I have been following this trend for sometimes now and reading the numerous answers here, I am a web developer and most persons here keep advising beginners to learn PHP and I don't understand why - any programmer that is not updated enough should take out time to check out whats trending. PHP is not DEAD but PHP is dying and Javascript is taking over the web. You can do anything now with Javascript, at the sever u have NODE JS, ANGULAR and REACT at the client with MONOGODB as the Database, web programming has fully shifted to Javascript, even Matt Mullenweg whose product(wordpress) is built on PHP is advising web programmers to Learn JavaScript Deeply .

I wouldn't say php is dying, the language is growing stronger by the year expecially with it frameworks (which I'm yet to pickup) and it large community of developers.
Yeah, react, node.js, are the latest and fastest right now as we speak, so you wouldn't be wrong to advice someone to learn them. But hey, why pick up node.js, and react.js (real beasts to learn -- only for the strong and experienced) as a beginner huh

?
So my Bro, let the beginners start with the common stuffs like html, css, js (or a any of it framwork), php (super easy, or any of it framwork), sql. With these you're good to go. After which you can try out other server technologies. Gracias

You really have a long way to go, just keep calm and download the book "php and mysql Web development (4th/5th edition)" --- in it lies your answer.

As for the softwares:

I learn on Linux (Kali) which comes with php, mysql server, python amongst others...

For windows:
You can download xampp server(it comes with php and mysql).

Go online and download books on html,css, js (and jquery, you don't have to know everything therein at once), php (or any other server-side lang), and sql.
Html and css should be easier to grasp in no time with continuous practise.
js/jquery should be a piece of cake to you.Learn the basics (form val, text and objects manipulations), you can always come back to it after you're well grounded in server-side scripting
Php(server side scripting) is damn easy to grasp coupled with some sql for database manipulation(learn the basics of sql for mysql server -- preferably).
Then you can download books/videos on ajax technology.
being fairly sound in the above you can then go online and download free source codes for various projects in akin to your expertise (for example, shopping cart, discussion forum, blogging, email apps, e.t.c.)
Then you can pick up a framework for php -- just to make your life easier...

I love the feel like hell yeah.
Takes forever to load.
To many things going on(distractions).Maybe some texts need some preferential coloring.
And I thing it is susceptible to injection(might be wrong).
