HealthGMO Foods: FG May Shut Shoprite, Next Superstores by indomitablesq(op): 3:08pm On Oct 15, 2016
The Federal Government, through its National Biosafety Management Agency, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to retail store giants, Shoprite and Next Cash ‘N’ Carry to withdraw any product that contains Genetically Modified Organisms from their shelves or risk a total shutdown.
The warning was handed out to representatives of the two superstores at a briefing in Abuja on Friday.
The Director-General, NBMA, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, said the agency had received complaints from members of the public about the sale of GMO foods in the two stores.
He stated, “Recently, we carried out a survey of likely GMO products and we have been able to have some collections, some materials that we call GMO suspects. We call them GMO suspects because we have not been able to ascertain their status.
“Why we have invited the superstores basically is for them to understand that some of their products need to be properly ascertained before they are brought in, especially the imported ones that may contain genetically modified materials, so that they will not run afoul of the law.
“There is a law in place. We will not want any segment of the society out of ignorance to act in manners that will infringe on the law. The Biosafety Management Act empowers the NBMA to regulate the activities of modern biotechnology and the use of genetically modified organisms.”
According to him, the agency will not hesitate to shut down any of the stores found selling unregistered GMO products in the country.
Edegba called on representatives of the superstores to ensure that all GMO products on their shelves were duly registered by the agency by obtaining permits.
He said, “If they have any GMO food in their stores, they should withdraw them from their shelves within seven days. The NBMA will not hesitate to shut down those stores found selling GMO products. We will not want to see any GMO food in your stores. We urge you to comply with this Act.
“We have taken samples, which we are analysing. This information is not peculiar to only the superstores. We are not threatening anybody, we are just telling you the consequences of dealing in GMO products if found in these stores. Within the next seven days, we believe you will withdraw from your shelves all foods that are derived from genetically modified organisms.” for more story, click- http://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/10/gmo-foods-fg-may-shut-shoprite-next.html

PoliticsNigerians Lack Commitment To Righteousness - Osinbajo by indomitablesq(op): 2:42pm On Oct 15, 2016
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said on Friday in Abuja that although Nigeria had people who could pray, they lacked commitment to righteousness.
He made the remark at a Special Banquet to mark the 20th anniversary of Nigeria Prays, the pet project of former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon.
Osinbajo said that if the citizens truly believed in and walked in the ways of Jesus Christ whom they profess to adore and stood up for the truth, righteousness and justice, the country would clearly witness a turn-around.
According to him, there is the need to pray to God always but it is more important that Christians turn away from evil in order to make the country great.
“If we want to be a nation that can feed its people, we must turn from evil ways and work for righteousness.
“When our pulpits preach righteousness, our people will rise up and become salts of the earth; Christians will stand up and be honest if we preach righteousness in the pulpit,’’ he said.
Osinbajo said that preachers had failed to tell the people that it was wrong to take bribe or accept money from government official, adding that nations that followed the principles of scripture had emerged great.
He said prayer and fasting were good, but that they were not enough to lift the country except the citizens turned away from evil.
“The principles of hard work, integrity and innovation are things that made other countries great and they are all in the gospel and if we follow the principles, we can be great,’’ he stressed.
The vice president extolled the virtues of honesty, integrity and hard work of Gowon and urged Nigerians, especially leaders to emulate him.
Earlier, Gowon said that the group had spent the past 20 years praying for the sincere intercessions for the healing of the country.
He said that passage of time had not diluted the vision of Nigeria Prays group.
“It has been an eventful journey to prepare a highway for God in our nation.
“By His grace, we have succeeded in laying a solid spiritual foundation for national reflections and intercessions.
“Through prayers, rallies, seminars, Nigeria Prays has created an opportunity for Nigerians and friends of Nigeria, irrespective of denominational affiliation and religious background,’’ he said.
According to the former head of state, we have to continue to promote the virtues of patriotism and transparency in the citizenry and good governance and incorruptibility in leadership.
He said that in spite of how much Nigerians had prayed to exit difficulties, a lot needed to be done and expressed optimism that the Holy Spirit would lead the way for the nation to be healed. for more, click here- https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8121272808117103554#editor/target=post;postID=6351190578261360395

PoliticsBuhari To EFCC: Return N10bn To NBC by indomitablesq(op): 1:49am On Oct 14, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the return of N10bn seized from the National Broadcasting Commission by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The Director-General of NBC, Mallam Is’haq Kawu, said this in Abuja on Thursday at a press conference to announce the 20th edition of Africa Broadcasting Conference and Exhibition coming up in Abuja next week.

The money is part of the funds realised by the NBC from the controversial sale of frequency to MTN Nigeria Communications Limited.

The funds had been a subject of probe by the EFCC following allegation that the broadcast regulatory agency failed to remit it to the Treasury Single Account at the time prescribed by the Federal Government.

The NBC had claimed that the funds were meant for projects being executed for the country’s migration to digital broadcasting.

Kawu said the funds would be channelled towards projects and programmes aimed at achieving the transition to digital broadcasting for which a deadline of June 2017 had been set.

He added that the NBC was planning to establish a content development for the broadcast industry as the era of digitisation was expected to create immense need for content development as a result of multiple channels to be witnessed in the new era.

The NBC boss said, “We are going to assist a lot of young people to get finances for the production of their contents. We are thinking in terms of content development fund within the NBC and the NBC also provides opportunity for young content providers.”

According to Kawu, a 10 per cent increase in the digitisation of the broadcast industry is predicted to create one million new jobs.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has given assurance that the digital switchover from analogue television would be achieved in the Federal Capital Territory before the end of the year.

Mohammed gave the assurance after a guided facility tour of Pinnacle Communication Limited – the licensed signal distributor of the DSO in the FCT and Trefonics, a manufacturer of Set-Top-Boxes.

He said it was imperative to ascertain the level of preparation of all the stakeholders in order to ensure a successful roll-out in Abuja.

The minister said, “We are very much on track but I think it’s important to understand what the Digital Switch Over entails. It entails that all the component actors be ready.”

He expressed satisfaction with the signal distributor as well as the Set-Top-Box manufacturer, adding that they were on track to meeting the switch over date.

LiteratureBeyoncé Did Not Make Me Popular – Chimamanda Adichie by indomitablesq(op): 2:33am On Oct 11, 2016
Award-winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has expressed disappointment over news making the rounds that American singer, Beyoncé Knowles, made her popular.
One of Beyoncé’s single ‘Flawless’, purportedly sampled a speech and book-length essay: ‘We Should All Be Feminists’, by Adichie and the news trended on the social media that the book aimed at giving a definition of feminism for the 21st century, achieved little or nothing until the singer emphasized it in her song.
But the writer said she was shocked at how many requests for an interview she received when that song was released, with the claim that the song threw her further into limelight.n an interview with Dutch newspaper: de Volkskrant, Adichie said, “I think Beyoncé is lovely and I am convinced that she has nothing but the best intentions.
“In addition, Beyoncé is a celebrity of the first order and with this song she has reached many people who would otherwise probably never have heard the word feminism, let alone gone out and buy my essay, but I was shocked about how many requests for an interview I received when that song was released.
“Literally every major newspaper in the world wanted to speak with me about Beyoncé and how she gave me fame. I felt such resentment. I thought: are books really that unimportant to you?
“Another thing I hated was that I read everywhere: now people finally know her, thanks to Beyoncé, or: she must be very grateful. I found that disappointing.
“I thought: I am a writer, self made, and I have been for some time and I refuse to perform in this charade that is now apparently expected of me: ‘Thanks to Beyoncé, my life will never be the same again.’
“That’s why I didn’t speak about it much.
“Still, her type of feminism is not mine. As it is the kind that, at the same time, gives quite a lot of space to the necessity of men.
“I think men are lovely, but I don’t think that women should relate everything they do to men: did he hurt me, do I forgive him, did he put a ring on my finger? We women are so conditioned to relate everything to men.
“Put a group of women together and the conversation will eventually be about men. Put a group of men together and they will not talk about women at all, they will just talk about their own stuff.
“We women should spend about 20% of our time on men, because it’s fun, but otherwise we should also be talking about our own stuff,” she added. click here for more info- http://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/10/beyonce-did-not-make-me-popular.html

PoliticsRecession Has Been Over-dramatised - Okorocha by indomitablesq(op): 2:24am On Oct 11, 2016
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Monday declared that Nigerians are over dramatizing the current economic recession.
He spoke when he hosted to team of officers from the National Defence College, NDC, at the Government House, Owerri.
“I think what we call recession has been over dramatised. I say so because agriculture had remained the nation’s main pivot upon which all the sectors of our economy revolve”, Okorocha said.
“Because this vital sector has been neglected, it has given rise to poverty today, including the rise in the dollar and the fall of the Naira.
“Most times in Nigeria, we treat the symptoms rather than the disease.
“Let us discuss more about the disease, which is the total neglect of the agricultural sector of the nation’s economy by our past leaders”, he added.
The Governor recalled that before the advent of oil, agriculture provided over 70 percent of employment and resources of the nation, as well as over 75 percent of Nigeria’s foreign reserves. At that time, we were a rich nation. Oil made us lazy. This led us into this recession. Imo State is keying into the revitalization of the agric sector. for more story, log on to- http://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/10/recession-has-been-over-dramatised.html

EducationPay Teachers More Campaign By Unilorin Pro. by indomitablesq(op): 3:07am On Oct 10, 2016
“Every foundation must be sustained. if not, things will fall apart”
We all were students if not still students as we all know that learning is a continuous process . It saddens to see how those who have actually brought us this far lives below average.
Some of them,I mean the owners of our intellect(TEACHERS) die unappreciated with what they know . If only we could be responsible enough, not just us the students but the government too and pay more attention to this group of endowed beings and set a pedestal to make them live up to the standard they ought to . Ignition won’t remain the word but the best.
“WORLD LEADERS ARE READERS” ,Then a reader becomes a leader through what he had learnt from a book written by someone who was taught by a teacher. Books are encrypted codes of life. Teachers are our parents of letters and moral .
This is a clarion call to all and sundry. Teachers are to be celebrated not only by the stipends they receive as salary nor gratuity they die on queue for .
We all know them, they are part of the society. Every teacher is a professional, they could be what you’re but they’ve chosen to serve humanity and help you grow.
I wonder who we call doctors, Engineers, Bankers, Accountants, Senators, Presidents, Governors, Honourables and etc if not for the great job they, the teachers have done.
This is not an appeal but a wake-up call. PAY A TEACHER TODAY AND IGNITE THE WORLD OF KNOWLEDGE. Love them embrace them, appreciate them.

SportsFifa’s Gianni Infantino Saddened By Allegations Of Corruption by indomitablesq(op): 1:54am On Oct 09, 2016
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has expressed shock and sadness at the series of allegations regarding corruption in English football that were made in The Daily Telegraph last week.
The national newspaper published a series of revelations, one of which led to England manager Sam Allardyce’s exit after he was filmed suggesting third-party ownership rules could be circumvented.
Speaking at the refurbished Windsor Park in Belfast, where he is a guest of honour for Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with San Marino, Infantino spoke of his concern that even more stories could emerge.
“First of all I was very surprised,” he told Press Association Sport. “Then I felt very sad because when stories like this come out with regard to corruption, money flows and so on, it’s not good for football, definitely.
“When you hear that this is only the tip of the iceberg and there is maybe more to come then this is maybe more worrying. Now before taking any final judgement, we have to wait for the investigation by the FA and then we will see how to move on.”
A FIFA spokesperson had said earlier this week that their transfer system on third-party ownership, which prevents an investor or groups of investors owning a share in a player’s commercial rights, had become “more difficult to be abused.”
The practice was banned in England eight years ago, with FIFA following suit last year, yet in footage released by The Telegraph, Allardyce claimed there were ways around the regulations.
And Infantino conceded that he was worried some in the game may still be trying to bend the rules.
“It looks as if it is still an issue,” he added. “It’s something that we need to look at. We’ve always been saying that third-party ownership is an issue in the sense that it influences the game and we cannot allow the game to be influenced by economic interests of third parties. We need to look into that and try to get it out.”
Infantino was in Northern Ireland, along with a sell-out 18,600 crowd, for the first international to be staged at Windsor Park since its development was complete.
The fixture came a year to the day since Michael O’Neill’s side clinched qualification for Euro 2016, their first major tournament in 30 years. click here for more- http://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/10/fifas-gianni-infantino-saddened-by.html

Foreign AffairsI Will Never Opt Out Of The Race- Donald Trump Vows by indomitablesq(op): 1:27am On Oct 09, 2016
With his campaign in crisis, U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump vowed on Saturday to stay in the race despite calls from more than two dozen prominent Republicans for him to drop out following the release of a recording of him making lewd comments about women.
Both Trump's wife and his running mate criticized his words, saying they were insulting and indefensible.
"The media and establishment want me out of the race so badly - I WILL NEVER DROP OUT OF THE RACE, WILL NEVER LET MY SUPPORTERS DOWN!" Trump wrote on Saturday afternoon on the social media website Twitter.
The video was the latest calamity for Trump, who had hoped to revive his flagging campaign in the face of a recent drop in polls with less than a month until Election Day.
Trump is due to appear alongside Democrat Hillary Clinton on Sunday in their second debate in the runup to the general election. Clinton is not expected to address Trump's video before then.
The 2005 video of Trump talking on an open microphone showed the then-reality TV star speaking about groping women and trying to seduce a married woman. The video was taped only months after Trump married his third wife, Melania.
In a statement, Melania Trump called her husband's words "unacceptable and offensive to me."
"This does not represent the man that I know," she said. "He has the heart and mind of a leader. I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world."

PoliticsBenue Lawmakers Refund N750m Car Loan To EFCC by indomitablesq(op): 3:47am On Aug 16, 2016
The 22 members of the Benue State House of Assembly who collected money to purchase Prado Sports Utility Vehicles have started refunding the money to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
This was revealed on Monday by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Benjamin Adanyi.
It would be recalled that some members of the Assembly were recently invited and grilled by the EFCC in Abuja over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the purchase of vehicles for members of the House.
Adanyi, in a chat with reporters in Makurdi, stated that the issue that led to their invitation by the EFCC was not an issue of corruption but procedure, stressing that the amount meant for the purchase of the vehicles for the 30 members in the House was N375m and not N750m as published in the media.
He said, “The issue that involved the EFCC was the issue of procedure. Somebody had petitioned the supplier about certain transactions that were being conducted, it was when investigations were going on that the EFCC discovered that certain monies were given to 22 members.
“The EFCC advised us to refund the money, thus I can categorically inform you that we have agreed to refund the money and we have started paying so that the money will be retired to the state government and it will be added to the initial sum and process the vehicles for members.”
He said the contract was awarded to a corporate entity and not the leadership of the House, stressing that there was no correlation between the N750m bandied in the media and the record at the Ministry of Finance.
Adayi further stated that the decision by the members to collect the money to buy the vehicle of their choice was because they felt the contract could not be executed since the contract sum per vehicle was N12.5m against the market value of N14.5m.
Adanyi said, “Members did not want an upward review as that would take a longer time, more so considering the prevailing economic crisis, they chose to opt for smaller vehicles.”
The Majority Leader however said the refund option by the EFCC would favour the members as the state government would have no option but to source additional N7m each to purchase the vehicles for them.

PoliticsFG To Reinstate Sacked 2,000 NIS Applicants by indomitablesq(op): 3:27am On Aug 16, 2016
The Federal Government has approved the review of the case of 2,000 applicants who were dismissed during recruitment training into the Nigeria Immigration Service in February, 2015.
The applicants had on many occasions staged protests over their dismissal at the Ministry of Interior in Abuja, prompting the government to hold several meetings with the aggrieved youths during which they were informed that the FG would review their case.
Following an emergency meeting of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, and Prisons Services Board on August 11, 2016, the board issued a guideline for the screening of the applicants, according to a statement on Monday in Abuja by the NIS spokesman, Ekpedeme King.
It said that the guidelines include security clearance, drug test, certificate verification and implementation of CDFIPB policy on “Age on Rank.”

BusinessBREAKING: $1 Is Now ₦400 by indomitablesq(op): 9:42am On Aug 05, 2016
The naira plunged to ₦400 against the dollar at the parallel market on Thursday as shortage of foreign exchange continued to have negative effects on economic activities in the country.
The local currency had closed at ₦390 against the greenback on Wednesday.
The shortage of forex at the inthttp://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/08/breaking-1-is-now-400.html?m=0erbank and the black market has continued to weigh on the value of the naira.
After closing at around ₦378 against the dollar for most part of last week, the naira dropped to ₦380 on Friday before falling to ₦382 on Monday.
The currency closed at ₦315.06 to the United States dollar at the interbank market on Thursday.
Economic and financial analysts have linked the wide depreciation in the value of the naira against the dollar at the parallel market to huge demand for forex by holidaymakers seeking to travel abroad.
However, some experts said the huge demand for forex at the parallel market was beyond the normal summer rush.
They linked the development to the activities of speculators and significant demand by manufacturers and importers whose demand was not being met at the interbank market.
Currency analyst at Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Ezun, said, “The issue still has to do with inadequate forex supply. As far as you continue to have some 41 items banned from the interbank market, importers and manufacturers of those items will continue to seek for forex at the parallel market.
“This is part of the reason you are having pressure at the parallel market.”
According to Ezun, the global plunge in oil prices has affected the capacity of the Central Bank of Nigeria to defend the naira.
“If the price of oil should go up, more forex will come in and you will see that things will change,” he added.
A Professor of Economics at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Sherrifdeen Tella, said the huge demand for dollars could be due to the activities of genuine manufacturers and importers seeking forex for production and business purposes, or corrupt people who had stolen state funds.

PoliticsShocking Revelation On How N284 Billion Was Smuggled Into Budget-jibrin, Reveals by indomitablesq(op): 1:57pm On Jul 25, 2016
The sacked chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has made a shocking revelation on how N284 billion constituency projects was allegedly smuggled into the 2016 budget.
He alleged that 10 standing committees inserted the projects into the budget without the knowledge of their members.
Jibrin, who had claimed that he was removed from his position because he blocked some shady moves of some lawmakers, regarding the budget.
He accused the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, of secretly persuading him to insert N20 billion into the budget through Service Wide Vote.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, July 24, Jibrin alleged that the Speaker has been hijack by some cabals.
“I am compelled again for the purpose of emphasis to state categorically that my allegations are against the quartet of speaker, Yakubu Dogara; deputy speaker, Yusuf Lasun; House Whip, Alhassan Doguwa, and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, not the Honourable House as an institution nor other members of the body of principal officers," he said.
“I have to state this very clearly because this quartet has resorted to desperate moves to drag the entire House of Representatives into the case of gross abuse of office I have leveled against them as individual presiding and principal officers of the House. This is a mischievous move to set me on collision with the entire house.
“They have also recruited four from the very few members of their cabal to use some elements of the Nigeria police to kidnap, harass, blackmail and intimidate me into silence. Until yesterday, the police were laying siege to my house, blocking the entrance and exit, shouting that they wanted budget documents.
“When ever I am released, an irreparable damage would have been done to my person that will stick for life.
“As God Almighty will have it, I had traveled out of town before they could execute their evil plan. God is always with the innocent. The members in the tick of this plot are Jagaba Adams, Jika both chairmen interior and police affairs respectively, Muhammed Bago, Muhammed Zakari and the last one I need not introduce him to Nigerians.
“During the budget period, when they discovered that I was not the kind of person they could use to perpetrate their illegality, Mr Speaker and the three other principal officers took away the entire Appropriation Committee secretariat to a secret location where all sort of insertions were made into the budget."
He continued: “The blackmail has always been, Abdul people will laugh at you if anything goes wrong between you and Dogara because of the lead role you played and the many toes you stepped on to get him elected. It’s been a painful experience.
“Again the secretariat was taken away from me on Speaker Dogara’s instruction for the second time to a location I didn’t know and all sort of insertions into the budget were made and returned to me for signature.
“I said over my dead body! It was a massive crisis behind the scene until the early morning of the Friday that Mr President assented the budget. It was Sen Danjuma Goje that brokered a compromise that since the deputy speaker led the harmonization committee, he should also sign such that the harmonization committee will share responsibility with us.
“Senator Goje pleaded with me so hard all night and later shouted heavily at me reminding me that he was not talking to me as a senator but as a father. I cried heavily all night.
“When the budget harmonization committee, headed by Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun, gave out 80% concession across board to the executive demands during the harmonization negotiation, it was agreed that the remaining 20% should go to the entire NASS. The deputy speaker excused himself that he wanted to go and consult with Mr speaker.
“He came back after few hours and in an unprecedented display of greed, presented to me a hand written note distributing the remaining 20% to only principal officers. 70% of the 20% was reserved for Mr Speaker and himself, while the remaining 30% of the 20% went to other principal officers. I am sure he will recognize the hand writing when he sees it.”
Jubrin said further said: "My colleagues didn’t know all of these.
“Mr Speaker also directed me to create what I advised him will be a controversial line item under service wide vote to introduce about N20 billion projects using the name of NASS. He directed me to see a highly placed PDP politician which I did and collected the documents. I advised him repeatedly against it but he kept pressuring me until I bluntly told him I will not!
“When the Appropriation committee received all the budget reports from standing committees, an analysis was conducted. We discovered that about 10 of the 96 standing committees of the House introduced about 2,000 (two thousand) projects without the knowledge of their committee members, amounting to about N284 billion.’
“I was alarmed. But I was cautious because at our pre budget meeting with the committee chairmen, I was clearly warned not to touch their budgets. I reported the matter to the speaker. He did nothing about it obviously because he was working behind the scene with the committee chairmen. That was the beginning of the whole budget problem from the side of House and the whole exercise had to go through several versions before it was passed.
“So, is it Abdul that introduced 2000 projects into budget worth 284 billion? But I quietly bore the pain and abuses from all over the country and continue to defend the committee inputs as a show of loyalty to the institution I represent which I so much love and still have many great minds in there. Apart from Chairman Agriculture Hon Mongunu who owned up and explained his inputs at the only executive session I was allowed to attend, the other few chairmen who loaded the budget kept quiet and watched me bashed from every angle by angry Nigerians. PoliticsPlateau Shooting: Death Toll Rises To 4, Curfew Imposed by indomitablesq(op): 6:22pm On Jul 21, 2016
Three more people have died after soldiers opened fire on rampaging youth in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
One person had earlier been confirmed dead. Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES that three of seven people who were injured in the attack, died, bringing the death toll to four.
Soldiers serving with the Special Task Force on Jos crisis on Thursday opened fire on youth who blocked a road in Bokkos in protest of the killing of a monarch and a night attack there Wednesday.
Residents said there is tension in Bokkos town, as many have fled the area to seek refuge elsewhere. The weekly Thursday market in the town could not open due to the crisis.
The military special task force imposed a 24-hour curfew on the town.
A spokesperson for the STF, Ikedichi Iweha, denied that soldiers killed the youth. He however confirmed the death of three of the youth who barricaded the routes.
Mr. Iweha, a captain in the Nigeria Army, told PREMIUM TIMES via phone that the youth were about to lynch some persons they suspected of being responsible for the killings, when soldiers intervened.
He said the youth shot at soldiers, injuring some of them.
“Our troops didn’t open fire aiming at anyone, they shot in the air to arrest an ugly situation. They youth were about to lynch some persons, our troops intervened; and the rampaging youth opened fire on our men and injured personnel. Three of the protesting youth were found dead, but not as a result of gun shot from our troop,” he said.
Mr. Iweha however said the situation had been brought under control, as officers have taken over Bokkos town.
Plateau State had enjoyed relative calm in recent months after years of ethno-religious conflict that claimed the lives of thousands.
The latest spell of violence began on Monday afternoon when unknown gunmen ambushed and killed Lazarus Agaei, a first class traditional ruler and the Saf Ron Kurele, alongside his wife, son and a police guard.
On Wednesday night, unknown assailants reportedly destroyed homes and attacked residents of the area.
In protest, youth barricaded roads leading to the area on Thursday morning, and blocked the convoy of the police commissioner of Plateau State, Adekunle Oladunjoye. Mr. Oladunjoye was later allowed in.
Lawmakers, traditional and political leaders from the area gathered Thursday morning at the late monarch’s palace to meet the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations, Habila Joshak, and mourn the slain chief. PoliticsNigeria Loses N127bn To Cyber-crime Yearly, Says Communication Minister by indomitablesq(op): 7:36am On Jul 20, 2016
The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, says Nigeria is losing about N127billion which is 0.8 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Products (GDP), to cybercrime yearly.
Shittu said this in Abuja on Tuesday at the opening of the 26th National Conference and Exhibition of the Nigeria Computer Society.
According to him, ``our growing dependence on digital infrastructure introduces and poses grave threats to national security.’’
He said many Nigerians now had access to internet facilities; using the enormous opportunities this digital infrastructure had brought to work, transact business, campaign, communicate, learn, interact and relax.
``To address emerging cyber threats, government has set up computer emergency response teams through the Office of the National Security Adviser and NITDA.
``Additionally, to further improve the nation’s preparedness to secure cyberspace, the Cybercrime Advisory Council has also been inaugurated.
``The council is expected to facilitate the implementation of the Cybercrime Act, 2015, as well as the National Cyber Security Policy and Strategy.
The minister said that the Ministry of Communications was engaging the Nigerian Army on possible technology collaboration to tackle the activities of insurgents and other security challenges in the country.
Shittu said that it was appropriate that the efforts of the armed forces and the significant achievements in the fight against Boko Haram were recognised.
He said that though the army was already using some technology platforms, there may be some requiring close attention by the conference.
``Beyond military might, financial crimes and corruption are added burdens to the national security challenges that threaten the very existence and development of the nation’’, he said.
Shittu said growth was impossible without safety and security.
He said that; “Information Technology for National Safety and Security” which is the theme of the conference, was relevant.
``This is because it aligns with the national safety and security priority of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
``Securing lives and properties are enablers and imperative for growth and development.’’
Mr Babachir Lawal, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said Information Technology for national safety and security was germane to the commitment of the present administration.
Represented by Bamgbose Olukunle, Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs Office of the SGF, Babachir said ICT was also relevant in tackling the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
Lawal said government would leverage on IT to enhance national safety and security, adding that the greatest challenge of any nation was insecurity. For complete story, click - http://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/07/nigeria-loses-n127bn-to-cyber-crime.html

PoliticsWomen Protest In Ondo Over Dino Melaye’s Attack On Remi Tinubu by indomitablesq(op): 9:50pm On Jul 18, 2016
A women group, Ondo Women for Women, on Monday marched through the streets of Akure, the Ondo State capital, in protest of what it described as assault on Oluremi Tinubu, a Lagos senator, by her colleague in the Senate, Dino Melaye.
The group, which is an arm of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, said the attack on Mrs. Tinubu by Mr. Melaye during an executive session of the Senate was an attack on Nigerian women.
They went around the streets chanting solidarity songs and brandishing banners with inscriptions against Mr. Melaye.
Briefing journalists after the March, the leader of the group, Olaseinde Vincente, said Mr Melaye had records of assaults and physical attacks on women who either were in romantic relationships with him or in working relationship with him.
“He threatened to beat up Senator Remi Tinubu at the Senate Executive Session and boasting that nothing would happen after carrying out such action,” she said.
“We not only find this action of Melaye appalling, this shameful behaviour of the Senator from Kogi west shocked us the entire Nigerian women.
“We APC Women, Ondo State Wing, are horrified at seeing that a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria could stoop so low as threatening to beat up a fellow Senator, and a woman for that matter during a Senate Executive Session.”
Mrs. Vincent said if Mr. Dino Melaye wanted to flex his muscles, he was free to do so but not by bullying a fellow senator at the senate hallowed chambers.
“Melaye’s excesses and uncontrolled anger towards women should be nibbed in the bud before it gets out of hand,” she warned.
“How would anyone imagine any reasonable man could intimidate a woman who spoke in candour at a Senate Executive Session and whose comment at the meeting was laced with utmost decorum.
“But Dino Melaye did, he sprang up from his seat and charged towards Senator Oluremi Tinubu and threatened to physically assault her.”
She said the women group would not allow Melaye’s assault on women go unpunished.
“It is on this note that we condemn in its entirety the barbaric behaviour of Mr. Dino Melaye, a Senator who misrepresented the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly at the Executive Session meeting of the National Assembly on Tuesday, 12th of July, 2016,” Mrs. Vincent noted.
“It is unparliamentary for anyone in the Legislative Assembly to exhibit aggression-verbal or physical assault, not to talk of expressing derogatory sexual harassment against a fellow female member.”
Mr. Melaye had admitted insulting Mrs. Tinubu after she called him a dog and a thug.
He also vowed not to apologize for his actions, saying his political future could not be determined by the APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, who is Remi’s husband.

PoliticsCourt Is Overworked, Judges Deserve Rest, Says Saraki's Lawyer by indomitablesq(op): 9:32pm On Jul 18, 2016
The Court of Appeal on Monday in Abuja adjourned until October 6 to hear an appeal filed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, challenging his criminal trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Justice Abdul Aboki, leading four other Justices of the Court, gave the date at the instance of counsel to the parties.
Kanu Agabi (SAN) and Rotimi Jacob (SAN) are representing Mr. Saraki and the Federal Government respectively.
At the resume hearing, Mr. Agabi urged the court to adjourn the matter on account of the convenience of the presiding justices.
“My Lordships, it is glaring that the court is overworked and this is telling on the postures of your Lordships,” he said.
“If we say we should press on because of the exigency of this appeal we could all be dead.
“We shall at this juncture be urging your Lordships to adjourn hearing on this appeal after you have returned from the annual break.”
Meanwhile, the presiding judge interjected to assure parties of the court’s readiness to entertain the appeal.
“We appreciate the concerns advanced by the Senior Advocate Agabi, but we shall not be adjourning on account of our convenience as we are here to serve,’’
Mr. Jacobs, counsel to the federal government, opposed the motion for adjournment, adding that the applicant should be eager for the appeal to be heard.
He said, “My Lordships, I am also concern about the effort you people are putting to ensure speedy dispensation of appeals. And this no doubt is telling on your health.
“More so that the court has come to the threshold of this year’s annual recess, it is appropriate to take your deserved rest but not when a matter is ripe for hearing.
“Hearing of this appeal has been adjourned three times at the instance of the appellant applicant.”
Mr. Jacobs further said, “Why have they suddenly developed cold feet towards the application?
“Be that as it may, My Lordships, I shall be guided by the body language of the court to hold that My Lordships’ discretion should prevail in the circumstance,’’ Mr. Jacobs said.
Mr. Saraki is challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT to try him on charges of false and anticipatory assets declaration.
The senate president had approached the appellate court challenging the March 24 ruling of the Danladi Umar-led Code of Conduct Tribunal dismissing his application challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal.
He further said that the Code of Conduct Bureau did not give him the opportunity to react to the alleged discrepancies in his asset declaration form before his prosecution.
It would be recalled that Mr. Saraki’s earlier appeal aimed at ending his trial was dismissed by the Supreme Court in its judgment delivered on February 5.
The Supreme Court had in that decision ordered the senate president to submit himself for trial at the CCT.

PoliticsLet Peace Reign In PDP - Buruji Kashamu Urges Ali Modu Sheriff by indomitablesq(op): 8:56pm On Jul 18, 2016
Sen. Buruji Kashamu (PDP-Ogun East) on Monday advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disputed Chairman, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, to allow the rift rocking the party to be resolved.
Kashamu said this in a statement he signed and released to newsmen in Abuja.
Kashamu said: ``Therefore, I can only plead with our great leader, Sen. Sheriff, who has been hurt, to soft-pedal and let go, in the interest of the party and our teeming members.
``He has shown that he is a principled man and a courageous person.
``Since he and Sen. Makarfi have said they are not interested in contesting for the office of National Chairman of the party at the National Convention, he should encourage all his people to participate in the process leading to the rescheduled National Convention.’’
He said it had become necessary to make certain clarifications because no-one was being dumped, disputes and disagreements were part and parcel of any dynamic organization and as true party men and women there must be room for resolution of the disputes and disagreements.
The party stalwart added that: ``In effect, the two great leaders showed that they have the interest of the party at heart.
``One thing I took away from the many reconciliation meetings and diplomatic shuttles is the fact that the PDP is blessed with many good leaders among who are Sen. Ahmed Makarfi and Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff.
``Finally, I wish to enjoin all my leaders, elders, associates and supporters in the South West to join hands with all our states, zonal and national leaders to move our party forward.
``Let’s sheathe our sword; put an end to recriminations and infighting. Let’s move on in one accord as a people united under the Almighty Allah,’’ he urged. To complete story, click - http://indomitablesq..com.ng/2016/07/let-peace-reign-in-pdp-buruji-kashamu.html
