PoliticsDSS Files Terrorism Charges Against Nine Suspects Over Yelwata, Plateau Killings by Infoguy666(op): 12:27am On Aug 29, 2025
The Department of State Services, DSS, on Thursday filed charges at the Federal High Court, Abuja, against nine suspects allegedly linked to the recent deadly attacks on Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, and parts of Plateau State, News360 Nigeria reports.

The attacks left more than 40 people dead, many others injured, and hundreds displaced in both states.

The massacre in Yelwata prompted a visit by President Bola Tinubu, during which he urged the people of Benue to learn to live in peace. He also charged security agents to fish out the killers.

According to the charge sheet before the court, the suspects appeared to have been arrested across ethnic and religious lines.

The document stated that one Haruna Adamu, Muhammad Abdullahi of Awe LGA, Nasarawa State, and others still at large, had on June 13, 2025, allegedly carried out attacks against the people of Abinsi and Yelwata villages.

The offence, the DSS said, is contrary to and punishable under Section 12 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

The two accused persons were said to have conspired with Musa Beniyon, Bako Malowa, Ibrahim Tunga, Asara Ahnadu, Legu Musa, Adamu Yale, Boddi Ayuba, Pyeure Damina and others still at large to carry out the Yelwata attacks.

In the charge sheet marked THC/ABJ/CR/449/2025, filed on behalf of the Federal Government by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Muhammad Abubakar, the two defendants were accused of engaging in conduct in preparation to commit terrorism. They allegedly acted jointly with others for the commission of the terror act in Abinsi and Yelwata.

This, the Federal Government stated, is contrary to Section 29 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

In another case, two other suspects, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede of Guma LGA, Benue State, were charged with three counts of allegedly carrying out reprisal attacks against suspects involved in the Abinsi and Yelwata incidents.

In the charge sheet marked FHC/ABJ/CR/448/2025, the two were accused of attending and participating in a meeting which led “to the commissioning of acts of terrorism, causing destruction to private property resulting in the economic loss of 12 cattle in Ukpam village, Benue State.” The Director of Public Prosecution said this is contrary to Section 12 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022.

In count two, they were alleged to have, in July 2025, at a meeting in Daudu town, Guma LGA, conspired with others still at large to carry out terrorist acts, contrary to Section 26 of the Act.

In count three, the DSS accused them of knowingly rendering support and receiving material assistance in the form of locally made guns and AK-47 rifles from one Alhaji Uba for the commission of terrorism that led to the destruction of private property and loss of 12 cattle in Ukpam village, contrary to Section 13 of the Act.

In a separate charge, a 32-year-old woman, Halima Haliru Umar of Faskari LGA, Katsina State, was charged with four counts of terrorism, including transporting, in July 2025, 302 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition to bandits, which the Service said contravened Section 13 of the Act.

She was also charged with concealing information about one Alhaji Sani, a suspected gun runner, bandit, and kidnapper. According to the DSS, the information would have led to Sani’s arrest and the prevention of terrorism. The DSS said her action contravened Section 6 of the Act.

Relatedly, a 75-year-old man, Nanbol Tali, and another, Timnan Manjo, were charged with four counts of allegedly buying and selling two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles without licence for N3 million. According to the DSS, the offence is contrary to Section 9 of the Act and punishable under Section 27 of the Firearms Act, 2024.

They were also accused of possessing a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle in Manju LGA of Plateau State, and of buying three long-range revolvers at N60,000 each from one Chomo to resell to bandits.

In another charge, one Danjuma Antu of Jos North LGA, Plateau State, was arraigned on five counts of unlawful possession of two locally fabricated pistols capable of discharging 9mm calibre ammunition. The DSS said this contravenes Section 3 of the Firearms Act, 2024, and is punishable under Section 27.

The DSS also filed a six-count charge against one Silas Iduh Oloche of Agatu LGA, Benue State, for unlawful possession of 18 grenades without licence, which the Service said is contrary to Section 3 and punishable under Section 27 of the Firearms Act.

Oloche was said to have been arrested on August 2, 2025, with 683 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, contrary to Section 8 of the Act.

Meanwhile, no date has been fixed for the trial of the suspects.

PoliticsPolice, NSCDC Clash In Ebonyi, One Dies by Infoguy666(op): 6:21pm On Aug 28, 2025
A clash between personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Amaeze community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has led to the death of a police officer and left others injured, News360 Nigeria reports.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, reportedly began when three police Hilux vans conveying about 30 officers intercepted and allegedly opened fire on an NSCDC van transporting mining equipment to a site in the area.

During the confrontation, a policeman identified as Shedrack was killed by a stray bullet when his colleagues attempted to disarm an NSCDC officer.

Eyewitnesses said in the heat of the fracas, policemen mistakenly shot their colleague, while others sustained injuries.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of Ivo LGA, Emmanuel Ajah, said he was informed by the Divisional Police Officer that there was indeed a clash between the two security agencies which resulted in the death of one officer.

The deceased officer’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment.

However, the Ebonyi State Police Command in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, gave a different account.

According to the police, their officers had gone to effect the arrest of suspects named in a petition when the NSCDC obstructed them.

The police said the suspects had willingly agreed to follow them, but the NSCDC team leader allegedly blocked their vehicle and attempted to seize a rifle from one of the officers, during which the weapon discharged and fatally injured a policeman.

Ukandu confirmed that the NSCDC officer responsible had been arrested, while a full investigation was underway. He emphasized that no individual or institution has the authority to obstruct the police in carrying out their constitutional duties.A clash between personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Amaeze community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has led to the death of a police officer and left others injured.

PoliticsNigeria’s Justice System Failing The Poor, Favouring The Rich - Sultan Of Sokoto by Infoguy666(op): 9:00am On Aug 25, 2025
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has voiced serious concern that Nigeria’s justice system is tilting in favour of the wealthy while leaving the poor to suffer, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking on Sunday in Enugu at the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Sultan warned that corruption and inequality are weakening the courts.

“Justice is increasingly becoming a purchasable commodity, and the poor are becoming victims, while the rich commit all manner of crime and walk the streets scot-free,” he said.

He cautioned that such imbalance fuels anger, mistrust, and potential violence, stressing that once public confidence in the judiciary collapses, people may resort to self-help.

The Sultan urged lawyers to place truth and fairness above personal or financial interest. “It is only when the legal profession leads by example that the public can trust the system again,” he added.

Analysts note that a justice system skewed towards the rich not only encourages crime but also discourages investment and weakens democracy.

Civil society groups have also repeatedly reported that Nigerian prisons remain overcrowded, largely filled with people awaiting trial who cannot afford legal aid or bail.

The Sultan’s warning echoes long-standing concerns about corruption and inequality in the justice sector and adds weight to calls for urgent reforms, including transparent court processes, expanded access to legal assistance, and stronger oversight of judicial practices.

PoliticsUS Report Raises Human Rights Concerns In Nigeria, Presidency Defends Reforms by Infoguy666(op): 11:41am On Aug 20, 2025
The United States government has raised concerns over security and justice delivery in the country, citing cases of enforced disappearances and arbitrary detentions, News360 Nigeria reports.

But the Presidency in a swift reaction last night, said the country’s judicial system was not only addressing concerns about lengthy pre-trial periods, alongside other issues, but that the Federal Government is also stabilising the naira and re-calibrating the economy generally.

However, in its Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2024, released by the Department of State, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, the US also identified lengthy pre-trial detention and delays as major challenges facing justice delivery in Nigeria.

The report also said the new minimum wage of N70,000 had been undermined by the continued depreciation of the naira.

While quoting Amnesty International as saying the whereabouts of “dozens of young men detained at SARS Awkuzu,” a former police station in Anambra State, remains unknown since disbandment of SARS in 2020, the report stated: “Police and other security services had the authority to arrest individuals without a warrant if officials reasonably suspected a person committed a crime. Security forces sometimes abused this authority.

“The law required subjects be brought before a magistrate within 48 hours and have access to lawyers and family members.

“According to the law, initial pre-trial detention orders were not to exceed 14 days. In some instances, government and security employees did not adhere to this regulation.

The report noted further that bail provisions were often arbitrary, with suspects kept incommunicado and sometimes incarcerated indefinitely in investigative detention.

In their prosecution of corruption cases, law enforcement and intelligence agencies did not always follow due process, arresting suspects without appropriate arrest and search warrants,” the report stated.

On the judiciary, the US identified lengthy pre-trial detention and delays as major challenges, saying

“Some detainees were held in pre-trial detention for periods equal or exceeding the maximum sentence for the accused crime.

“The shortage of trial judges, trial backlogs, endemic corruption, bureaucratic inertia, and undue political influence seriously hampered the judicial system.

“Some detainees had their cases delayed because the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Prisons Service did not have vehicles to transport them to court. Some individuals remained in detention because authorities lost their case files.’’

New minimum wage eroded

The report also said the new N70,000 minimum wage had been completely eroded by the continued devaluation of the area

It noted that the new wage, pegged at about $47.90 per month, had lost its value due to the naira trading at over N1,500 to the dollar.

The report, which added that firms with fewer than 25 workers did not benefit from the wage increase, stated: “The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 doubled the minimum wage to N70,000 ($47.90) per month.

“Despite the increase, currency devaluation meant the minimum wage was no longer higher than the poverty income level. Many employers had fewer than 25 employees, so most workers were not covered.’’

The law provides a national minimum wage for employers with 25 or more full-time staff, with exceptions for seasonal agricultural workers, part-time employees, and commission-based roles.

The US report further observed that some states had declined to implement the law, citing financial constraints, and also pointed out gaps in enforcement.

It stated: “The law did not define premium pay or overtime and prohibited excessive compulsory overtime for civilian government employees, stressing that the government rarely effectively enforced minimum wage and overtime, while penalties were low and not commensurate with other crimes such as fraud.”

According to the report, between 70 and 80 per cent of Nigeria’s working population operates in the informal economy, where authorities fail to enforce wage, hour, and occupational safety and health laws.

On child rights, the US flagged concerns over early marriage, despite federal laws stipulating 18 years as the minimum age. “Federal law sets a minimum age of 18 for marriage for both boys and girls. While 35 states, except Zamfara State, adopted the law, many states, especially northern states, did not uphold the federal minimum age.

“In some states, children as young as 11 could be legally married under customary or religious law.

“The government worked with local and international partners to engage religious leaders, emirs, and sultans on the issue, emphasising the health hazards of early marriage,” the report emphasised.

Concerns in report being addressed — Presidency

Reacting to the US report, the Presidency, in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said the judicial system in the country is addressing concerns about lengthy pre-trial periods, alongside other issues.

He also said there is better coordination of security efforts from all security agencies, adding that several security challenges the country was facing had abated.

The presidential spokesman, who noted that recalibration of the economy had started yielding positive results, said on security: “The US, through its Nigerian Mission, only recently praised the Nigerian security apparatus and the Bola Tinubu government over the arrest of two leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group.

“It’s a validation of the efforts being made to address the security situation internally and externally. There is much coordination of security efforts from all outfits, and several security challenges have abated.

“The US recognised these efforts as significant. The security clean-up is a continuous effort.”

On US concerns about the judicial system in the country, Mr. Dare said: “Our judicial system continues to address concerns about lengthy pre-trial periods alongside other issues. These challenges are abating, even as the Nigerian government has initiated several judicial reforms to improve Nigeria’s justice system.

“The national summit on justice was declared open in April last year by President Bola Tinubu.’’

On other issues, including the economy, he said: The naira has stabilised. That we can see. The economy is undergoing a recalibration, and we see positive numbers from macroeconomic indicators. The naira will strengthen with time.”

PoliticsSoneye Urges Government To Boost Nigerian Media With Tax Incentives, Duty Relief by Infoguy666(op): 7:27pm On Aug 19, 2025
Former Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), Mr. Femi Soneye, has called on the Federal Government to support the Nigerian media with targeted incentives, including tax reliefs and import duty waivers on essential media tools, Daily Watch Nigeria reports.

Soneye made the appeal in Abuja on Tuesday after receiving the NUJ FCT Excellence in Corporate Communications Award, conferred on him by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.

In his remarks, Soneye noted that while the Nigerian media remains one of the most vibrant in Africa, it continues to grapple with systemic challenges that weaken its effectiveness.

The Nigerian media remains one of the most vibrant in Africa, but it also faces systemic challenges, financial, political, legal, and technological that weaken its effectiveness. The government can play a supportive role by granting tax incentives or relief on import duties for newsprint, broadcast equipment, and digital infrastructure,” he said.

He also urged the Federal Government to establish an independent media development fund to support investigative journalism, community radio, and newsroom innovation, drawing parallels with models in South Africa, the United States, and Canada.

The award underscores Soneye’s long-standing contributions to journalism and corporate communications, as well as his advocacy for a stronger, independent, and sustainable Nigerian media.

The NUJ Executive, led by the Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, described Soneye as a consummate professional who has distinguished himself with tact and excellence in the communications field.

Comrade Ike praised Mr. Sonoye for consistently supporting the union and advancing the interests of journalists both in Abuja and across the country.

“You have always stood with journalists, not only as a media owner but also as a practitioner who understands our struggles. Your advocacy for welfare, training, and ethical reporting has set you apart as an icon in this profession,” Ike said.

She noted that the Council recognized Mr. Sonoye’s role in promoting balanced reporting, welfare packages for members.

PoliticsVigilantes Brutalizes, Strip Female Corps Member Naked In Anambra by Infoguy666(op): 5:21pm On Aug 19, 2025
A disturbing video circulating online shows armed men, reportedly members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, storming a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge in Anambra State and assaulting female corps member Jennifer Edema Elohor along with some of her colleagues in a video obtained by News360 Nigeria.

The footage, shared on Facebook by the Haven 360 Foundation on Monday, depicts the victim being beaten and stripped by the armed men.

According to the foundation, the victims were subjected to physical brutality and sexually degrading threats. The vigilantes reportedly accused the corps members of being involved in internet fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo,” and continued the assault even after the victims presented their NYSC identity cards.

In a statement, the foundation condemned the incident, saying:

“We strongly condemn the brutal assault and violation of the rights of National Youth Service Corps members by operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi or ‘Agunechemba Vigilante Group’ in Anambra State. On July 23, 2025, these state actors stormed the corps members’ lodge, accusing them of being ‘Yahoo people,’ despite their prompt presentation of NYSC identification cards and uniforms. The assault was particularly egregious in the case of Jennifer Edema Elohor, who was beaten, stripped naked, and left exposed and covered in blood. The victims were subjected to unsavoury, horrible, sexually degrading words and actions, including threats of sexual violation.”

The foundation urged authorities to investigate the incident and ensure justice for the victims, stressing the need to protect the rights and safety of NYSC members across the country.

PoliticsTinubu Slashes Dialysis Cost In Federal Hospitals To ₦12,000 by Infoguy666(op): 9:54pm On Aug 18, 2025
President Bola Tinubu has approved a major reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis sessions in federal hospitals, cutting the fee from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000, News360 Nigeria reports.

Daniel Bwala, the president’s spokesperson, disclosed the development on Monday in a post via his X handle.

He explained that the initiative will begin in ten public hospitals before extending to federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across the country.

According to him, the move will bring relief to thousands of Nigerians suffering from kidney-related illnesses, many of whom cannot afford the high cost of treatment.

“The development, which will first commence in ten public hospitals, will provide relief to thousands of Nigerians battling kidney-related diseases, many of whom cannot pay for the dialysis.”

“More federal medical centres and teaching hospitals will be added before the end of the year to widen access nationwide,” Bwala stated.

He further noted that the decision reflects Tinubu’s commitment to improving access to affordable healthcare, recalling that the president had earlier approved free caesarean sections for pregnant women in federal hospitals to reduce maternal deaths.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oba Maduabuchi, has dismissed claims by businessman Jim Okolo over a pending legal dispute, insisting that the matter has already been concluded in court, Daily Watch Nigeria reports.

This comes amidst a judgement from Federal High Court in Abuja, which had dismissed a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Chief Jim Chimezie Okolo, thereby allowing his ongoing prosecution for multiple criminal allegations, including intimidation and attempted extortion, to proceed.

In a ruling delivered by Justice G.K. Olotu in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/197/2021, the court declared that the arrest, investigation, and subsequent prosecution of Chief Jim Okolo by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) were legal and constitutionally valid.

In an interview on THISDAY Live Sunday Talk show with Dr Reuben Abati, Oba Maduabuchi SAN clarified that the judgement was delivered after both counsels were duly notified.

According to SAN “Marshal Abubakar argued the case for Jim Okolo and when the judgement was ready, all of us were contacted on phone and the judgement was delivered."

"So I don’t know where Okolo is getting the idea that the matter is still alive."

"It has completely been dismissed and terminated, so he’s just being mysterious not to know that his case has been thrown out,” he stated.

When asked about the substantive issue between his client and Okolo, Maduabuchi was categorical.

“No, there is no matter, it’s not pending anywhere,” he said.

However, he explained that the only active case involving Okolo is the one filed by the Federal Government.

“That is a criminal prosecution by the Attorney General of the Federation, not by Engr. Emeka Okwuosa, CON. We wrote our petition to the DSS because Okolo and his group had already boasted that the police were in their pocket and would not act against them. "

"The DSS investigated and later forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions. "

"It was established that Jim Okolo knew nothing about the AKK project and was only a goal-digger threatening the life of Sir Emeka Okwuosa."

"That was why the DPP charged him to court on a 17-count charge."

"We don’t have any case with him,” he explained.

Maduabuchi SAN also alleged that further investigations revealed more damaging activities by Okolo.

“When the DSS was investigating, they discovered that he had been parading himself as a member of the House of Representatives for Idemili North/South and using that false claim to collect money from people with promises of jobs."

"This is not somebody that should be taken seriously,” he added.

On claims by Okolo that he secured the AKK contract for Okwuosa in exchange for a $5 million finder’s fee, the SAN dismissed it as “a cocktail of lies and fabrication.”

He said, “Dr. Abati, in the oil industry where contracts of $2 billion and above are discussed, Jim Okolo would not even be allowed near the gate."

"When he was arrested, he claimed one Mrs. Ogbue, then MD of PPMC, helped him secure the contract."

"The DSS invited her and she denied ever knowing him. She worked in the downstream sector and had nothing to do with the contract."

"So how can you secure a contract for someone you didn’t even know at the time?”

Reacting to why some litigants prefer taking cases to the media, Maduabuchi said no serious lawyer would abandon the courtroom for press campaigns.

“There’s no serious lawyer that leaves his chambers to start befriending the press. You do your work in your chambers."

"The lawyers that once represented Okolo, Alex Ejesieme, SAN, eventually withdrew from the case after realizing he had no grounds."

"He is just a goal-digger, a meddlesome interloper."

"Going to the press is only a tactic for people who want to ensnare others."

"He is not a serious human being and should not be taken seriously at all and the Certified copy is here “ he said.

Recall that Justice A.Y Shafa of a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Gwagwalada remanded Jim Chimezie Okolo at the Kuje Correctional Centre for impersonation and job racketeering.

He’s been prosecuted by the AGF on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence, after the DSS investigation of his alleged criminal activities

The offences were contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) and Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act. 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.

Chief Okolo is also facing prosecution in FRN v. Jim Okolo & 3 Ors. (Charge No: CR/109/22), before Justice S.U. Bature of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja. The 17-count charge includes allegations of criminal intimidation, fabrication of evidence, giving false information to mislead public officers, and perjury.

PoliticsNSA Confirms Arrest Of Two Leaders Of Al-qaeda-linked Ansaru Terrorists Group by Infoguy666(op): 9:13pm On Aug 16, 2025
Nigeria has captured two of the most wanted leaders of the Al-Qaeda-linked Ansaru terrorists group, in what authorities describe as a major victory against extremism, News360 Nigeria reports.

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, announced on Saturday in Abuja that a months-long intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of Mahmud Muhammad Usman, known as Abu Bara’a, and Mahmud al-Nigeri, also called Mallam Mamuda.

Abu Bara’a, identified as the “Emir of Ansaru,” was the coordinator of the group’s sleeper cells across Nigeria and a mastermind of kidnappings and terrorist financing operations.

His deputy, Mamuda, led the notorious “Mahmudawa” faction of Ansaru operating around Kainji National Park, and is believed to have received training in Libya under foreign jihadist instructors.

Ansaru, formally Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi-Biladis Sudan, broke away from Boko Haram in 2012 and pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

The group gained global notoriety for high-profile attacks, including the 2022 Kuje prison break in Abuja, the 2013 abduction of French engineer Francis Collomp in Katsina, the 2019 kidnapping of Alhaji Musa Umar Uba, Magajin Garin Daura, the abduction of the Emir of Wawa, and cross-border assaults such as the deadly attack on a Niger uranium facility.

Ribadu confirmed that the arrests, carried out between May and July 2025, have effectively dismantled Ansaru’s central command.

He added that caches of materials and digital evidence seized are undergoing forensic analysis and are expected to provide further intelligence on the group’s networks across Nigeria and the Sahel.

The statement read, "Today, I am glad to inform you that we have successfully concluded a high-risk, intelligence-led, counter-terrorism operation which led to the capture of the top leadership of Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi-Biladis Sudan, commonly known as ANSARU, Nigeria’s Al-Qaeda affiliate.

"The group was first formed in January 2012 with a public declaration in Kano. It emerged as a splinter faction from Boko Haram, positioning itself as a “humane alternative.”

However, its stated aim quickly turned to attacking Nigerian security operatives, civilian communities and government infrastructure.

The group publicly displayed the setting sun logo of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), signaling its ideological and operational alignment with global jihadist movements.

"Over the years, Ansaru entrenched itself in both urban sleeper cells and forest enclaves, across several cities in northern Nigeria and in forest based enclaves particularly around Kainji National Park, straddling Niger and Kwara States as well as Benin Republic."

According to Ribadu, "The targeted operation, which was conducted between May and July 2025, led to the capture of 2 top ANSARU leaders who have been responsible for masterminding several terrorist attacks against Nigeria over the past years: The first is Mahmud Muhammad Usman (aka Abu Bara’a/Abbas/Mukhtar), the self-styled Emir of ANSARU. He is the coordinator of various terrorist sleeper cells across Nigeria. He is also the mastermind of several high-profile kidnappings and armed robberies used to finance terrorism over the years.

"The second is Mahmud al-Nigeri (aka Mallam Mamuda), Abu Bara’s proclaimed Chief of Staff and Deputy. He is the leader of the so-called “Mahmudawa” cell hiding out in and around the Kainji National Park, straddling Niger and Kwara States up to Benin Republic. Mamuda trained in Libya between 2013 and 2015 under foreign jihadist instructors from Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, specialising in weapons handling and IED fabrication.

'These two men have been on Nigeria’s most-wanted list for years. They jointly spearheaded multiple attacks on civilians, security forces, and critical infrastructure. Their operations include the 2022 Kuje prison break, the attack on the Niger uranium facility, the 2013 abduction of French engineer Francis Collomp in Katsina, and the May 1, 2019 kidnapping of Alhaji Musa Umar Uba (Magajin Garin Daura). They were also behind the abduction of the Emir of Wawa and they maintain active links with terrorist groups across the Maghreb, particularly in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.

"The two men, who are wanted internationally, are currently in custody," he explained.

Ribadu stated that the capture of Abu Bara and Mallam Mamuda, the group’s leader and deputy commander respectively, marks one of the most significant achievements to date in ongoing effort to rid Nigeria of the threat of terrorism.

He noted that the successful decapitation of the leadership of this dangerous franchise marks the most decisive blow against ANSARU since its inception.

"The stride has effectively dismantled its central command while paving the path for the complete annihilation of the group.

"The feat undoubtedly exemplifies Nigeria’s advancing counter-terrorism capabilities. The precision operation followed months of deep surveillance, human intelligence, and technical tracking, which demonstrates enhanced sophistication and seamless inter-agency synergy.

"Let me use this opportunity to inform the public that, in the course of the operation, our security forces captured and recovered valuable actionable intelligence. These include a cache of materials and digital evidence which are all now undergoing forensic analysis. The findings from the analysis are expected to support our ongoing efforts to exploit this success, bring them to justice, and completely annihilate the residual of ANSARU networks and disrupt their foreign collaborators."

The National Security Adviser furthter explained that the capture of Abu Bara and Mahmuda signalled the beginning of the end to impunity for terrorist leaders.

He said Nigeria would continue to pursue extremists with precision, resolve, and unwavering determination.

The fight is far from over, but the fall of ANSARU leadership represents a decisive step forward, he noted.

TravelIbom Air: Keyamo Slams Leak Of Passenger Video, Orders Sanction by Infoguy666(op): 9:28pm On Aug 11, 2025
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, has condemned the release of indecent footage showing Comfort Emmanson, passenger on Ibom Air plane, in a video obtained by News360 Nigeria reports.

Keyamo, who directed that whoever released that part of the video among the staff be singled out and sanctioned, said it was unacceptable.

The minister, in a statement, also directed a joint security meeting between relevant agencies next week for better coordination of security measures in such situations.

He stated: “Apart from the indefinite flight ban imposed on the said unruly passenger (both local and international) by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, the police has promptly arraigned her this morning at the Ikeja Magistrates Court for criminal offences and remanded her at Kirikiri prison as she could not provide adequate sureties in court. I have attached the Charge Sheet and Remand Order for clarity.

“We also note the scuffle that took place between the unruly passenger and ground personnel before she was eventually subdued. This was because of her uncooperative attitude. Whilst we support the filming of her recalcitrant behaviour as evidence to prosecute her, what is deplorable is to release such evidence containing indecent exposure to the public to ridicule her. That is totally unacceptable to us. We will not fold our arms and tolerate the debasing of womanhood. I have therefore directed that whoever released that part of the video containing the indecent exposure amongst the staff should be singled out and adequately sanctioned.

“I have also directed that the airlines must continue to train and retrain their staff in public relations and how to deal with potentially explosive situations in order to diffuse them promptly or nip them in the bud, except when it becomes inevitable. I have also directed a joint security meeting between relevant agencies next week for better coordination of security measures in situations like this or similar ones we witnessed recently.

“For genuinely aggrieved passengers, there are clearly laid-down remedies to address grievances. The Consumer Protection Directorate of the NCAA has consistently advertised these remedies and there is no point trying to take the laws into one’s hands that may lead to dire consequences.”

PoliticsTinubu Orders Free Healthcare For Low-income Retirees by Infoguy666(op): 7:23pm On Aug 06, 2025
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the expedited rollout of a free healthcare access initiative for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), Daily Watch Nigeria reports.

The directive was issued after he received a briefing from Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the initiative as a critical component of social protection and dignity in retirement.

In addition to the healthcare initiative, the President also called for the prompt implementation of long-overdue pension increases and a minimum pension guarantee.

These measures are intended to create a safety net for the most vulnerable pensioners under the CPS.

During the briefing, President Tinubu gave a further mandate to the PenCom DG to urgently resolve the longstanding police pension issue.

He emphasised that members of the police force, who have served and protected the nation, deserve to retire with dignity and peace of mind.

Ms. Oloworaran also updated the President on other key initiatives, including efforts to preserve the value of pension fund assets against inflation and a plan to introduce foreign currency contributions. This new initiative would enable Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the pension system.

President Tinubu expressed strong support for the reforms, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and protection for ordinary Nigerians.

The directives follow a briefing from the PenCom DG on a suite of transformative pension initiatives designed to enhance retiree welfare and expand the pension scheme’s reach.

PoliticsMKO Abiola's Wife And Veteran Journalists Doyin Abiola Is Dead by Infoguy666(op): 9:44am On Aug 06, 2025
Dr. Doyin Abiola, a trailblazing Nigerian journalist and former Managing Director of National Concord, has died at the age of 82, Daily Watch News reports.

According to family sources, she died peacefully at 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday after a brief illness.

A pioneering figure in Nigerian media, Dr. Abiola, who was MKO’s wife, was also the first Nigerian woman to serve as both editor and later managing director/editor-in-chief of a national daily newspaper.

Her decades-long career not only broke barriers for women in journalism but also helped shape the editorial landscape of modern Nigerian print media.

Born in 1943, Abiola studied English and Drama at the University of Ibadan, graduating in 1969. She began her career at the Daily Sketch, where her column Tiro gained wide readership for its bold commentary on public affairs, especially issues affecting women.

In 1970, she travelled to the United States to further her education, earning a Master’s degree in Journalism.

Upon returning to Nigeria, she joined the Daily Times as a Features Writer and rose through the ranks to become Group Features Editor. She later earned a Ph.D. in Communications and Political Science from New York University in 1979.

Her career reached a significant milestone in 1980 when she was appointed the founding editor of National Concord, a newspaper established by business magnate and politician Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola. She would go on to become Managing Director of the media group in 1986.

In 1981, she married Chief MKO Abiola, widely regarded as the presumed winner of Nigeria’s annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Throughout her husband’s political struggles and incarceration, Dr. Abiola stood as a symbol of strength and quiet resilience.

Beyond her newsroom leadership, Dr. Abiola contributed meaningfully to journalism education and media development in Nigeria.

She chaired the nomination panel for the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) and served on Ogun State University’s advisory council for the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences.

Her lifelong commitment to excellence in journalism earned her several prestigious honors, including the Eisenhower Fellowship in 1986 and the Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME) Lifetime Achievement Award, making her only the second woman to receive that distinction after Mrs. Omobola Onajide.

She leaves behind a legacy defined by courage, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to truth and public service.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
