Even at this point, this thread hasn't hit up Front Page.

What are the moderators doing?

Are they Sleeping?

Such historic, educative and informative thread and as well entertains.

Quite an informative thread; the type that makes me glad to be a Nairalander.

If only bridges could talk, imagine with what tales the 1st Niger Bridge would regale us!

...of a prime minister cut down in his prime, just weeks after commissioning the bridge,
of merchants scurrying frenetically to and fro, buying goods from Eko to sell across the Niger,
of an internecine war that took millions of innocent souls,
of the bridge's bombing in 1968 during the war,
of jackboots trampling across to scuttle the people's democratic aspirations,
of democracy restored and hope renewed,

and finally,

of a concrete interloper rising from the waters to take the shine off its greyed glory.

This photo shows a ferry preparing to cross the river from Asaba to Onitsha in 1959.

This was before the construction of the 1st and the 2nd Niger Bridges.

Man! See those classic cars in that photo.

Strange to think that everyone in the photo is probably already dead and gone.

No wonder!

I've also noticed that most ChatGPT answers sound uncannily like Google search results.

NaijaphiliaBlog:

Not surprising, since Google has actually been using Atificial Intelligence for its search service, via RankBrain, Neural Matching, BERT and MUM.

Since 2015, when Google introduced its first AI into search named RankBrain, Google has continued to deploy AI systems to better understand language and thus improve the search results Google presents to its searches.

Clarion call on all Nigerian youths: Go and get your PVCs!

NaijaSamurai:
We really need to pray for God to help us out in this country.

Nigeria's resources and potentials are far greater than the sad reality being experienced by the common man.

The 2023 elections provide an opportunity to vote in leaders that will positively change the narrative of corruption, insecurity, nepotism and poverty.

43 years and counting... World's longest serving president...

What kind of record is this?

...It is a shameful record.
Politics / Re: World’s Longest-serving President Wins Re-election by IngeniousFunso: 2:29pm On Nov 27, 2022
Longest ruling president..not a good record to hold.

Yet he still won about 95% of the votes in this month's election.

Don't they have any opposition parties in Equatorial Guinea?
Travel / Re: 5,000 Km Road Linking 6 African Countries From Algiers To Lagos Is Nearly Ready by IngeniousFunso: 10:40am On Nov 23, 2022
Nice one.

This is what Africa needs.

NaijaphiliaBlog:
The “African Unity Road” is a highway that will link 6 African nations, improving transport and delivering high-speed internet across the continent.

At Guezzam, on the border between Algeria and Niger, the last section is now nearing completion.

Conceived over 50 years ago, the Trans-Saharan Highway runs almost 5,000 kilometres from Algiers to Lagos in Nigeria. Its goal is to strengthen regional integration and promote trade between the north and south of the Sahara.

The road is also lined with thousands of kilometres of cable as part of another multinational project: the Trans-Saharan Fibre Optic Backbone.

It's really a terrible tragedy.

I wonder how the families of those dead workers would be feeling right now.

YourHerbalOrgan:
you use them like a slave where they work their ass off and still pay them peenuts that could barely last them for 2months.as if that's not enough, they lost their life in the process...RIP to the dead.
