buy microtargeted ads with the power to influence public opinion and election outcomes in the U.S. and around the world.
Product design and risk assessment

Facebook has a long history of questionable business models and privacy practices. The public, and their representatives in government – including elected officials, financial regulators and central bank authorities – should carefully scrutinize all aspects of Facebook’s cryptocurrency plans.
This concern is especially urgent because Facebook also has a long history of launching products and services, like political ads and live-streaming video, without fully considering their potential to damage democracy and the global society at large.

Mark Zuckerberg didn’t think enough about how people could use Facebook for ill.
The company has demonstrated its inability to serve society beneficially – and it may not even be interested in trying. All the signals suggest that customers and regulators alike should carefully examine whether Facebook’s Libra is truly innovative or just a way to avoid restrictions on a potentially hazardous financial product.
Defending democracy

Facebook’s entrance into the financial industry is a threat to democracies and their citizens around the world, on the same scale as disinformation and information warfare, which also depend on social media for their effectiveness.
It may be hard for world leaders to understand that this is an emergency, as they cannot see the virtual powers aligning against them. But they must huddle quickly to ensure they have – and keep – the power to protect their people from technology companies’ greed.
It will be key to understand if Facebook’s future cryptocurrency will ultimately function more like anonymous cash, or more like a traceable credit card transaction. Facebook has the blockchain and encryption technology to create an anonymous digital cash-like system, or a private digital currency, which has not been created yet. Anonymity would heighten the risks of abuse such as money laundering, so it’s worth watching out for a cash-like Facebook cryptocurrency that mirrors the central banks’ cash system.
In addition, I cannot help but reflect on the name that Facebook chose for this, the Libra, which is a reference to the Roman measurement for a pound, once used to mint coins. In many ways the company that Mark Zuckerberg is building is beginning to look more like a Roman Empire, now with its own central bank and currency, than a corporation. The only problem is that this new nation-like platform is a controlled company and is run more like a dictatorship than a sovereign country with democratically elected leaders. Even now, the company may have as much power as some countries – and more than others.
In the wake of the not too distant global financial crisis, and the “fake news” and disinformation culture that is developing, people must slow down and fully evaluate disruptive technology of this magnitude. Society cannot withstand a launch of a cryptocurrency in Facebook’s infamous “move fast and break things” style.

HealthHow Soda Causes Early Puberty And Breast Cancer.. by igweakombi(op): 4:19pm On Oct 20, 2019
OK, so we are all highly aware that soda is not good for our health, and comes with a laundry list of dangers. However, the scary thing is,previously unknown dangers of soda are discovered seemingly all the time.

The latest of these dangers??
Researchers from Harvard University Medical School have released a new study which suggests that *pre-teen and adolescent girls who drink a lot of sugary soda may start their menstrual cycles earlier than girls who don't drink soda*

While this may not seem like that big of a deal, early menstruation has been linked to health problems, including an increased risk of breast cancer.

For each experiment, as well as eating and drinking soda as a habit,of just over 5,500 girls between the ages of 9 and 14.
The eating habits of the girls were assessed via questionnaires, and their age of first menstruation was noted.

Results showed that the girls who reported drinking over a serving and a half of soda sweetened with sugar per day had a 24 percent higher likelihood of starting their first menstrual cycle the following month.
On average, the girls that drank the most soda, started their periods 2.7 months before the girls that drank the least.

Interestingly, diet soda was not found to have this effect - don't even think about it,it's seriously NOT healthy! Fruit juices didn't have this effect either.

As far as breast cancer risk, previous research has estimated that for every year earlier that a girl matures, her breast cancer risk later on in her life increases by about five percent.

According to study leader,Karin Michel's,"our study adds to increasing concern about the widespread consumption of svgar-sweetend drinks among children and adolescents in the USA and everywhere.

The main concern is about childhood obesity, but our study suggests that age of first menstruation (menarche) occurred earlier, independently of body mass index, among girls with the highest consumption of drinks sweetened with added sugar "

Why are we allowing young girls' breast cancer risk to go up before they are even old enough to have breasts. Soda is ridiculously dangerous, this is not the first study to say so,and as parents, we have a say as to whether it is in the home or not.

If there's one menu item item to talk to your kids about giving up for good, it's definitely soda.
