ImperialCovfefe: The Global X MSCI Nigeria ETF is an INDEX fund. It only tries to mimic the MSCI All Nigeria Select 25/50 Index. Its portfolio rebalances are done from calculations aiming to sufficiently represent the base index at any point in time. It is not like a normal Hedge Fund that tries to maximise gains or minimise losses during market cycles.

dotcomnamename: Well, that is according to StanbicIBTC and about 3 different branches said the same after thorough investigation... Are you positive ARM deducted withholding tax from your accrued interest? If yes, you need to query them immediately. |
Investment › Re: Mutual Funds by ImperialCovfefe: 10:53pm On Apr 11, 2018 |
dotcomnamename: No, that is somehow not correct. If your mandate is for your interest to be reinvested in the fund, it does not attract withholding tax but if the income is paid to your bank, it attracts withholding tax as evident in the table below. There is no withholding tax for bonds (10-year tax waiver) and short term government securities. I was also credited my accrued interest by ARM, and there was no withholding tax deducted. Only a commission (for bank transfer) + VAT-on-commission fee of N52.50 was charged. |

Investment › Re: Mutual Funds by ImperialCovfefe: 10:12am On Mar 23, 2018 |
A snapshot of the spreadsheet is attached below.
Thoughts
– ARM does not compound until the interest realised is distributed at the end of a quarter (3 months). Stanbic compounds with the interest once a week, but only adds a small fraction of the realised interest for this purpose (circa 7%).
– There is a marked difference in actual interest accrued compared with the quoted effective yield. This is more pronounced for ARM.

rationalmind: You are right sir, there's a difference between the rate they quote and what is being paid.
From my calculation, it's a 0.00066 percent difference. Looks small and negligible especially if your fund size is as small as mine.
Those who have as much as 100m will "lose" 66k daily. Is that percentage difference per day or annualised? If per day, that results in a 0.24% difference between actual yield and quoted yield. Still smaller than both Stanbic and ARM, though. Thanks for sharing, bro. I think others should report their discrepancies too, so we can have a more equitable measure of comparison between the funds. |

Those who have as much as 100m will "lose" 66k daily. Mine is quite meaningful, upto about 1.31% for ARM and 0.63% for Stanbic. When my funds were little initially (<100k), there was not much difference. In fact, for Stanbic, I got higher yields than the effective quoted yield. However, as soon as I scaled up, the difference became pronounced. You can deposit like N1m and monitor for around a week. It would be beneficial to see if Axa is more transparent. |

Please, which bank can one purchase treasury bills (primary and secondary markets) without physically visiting a branch? This is with the assumption that you already have an account with the bank.
Thanks. |

Cc: Megacontrol Has your daily earned interest ever matched the effective quoted yield? I have been keeping a spreadsheet of daily interest for both Stanbic and ARM, and they both vary meaningfully from the effective yields quoted on their pages. I think the entire industry lacks transparency. |

RabbiDoracle: (1)Statement of cash flow tells you the cash inflows and outflows during a business year. Operational cashflow, investing cashflow and financing cashflow.
(2)FCFF tells you the cash position of the company at a point in time. It tells you the cash the company has/has not from a business activity.
(2) is got from (1).
(1) includes borrowing or repayment of loans.
(2) doesn't include borrowing or repayment of loans. It tells you what the true cash position of the company before you start paying off anything.
That is why (2) is calculated using
PAT (after you have deducted everything like staff salaries, paid suppliers, exceptional items sef, tax and added other incomes gotten during the course of the business)
D & A : Depreciation and Amortization. Any accounting provision made to cover for replacement of equipment, inventory etc
Changes in WC: the changes in the capital deployed for running the business
Capital expenditures: the purchases made to replace equipment.
Once this is highly negative, You see companies going to borrow from banks and it will appear under the "cashflow for financing activities" as could be seen in the cash flow statement. I know what they mean an how they are gotten. These are clearly indicated in the statement of cash flows presented by the company. But some of you guys still keep calculating rather than just extracting the required values from the cashflow statement. |

ernie4life: Mansard rates look good at 16.07% but the question we are yet to ask is if its net or gross, because if its gross and there charges is 1.5% that means the effective rate is 14.57% so can anybody confirm if its gross or net. All these yields displayed on FMAN are gross-of-fees. Do you have data about the expense ratios of the various MMFs? I think they all cluster around 1.5-2%. Hence, you can make a fair comparison from the gross rates. |

sabanageorge: So, I finally opened this and got my letter of welcome from them. I must say, it was super convenient. I did everything online without calling them and without visiting their branch.
The first thing I did was to obtain the application form for individual applicants here https://www.fbnquest.com/asset-management/investor-resource-center/download-forms
Filled the form and sent with bank statement (as proof of address), passport picture, international passport to their email address. Got a mail confirming they were working on it and some days later got a welcome email.
Planning now to start with some dollars and top up later. Let's see how this goes. Even though my trust in the Nigerian system is failing, I'll do some dollars with a Nigerian mutual funds for now. I'll have to consider moving more investments into stuffs like Bitcoin I'm the future. Hi George, How is the dollar fund going? Can you please update us regarding your experience so far? What is the yield? Thanks. |

If I buy TB in January at 12% for 365 days, and terminate in August when rates are 18%, will I lose part of my capital? Is it possible please?
feelamong investnow2017
acidosis freeman67 et al.
dotcomenamename tony56 ( my man) lol You buy a 364-tenor NTB with a face value of 1M naira at a 12% (annualized) discount. Hence you paid only 0.88*1E6 = 880,000. After 8 months (August) the prevailing market rate is 18% (annualized) for a 121-day tenor (Date to Maturity). This means the person buying a 1M naira NTB pays only the discounted value of (121/364)*(1-0.18)*1E6 = 940165 naira. Therefore, you as the seller get N940,165 for a security you purchased for only N880,000. Obviously, then, you stand to make a profit of 940165 - 880000 = N60,165. Simple, right? |
