Religion / Before You Talk About That Person What Does The Bible Say? by infonancialhub(f): 4:58pm On Sep 13, 2017
A young couple moved into a new neighbourhood. The next morning while eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbour through the window hanging the wash outside.

“That laundry is not clean,” she said. “She doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap”.

Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time the neighbour would hang laundry to dry, the young woman would make the same
comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: “Look, she has learnt how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this!”

The husband replied: “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.”

And so it is with life.

What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Easy to discuss other people, their lives and things that don’t really concern us.

Yet we tend to forget- our window isn’t that clean after all.

Clean up your window with the WORD! (THE TRUTH.)

LORD, please give us the strength, humility and courage that we may work on our faults first rather than seeing the faults in Others and castigating them.

Religion / Should I Trust The Process? by infonancialhub(f): 4:51pm On Sep 13, 2017
He will sit like a refiner of silver, burning away the dross. He will purify the Levites, refining them like gold and silver, so that they may once again offer acceptable sacrifices to the Lord .
Malachi 3:3 NLT

There was a group of women in a Bible Study on the book of Malachi. As they were studying chapter three, they came across verse three, which says: “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. “This verse puzzled the women and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study. That week, this woman called up a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn’t mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot then she thought again about the verse, that “He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.” She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, how do you know when the silver is fully refined? He smiled at her and answered, “Oh, that’s easy – when I see my image in it.”

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

I understand your point Isaac, there will always be misunderstandings between couples, there are better ways to resolve issues rather than going physical, it only makes the matter worst. On no account should a man hit a woman, talk more of the wife, how can you beat yourself, your gift.

Yes, its not an easy journey, but when the foundation of the union is right, when it is Christ centered , and both parties are willing to make it work, it will definetly survive any storm.
Religion / Avoiding A Bad Marriage by infonancialhub(f): 10:38pm On Sep 11, 2017
After salvation, the most important choice you will need to make is who to marry. This choice is so important that if you miss it, you will suffer for long, if you get it right then you will enjoy forever.
A bad marriage can affect every other area of your life. This subject is so important, so many married people are hoping to be single again so as to make the right choice. If you are single please don’t just be in a hurry to get married, you have the best opportunity to prepare for it. For two people to come together to live in peace and harmony, they must agree spiritually, mentally and physically. Just like an elephant cannot marry an ant so also a believer cannot marry an unbeliever. If an elephant marries an ant how would they live, if a goat marries a fish where would they meet? You must look for a godly man or a godly woman to marry, nothing can beat this. The devil’s primary target is the family. He knows that everyone belongs to a family and if he can make two wrong people meet then he has succeeded affecting the community and nations negatively. Ignore your age and the pressure for a moment, the
pressure in a wrong marriage is far worse.

God has somebody for you but you must set your priorities right. What do you need in a woman? What do you need in a man?Marriage is not about what you want, it is about who you need, that will make you better while
you make him better. It is about destiny. That is why you must know your purpose before you
get married. (Genesis 2:18.) You must pray before you choose. God knows the best person for you, it is only wise to seek His will. It is very easy to know God’s will when sex is not involved. The moment sex is involved and you want to know His will then He
will blank you out. Why? Because you have broken His first Law of NO SEX before marriage. If you have had sex in the past then
you need to repent totally and stay away from each other for some time then you can seek
the face of God. Your marriage will not be hell on earth. Your marriage will be honourable in
the name of Jesus Christ.

Don’t marry for sex,
Don’t marry because you are of age,
Don’t marry because you are getting old,
Don’t marry because you are lonely,
Don’t marry because you need someone to support you financially,
Don’t marry because you
mistakenly got pregnant,
Don’t marry because you don’t want to lose the person,
Don’t marry because of family pressures,
Don’t marry because you like
the idea of marriage and admire every wedding gown you see,
Don’t marry because all your friends are getting married.
But
* Get married because you want to fulfil destiny.
* Get married because you want to be a help mate.
* As a man, get married because you want to fulfil your purpose.

God will help you in choosing, please let His will be done. Amen!

Forward to the singles you love. God bless you!

The same traits apply for women too, but the truth is 95 percent of domestic violence comes from the men, thata why I had to write about the men
Religion / 5 Signs Of An Abusive Man You Should Not Ignore by infonancialhub(f): 10:17pm On Sep 11, 2017
The rate of domestic violence reported (as thousands would go unreported) since the beginning of the year is so alarming, every day we wake up hearing such terrifying headlines as this:
Woman Battered and Inflicted with a deep cut by her husband in Lagos.
Man stabbed to death by his wife just after their wedding.
Six months pregnant woman brutally battered by husband.
Man stabs wife to death one month after their court wedding.
These are heartbreaking stories, clearly domestic violence and abuse is on rise, as a matter of fact, nearly three in ten women have experienced physical violence since age 15, one in four married women experienced physical, sexual, emotional abuse by their husband of partner.

It is time to stand up against this mess, it’s time for us to fight against it, and it is time to speak up, don’t die in silence. A lot of women have chosen to stay in a violent relationship or marriage and some end up losing their lives, leaving their children to suffer.

It is better to avoid an abusive relationship, rather than going into and looking for a way out later, most people who find themselves in it are scared to leave, they think their partner will change. The truth is you can’t change the person except the person wants to change, the best you can do for them is to pray for them and let God do the changing.

There are some signs of an abusive man that you should not ignore, and yes this sign is also applicable to women as well so men pay attention.

He is too controlling: He wants to control every part of your life, where you go, what you eat, the clothes you wear, and the friends you should hang out with, he will always check your cell phone, check your chats to know whom you are communicating with, just last week I read about a man who stabbed his wife to death over a text message he saw on her phone. It’s good for a man to be in control but let it not be overbearing, hereby preventing your partner from having a life outside the relationship.
He is Overly Jealous: The truth is if you really love someone you will be a jealous lover, true love protects, shields, no one wants to lose what he or she cherishes, even God is a jealous God. Now when being jealous is too much it becomes dangerous because it will lead to distrust, if he sees you talking or receiving calls from the opposite sex he complains, he says you are cheating on him, gradually unnecessary arguments will come up which is not healthy for the relationship.
He wants to isolate you: He just wants you to himself, he doesn’t want you to have friends or even spend time with them, and he tries to isolate you from the rest of the world.
He Blames you all the time: He is always playing the victim, even when he does something wrong, he blames you for his actions, even for being abusive, never sees any wrong in his actions and never buys your opinion or ideas about things. Your success scares him, he doesn’t want you to be more successful or richer than him, and he feels intimidated.
He has a bad temper: We all get upset sometimes, it’s okay, the most important thing is for you to be able to control your anger and not hurt anyone, even with words too. Whenever you have disagreements with your man and he starts punching walls, breaking plates, television, breaking bottles, yelling insults at you, my darling it’s time to leave that relationship, it’s not a healthy one. Before you know it he will start slapping your pretty face and punching it, and then he will bribe you with gifts or even take you for shopping and crocodile tears, “Baby I am so sorry, you know I wasn’t in my right senses” that’s the normal lyrics. If sweetheart can’t express his feelings without throwing things then something is wrong (and it’s not with you).

If you have noticed this signs in your relationship then it’s time to pack your bags, it’s time to walk away from that relationship, if you are married it is advised that you move out of the house to a place where you will be safe, till the situation gets better, protect your life because it is priority.

Business / 7 Ways To Politely Say No When Someone Asks You For Money by infonancialhub(f): 9:20am On Jul 20, 2017
Learning how to say no, especially to ones you love is never an easy task. This is particularly true when it comes to money.

Unfortunately, as of late, it seems as though everyone around you has something they need money for. Whether they have a new business, project, charity, or fundraiser, it can feel like the requests just keep pouring in.

Sites like GoFundMe and Kickstarter have given people the power to ask for financial help from every connection they have on the internet.

That being said, you can’t give money to everyone and for the sake of your relationships, it’s usually best not to. After all, you wouldn’t want an unpaid loan creating an awkward situation or rift. However, refusing to give someone funds in itself can create an awkward situation, which is why you should tread lightly when doing so.

Here are seven ways to politely say no when you’re asked for money.

1. MAKE IT YOUR RULE
One of the easiest ways to say no is by simply creating a rule for yourself. Tell yourself that your policy from here on out is that you don’t lend money to friends and family. It’s a quick and easy way to handle the situation without leaving yourself feeling guilty.

It’s easier to tell everyone no, than to give to some and not to others. Moreover, by communicating this to your loved ones, they’ll understand that it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with them or their character, but that it’s merely something you don’t do.

2. RESPOND PROMPTLY
Having difficult conversations, like refusing to give someone money, is never fun. Many of us take our sweet time trying to work up the courage to say no in the first place. As hard as it may be to say no to begin with, you don’t make things any easier the longer you wait. One of the best things you can do in these situations is respond promptly to the inquirer.

You’ll come off politer in the situation by simply being considerate enough to answer their request in a timely manner. That being said, allow yourself at least 24 hours to mull over the request, as you won’t come across well if you give the situation absolutely no thought.

3. BE CLEAR, TO-THE-POINT, & POLITE
Beating around the bust only serves to confuse the parties involved and could lead to you giving when your intention was to say no. Be firm, but polite, and concise. Don’t give your friend or family member room to argue in the first place.

Simply say that you’re unable to give at this time, that it’s not feasible for you, or that you’re simply uncomfortable doing so. Don’t give a long drawn out explanation or ramble on, simply state your answer and move on. Again, you’ll get your point across and save yourself and the other party from any confusion.

4. BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU CAN GIVE
If you receive requests on a regular basis, and hate saying no to everyone, a good rule of thumb could be to create a special giving fund. Set aside a certain amount in your budget that you’re willing to give to a good cause or family and friends. After that amount is used up, you can simply explain that your allotted giving amount has been used for the year. By opting to go this route, you can diplomatically decide who you’d like to give to as the year goes, and know if you have any more funds to give.

5. OFFER TO HELP IN OTHER WAYS
In most cases, money isn’t the only way you can help out your friend or family member. There are alternatives way to help someone in financial need depending on their situation. Whether that be offering financial advice, assisting them with their budget, offering your time by helping with their charity or organization, or even providing simple services like providing meals, cleaning house, or babysitting; there’s an array of ways to assist a loved one in any situation.

Moreover, sometimes just being there emotionally for someone in itself can be a tremendous help. Whatever you choose, simply respond by saying that you are unable to give financially, but that you’d love to know of other ways you could be of assistance.

6. CONSIDER YOUR RELATIONSHIP
Whenever someone requests money, one of the first things you should do is consider your relationship with that individual. It’s one thing to consider giving to someone who you’re extremely close to and who you’ve known well for years. However, with the invention of Facebook, it’s not unusual to receive donation requests from mere acquaintances. Don’t confuse a Facebook friend with a real-life friend. Unless you know that person intimately and they’ve been there for you in times of need as well, don’t feel guilty politely declining their request.

7. BE WARY OF DISCUSSING FINANCIAL DETAILS
It can be difficult to turn someone down if you know that they’re aware of your financial situation. If someone feels or knows that you’re well-off, it can leave you feeling pressured and guilty for not wanting to give them money.

However, that shouldn’t be the case, and again, there are times where not giving is better for that relationship. Your best practice is to avoid sharing too much information about your finances with friends and family. No one needs to know how much you make, how much you’ve saved, or what you spend on certain things. Keep those details to yourself, so you don’t give a loved one the impression that a loan from you should be a given.

Being asked for money is simply an awkward situation; there’s no way around it. Being forced to say no, however, can feel even worse. Nonetheless, save yourself and the important relationships in your life, by not being afraid to say no. Be polite and firm and don’t allow yourself to feel guilty for having to let someone down. Trust me, you’ll be happier you did in the long run.

Business / How Laptop Ban’ll Affect Nigerian Travellers by infonancialhub(f): 6:53am On May 22, 2017
Scores of Nigerians travelling to the United States and the United Kingdom through Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia will be affected by the new policy that barred them from carrying their laptop on board aircraft but to be put in hold luggage, New Telegraph has learnt.

Although, Nigeria is not among the countries under ban, but majority who transit through these countries, particularly Turkey, because of proximity to Europe and other destinations, coupled with the cheap fares they offer, would be subjected to laptop scrutiny.

All electronic devices bigger than smart phones would be banned from cabin baggage and can only be carried if packed in checked-in hold baggage. Devices covered by the ban include laptops, iPads, hand-held gaming devices and DVD players, among others.

Items covered by the ban are those longer than 16.0cm, wider than 9.3cm and deeper than 1.5cm. One of the main problems for passengers who are forced to check electronic equipment into their hold baggage is security from theft while they are in the baggage handling system.

A laptop could easily be worth over £1,000; an iPad £500. Most travel insurance policies will not cover articles, which cost so much – especially if they are checked into hold baggage. There is also, of course, the risk of damage from shock while a suitcase is being loaded and unloaded from the plane and baggage belts.

Again, insurance will not usually cover such damage. The best advice, which won’t be helpful for business travellers and many ordinary holidaymakers, is to leave such equipment at home. Some travellers who spoke to this newspaper, especially those who transit through those listed gateways, said it would be a tough one for them as they keep themselves busy while on transatlantic flight.

To them, it also serves as their mobile office during long haul flights. A frequent traveller, Mike Adeniyi, said those who have a stopover in one of the six countries on their way back to Britain will also be affected by the ban, adding that flight routes run by Emirates and Ethiad, for example, are very popular with holidaymakers who are travelling to south-east Asia and Australia.

This new policy is, however, making many of them to choose their connections as they are avoiding those countries in their choice of travel. Meanwhile, major airlines have warned that proposals to extend the laptop ban to transatlantic flights could cost passengers over a billion dollars a year.

Passengers on flights from many Middle Eastern and North African airports are already banned from taking devices larger than a smartphone into the cabin on flights to the US. The Trump administration wants to enforce the same restrictions on flights from some key EU airports, including, it is understood, Heathrow.

Already facing opposition from the EU, the proposals are now under attack from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents 265 major airlines. IATA’s director general, Alexandre de Juniac, has said the plans could cost the passengers dearly, in a strongly-worded letter to US Homeland Security Secretary, John Kelly and European Transport Commissioner, Violeta Bulc.It is estimated that the plans could affect 390 transatlantic flights a day from the EU. de Juniac warned that the plans would have a negative impact on “airline passengers, commercial aviation and the global economy.”

The ban would lead to significant airport delays as airlines struggle to bring in new screening measures. “Businesses will cancel trips rather than risk having laptops checked in due to risk to confidential information,” he added. One of the biggest pinch points, he warned, would be dealing with 3.5 million passengers a year who take connecting flights to the US from EU airports, who had been allowed to use their laptops on the initial leg of the journey. Airlines fear that denying executives the opportunity to work during transatlantic flights would see a significant drop in business class traffic.

Ultimately, this could see airlines cutting flights from their transatlantic timetables. The industry’s warning about the risks of placing laptops in the hold were echoed by a US-based aviation consultant, Bob Mann. “They could be creating far greater dangers than they are solving by putting poorly packed batteries and devices, which are not completely turned off into the hold,” he said.

Politics / Report - Boko Haram Releases 82 Chibok Schoolgirls by infonancialhub(f): 8:56am On May 07, 2017
Boko Haram sect has released 82 of the students abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state, according to Sahara Reporters.

Quoting a military source, the news website said the captives regained freedom following a negotiation between the federal government and the sect.

The source was quoted as saying the girls were in Banki town in Borno state, awaiting airlift to an unknown destination.

President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly said his government was making efforts to secure the release of the girls.

During the third anniversary of their abduction, Buhari urged Nigerians not to lose hope over the girls.

He promised to reunite abductees with their parents.

“We were determined to secure the release of the Chibok girls and others forcefully abducted from their homes and communities and retake the occupied territories,” he had said in a statement issued by Femi Adesina, his spokesman.

“We have had reason to celebrate the return of twenty-four of them and thousands of other Nigerians who were forcibly abducted by the terrorists.

“Furthermore, government is in constant touch through negotiations, through local intelligence to secure the release of the remaining girls and other abducted persons unharmed.

“We have reached out to their captors, through local and international intermediaries, and we are ever ready to do everything within our means to ensure the safe release of all the girls.”

On April 14, 2014, 276 girls were abducted. Out of that number, 81 have regained freedom, while 195 are still in captivity.

Efforts made to confirm report of the latest release did not yield the desired result as Sani Usman, spokesman of the Nigerian army, did not answer calls or reply the text message sent to his telephone, while Garba Shehu, spokesman of the president, promised to get back to TheCable.

Health / 10 Amazing Benefits And Uses Of Peanuts by infonancialhub(f): 12:04pm On Apr 24, 2017
Peanut is a member of the legumes family, like beans, peas, it is known by several names like, groundnut, earth nut, monkey nuts. Thus, unlike its name, peanut is not really a nut but a legume and like most legumes, an excellent plant based source of protein. However, it is often classified as a nut because it possesses all the qualities of true nuts, like almonds. These nuts are enclosed in a hard wrinkled outer shell or pod which contains two or sometimes, three kernels. The seeds are egg shaped and their size depends upon the cultivar type. The shell has to be broken to eat the seed inside. These seeds have a thin brown skin and can be split into two parts like other legumes

Peanuts is very rich in a variety of nutrients like Vitamin E, folate, niacin, manganese and protein, peanuts are considered a cheaper substitute for other nuts like almonds, pistachios, cashews, pine-nuts and walnuts, it has variety of health benefits which are as follows:

1. Prevents Diabetes:

According to a recent study, a serving of peanut can lower the risk of diabetes by 21%. This can be attributed to the presence of manganese, a mineral that plays an important role in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, calcium absorption and blood sugar regulation.

2. Good for Heart:

The high levels of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats in peanuts help to keep your heart healthy. Oleic acid, in particular, helps to lower the LDL or “bad” cholesterol and increase “HDL” or good cholesterol level in the blood. Thus, they prevent coronary artery disease and strokes by promoting healthy blood lipid profile.

3. Prevents Cancer:

Legumes like peanuts have a high concentration of a form of phytosterol called beta-sitosterol (SIT). These phytosterols protect against cancer by inhibiting tumor growth. A research conducted in the United States observed that men and women who consumed peanuts at least twice a week respectively had 27% and 58% lower risk of getting colon cancer.

4. Improves Memory:

Peanuts are often called the “brain food” as they contain Vitamin B3 or niacin which improves brain functioning and boosts memory. They also contain a flavonoid called resveratrol which helps in improving blood flow to the brain by 30%.

5. Prevents Gallstones:

Consumption of peanuts can help prevent gallstones. According to studies, eating an ounce of peanuts or peanut butter can lower the risk of developing gallstones by 25%.

6. Help Fight Depression:

Serotonin is one of the key brain chemicals involved in mood regulation. Inadequate secretion of serotonin by the nerve cells in the brain is responsible for causing depression. Peanuts contain an amino acid called tryptophan which aids the release of serotonin, thus helping you fight depression. It can further raise serotonin anti-depressant effects when there is an increased serotonin formation in the blood.

7. Aids Weight Management:

Though it appears strange, regular consumption of nuts is associated with lower risk of weight gain. The combination of fibre, fat and protein content in peanuts makes them a high satiety food. Thus, they can keep you full for longer and thus lowering your appetite. They are also good sources of energy and help in increasing the metabolic rate. All these properties contribute to weight loss.

8. Beneficial in Pregnancy:

Peanuts are a good source of folate. Certain studies have shown that women who consumed 400 grams of folic acid before or during early pregnancy had up to 70% lower risk of having a baby born with neural tube defect. Eating peanuts during pregnancy can also lower the risk of allergic diseases, like asthma, in children.

9. Clear Skin:

The heart healthy monounsaturated fats and resveratrol play an important role in providing you with a glowing skin. Toxins can cause breakouts and excess oil on your skin. The high content of dietary fibre in peanuts helps in flushing out excess toxins, thus making your skin clear and flawless.

10. Prevents Hair Loss:

Peanuts contain Vitamin C which assists in the production of collagen that keeps the tissues of our hair together. Besides, they contain I-arginine which is used in the treatment of male pattern baldness while omega-3 fatty acids strengthen our hair follicles and promote hair growth.

Business / Four Places You Should Not Use Your Debit Card Abroad by infonancialhub(f): 11:35am On Apr 24, 2017
When using debit cards to shop abroad, it can either provide foreign exchange currency to the tourist through the Automated Teller Machine or pay for items in shopping malls through the Point of Sale machine.

Debit cards allow the owner access to only the balance available in his account.

Pearl was on a visit to the United Kingdom and had plans to buy some items while on holiday. She had visited some boutiques and paid for many things she bought with cash until she had no more forex; so, she continued her shopping, using her debit cards on the PoS, because she might need some cash to pay for certain items, Pearl decided to enter into a banking hall in the shopping mall to withdraw some forex from the ATM.

Unfortunately, the ATM swallowed the only debit card she took with her to the UK without giving her the required cash. Pearl went to the complaint desk of the bank to present her problem. She was told to go to her bank to get the card.

She complained that her bank was in Nigeria and there was no way she could reach the bank, but the bank official insisted that she should send an email or call the bank.

Pearl said she would be stranded without the debit card because she had no cash with her and that it was the only card she was using to do everything in the UK.

She pleaded with the bank to open their ATM machine and bring out her debit card as she had no other option to get money.

The bank official decided to consider her plea and took her to an office where she was attended to by another employee.

After several efforts to get it out for her, the employee asked her to provide her means of identification, which she did not hold with her.

Pearl had to rush to the train station and she used her oyster card to enter a train back home to pick her international passport before the bank would close for the day. When she got back to the bank, she showed her passport and her debit card was returned to her.

Many tourists’ debit cards had been swallowed by the ATM abroad but were not as lucky as Pearl, especially when they used the ATMs that were not within the banking hall where anyone could promptly lodge a complaint.

If a tourist must use his debit card to withdraw money from an ATM abroad, it is advisable that he should have another debit card usable abroad as a substitute.

While the use of debit card can give easy access to purchase anything the buyer wants, it can also cause some headache when things go wrong.

Depending on where a person is using the debit card, the selling firm may put a hold on the money, which can take the bank some days to free.

Again, if a person buys an item abroad with his debit card and returns it to the store, the store can only return his money to the debit card. In some instances, the money hangs and he may not get it back when he returns to his country. This may require him lodging a complaint to his bank to rectify the problem.

An online report by http://mycwcu.com gives some tips on how to use a debit card.

You can be devastated if your bank account is emptied. The online report suggests that you should open a second account and tie your debit card to it.

It adds that you should fund the second account only with money that is used for debit card activity so that your principal account won’t be at risk in the event of a breach.

According to BankRate.com, there are four places people should be wary of using their debit cards:

*Independent ATMs – People run the risk of falling for the tricks of scammers. Scammers are less likely to be found around an ATM within a bank premises because of the presence of security officials and surveillance cameras.

*Pay at the pump – Scammers are not the only danger to wallet. The filling station will put a big hold on an account that could cause cheques to bounce. If a person must pay with debit card at filling station, he should go inside and pay at the cashier.

*When buying online – Credit card is a much better option. If a person doesn’t get his goods, he can do a chargeback during a 60-day window.

*At a restaurant – Because there is such high turnover at restaurants, a person does not want a dishonest employee to get hold of his digits.

Politics / 7 Things You Did Not Know About Osibanjo by infonancialhub(f): 9:06am On Apr 19, 2017
You know him as Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, but his parents know him as Oluyemi Oluleke.Today he is 60 years old, and no longer the son of a single family but a father to the millions of households in Africa’s largest country.

It is his diamond jubilee, and like diamonds, Osinbajo has had his fair share of the heat of life, which translates raw carbon to pure, glittering diamond.

Having followed Osinbajo for many years, The Cable presents seven things you probably never knew about the professor of law, pastor, and development expert.

BECAME A LECTURER AT 23

We all know Osinbajo as a professor of law, and its a no-brainer, he must have lectured law, but what many do not know is that he began to lecture at the tender age of 23.

He taught law at the University of Lagos. Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, was one of Osinbajo’s students in his days at UNILAG.

BORROWED TO PAY HIS SCHOOL FEES

The one who borrowed can now pay for thousands

You probably know Osinbajo studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, but you did not know he borrowed to pay his way through.

Speaking on politics and the responsibility of governance, at a conference back in 2011, Osinbajo shared his experience as a student.

“A few years ago, as a student in a British University, I couldn’t pay my fees because my cheque had not come from Nigeria. That time, the CBN used to have a lot of trouble with remitting funds and all that, and my fees were about two months late,” he had said.

“So I spoke to the university counsellor, and she said, ‘why don’t you go to a bank and ask for money?’ And I thought, how can I just go to a bank and ask for money, when I don’t have any money at all?

“She said go speak to them, explain to them that you will pay back. So, I went up to the bank, and explained that I will pay back. I met a lady across the counter, I didn’t go into any office, I didn’t speak to the manager, and she looked at the ledger and saw I had no money.

“She said, ‘when are you expecting your money?’ I said maybe another five, six weeks. She said ‘okay’, and she handed me £600 and I paid my fees with the £600 and of course, when my cheque came, I paid it back.”

BECAME A PROFESSOR AT 33

In 1994, he became a professor of law, and four years later, he was appointed head of the department of public law at UNILAG.

But the academic entered the professorial cadre in 1990, when he was only 33 years old.

NEVER RODE A NEW CAR TILL 1998

Long before he became vice-president, Osinbajo told some members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where he is a a pastor, that he never rode a new car for the first 41 years of his life.

“Until the year 1998, I never used a brand new car. I graduated in 1979 by the way, and I started teaching at the age of 23,” Osinbajo revealed.

“I entered the professorial cadre at 33, I did not use a brand new car till 1998. Always tokunbo. Where would I even find the money? It was always Tokunbo, but God preserved me, he saved me.

“He preserved me that I did not go and put my hands into things that I should not. Today, I get three gifts of brand new car, every year. Sometimes, I would have to say, ‘it’s ok’.”

Now he can as well drive as many new cars as he wishes — but he says he will not put his hands where he should not.

THE GOLDEN PROMISE TO HIS MOTHER

Sweet Mother
You also know Buhari-Osinbajo rode to power on the promise to bring reforms to Nigeria, what you perhaps didn’t know is that Osinbajo promised his mother that the government he will be part of, will reform the power sector.

Speaking at the Bola Tinubu colloquium in 2015, Osinbajo narrated how he went to break the news to his mother that he will be running for vice-president. He said he expected her to express reservations, but that she only offered a prayer, and said: “You must solve this NEPA problem.”

The acting president said he told his mother that reformation of the sector would be one of the priorities of the government, if they win.

Now, you know why Osinbajo is so keen on the power sector — for Nigerians, and for his mother.

‘NO NATION CAN DEVELOP WITHOUT HOURLY PAY’

Osinbajo has always held the belief that no nation can develop without hourly pay. This is even long before he turned into a key player in the nation.

“There is no nation on the face of the earth, and I stand to be corrected, that has been able to develop a first world economy without hourly pay; it is not possible. Time is the measure of money,” he had said at a leadership conference in Lagos.

“If there is no hourly pay, we can get to work when we please and decide when we leave. One of the reasons the Chinese are so effective is because of their work ethics.”

He said it was Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former minister of finance, who did a study on Nigeria and China, and found out that the “average Chinese worker is six times more productive than the average Nigerian worker”.

Nigeria may expect an hourly plan from the acting president — if he has his way.

SAM ADEYEMI’S PROPHECY

Sam Adeyemi, senior pastor Daystar Christian Centre
Osinbajo himself may not remember this day, but back in 2011, at the Excellence in Leadership Conference organised by Daystar Christian Centre, Adeyemi prophesied that Osinbajo and a number of others at the conference “will be leading the nation not too long from now”.

Adeyemi said: “There are people here who will lead this nation out of its current situation, there are people here who will lead this nation to greatness.

“When we aspire for political power, or when we are in position of authority, we would remember those principles, we would set those principles as objectives, and by God’s grace we would achieve.”

Today, Osinbajo is not just in power, we can say he is at the peak of power.

Business / Tips On How To Identify Fraudulent Bank Emails by infonancialhub(f): 8:57am On Apr 19, 2017
Fraudulent bank Emails

Internet fraudsters are desperately devising different techniques to confuse customers of banks who make use of electronic system in order to have access to their funds and swindle them. One major way is to intercept their online transactions to get information about the account holders.

Often times, they send junk mails to a large number of customers using logos similar to the original banks and wait for the customers to respond to such emails.

An unsuspecting customer may think the email is from his bank and if he discloses any information concerning his account, he may fall victim to the fraudsters.

Some of the junk emails usually come in this pattern: ‘Dear esteemed customer, you would have to confirm you are an active account holder with us by following the procedures from your X bank account. Thank you for choosing X Bank.’ The fraudsters go on to send some emails, which they could use to track the customers’ accounts.

It is necessary for an account holder to know that his bank’s employees or agents will never call or send an email to request for his passwords, card number, card expiry date or Personal Identification Number. Customers should always log on to the internet banking service through the bank’s website or registered mobile App. They are enjoined to always ignore any message that is not sent directly from his bank’s website. The correct website of the bank is usually written on the debit or credit cards with you.

An online report on the subject by www.technewsworld.com <http://www.technewsworld.com/> gives more tips on how to identify bogus banking emails.

Fraudsters, it says, work by embedding dummy Trojan software on your personal computer, or by getting you to visit fake websites to enter personal details, or by capturing personal details directly from your computer (now extended to cell phones). The emails are often hard to spot and can look like they come from common financial institutions and social networks.

Here are stop steps to take if you suspect one.

*Notice the red flags

Red flags include requests for personal information such as banking details and password changes; prompts to click on links or download attachments; and requests from institutions you don’t already have a relationship with. Treat any red flag emails with caution and proceed to the next steps. Warning: Don’t click on a link within an email if you have any doubt as to the legitimacy of the message.

*Don’t panic

Be wary of alert-style text within emails that suggests your security has been compromised and that the embedded link you are being urged to click on will fix the problem. This is a pressure technique that instils a sense of urgency; just as you would in entering a common purchasing transaction, take time to evaluate. Look for language that implies something onerous will happen if you don’t click on the link within the email message –for example, that your account will be closed. Look for bad grammar, strange capitalisation or spelling mistakes. Legitimate companies usually put efforts into catching mistakes before releasing an email. Peculiar text can be used to circumvent spam software.

*Look closely at links

Place your mouse over the common language link in the email again, without clicking on the link to see if the link’s web address is repeated within the status bar on the browser or email client. A legitimate link will echo the text in the message. For example, the link in a message from the XYZ Bank will read https://www.xyzbank.com/link, or similar, rather than http://somethingelsefakebank.com/link or similar, or a series of numbers, called an “IP address,” like http://192.111.111.111/link, or similar.

*Check the header

Check the sender’s actual address in the message header against “from address.” The displayed ‘from name’ is easier to fake than the sending mail address.

The actual addresses should match, or the sending mail address should clearly originate from a legitimate institution sending a message.

Legitimate institutions will not send downloadable email attachments unless you have already entered into a dialogue with them about it. Never download attachments with “.exe” extension.

*Take the high road

Browse to the sender’s website directly. Do this by manually entering the web address root in a web browser address bar. Then, use the website’s navigation to find the information referred to in the email message. If the email message was legitimate, the contents will be available at the website too.

When browsing, check the browser’s address bar for the correct institution’s address for example, XYZ Bank. Even if the web address has the bank’s name, it may not be the bank’s website. For example, XYZBankSecure.net is not the same as XYZ Bank.com.

*Good riddance

Delete the bogus email message.

Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia state governor, has secured a $1.5bn deal for the establishment of a shoe industry in Aba from Huajian Shoe Industry in Dongguan, Guangzhou, China.

Enyinnaya Appolos, chief press secretary of the governor, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to him, Ikpeazu secured the deal at a meeting with Zhang Huarong, group chairman of the Huajian Group in the course of his official visit to China for the 1st Nigeria-China Governors Investment Forum.

Appolos explained that the Abia-Huajian Shoe Industrial City would have the capacity to produce 5,000 shoes per day and employ about 10,000 people directly and indirectly.

“Abia state government will provide the land and other investment incentives for the project while the Huajian group will fund the entire project,” he said.

Celebrities / I Have No Intention Of Visiting Marvis Parents Says Efe by infonancialhub(f): 7:28pm On Apr 17, 2017
In a new interview with Punch, winner of the Big Brother Naija TV show, Efe Ejeba, opened up on his stay at the house, what he feels now for Marvis, the allegation that he stole the ‘Based on Logistics’ slang from another artiste and his relationship with Debbie-Rise,

See excerpts from his interview below;

On his relationship with Marvis:

“I only kissed Marvis because that was the only thing I wanted to do. I respect women and I cannot afford to be fooling around with them.

For me, kissing shows a little bit of emotion but if it goes beyond that, it means we are taking it to another level and that is why I did not go beyond that. I admitted in the house that I like her but I always knew that it would only last within the house because she has a boyfriend.

At first, I thought she was not serious when she said she had a boyfriend but when she said she was serious, I had to be cool.”

Asked if he wishes to visit Marvis’ family:

“I cannot go to Port Harcourt because that is where she is based. We all know how her father is, so I have no intentions of going to Port Harcourt or going close to the place.

I don’t have a girlfriend. My priorities are different and I am not moved by women but that does not mean I am gay. Never.”

On his relationship with Debbie-Rise:

“I was never really interested in Debbie Rise and when she came to the house, it was my duty to make her feel comfortable. In the house they told me I had to improve on my niceness because they felt I am not too nice but I tried my best.

She took the vibe on a different level so I had to let her know that it was not what she thinks. Her guitar really got on my nerves and I had broken it like 200 times in my mind. Every day I set my eyes on the guitar, I broke it in my mind.”

On claims that he stole the ‘Based on Logistics’ slang from another artiste:

“I am sure that those who said that I did not form the slang just want me to talk. They just want to cause a controversy. A lot of things have been said online that is not true. I coined that word in 2013 when I went for ‘Just Bring it On’ reality show.

I won N300,000 on the show. I coined the word because they were having a lot of logistics issues in setting us up because we stayed in the house for two weeks. Each time the guy came to meet us, he would say they had some logistics problem so before he tried to explain to us, I would tell the housemates that the matter was based on logistics in that previous show.

The show was organised by Kevin Pam, winner of Big Brother Africa 2009.”

The #BBNaija winner revealed that the show gave him the opportunity of getting on a plane for the first time.

“The first time I got into an aeroplane was when I was travelling for the show and I was really shaking. It was a terrifying experience for me when we were ascending and descending. My flight was from Lagos to Abuja and from Abuja to South Africa.

The South Africa trip was worse because there was turbulence. There was a man who was chatting with someone and during the turbulence; he was thrown away from his chair. I had to tighten my seat belt and clinch to the chair.

That was how I was all through the flight.”

Asked how he intends to spend the cash prize, the winner who previously dished on that, regurgitated his favourite line:
“Based on logistics, I would spend the money based on logistics.”

Politics / Re: Obasanjo Attacks National Assembly. by infonancialhub(f): 7:24pm On Apr 17, 2017
Yes our leaders are not living by example, we really need a real positive change in this country
Politics / Obasanjo Attacks National Assembly. by infonancialhub(f): 7:14pm On Apr 17, 2017
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a fresh attack on the national assembly, describing it as a “den of corruption”, which is occupied by “unarmed robbers”.

Obasanjo, who recommended that the ongoing anti-graft war in the judiciary be extended to the legislative arm of government, said the corruption in Nigeria’s parliament “stinks to high heavens”.

He said this on Wednesday during the First Akintola Williams annual lecture in Lagos.

“If the judiciary is being cleaned, what of the national assembly which stinks much worse than the judiciary?” he asked.

“The national assembly cabal of today is worse than any cabal that anybody may find anywhere in our national governance system at any time. Members of the national assembly pay themselves allowances for staff and offices they do not have or maintain.

“Once you are a member, you are co-opted and your mouth is stuffed with rottenness and corruption that you cannot opt out as you go home with not less than N15 million a month for a senator and N10 million a month for a member of the house of representatives. The national assembly is a den of corruption by a gang of unarmed robbers.

“Most of them conduct themselves and believe that they are not answerable to anybody. They are blatant in their misbehaviour, cavalier in their misconduct and arrogant in the misuse of parliamentary immunity as a shield against reprisals for their irresponsible acts of malfeasance and/or outright banditry.”

He wondered why the legislative arm of government had chosen not to be transparent with the nation’s budget.

Obasanjo also condemned the “gang up against the whistleblower”, obviously making reference to Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman of the house of reps appropriation committee.

Jibrin had accused the leadership of the 8th assembly of padding the 2016 budget, calling for the probe of principal officers.

He also petitioned anti-graft agencies, but the house eventually handed him a 180-day suspension for alleged misconduct.

Obasanjo appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene, and purged the parliament of corruption.

“Budget padding must not go unpunished. It is a reality, which is a regular and systemic practice. Nobody should pull wool over the eyes of Nigerians,” he said.

“Ganging up to intimidate and threaten the life of whistle blower is deplorable and undemocratic. What of the so-called constituency projects which is a veritable source of corruption? These constituency projects are spread over the budget for members of the national assembly for which they are the initiators and the contractors directly or by proxy and money would be fully drawn with the project only partially executed or not executed at all.

“The national assembly budget process is not only carried out in opaque and corruptive manner but also in grossly unconstitutional manner. Hence, our lawmakers are lawbreakers. They are the accused, the prosecutor, the defenders and the judge in their own case.

“We should not continue to live with the impunity and corruption of the national assembly. Yes, I believe that something can and should be done. The president should ride on the crest of the popularity of what is happening in the judiciary to set up a highly technical team of incorruptible investigators to look into the so-called constituency projects of the past and the present and bring culprits to book. The president has overall responsibility and accountability for any fund appropriated under his watch. There would be many of such projects and the national assembly would try to frustrate such necessary investigation. But the project sites are known and magnitude of funds voted for them are known. The investigation will reveal the true situation.”

Obasanjo said when he was in office, he attempted to audit the account of the assembly but he was frustrated.

“Once, when I was president, I asked outside auditors, both normal and forensic, to audit the account of the national assembly, they frustrated it on the basis of separation of power,” he said.

“They claimed they had oversight responsibility for their corruption and misdemeanour and nothing can be done. It is like asking a thief to watch over himself. There must be full disclosure of all relevant fiscal information in a timely and systematic manner at all levels,” he said.

He commended the federal government for its effort to “save the judiciary”, recalling an experience he had with a retired public officer.

“Three weeks before the first three judges were arrested for corruption, I was talking to a fairly senior retired public officer who put things this way, ‘The judiciary is gone, the national assembly is gone, the military is sunk and the civil service was gone before them; God save Nigeria’. I said a loud Amen,” he said.

“Three weeks later, the process of saving the Judiciary began. And if what I have gathered is anything to go by, there may be not less than two score of judicial officers that may have questions to answer. That will be salutary for the Judiciary and for the nation.”

This is not his first attack on lawmakers. In a letter dated January 13 and addressed to the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives, the former president specifically accused the lawmakers of fixing and earning salaries and allowances far above what the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission approved for them.

He also alleged that most of the 109 senators and 369 members of the house of representatives were receiving constituency allowances without maintaining constituency offices as the laws required of them.

Efforts to reach spokesmen of both chambers of the national assembly for a reaction to the latest allegations did not yield any result as the telephone line of Aliyu Abdullahi, senate spokesman, was unreachable, while Abdulrazak Namdas, house of reps spokesman, did not answer his call or respond to the text message sent.

Business / 10 Tips For Protecting Your Debit Card From Fraud by infonancialhub(f): 6:56pm On Apr 17, 2017
How well do you keep your debit card (ATM card)? Would you give anyone access to your bank accounts, unfortunately you are doing just that when you keep your credit cards carelessly, debit card takes money directly from your account, which makes them juicy target for fraudsters. Here are few tips that will help you protect yourself from card skimming or any form of fraud.

1. Update Your Bank Information Regularly: Update your the contact information (i.e. mobile number, e-mail, address, etc.) that you gave to the bank regularly. This will make it faster for the bank to notify you of any suspicious transactions.

2. Be smart with online transactions: Shop with credible merchants and look for secure transaction symbols like the “lock” icon on your browser that starts with “https”. Avoid using public hotspots for online payments, log out from a site properly after you make a purchase, if you can’t log off close your browser to protect your personal information.

3.Do a regular Check: Check your account balance and transaction history regularly. If you see anything suspicious, immediately report it to the bank. Review account statements from your financial institution or credit union when you get them, or better still sign up for electronic banking to get secure online access to your account day or night. Report any problems or questions, including transactions you think may be unauthorised, right away. Again, quick action can limit misuse and save you money.

4.Keep your PIN a secret
You are advised to memorise your PIN, and never write it on your card or store it with your card. Do not let anyone else enter your PIN for you. Don’t give your PIN over the telephone. No company or person should ever ask for your PIN, not even your bank or credit union. If you use your debit card to make a purchase by phone, never disclose your PIN. Always keep your PIN a secret?)

5.Don’t wait
If your card is lost or stolen, report it to your financial institution right away. By notifying your bank or credit union immediately, you reduce the chance that your card will be used improperly. Even better, you limit your potential liability – translation: the money you actually lose – for unauthorised transactions by scammers or hackers.

6.Watch your email
Email is probably the most common method of identity theft and electronic fraud. Don’t provide your debit or credit card number, PIN or other personal information in response to an unsolicited email or online request. Electronic security pros recommend different PINs for different accounts. And it’s a good idea to change your PINs often.

7. Be Vigilant: Be vigilant of your surroundings when approaching and using an ATM. Make it a habit to cover your hand and pin pad as you enter your PIN on the ATM.
8. Destroy Old cards: If you receive a new card, make sure to destroy your old one. Make sure to cut across the magnetic strip and destroy the chip.
9. Protect your card
If the magnetic stripe on the back of your card is damaged or demagnetised, the “swipe and buy” process cannot work. So don’t expose your card to magnetic objects, dirt and grit, keys or other objects that can nick the stripe.

10. If you’re planning to use your card abroad, let the bank know your travel dates and destination.

Nairaland / General / 1.7 Million Nigerians Became Jobless In Nine Months —NBS by infonancialhub(f): 6:35pm On Dec 25, 2016
The harsh economic situation in the country has thrown 1.7 million Nigerians into the job market in nine months, a report from the National Bureau of Statistics has indicated.

The unemployment report, which was obtained by SUNDAY PUNCH on Friday, covered January to September this year.

Specifically, the report showed that the number of unemployed Nigerians rose from 9.48 million at the beginning of the year to 11.19 million by September ending.

The report also indicated that while the number of those employed rose marginally from 69 million at the beginning of the year to 69.47 million by September ending, the labour force population rose by 2.18 million from 78.48 million to 80.66 million.

The report said that unemployment was highest for persons in the labour force between the ages of 15-24 and 25-34, representing the youth population in the labour force.

For instance, it said the unemployment rate was highest for those within the ages of 15 to 24, rising from 21.5 per cent in the beginning of the year to 25 per cent as of September ending this year.

For the 25 to 34 age group, the unemployment rate, according to the NBS report, increased from 12.9 per cent at the beginning of the year to 15 per cent as of the end of September.

It noted that unemployment and underemployment were higher for women than men in the third quarter of 2016.

For instance, it said while 15.9 per cent of women in the labour force were unemployed as of the third quarter ending this year, a further 22.9 per cent of women in the labour force were underemployed during the period.

On the other hand, the report said 12 per cent of males were unemployed in the third quarter of 2016, while 16.7 per cent of males in the labour force were underemployed during the same period.

“Given that the nature of rural jobs is largely menial and unskilled, such as in agriculture and the likes, unemployment is more of a concern in urban areas where more skilled labour is required.

“The unemployment rate in the urban areas was 18.3 per cent compared to 11.8 per cent in the rural areas, as the preference is more for formal white collar jobs, which are located mostly in urban centres,” the report said.

Meanwhile, financial experts have warned that the huge preference for imported items by many Nigerians, if left unchecked, could worsen the unemployment situation.

The Acting Director, Trade and Exchange Department, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Woritka Gotring, said the problem could be better managed with the patronage of made in Nigerian products.

He said the resilience of the informal sector was what had been reducing the impact of the economic crisis on Nigerians.

Gotring said if not for the resilience shown by the informal sector where a lot of people were engaged in various economic activities, it would have been very difficult to manage the economic crisis.

He said despite the fact that a lot of people in the informal sector were employed in one form of economic activity or the other, the infrastructure gap in the country was limiting the potential of the sector.

In order to enable the country to conserve its foreign exchange, he called for policy consistency that would encourage capital flows and promote local production, fiscal discipline, enhancement of local manufacturing capacity and import substitution.

Gotring said, “Foreign exchange rate is one of the most important means through which a country’s relative level of economic health is determined.

“The slump in global oil prices has hit Nigeria hard plunging the country into recession. It is evident that the economy is going through tough times with a decline in inflows and continuous demand pressure on foreign exchange arising from high import bill.”

Also, the President, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Tony Ejinkeonye, called for an aggressive diversification of the economy to reverse the unemployment situation in the country.

He said aggressive diversification of the economy through agriculture and solid minerals was vital as it would help to create more jobs for the people and reduce the level of poverty in the country.
