The Rivers State governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike has appointed ex-militant commander, Sobomabo Jackrich aka General Egberi Papa as the Caretaker Chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Area, one of the councils where the State Assembly election results were recently nullified by the tribunal. As part of his familiarization tour, General Egberi Papa on Monday, 9th November 2015, paid a courtesy visit to the member representing Asari-Toru Constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Tekenari G. Wellington. Addressing his supporters who were in his entourage, General Egberipapa urged Asari Toru youths to desist from activities that will pose security threats or lead to breakdown of law and order in the local government area.

Former head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida(retd) has said he quit partisan politics since he clocked 70 years in 2011. Babangida made this disclosure in a statement dismissing reports that he is a card-carrying member of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) following his appointment as Chairman of the proposed PDP National Conference slated for Thursday, 12 November 2015.


According to the statement he personally signed and titled 'PDP Rebranding Conference: Count me out', Babangida said: “I wish to make some clarifications concerning the invitation extended to me on the scheduled PDP rebranding conference slated for November 12, 2015, aimed at repositioning the party after its poor outing at the last elections. While I welcome the invitation to the event as a mark of respect as one of the founding fathers, I want to be excused on the grounds that I have long bid bye to partisan politics.


"Four years ago, at an elaborate event at the Transcorp Hilton Hotels Abuja, I announced my retirement from partisan politics after my failed attempt to contest for president and having attained the gracious age of 70, in a society where life expectancy stands at a ridiculous 47 years. In appreciating what Allah has done for me in life, seeing me through many challenges, stabilizing me during periods of tribulations, and safeguarding me through the thick and thin of political risks, I did state at that event that journalists would not push me around again.


“Attaining the age of 70 in 2011 was to me a great accomplishment for which I remain eternally grateful to Almighty Allah and my family who have shown tremendous support and encouragement throughout my political trajectory. Since 2011 till date, I have been playing my role as an elder statesman and “consultant-in-chief” to political office seekers and other like-minds who want my input in their aspirations.”

The next-in-rank to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Sulaimon Adegboyega Alao Omiyale( Balogun of Ibadanland) is dead. The 91-year-old Omiyale patriarch died on Saturday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. He has since been buried at the Ope Agbe Palace, Omiyale House, Oja’ba, Ibadan, on Sunday evening following a brief funeral rite conducted by the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakri Agbotomokekere.
