Following discrepancy discovered in the story of an amputee sachet water hawker, Mary Daniels, 26, who recently received donations from Nigerians due to her situation, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the relevant ministry to hand over the matter to the state Police Command for further investigation.

Daniels’ viral story on social media had elicited global sympathy and concern from Nigerians.

When contacted for comments, the state Commissioner for information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, could not respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone at press time.

However, a government source who preferred anonymity, confirmed the development to Vanguard, saying that Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the directive on Wednesday after it was discovered that Daniels’ story was staged and untrue after all.


The cat was let out of the bag when it was discovered that the story must have been fabricated following strange calls that Daniels had continued receiving from a team who were instrumental to her fortune in Lagos.

Sequel to the discovery, it was gathered that the governor directed that a Kogi traditional leader in Lagos, a Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), Irede foundation, should further investigate the story and keep a tap on her movements.


Meanwhile, the Office of Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to Lagos State Governor had been directed by the governor to handle the case and follow it to the latter.

Subsequently, Daniels was handed over to the traditional leader and other agencies on Wednesday with about N25 million in her private account.

It was discovered that the stories earlier narrated by the amputee were conflicting coupled with strange calls coming from people suspected to be those that she worked for before her discovery.


The actions of the state government became necessary after investigations revealed that the amputee was not telling a true story about herself and the life she had been living before helps from the public and government intervention came to her way.

The development came to light when some of the people Daniels had a deal started calling repeatedly, demanding for their own share of the donations Daniels had received from the public or else they would expose her.


It was also discovered that Daniel claims that she was an orphan and that the parents died during an accident were untrue, while her situations in Oshodi were allegedly staged.

The source narrated that during interrogations, it was discovered that the amputee’s father was still alive contrary to Daniel’s initial claim that she lost both parents during an accident several years back.

Also after several hours of investigation into her story, the official added that it was discovered that the sachet water hawker’s mother truly died but was not through an auto crash as earlier narrated by Daniel after arriving Oshodi where she was discovered last month.

Suspected gunmen have killed a hotelier, identified as Kehinde Ibidunni, and his wife, Elizabeth, at their residence in Atan area in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government of Ogun State.

It was gathered that the gunmen broke into their residence at about 3.00 am on Tuesday.

The 63-year old man and his 54-year-old wife were reported to have been shot severally.

The hoodlums were said to have forced their way into their No 15 Tella Ojo Crescent, Atan-Ota, through the burglary proof and their act attracted a little girl residing with the couple.

She was said to have informed the hotelier about the activities of the hoodlums, and he was said to have come down to ask for their mission..

A 13-year-old schoolgirl was attacked by other children who beat her and ripped out her hair when she walked home from school in Liverpool in ugly footage uploaded on social media

A 13-year-old girl had her hair ripped out in a savage attack by a gang of children – while others filmed the brawl on their phones after school.

Olivia McKenna was walking home in Liverpool yesterday afternoon (April 19) when her mum says she was set upon by a mob of youngsters.

The brutal assault, which was recorded by excited bullies, was shared on social media and has been viewed thousands of times.

In the clip, Olivia tries to defend herself as up to three children punch and kick her, regularly yanking her hair during the ugly scenes on Allerton Road.

When the teenager, who attends Archbishop Blanch School, tries to protect herself, other girls enter the fray to violently pull her hair and maul her.

Victoria Brown, Olivia's mum, said her daughter loosely knew some of the girls – who are believed to attend a different school – from social media but said she had been attacked for no reason.

The beating has left Olivia missing hair near her forehead, where it was ripped out, bruises on her back where she was kicked, and a footprint on her head.

Victoria told the ECHO: "Olivia had got off the bus and was walking home with two friends when they attacked her in a gang.

"She tried her best to fight back, but someone else was always jumping in."

The 38-year-old added: "As her mum, I feel physically sick with what could have happened.

"I'd like police to press charges to ensure my child and other children's safety."

Merseyside Police said: "Yesterday (Monday 19 April) we received a report of an altercation between a group of youths in South Liverpool.

At around 4.10pm it was reported that a fight took place between a group of around 20 male and female youths on Allerton Road. It is understood a further altercation then took place in Calderstones Park.

Blame politicians, traditional rulers for mayhem in area
Barely one week after the traditional ruler of Ikuru town, in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Aaron Miller regained freedom from his abductors, a video has surfaced online with reasons why the royal father was kidnapped.

The video showed two masked armed men with Ak-47 rifles in a forest guarding the monarch while he was forced to read their list of demands.

The gunmen, in the note, disclosed that the monarch was kidnapped because the chiefs and elders of Andoni failed to make peace among the rival groups in the area.

The gunmen further demanded that the government should provide equal opportunities to all without bias or political affiliation.

Part of it read: “We condemn indiscriminate arrest of Andoni youths and unfortunate killings in the area. With the sense of urgency, the chiefs, politicians and elders should address these matters, otherwise, there will be killings of chiefs and politicians in Andoni.”

After King Miller read the demands, one of the hoodlums behind the camera warned that no one would be spared if they failed to make peace in the community.

He said: “If the politicians refuse to make peace, nobody would be spared. We will visit the chiefs, politicians and elders one by one, and whatever you see, you take.”

Responding, King Miller assured that peace would be pursued with vigour in Andoni as soon as he regains freedom.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Nnamdi Omoni, on March 28, 2021, confirmed the release of King Miller, whom he said was rescued in a forest in Abissa community in Akuku Toru Local Council of the state, where he was held captive for five weeks.

Yet to be identified gunmen on Saturday kidnapped the Olori-Ilu of Imope Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government, Kolawole Omotayo. He was reportedly kidnapped along Oke Eri-Imope road, while driving down from Ijebu-Ode, where he had gone to buy something. A close ally of the kidnapped community leader told newsmen that the abductors fired bullets to deflate two tyres of his car, a Forerunner registered as WJ9.

The bullets also pierced the engine, “giving the kidnappers an opportunity to pull him out of the car and drag him into the bush.” The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident. Oyeyemi, who said he could not give details of the kidnapping incident, said the police are on top of the situation. It was gathered that Chief Kolawole Omotayo is the President of Ijebu Igbo Club and a member of Ijebu-Ode Club.
