EducationATBU Sacks Lecturer Over Sexual Harassment Of Married PG Student by Infoguy666(op): 6:30pm On Apr 24, 2025
The Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, has dismissed a senior lecturer, Dr Usman Aliyu, over allegations of sexual harassment involving a married postgraduate student, Mrs Kamila Aliyu, News360 Nigeria reports.

The decision was announced in the university’s official newsletter, ATBU Herald (Vol. 39 No. 5, April 22), following the 96th regular council meeting held on 11 April 2025.

According to the publication obtained by our correspondent on Thirsday, the Governing Council approved Dr Aliyu’s dismissal based on the findings of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, which concluded that the lecturer was guilty of misconduct.

The dismissal letter stated: “Following the report of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee that found you guilty of an indecent relationship involving a student of the university, Mrs Kamila Rufai Aliyu of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the council has subsequently approved your dismissal from the services of the university with immediate effect.”

Mrs Aliyu had, last year, petitioned the university, accusing Dr Aliyu of sexual harassment and alleging that he threatened her academic progress if she did not comply with his demands.

In response to the allegations, Dr Aliyu filed a defamation lawsuit against the student, the department, and the university.

Despite the lawsuit, the university proceeded with internal investigations.
The council’s action was based on “Chapter 3, Item F, I (o) of the Senior Staff Conditions of Service of the University,” as noted in a statement released by the Senior Deputy Registrar, Senior Staff Establishment, Alhaji Abdullahi Suleiman.

The dismissal letter also instructed the lecturer to return all university property:

“You are hereby directed to hand over all the property of the university in your possession to the Head of Department and your identification card to the Chief Security Officer of the university,” the directive stated.

CrimeAlleged $1 Billion Scam: Court Orders Arrest, Remand Of 6 CBEX Promoters by Infoguy666(op): 4:11pm On Apr 24, 2025
The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the go-ahead to arrest and detain six promoters of Crypto Bridge Exchange, CBEX, over alleged investment fraud to the tune of over one billion dollars, News360 Nigeria reports.

Justice Emeka Nwite, who gave the order after the EFCC’s lawyer, Fadila Yusuf, moved an ex-parte motion to the effect, said the detention would be pending the conclusion of investigation of the alleged offences and possible prosecution.

“I have listened to the submission of the learner counsel for the applicant, EFCC. I have also gone through the affidavit evidence with exhibits thereto along with the written address.

“I am of the view and I hold that the application is meritorious. Consequently, the application is granted as prayed,”
the judge said.

DAILY POST reports that the six suspects include Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, and Seyi Oloyede.

Others are Avwerosuo Otorudo and Chukwuebuka Ehirim as 1st to 6th defendants respectively.

In the motion dated and filed April 23 by Yusuf, the anti-graft agency sought two prayers, seeking an order of the honourable court for the issuance of warrant of arrest of the defendants.

It also prayed the court for “an order remanding the defendants in the custody of the complainant/applicant pending the conclusion of investigation of the alleged offences and possible prosecution.”

Giving four grounds, the lawyer said the EFCC has a statutory duty of prevention and detection of financial crimes through investigation.

She said there was an intel to the office of the commission’s chairman against the defendant bothering on various criminal offences.

According to her, the applicant has a constitutional duty to investigate these crimes and enforce law and order.

Yusuf said that “the defendants are at large and a warrant of arrest is required to arrest the defendants for proper investigation and prosecution of this case.”

In the affidavit in support of the motion, the EFCC said sometime in April, 2025, it received an intel bordering on an alleged investment scheme fraud against the defendants.

It alleged that the defendants and their company, ST Technologies International Limited, using another company, Crypto Bridge Exchange, CBEX, perpetrated the alleged fraud and the case was received and assigned to its Cybercrimes Section for investigation.

The anti-graft agency said that a warrant of arrest was required to place the defendants on red watch list so that they could be traced and arrested to answer to the case against them.

According to the commission, investigation into the allegation against the defendants revealed a prima facie case of investment scam.

It said it would be in the interest of justice to grant the application.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has issued a controversial directive ordering the arrest of individuals spotted with dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital, citing security concerns, News360 Nigeria reports.

The governor made the announcement during a security stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, which included traditional rulers and security agency representatives.

Bago expressed zero tolerance for what he described as “rascality” in the city.

In his words: “No tolerance for rascality in Minna. Anybody you find with dreadlocks, arrest him, shave his hair, and fine him.”

He further instructed security personnel to deal decisively with anyone caught carrying weapons, declaring such individuals should be treated as armed robbers.

Governor Bago also called on parents to take control of their children’s behavior, warning:

“Parents, warn your children, warn your wards. From this moment, it’s 100% fire for fire.”

As part of measures to curb rising insecurity, the governor imposed a strict 6pm to 6am curfew in Minna.

The restriction affects the movement of commercial motorcyclists and tricycle operators, with only those attending to serious medical emergencies exempted.

Bago emphasized the importance of securing the lives of residents, directing community leaders to keep records of visitors in their domains.

He also warned that any residence found harboring criminals or drug peddlers would face demolition.

The order follows a spike in violent attacks and youth-related unrest in the city, prompting swift government action to restore calm and order.

PoliticsTinubu Holds Private Meeting With Fubara In London by Infoguy666(op): 10:22pm On Apr 22, 2025
President Bola Tinubu met with suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in London.

The meeting, confirmed by The Africa Report, was held at the insistence of Governor Fubara, who assumed office in May 2023.

As of the time of this report, News360 Nigeria could not confirm the details of the meeting, as presidential aides contacted said they were not part of the President’s latest trip.

However, officials confirmed that it was the first face-to-face meeting since Tinubu invoked Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution on March 18, declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State and removing Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, from office.

Tinubu’s national broadcast on March 18 cited “months of intense political instability” that had “paralysed governance” and “threatened national stability.”

He appointed Navy Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as sole administrator.

Opposition governors from seven PDP-controlled states immediately filed a suit at the Supreme Court, challenging the constitutionality of the proclamation and calling for a return to democratic governance.

Tinubu, who had been in Paris and then London since 2 April, agreed to meet with Fubara in an effort to defuse the ongoing crisis.
Officials said the pair discussed restoring a functional government in the oil-rich state.

Although neither side disclosed specific details, presidential aides who spoke on condition of anonymity said the talks focused on the possibility of Fubara returning to office before the end of his six-month suspension.
The President returned to Abuja on Monday night after spending 18 days abroad.

It was learnt that Fubara’s estranged political godfather, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was not part of the meeting and was reportedly uneasy about such discussions taking place without him.

However, Tinubu is expected to meet with Fubara, Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to chart a lasting resolution to the political crisis in the state.

PoliticsVIDEO: Tinubu Returns To Nigeria After Visit To France, UK by Infoguy666(op): 8:05am On Apr 22, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ys4vGkvM-7o

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following a working visit to France and the United Kingdom that stirred debate over his absence amidst escalating insecurity at home, News360 Nigeria reports.

The President touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja late Monday night, April 21, where he was welcomed by top government officials. Among those present to receive him were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The announcement of his return was made by presidential aide Dada Olusegun in a post on his official X handle, confirming that the president had concluded his working engagements in Paris and London.

Tinubu had departed Nigeria on April 2 for what was officially described as a “short working visit” to France. According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the purpose of the trip was to review the achievements of his administration.

However, the president’s extended stay abroad came under heavy criticism from various quarters, particularly in light of renewed violent attacks in Plateau and Benue states that left scores dead and communities displaced.

Opposition leaders, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar, voiced strong disapproval of Tinubu’s absence, accusing the president of neglecting his duties amid mounting security concerns.

In response, the presidency dismissed speculation that the president had travelled for medical reasons.

Presidential aide Daniel Bwala, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, insisted that Tinubu was actively engaged in official duties while abroad.

“Sometimes on social media, somebody will be tweeting — you don’t even know who the person is; it can be somebody who has mental health issues somewhere,” Bwala said, downplaying the rumours.

“The president did not go to see a doctor; he’s on a working visit and we have been publishing his activities.”

Following the death of Pope Francis on April 21, the Catholic Church finds itself at a crucial turning point, as the College of Cardinals prepares to gather for a historic conclave that will shape the future of the 1.37 billion-member global faith community, News360 Nigeria reports.

Pope Francis, the first pontiff from Latin America, is remembered for his progressive stances on social justice, care for the environment, and efforts to make the Church more inclusive and compassionate.

As the world mourns his passing, attention has swiftly turned to the selection of his successor.

The upcoming conclave, to be held at the Vatican, will not only appoint the next Bishop of Rome but also determine the Church’s direction on key matters of doctrine, governance, and engagement with modern global issues.

Among the leading papal contenders are ten prominent cardinals from various regions, each reflecting the Church’s diverse cultural and theological makeup:

PoliticsDelta Governor's Aide, Shimite Bello Dies, Police Place Husband In Custody by Infoguy666(op): 4:08pm On Apr 21, 2025
Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, has passed away, News360 Nigeria reports.

She died in the early hours of Easter Monday after what sources described as a brief illness.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, said Shimite was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken.

Edafe also revealed that her husband has been placed in protective custody, not under arrest, following threats reportedly made against him.

According to Edafe: “He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”

However, Edafe disclosed that the deceased’s family later lodged a formal complaint with the police, expressing suspicion that the husband may have had a role in her death.

He added: “We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes.”

The police say further updates will follow as investigations progress.

PoliticsI Wanted Outright Removal Of Fubara, Am Not Happy With State Of Emergency - Wike by Infoguy666(op): 11:37am On Apr 18, 2025
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed dissatisfaction over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu, stating he would have preferred the outright removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State, described the president’s decision as one taken in the best interest of the state, despite his personal reservations.

“As a politician, I am not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers State. I wanted the outright removal of the governor. But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy,” Wike said.

President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers last month, citing persistent political instability and recent security threats, including pipeline explosions.

He suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the House of Assembly for six months. In their place, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs temporarily.

The move has generated widespread national debate, with many questioning the legal and constitutional implications of the president’s action.

Wike further noted that the crisis in Rivers State is currently before the courts, but insisted on speaking his truth.

“The governor was gone. It is not my place to make it good for the governor. As a politician, my business is not to make him comfortable and that is why there is power play,” he added.

The political rift between Wike and Fubara began shortly after the latter assumed office and has since escalated into a fierce power struggle.

The conflict also destabilized the state’s House of Assembly, leading to the defection of 27 lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the creation of parallel legislative factions.

The ongoing crisis continues to draw national attention as stakeholders await legal resolution and possible reconciliation efforts.

PropertiesAnambra: Demolition not personal - Commissioner, We were not informed - IVM by Infoguy666(op): 7:42am On Apr 18, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E27YMDve4S4
The Anambra State Government has demolished the showroom of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) located in Nnewi, the industrial hub of the state, News360 Nigeria reports.

The company has expressed outrage over the partial demolition of the Head Office, situated on the Owerri-Nnewi road.

Mr Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group, who confirmed the demolition to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that there was no pre-notification ahead of the demolition which took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

He claimed that the office perimeter fence, some offices, stair case and the company’s showroom were affected by the partial demolition.

According to Osigwe, there was no pre notification ahead of the demolition; it came to us as a surprise.

“We did not know that the building itself was marked for demolition and if it was marked, they should have given us time to relocate.

“The staff were working and they just saw the demolition vehicle demolishing the building while work was going on.

“Some of our staff were trapped in the building, it took the efforts of our other staff to rescue those that were trapped while over 20 vehicles were also trapped.

“A day before the demolition, there was an announcement that there was going to be a demolition and they were going to give one week for the houses that were marked for demolition to relocate.

“The company was not aware that the company was marked for demolition, and even if it was aware.

“There have been a public announcement that all the marked buildings have one week to relocate, but all those things were not considered.

“There were other buildings that were close to the head office and marked for demolition were not demolished but they came straight to our building and demolished it, making us to wonder if there was another ulterior motive to it,” he said.

When asked if the demolition could be as a result of political witch-hunt, the company’s image maker said he did not think the state government would intentionally decide to demolish the company.

“Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra has been a great supporter of Innoson Vehicle and Innoson has been a great supporter of the state government.

“But the way and manner that everything happened makes us to wonder if the state government is aware that those handling the demolition have personal vendetta against the company,”
he added.

However, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr Ifeanyi Okoma, defended the demolition, saying that the IVM Head Office was among the buildings marked for demolition for road construction.

The commissioner made the defence in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Onitsha while reacting to complaints by the company over the demolition.

Okoma explained that all the affected buildings were marked and the people were informed.

“These buildings were marked sometime in December or January, we are not looking at individuals; it is something that cuts across the whole place and it is not personalised.

“Even the Catholic Church and every other building that is along the road were not going to be exonerated. These roads were designed to decongest traffic gridlock experienced during festival periods,”
he said.

According to him, “Soludo is the only governor nationwide that uses made in Nigeria vehicles. Chief Innoson is our man, anybody trying to create wrong narrative about the demolition exercise does not mean well.

CrimeAlleged Human Trafficking: Cape Verde Detains Six Nigerian Tourist by Infoguy666(op): 6:08am On Apr 17, 2025
Six Nigerian tourists have been detained by immigration authorities in Cape Verde under controversial circumstances, News360 Nigeria reports.

The tourists have been identified as David James Udoh, Lily Dada, Oghenero Adaware, Sherifat Abimbola Ogundairo, and Jesutomi Aina.

On Wednesday, an X user, Tobi Ojenike, raised the alarm on social media, claiming her friends were being falsely accused of human trafficking.

Ojenike alleged that the Cape Verdean authorities were attempting to deport the group without due process, with the assistance of an unnamed individual.

“They’re framing them as human traffickers and denying them access to a lawyer and have them locked up. Please, who can I speak to? This is URGENT,” she wrote.

“They’ve been detained in a small room for days and attacked by policemen who have inflicted wounds on my friend. The ECOWAS is aware of this and are doing nothing!

“The Cape Verde government is trying to sneak them out of the country that they legally came into! And trying to pin them as human traffickers with the aid of a random stranger who’s seeking greener pastures and has been convinced to agree to it!

“Please help me. My friends need to get back home! They’re still he’d at the Sal Airport in Cape Verde and have been told not to resist the police.”

Popular TikToker Jarvis has stirred conversation on social media after making it clear that her connection with fellow content creator Peller is not romantic but strictly based on a contract agreement.

PoliticsHandle Social Media As Terrorist Organisation,’ Sultan Tells Security Agencies by Infoguy666(op): 5:24am On Apr 17, 2025
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar III, has declared social media a “terrorist organisation” during a speech on Wednesday, urging security agencies to address its dangers, News360 Nigeria reports.

In the remarks, captured in a video posted by News Central, the prominent Nigerian traditional leader criticised the platform for spreading false narratives that can destabilise society.

“What happened has happened. You cannot come and be doing social media because that is one terrorist organisation.

“Social media is a terrorist organisation. What they do; somebody will sit down in his comfort zone and formulate stories, and you will discover that it is not true,” the Sultan stated.

The Sultan’s call for action emphasizes the need to curb misinformation, which he believes is easily spread by individuals crafting deceptive stories online.

“So, social media is a terrorist organisation that we must deal with. Security agencies must deal with this terrorist organisation called social media,” he reiterated.

PoliticsPDP Is Finished If Atiku Gets 2027 Ticket - Bode George by Infoguy666(op): 1:49am On Apr 15, 2025
A member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, says the party will meet its end if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar secures the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, TheDay Nigeria reports.

“If he (Atiku) picks it (PDP’s ticket), that is the end of this party. If he picks it by manipulation which was what was done the last time, we will not accept it,” Bode George said on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday, April 14.

Atiku has been in a race to become Nigeria’s president for over three decades and has been the presidential candidate of different parties six times.

Atiku recently championed an inter-party alliance that birthed a coalition on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Atiku, alongside former Anambra governor Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, amongst others, announced the coalition as an attempt to oust incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, in a twist, PDP governors on Monday, April 14, 2025, rejected the coalition spearheaded by Atiku, ruling out any plan by the party for mergers or coalition.

Speaking during the television programme on Monday, Bode George applauded the PDP governors for rejecting the coalition led by Atiku.

George said Atiku has not shown himself to be a leader of the party because he has not waded into the intra-party squabbles that have befallen the party in recent times.

Bode George said: “No, if he is the leader of the party, he would have waded into it (the crisis).

“The fact that he was the presidential candidate of the party at the last election doesn’t mean he is a bona fide, fixated leader of the party. If he’s running for his private interest, it’s different from the interest of the party.”

Asked whether Atiku could be the flag bearer of the PDP in 2027, the PDP chieftain said, “He cannot be. This is what I am saying. There was eight years in the north, there should be eight years in the south. That is the dictate, that is the doctrine of the PDP. I can’t say he cannot contest; he can go to any party because it is his constitutional right but as far as we are concerned, he cannot be the candidate.”

“There are rules. Section 7, Sub-section 3C of our constitution. It states that once the presidential candidate has been in the south for eight years, it had to go to the north. And after another eight years, it would come to the south. Is Atiku from the South-West, South-South or South-East?” George asked.

The PDP chieftain said he equally doesn’t want Tinubu to be re-elected in 2027, adding that he wants his party to win the next election with a southern candidate.

PoliticsPlateau Killings: Obi Visits Victims, Donate N7.5M by Infoguy666(op): 11:40am On Apr 14, 2025
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a condolence visit to Plateau State following the recent killings in the Bokkos area of the state, TheDay Nigeria reports.

According to a statement on Monday via X, Obi travelled from Abuja to Jos, the state capital and expressed sadness over what he described as “senseless killings,” stating that such violence is unacceptable in a country not officially at war.

“Yesterday, I travelled from Abuja to Jos, Plateau State, to condole with and show solidarity with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State over the recent senseless killings in the Bokkos area of the state,” he said.

Obi noted that from Jos, he journeyed to Bokkos where he met with victims of the attacks, including displaced children and other affected persons. He lamented the devastation in the communities and stressed that no Nigerian should live in fear in their own country.

“What has happened in these communities is very saddening and utterly unacceptable. Nigerians should not be killed or forced to flee their homes when we are not at war. Every life is precious, and no Nigerian, regardless of where they live, should have to live in fear or uncertainty,” he stated.

Obi offered his sympathies, adding, “My deepest condolences go to the families and communities who have suffered tragic losses. No words can truly capture the pain and devastation that such senseless violence brings.”

He also recalled earlier support from his political movement. and further disclosed that the movement donated an additional N7.5 million to support displaced children, sustain their education, and cater to ongoing needs.

“Earlier, the Obidient Movement had built a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the community, and we continued the support yesterday with the sum of 7.5 million naira to help in providing facilities for the displaced children, provide continuous education and on going needs of those affected.

“My heart is with the people of Bokkos, the displaced children, women, and entire communities during this difficult time,” he said.

Calling for purposeful governance, Obi stated, “Now, more than ever, leadership and compassion are essential. I stand in solidarity with Plateau State and remain committed to supporting all efforts toward peace, justice, and healing.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may the people find strength, comfort, and unity as they rebuild their lives.”

SportsAnother 1980 AFCON Hero, Charles Bassey Dies At 71 by Infoguy666(op): 9:44am On Apr 14, 2025
The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed sorrow over the death of Charles Bassey, a member of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, Times of Nigeria reports.

Bassey passed away on Saturday at the age of 71 after a long illness in his hometown, Eket, Akwa Ibom State.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

His death came just hours after news broke that the captain of that victorious Green Eagles squad, Christian Chukwu, fondly called ‘Chairman’, also died in Enugu.

“This has been a day of double tragedy, and the NFF and the entire Nigerian football fraternity are deeply saddened by the turn of events. We lost ‘Chairman’ Chukwu earlier in the day; now, we have to mourn Charles Bassey. May God Almighty grant their souls eternal rest,” said NFF General Secretary, Sanusi.

Bassey was one of the 22 players who made history for Nigeria on March 22, 1980, when the Green Eagles beat Algeria 3-0 at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, to win the country’s first-ever AFCON title.

After retiring from playing, Bassey became a coach and managed several Nigerian clubs, including Calabar Rovers, Mobil Pegasus (his hometown team), BCC Lions of Gboko, Flash Flamingoes of Benin, Akwa United, and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.

His passing makes him the ninth member of the 1980 squad to have died.

Others include goalkeepers Best Ogedegbe and Moses Effiong, defenders Christian Chukwu, Okechukwu Isima, and Tunde Bamidele, midfielders Aloysius Atuegbu and Mudashiru Lawal, and fellow forward Martins Eyo.

PoliticsNUJ FCT Seeks Wike’s Intervention On Deplorable Infrastructure At Secretariat by Infoguy666(op): 10:10pm On Apr 12, 2025
…Decry High Cost of Living, Data, Poor Electricity Supply
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has appealed to the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, to urgently intervene in addressing the dilapidated state of infrastructure at the Council Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, TheDay Nigeria reports.

The appeal formed a major resolution at the second Congress of the NUJ FCT Council held on Saturday, 12th April 2025. Delegates at the meeting lamented the poor condition of the facility currently used for Congresses, describing it as unfit for a professional body of journalists operating within the nation’s capital.

Congress called on the Minister, fondly referred to as Mr Project for his visible development strides across the FCT, to extend similar attention to the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat. The Union also appealed to him to come to its aid in the completion of the long-delayed NUJ Pentagon, a building envisioned to serve as a landmark edifice for journalists in Abuja.

“The current state of our secretariat is appalling. We are earnestly appealing to the Honourable Minister to undertake a facility tour and see for himself the infrastructural decay we contend with. We believe that under his leadership, the Secretariat and Pentagon project can finally be transformed into a lasting legacy,” the Congress resolved.

In addition to the infrastructure concerns, the NUJ FCT Council used the platform to draw attention to broader socio-economic issues confronting residents of the capital and Nigerians at large.

Congress decried the persistent power outages across the FCT, attributing the problem to the inefficiencies of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). It warned that the poor electricity supply was stifling productivity and negatively impacting quality of life.

Similarly, members criticised the rising cost of telecommunications and internet data, describing it as a heavy financial burden on citizens. They urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate billing practices and introduce measures that ensure affordability and consumer protection.

The Congress also expressed grave concern over the increasing rate of maternal mortality, which it linked to worsening economic conditions and inflation. It called on the Federal Government to provide free maternal healthcare services, including pre-natal, ante-natal, and post-natal care, to alleviate the burden on expectant mothers and reduce preventable deaths.

In conclusion, the Congress reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the welfare of journalists and the general public, pledging continued engagement with relevant authorities to address these pressing challenges.

Senator Ali Ndume, an ex-Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate has launched a scathing attack on presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala, describing him as a “maga dog” during a fiery appearance on Channels Television, Times of Nigeria reports.

Ndume, who didn’t hold back in his remarks, ridiculed Bwala’s political relevance, saying:
“Bwala cannot win the House of Assembly. Bwala tried to be a senator; did he get anywhere? I don’t want to talk about Bwala, Bwala is a maga dog.”

He also used the opportunity to issue a fresh warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) about the growing threat posed by the opposition coalition.

“Tinubu should also be worried about my position because I have one vote, he doesn’t have a vote for me. The APC should be worried about what is going on (opposition coalition),” Ndume said.

His comments come in the wake of a Sallah visit by opposition figures, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Aminu Tambuwal, and others, to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna, fueling speculations about a possible mega coalition to challenge Tinubu in 2027.

Hundreds of women in Rivers State took to the streets on Friday, staging a powerful protest march towards the State Government House in Port Harcourt to demand an end to the state of emergency and the immediate return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Times of Nigeria reports.

Clad in black and chanting “Pharaoh, let my people go!”, the women voiced their concern over the appointment of a Sole Administrator to govern the state, calling it a direct assault on democracy and the will of the people.

The protesters, drawn from various local government areas across the state, demanded the lifting of the emergency rule imposed on March 18 and a return to democratic governance.

Their chants echoed through the streets, symbolizing a deep yearning for justice, leadership restoration, and constitutional order.

Speaking on behalf of the group, one of the leaders said, “This is not about politics, it’s about our right to choose. Rivers people voted for Governor Fubara. He must be allowed to lead. We didn’t elect a Pharaoh.”

The protest adds to growing national concern over the legality of the federal government’s intervention in the state, following the controversial appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd) as Sole Administrator. Legal experts and political figures have widely condemned the move as unconstitutional.

Security operatives maintained a calm presence as the women marched peacefully, demanding that the voice of the people be respected and democracy restored without further delay.

The judge gave the order, following a motion on notice filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos through its lawyer, Zeenat Atiku.

Justice Dipeolu had earlier ordered the interim forfeiture of the properties and also ordered the publication of the said order in a national newspaper for any interested parties to show cause why the properties should not be finally forfeited to the Federal Government.

Moving the application for the final forfeiture on Thursday , Atiku told the court that “no one showed cause within the 14 days window granted after the publication.

Atiku also stated that the application was supported with an affidavit deposed to by Isah Yusuf Nadabo, an operative of the EFCC.

In the affidavit, Nadabo told the court that Tijani worked at the settlement office of the bank and that he had the capacity to carry out some inalienable access available only to the office by virtue of his office.

He stated further in the affidavit that “He, therefore, carried out illegal, unauthorised and fraudulent activities against First Bank Nigeria Plc.

“Investigation has thus far revealed and traced the sum of N35billion (Thirty Five Billion Naira) benefitted by Muiz Tijani Adeyinka and his cronies. “

Atiku, therefore, told the court that the properties traced to Muiz were reasonably suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities.

After listening to the EFCC’s counsel, Justice Dipeolu held that he found merit in the argument of the applicant and ordered the final forfeiture of the properties to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

CrimeNigerian Man Serving Life Sentence In UK Wins Human Rights Case by Infoguy666(op): 1:05am On Apr 09, 2025
A Nigerian man convicted of a brutal double murder in north London has successfully argued that his human rights were violated due to the excessive delay in bringing his case to trial, Times of Nigeria reports.

Obina Christopher Ezeoke, now 32, was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 40 years for the 2016 murders of psychology student Bervil Kalikaka-Ekofo, 21, and his aunt, Annie Ekofo, 53. The killings took place in their East Finchley apartment while Bervil slept.

After facing an unprecedented five trials over a five-year period, Ezeoke was finally convicted in 2020. However, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has now ruled that the prolonged legal process constituted a breach of Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees a fair and public hearing within a “reasonable time.”

The Telegraph reported that the delays stemmed from a series of unfortunate disruptions: the first trial collapsed after the judge fell ill, two subsequent trials ended in hung juries, and the fourth trial was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the Strasbourg-based court acknowledged that most of these delays were beyond the control of UK courts or the government, it still determined that the overall length of proceedings violated Ezeoke’s rights.

Despite this finding, the ECHR declined to grant Ezeoke any form of relief beyond the ruling itself. His request for immediate release was rejected, with the court stating that his eventual conviction and sentencing were not unfair. As a result, the delay was not found to constitute a further breach of Article 6 in terms of trial outcome. The court also ruled that he was not entitled to compensation.

The verdict provoked strong criticism from some UK officials. Shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick said: “This is the latest extraordinary example of judicial activism by the Strasbourg court. It only seems to get worse.”

Details of the crime shocked the public. During the trial, the Old Bailey heard how Ezeoke entered the flat and executed Kalikaka-Ekofo by shooting him in the back of the head with a vintage Western-style revolver while he slept. He then shot Annie Ekofo in the chest with a Smith & Wesson .44 revolver as she emerged from her bedroom.

Prosecutors revealed that the killings were a revenge attack targeting Ms. Ekofo’s son, Ryan Efey, then 22. Ezeoke had reportedly been humiliated after rivals circulated a video of him being attacked on Snapchat, and he intended to kill anyone present in the flat.

In her sentencing remarks, Mrs Justice Cutts described the murders as “cold, callous and brutal,” adding that Ezeoke had not only taken two innocent lives but also “ruined the lives of many.”

She noted that although she had considered imposing a whole-life term, she settled on a 40-year minimum before parole eligibility.

During the legal process, Ezeoke’s defense argued against holding a fifth trial, claiming that the repeated delays had compromised their case. They contended that the prolonged proceedings negatively impacted the quality of evidence and made the final outcome potentially unsafe.

In his appeal to the European court, Ezeoke claimed the lengthy process weakened his defense. The ECHR specifically identified two delays as “problematic”: a one-year gap between the third and fourth trials and a six-month delay before a ruling on his application for permission to appeal.

Despite the human rights violation ruling, Ezeoke remains incarcerated in a high-security prison, serving his life sentence for the double homicide.

The case underscores the difficult balance between upholding defendants’ rights to a timely trial and ensuring justice for victims of serious crimes.

CrimeCamera Exposes Moment Armed Vandals Attacked Lekki, Targeted Exotic Cars by Infoguy666(op): 1:06am On Apr 07, 2025
Some Nigerians have expressed anger and concern following the emergence of CCTV footage showing armed men vandalising and dismantling parts of cars parked within an estate reportedly located in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State, Times of Nigeria reports.

Although the footage showed that the event occurred on March 7, 2025, the video was shared on Sunday via Facebook by Tope Fasua, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu and showed the suspects—described as “smart-looking guys armed to the teeth”—operating with precision and without being challenged.

The footage, according to Fasua, was obtained from a victim of the robbery.

“This video I got from a victim of very organised crime. These are armed robbers who also stripped cars somewhere in Lekki 1.

“They were caught on CCTV but are probably still at large. I hope they are apprehended. Watch their every movement,” Fasua wrote.

The post triggered a wave of reactions, with many Nigerians calling for a revamp of estate security and improved forensic investigation by law enforcement agencies.

Dapo Kale, one of the commenters, lamented the lack of effective crime scene processing by the Nigeria Police Force.

“This is almost a month the incident happened. I think we should devise the means of proper collection of crime scene [evidence] by the Nigeria Police Force through fingerprints on the vehicle.

“If it is scanned through all the avenues of fingerprint collection in Nigeria—be it NIN or BVN—some of these culprits will be apprehended.

“Some things aren’t rocket science if we are dispassionate in solving problems,” he wrote.

Others pointed to possible insider involvement.

“I suspect there’s a collaborator who is an insider,” Tunde Alabi commented.

“The way they avoided their faces being captured and later shifted the CCTV camera up showed that it was a planned job!

“By the way, why was there no security around?” Alabi questioned, adding that the suspects would eventually “meet their waterloo.”

Wisdom E. Nwansi raised concerns over the market for stolen car parts.

“Who are those buying these parts? If the criminals have no means of selling, they wouldn’t go about vandalising people’s cars,” he said.

“Apprehend the criminals and get the buyers too. The same is happening at our ports too,” he added.

Nnaemeka F. Onyegbule called for more sophisticated estate security systems.

“All these luxury estates will need to beef up their security measures to match up to these realities.

“Employment of adequate and real security personnel and not just gate men is a start,” he wrote.

He also advised that estates invest in technology to monitor entry and exit, ensure residents install CCTV cameras covering strategic areas, and adopt additional security tools like trip sensors and sound alarms.

“It is high time our people and the police value forensic analysis,” he added.

Bimbo Olarinde, another commentator, noted that similar incidents have become common in Lekki Phase 1.

“This is the organised crime going on in Lekki Phase 1 now. I have reported incidents like this at Maroko Police Station,” she wrote.

According to her, the robbers often operate at around 4:30 a.m. when most security guards are likely to be asleep.

“Their target is Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus. Unfortunately, the police are yet to find a clue on how to arrest them,” she said.

Michael Fatunase and Adewuyi Adeshina Nasir also suggested the use of technology such as motion-sensing alarms and leveraging biometric data already collected through BVN and NIN for investigations.

Francis Denedo echoed the belief that the robbery was likely an inside job.

“If the estate has security guards, they should be taken in for serious questions.

“The ease with which they operated tells a lot in their confidence. They were assured that no one would disturb their operations,” he wrote.

Denedo added that the weapons the men wielded appeared to be pistols.

“It’s not common for such weapons to be in the hands of just anybody. Those are professional thieves,” he argued.

“Apprehend the criminals and get the buyers too. The same is happening at our ports too,” he added.

PoliticsCourt Orders Final Forfeiture Of Kano, Abuja Property Linked To FIRS Employee by Infoguy666(op): 12:55am On Apr 06, 2025
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, ordered the final forfeiture of two property linked to a staff member of Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Aminu Garunbaba, to the Federal Government, Times of Nigeria reports.

The property include a four bedroom terrace maisonette with BQ at Barumark Groove Estate, Plot 667, Cadastral Zone, BO3, Wuye District, Abuja and bought by Garunbaba in the name of MYZ Venture.

The second property, located at No. 5, Lodge Road, Kano in Kano State, was said to have been purchased also by Garunbaba.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in a judgment, held that Garunbaba failed to show the instrument he used to purchase the property.

Justice Egwuatu held that the respondent also failed to show any reasonable cause that the funds used in purchasing the property is from his legitimate earnings.

“A person cannot be allowed to benefit from illegitimate acts,” he said.

The judge earlier dismissed the preliminary objection filed by Garunbaba on the grounds that the objector did not discharge the burden to proof that the particular paragraphs in the EFCC’s application offended the Evidence Act.

He agreed with counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Martha Babatunde, that a public officer can be investigated and prosecuted before an administrative disciplinary action is taken.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the EFCC had, in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/876/2021 filed by Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, sued Aminu Sidi Garunbaba as sole respondent.

In the motion on notice dated March 16, 2022 but filed on March 21, 2022, the anti-graft agency prayed for final order of the court “forfeiting the properties described in Schedule 1 which were found by the commission on the respondent as properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.”

Giving four grounds, the commission argued that the court had the statutory powers under the provision of Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 to grant the reliefs being sought.

It said: “The properties sought to be attached and forfeited are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

“The interim order of this honourable court has been published in two national dailies namely: THISDAY and PUNCH Newspapers.

“No cause or sufficient cause has been shown why the properties under the interim forfeiture should not be finally forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

In the affidavit in support of the motion deposed to by an operative of the EFCC, Apagu Wudah, the officer said several investigations were carried out regarding the assets.

He said as an investigating officer with the Economic Governance Section of the agency, he was assigned to investigate an intelligence report bordering on criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering among some FIRS

Wudah said the investigation revealed that between 2017 and 2018, Garunbaba and some of the staff of the FIRS conspired amongst themselves and obtained millions of Naira from the FIRS under the guise of Duty Tour Allowances (DTA) which they never travelled for.

He said in the execution of the fraud, the staff involved applied for DTA in respect of a non-existing trip.

According to him, upon being paid the DTA, the staff would deduct 10% to 15 per cent of the amount paid as his/her share, while the rest amount was withdrawn and transmitted to other senior officials of the agency who in turn also retained some while passing the rest up to the former Director of Finance and the Coordinating Director.

“The respondent (Garunbaba) not only directly applied and received DTA payment for none existing trips from FIRS, other staff who received these fraudulent payments also handed over to him part of their own money.”

The investigator said between 2017 and 2018, Garunbaba received the sum of N341, 971,960.00 (three hundred and forty one million, nine hundred and seventy-one thousand, nine hundred and fifty naira) from the misappropriated DTA payments.

He said Garunbaba also personally converted to his use the sum of N148, 079,450.00 (one hundred and forty eight million, seventy nine thousand, four hundred and fifty naira).

“The respondent gave details of the various funds he received in the fraudulent scheme and how he utilised some of them in his extra l-judicial statements to the applicant,” he averred
Wudah said Garunbaba, in explaining how he shared part of the entire funds, wrote in his extra-judicial statement made in the presence of his legal representative on May 23, 2019 some startling revelations.

He said the respondent revealed that the total sum of N269, 335, 750 was giving as follows: Peter Hena, 145,000,000; Bello Auta, N95, 000,000; and Aminu Sidi, N29, 336,750.

He said Garunbaba confessed that the money was giving in cash at the FIRS office.

The investigator said Garunbaba received part of the above diverted funds through his Stanbic IBTC Bank account number: 9301540597 while the rest were in cash from other staff.

He said Garunbaba also converted most of these funds into US dollars through a Bureau De Change Operator — Mr. Wan Jafar Shehu.

“According to Mr. Shehu, between 2017 and 2019, the respondent gave him a total sum of about N216, 000, 000 at different occasions for him to exchange into United States Dollars which he did” Wudah said.

The EFCC operative said in 2018, Garunbaba purchased the four bedroom terrace maisonette from Barumark Investment and Development Company Ltd (Barumark) at the rate of N65,000,000.00 (sixty five million naira).
He said the money was paid through his First Bank account number: 3040986059 to Barumark’s First Bank account.

He said Garunbaba equally purchased the property situated at No.5 Lodge Road in Kano State at the sum of N39, 000,000.00 (thirty nine million naira) from one Alakhillau Enterprises which is operated by Adamu Muhammed.

Wudah said Garunbaba is a public servant on fixed annual salary whose lawful income was not used to purchase the property described.

He said the assets were purchased at the time Garunbaba was receiving and diverting funds paid as DTA by the FIRS to him and his colleagues.

PoliticsPaul Chukwuma: Anambra Guber Aspirant Dumps APC Hours To Party Primary by Infoguy666(op): 2:53am On Apr 05, 2025
In a dramatic twist ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Anambra State, frontline aspirant Sir Paul Chukwuma has resigned from the party just hours before the exercise scheduled to take place in Awka, Times of Nigeria reports.

In a resignation letter addressed to the chairman of Unueri Ward 2 in Anambra East Local Government Area, Chukwuma cited his desire to build a broader political movement and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as the reason for his departure from the APC.

The letter reads in part: “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My decision finds expression in my quest to connect Anambra State to national politics by building a broader and all-encompassing political movement within the state in support of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“While thanking you for your leadership over the years, be rest assured of my continued support to our shared progressive ideas. I will devote more time to pursuing the realization of a safe and prosperous Anambra of our dreams.”

Though Chukwuma did not directly mention the reason for his withdrawal, his resignation is believed to be linked to allegations of manipulation in the party’s primary, reportedly orchestrated by APC leadership in favor of a preferred aspirant.

Chukwuma, who served as APC’s national auditor and previously as the South East zonal youth leader, has been a prominent figure and major financier of the party in Anambra for years. His exit has sparked concerns of a potential wave of defections by his supporters.

Party insiders fear that the development may further weaken the APC’s chances ahead of the November 8 governorship election in the state.
