Health implications of Rising Damp

Its true if you have damp and mould in your property you

will be more likely to suffer from respiratory problems

including allergies, infections, asthma and immune

system problems.

How mould and damp can affect your health

Moulds produce allergens (substances that can cause an

allergic reaction), irritants and, sometimes, toxic

substances. Inhaling or touching mould spores may

cause an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, a runny

nose, red eyes and skin rash. Moulds can also cause

asthma attacks.


THOSE MORE AT RISK ARE:

Babies and Children.

Elderly People.

People with existing skin problems, such as eczema.

People with respiratory problems, such as allergies

and asthma.

People with a weakened immune system.

Damp and Mould are a health hazard to these people.

Can A Damp Room Make You Ill?

Sleeping in a room with mould is almost guaranteed to

make you ill, even if it takes quite a bit of exposure for

the signs and symptoms of something wrong to manifest physically.

As alluded to earlier, the more you are exposed to mould

the more your risk factors grow of dealing with

respiratory issues including asthma, difficulty breathing,

and other more serious complications that could prove to be life-threatening.

On top of that, damp rooms are generally quite moist and

chilly which has an adverse impact on your overall

immune system, too. While we all sleep better when we

are cool and dry research has shown time and time again

that when we are cool and damp we struggle to fight off

illnesses, viral infections, and bacterial attack.

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR ROOM HAS DAMP

The odds are pretty good that you’re going to know

straightaway if your bedroom feels damp just by entering

the space and spending a little bit of time in it.

The air in a damp space is going to have a different feel,

a different smell, and a different atmosphere altogether

than a space that is dry, warm, and more inviting. The

human body is simply hardwired to recoil a little bit when

exposed to environments that aren’t the healthiest, and

you’ll feel it deep down in your bones the moment that

you enter into a space that is a bit damp.

Of course, just because you are in a damp space does

not necessarily mean you are in a room that’s filled top to

bottom with mould or bacteria.

Sure, mould and bacteria absolutely loves damp spaces

to establish themselves, to multiply, and to grow – but

these conditions alone aren’t going to help foster and

support mould growth.

If you’re worried about mould establishing itself or having

established itself in a damp headroom you’ll want to

move forward with mould testing kits or a professional

mould test conducted by experts to better understand

exactly what you are up against.

Hi NLanders and Engineers.
Good evening.
this structure was built in December 2019.
I noticed the room is always moisty,
When the room windows and door is shut... The glass sweat from inside.
Now it's the roofing(decking), just this part of the decking.
The room is well ventilated but since no occupant the windows and doors are always shut.


Above the decking is completely tiled and two brand new water tanks are sitting untop.


What could this imply?

Good morning from the pictures am seeing it shows that there's a broken water pipw somewhere if not it either it is housing your water tank or something, cos there's seepage into the slab. Call your plumber to check the pipes and if its your water tank it should be relocated ie a scaffold should be erected for your water tank.


Once these 2 steps are taken allow the DECK to dry naturally, it may take about 4weeks plus to have a properly dry deck and you're sorted.

The dampness is from the ground. I don't think a good Damp proof membrane was used from the onset. You may not find a permanent solution to this problem other than to just keep managing it.
