PoliticsJubilation In Enugu Community Over Ekweremadu’s Wife Return From UK Jail (Video) by Infoguy666(op): 10:37am On Jan 23, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlVQs5sHofE

Mpu community in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State erupted in jubilation, on Wednesday, over the return of Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, from a United Kingdom prison,News360 Nigeria reports.

Our correspondent gathered that Mrs. Ekweremadu, who was sentenced to five years in prison in May 2023 for her involvement in an organ trafficking plot, returned to Nigeria on Tuesday.

She, her husband, and a medical doctor, Dr Obinna Obeta, were convicted by the UK court for their roles in a failed plot to harvest the kidney of a 21-year-old Lagos street trader.

The Ekweremadus were said to have lured the young trader to the UK for the purpose of harvesting one of his kidneys for their daughter, Sonia, who was suffering from a kidney disease.

The young man, however, fled in the UK and reported to the police, leading to the arrest, trial and conviction of the Ekweremadus on May 5, 2023.

The court sentenced Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in prison; his wife, Beatrice, got four years and six months term, while the medical doctor who acted as a ‘middleman’ in the plot, Obeta, was sentenced to 10 years and his medical licence suspended.

During a community-wide celebration on Wednessay, the President of Mpu Town Union Federated, Mr. Benjamin Chijioke, described Mrs Ekweremadu’s return from the UK jail as a significant relief for the entire community.

“Our joy as Mpu people knows no bounds. This is a great day for us. Since morning, it has been jubilation and celebration across all the villages,” Chijioke said.

He noted that many community members, especially those who relied on the Ekweremadu family’s philanthropy, were overwhelmed with tears of joy.

He added that the celebrations coincided with the community’s Orie market day, which turned the marketplace into a hub of festivity.

“We thank God and pray that He intervenes so that our illustrious son and leader, distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will soon return home in good health,” Chijioke added. “Their absence has caused a significant setback for the community, but we remain hopeful.”

The councillor for Mpu Ward, Ogbuka Edwin, also expressed gratitude for Mrs. Ekweremadu’s return, saying the absence of the Ekweremadus had created a gap in the community.

“It feels like a public holiday here in Mpu. The news brought so much cheer. We will continue to pray until our leader and hero, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, rejoins his family,” Edwin said.

Social media platforms associated with the Mpu community have been flooded with messages of celebration and prayers for Senator Ekweremadu’s return.

One message read: “Daalu Ezinne! But I can’t wait until I see Ikeoha Global! The man who made me who I am politically—a builder of people and structures. New things will happen soon!”

Another stated: “May God’s name be praised now and always, Amen. It can only be God.”

Amidst the joy, another community member wrote: “Waoooi, good news! Thank you for everything. Dear mummy, you are highly, highly welcome, ma!”

BusinessWorld Bank Bans Two Nigerian Firms, CEO Over Fraudulent Practices by Infoguy666(op): 2:52pm On Jan 21, 2025
The World Bank Group has announced a 30-month debarment of two Nigerian companies, Viva Atlantic Limited and Technology House Limited, alongside their Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Norman Didam, News360 Nigeria reports.

The sanction is due to their involvement in fraudulent, collusive, and corrupt practices linked to the National Social Safety Nets Project in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Monday, the World Bank revealed that the project, designed to deliver targeted financial assistance to poor and vulnerable households, was compromised during a 2018 procurement and subsequent contract process.

The unethical practices by the companies and their CEO undermined the integrity of the initiative aimed at alleviating poverty.

The statement read, “The World Bank Group today announced the 30-month debarment of two Nigeria-based companies—Viva Atlantic Limited and Technology House Limited—and their Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Norman Bwuruk Didam.

“The debarment is in connection with fraudulent, collusive, and corrupt practices as part of the National Social Safety Nets Project in Nigeria.”

The bank said that Viva Atlantic Limited, Technology House Limited, and Didam misrepresented a conflict of interest in their bids and accessed confidential tender information from public officials.

It added that these actions constituted fraudulent and collusive practices under its Anti-corruption Framework.

The World Bank further noted that Viva Atlantic Limited and Didam falsified the company’s experience records, submitted fake manufacturer’s authorisation letters, and provided inducements to project officials, which it classified as corrupt practices.

These violations, according to the bank, undermined the integrity of the social safety net initiative designed to benefit Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations.

The statement noted, “According to the facts of the case and the general principles of the World Bank’s Anticorruption Framework, in connection with a 2018 procurement and subsequent contract, Viva Atlantic Limited, Technology House Limited, and Mr. Didam misrepresented a conflict of interest in the companies’ Letter of Bids and received confidential tender information from public officials, which constituted fraudulent and collusive practices, respectively.

“Further, Viva Atlantic Limited and Mr. Didam misrepresented Viva Atlantic Limited’s experience and submitted falsified manufacturer’s authorization letters, as well as offered and provided things of value to project public officials. These actions were fraudulent and corrupt practices, respectively.”

The debarment precludes the two companies and Didam from participating in World Bank-financed projects and operations for the specified period.

As part of their settlement agreements, the parties acknowledged their culpability and committed to meeting specified conditions, including enhanced compliance measures.

The conditions require Didam to complete individual ethics training, while the companies are mandated to improve their internal integrity compliance policies and implement corporate ethics training programmes in line with the bank’s Integrity Compliance Guidelines.

The bank highlighted that reduced debarment periods were granted due to the parties’ cooperation during investigations, voluntary corrective actions, self-imposed restraints from bidding for contracts, and the time elapsed since the infractions.

The statement added that the debarments qualify for cross-debarment by other multilateral development banks under the Agreement for Mutual Enforcement of Debarment Decisions, signed in April 2010.

It also stated, “The companies also commit to continue to fully cooperate with the Bank Group Integrity Vice Presidency. The settlement agreements feature reduced debarment periods due to the companies’ and Mr Didam’s cooperation with the Bank Group’s investigation, voluntary corrective actions, voluntary restraint from participating in Bank Group tenders, and the passage of time.”

The World Bank reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in development projects, stressing that the sanctions demonstrate its zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

It said the implicated parties must fulfil the stipulated conditions during the debarment period to regain eligibility for participation in future Bank-funded initiatives.

PoliticsGovernors Endorses Tax Reforms Bill, Proposes Revised VAT Sharing Formula by Infoguy666(op): 6:09pm On Jan 16, 2025
The thirty-six State Governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF have brainstormed with the federal government on the tax reform bills forwarded to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu, proposing a new sharing formula if the tax reform bills must see the light of the day, News360 Nigeria reports.

The Governors at the end of a meeting of Subnational consultations and engagement yesterday in Abuja with the Chairman of Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, have thrown their weight behind the continuation of the legislative process at the National Assembly that will culminate in the eventual passage of the Tax Reform Bills.”

In a Communique signed by the NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, Abdul Rahman Abdul Razaq said that the Forum endorsed a revised Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing formula to ensure equitable distribution of resources of 50% based on equality, 30% based on derivation, and 20% based on population.

The Governors have resolved that there should be no increase in the VAT rate or reduction in Corporate Income Tax (CIT) at this time in order to maintain economic stability, just as they have called for the continued exemption of essential goods and agricultural produce from VAT as that would help safeguard the welfare of citizens and promote agricultural productivity.

The Governors also at the end of the meeting recommended that there should be no terminal clause for
Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, and National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA in the sharing of development levies in the bills.

The Communique read, “We, members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and presidential tax reform committee, convened on the 16th of January 2025 to deliberate on critical national issues, including the reform of Nigeria’s fiscal policies and tax system, and arrived at the following resolutions:

“The Forum reiterated its strong support for the comprehensive reform of Nigeria’s archaic tax laws. Members acknowledged the importance of modernizing the tax system to enhance fiscal stability and align with global best practices.

“The Forum endorsed a revised Value Added Tax (VAT) sharing formula to ensure equitable distribution of resources: 50% based on equality, 30% based on derivation, and 20% based on population.

“Members agreed that there should be no increase in the VAT rate or reduction in Corporate Income Tax (CIT) at this time, to maintain economic stability. The Forum advocated for the continued exemption of essential goods and agricultural produce from VAT to safeguard the welfare of citizens and promote agricultural productivity.

“The meeting recommended that there should be no terminal clause for TETFUND, NASENI, and NITDA in

the sharing of development levies in the bills.

“The meeting supports the continuation of the legislative process at the National Assembly that will culminate in. the eventual passage of the Tax Reform Bills.”

Recall that on October 3, 2024, President Tinubu transmitted four tax reform bills to the National Assembly for consideration, following the recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal and Tax Reforms headed by Taiwo Oyedele for the review of existing tax laws.

The bills include the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, which is expected to provide the fiscal framework for taxation in the country, and the Tax Administration Bill, which will provide a clear and concise legal framework for all taxes in the country and reduce disputes.

Others are the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, which will repeal the Federal Inland Revenue Service Act and establish the Nigeria Revenue Service, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill, which will create a tax tribunal and a tax ombudsman.

Also recall that the same day, both the Senate and the House of Representatives embarked on the hurried recess, the National Economic Council ( NEC ) chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, resolved that the tax reform bills should be withdrawn from the National Assembly by President Tinubu for wider consultation.

But President Tinubu on Thursday, 31st October, 2024, responded to the request that the bills should be allowed to pass through the required legislative processes at both chambers which according to him, will give concerned Nigerians the opportunity to get details on the bills and make their inputs, particularly at the stage of Public hearing.

Also recall that the bills were passed for second reading in the Senate on 28th of November, 2024.

PoliticsI Won't Help Tinubu's Govt In Fight Against Hardship - Emir Sanusi (video) by Infoguy666(op): 9:48pm On Jan 15, 2025

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLADGkzi790

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has announced that he will no longer offer advice to President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding Nigeria's economic challenges, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 21st Memorial Lecture of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Lagos, the Emir, who served as chairman of the event, disclosed his decision to step back from providing guidance to the federal government.

"I started by helping the government, but I have now resolved not to help the government again," Sanusi said.

The former Central Bank Governor, known for his outspoken nature on national issues, did not elaborate on the reasons behind his decision. However, his remark signals his dissatisfaction or disillusionment with the government's approach to economic governance.

He said: ” I can give a few points here about what we are going through and how it was predictable and avoidable. But I am not going to do that. I have chosen not to speak on the economy, or reforms or to explain anything because if I explain it, it will help this government. But I don’t want to help this government. They are my friends, but if they don’t behave like friends, I won’t behave like a friend.”

Continuing he said: ” They don’t even have people with pedigree that can come and explain to the people what they are doing. I am not going to help. I started by helping, but I am not going to help. Let them come and explain to Nigerians why they are pursuing the policies that they are pursuing.

” But I will say this one thing though. What we are going through today is at least in part, a necessary consequence of decades of irresponsible management. People were warning that if we continued the way that we were going, this is how we will end up but they refused to listen.

“Now, is everything being done correctly? No. When I am ready to talk about the economy, I will.”

PoliticsTinubu Distributes Palliatives To SUG Presidents Nationwide by Infoguy666(op): 7:58am On Jan 15, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has provided palliative relief to Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, News360 Nigeria reports.

The distribution, which included bags of rice, was coordinated through the Office of the Special Adviser on Students Engagement, Asefon Sunday, in Abuja on Tuesday.

Speaking during the distribution, Asefon noted that the initiative reflects the President’s commitment to supporting students and fostering strong ties with the academic community.

“Today, the SUG Presidents across the Federation, by God’s grace, will also receive their rice from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man who understands the importance of students as leaders not only of tomorrow but also of today.

“The President gave them the rice, but unfortunately, the rice arrived in Abuja very late, around December 28th last year. So, this year, we thought it wise to ask them to come to Abuja so that we could personally hand over the rice to them. We selected two SUG Presidents from each zone to represent them and manage the distribution of the palliative.

“It has never happened in the history of this country that the President will reach out to stakeholders and student leaders, particularly SUG Presidents, in December. This is the first time it’s happening,” Asefon stated.

In 2024, Asefon promised that students would benefit more from the Presidential initiative.

“This will be a time for Nigerian youth and students to reflect and express their thoughts while engaging with the government. The students and youth of this country are now feeling the presence of the government and experiencing its impact,” he said.

One of the student representatives, Fahad Abdullahi, the Student Union Government President of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, appreciated the President’s initiative, through Asefon.

“We were informed that all SUG Presidents across the 36 states of the nation should come and receive rice, a gesture from the President.

“We are sincerely appreciative and commend him for these initiatives, starting with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and now the Rice Initiative. We are looking forward to more,” he said.

PoliticsIbadan Stampede: Court Grants Ooni’s Ex-queen Naomi, Hamzat, Principal Bail by Infoguy666(op): 1:13pm On Jan 13, 2025
Inside NigeriaIbadan Stampede: Court grants bail to ex-Ooni’s ex-wife, Naomi, Hamzat, othersPublished 36 minutes ago on January 13, 2025By Bamidele Akintola, News360 Nigeria reports.

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has granted bail to Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of Agidigbo FM; and Abdullahi Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun.

Presiding over the case, Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin approved the bail applications on Monday. Oriyomi Hamzat was granted bail set at N10 million with the condition of providing two sureties.

Additionally, the court ruled that Agidigbo FM must refrain from broadcasting news related to the ongoing case.

The defendants had submitted their bail applications last Tuesday, but the court ordered their remand in custody until today for a decision.

During the hearing, the defence argued that the defendants posed no flight risk and were prepared to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.

However, Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, opposed the bail applications, citing the seriousness of the charges and emphasizing the need to uphold justice for the victims and their families.

“The court listened to all the various arguments, and the ruling was reserved till the 13th of January. So principally, we are saying that he ought to be admitted on bail based on certain grounds which I would not want to expatiate on here.”

The defendants were arrested over the ill-fated children’s festive party in December 2024 which claimed the lives of at least 35 children following a stampede at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has insisted that those involved in the stampede must face trial.

He, however, added that he wasn’t against the suspects being granted bail in the case.

PoliticsFear Grip Residents As Midnight Explosion Rock Imo Community by Infoguy666(op): 10:00am On Jan 13, 2025
A bomb explosion rocked the Umuneke community in Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, during the early hours of Saturday, News360 Nigeria reports.

Reports indicate that the blast occurred at a newly completed family house, reducing the structure to rubble. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the incident.

A source, Iyke Njoku, said, “The sound was massive as well as the bang. We waited a while and when we didn’t see any movement or hear screams, we decided to check, only to see the house in rubble.

“When our neighbours from neighbouring villages called to ask us the cause of the sound, that was when we went to check how safe we were.

“The house was a bungalow and the couple just completed it even as they were planning to move in by February.

“It is so painful that all their efforts have become a waste because they can’t move in as planned again.”

A resident, Mr. Emma Emeka, told our correspondent on Sunday that they were jolted in the night by an enormous sound.

Emeka said, “We were in our house when we heard a massive sound, just like an explosion. When we rushed out, a newly constructed bungalow was destroyed. It happened so quickly, as nobody saw what triggered it or who was behind it.

“All we heard was the loud explosion; now, we are gazing at the new building of our kinsman reduced to rubble.

“The couple had worked hard to complete the building and were planning to move in this year but they cannot do so again.

“The funny part is people in neighbouring villages heard the sound and wondered where the blast came from. We all slept with one eye open for fear of attack.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the state police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, proved abortive as his number did not connect.

CelebritiesAGN President, Emeka Rollas Arrested, Detained In Abia by Infoguy666(op): 5:34am On Jan 13, 2025
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Chief Emeka Rollas, has been arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, Abia State, over allegations of imposing unelected leadership on the guild’s state chapter, News360 Nigeria reports.

The controversy began after the May 20, 2023, election that saw David Onyebuchi Amalaha emerge as Chairman of the AGN Abia State chapter. Despite Amalaha’s election, the national leadership, led by Rollas, has reportedly appointed multiple interim chairpersons, sparking discord among guild members.

During a meeting called by Rollas in Umuahia on Thursday, tensions boiled over as key stakeholders, including Amalaha, were excluded from discussions. Protests ensued, disrupting the meeting and prompting police intervention.

Rollas, along with actor Emmanuel Ehumadu, popularly known as Labista, was detained following a petition filed at Zone 9 Police Headquarters.

Some guild members, including Chika Okezie and Egwuatu Daniel, have accused Rollas of creating division within the guild. They allege that his actions undermine the elected leadership and disregard the democratic process.

The police are investigating the matter as AGN members await resolution of the leadership crisis.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred around 2:00 a.m. while villagers were asleep. The assailants burned down a church, residential houses, and looted food supplies and livestock before fleeing the area.

This incident follows a similar attack on Njilang village in Chibok on January 2, where the terrorists displaced the entire community, forcing residents to seek refuge elsewhere.

PoliticsBe Patient, Tinubu’s Daughter Urges Nigerians Over Hardship by Infoguy666(op): 9:57am On Feb 20, 2024
Alhaja Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja General of Lagos State and President Bola Tinubu’s daughter, has urged Nigerians to be patient while the country faces economic difficulties.

She advised people to keep hope alive, stating that the economic slowdown is a worldwide phenomena that is not unique to Nigeria.

Tinubu-Ojo spoke with reporters during the 2024 Mawlid Nabiyy of the Lagos State branch of the Aljamahatul Qadiriyyah Islamic Movement.

The ceremony also included national prayers, with various passages of the Glorious Qur’an recited to seek direction for Nigerian leaders and the best for the country.

The Iyaloja General, who was turbaned Iya Adinni of Qadiriyyah in Nigeria and Africa for her services to Islamic growth, assured Nigerians that her father was trying to alleviate the country’s hardships.

“My message to all Nigerians is to please exercise a little more patience. Everything will be alright; it’s just a matter of time. We need to keep our hope alive. There is an economic downturn all over the world, and not in Nigeria alone. But we pray Allah will see us through.”

The event which took place at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos , Southwest, Nigeria attracted prominent Muslim personalities from different walks of life.

Amidst the hardship in the land, guests at the annual Mawlid Nabbiy and prayer for the Nation expressed hope that the country will overcome the current economic challenges, appealing for more patience.

The Chief Missioner and Founder of Al-Abrar Foundation, Sheikh Adam Muhammad Raji Adebayo called on Muslims to return to Allah, noting it’s the antidote to the current hardship being faced in the country.

“The antidote to this hardship is for us to go back to our creator. We should talk to the Almighty Allah because whatever is happening is in His decree. So, if truly we believe in destiny, we should all go back to our creator, pray to Him and seek His assistance on the current hardship. Importantly, we should seek forgiveness from Allah because all of us have committed sins one way or the other,” he said.

The scholar also charged Muslims to emulate the Prophet in their deeds and words.

The grand Khalifa of Tijaniyya for Lagos State, Sheikh Aminullah Abd’Salam Akoshile, who was a guest, said the hardship is a test from Allah, noting Muslims should be patient and prayerful.

“The reality with us currently is that we have hunger ravaging the country, and there is hardship. But it’s part of the test of Allah. He said in the Qur’an that he would occasionally test us with hunger and other things. And there would be glad tidings for those who are patient.

“We need prayer. Therefore, we should continue to pray for our leaders and our country. We will come out of this.”

The Chief Host and Khalifah Qadiriyyah Lagos, Sheikh Soliu Jamiu Amasa, noted that citizens have a role to play in tackling the hardship.

According to him,

“We should pray for our nation. We should pray for our leaders. When we support our leaders with prayer, they will get it right and everything will be okay.”

Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim, a former Chairman of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TERTFUND), commended the movement for bringing thousands of Muslims together for the annual Mawlid Nabiyy, saying the celebration is unprecedented by all standards of measurement.
