The mobile telephone network giant MTN has announced they will be giving free international calls and SMS to their Nigerian customers in the diaspora due to the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

MTN noted that this offer would support their customers to stay in touch with their loved ones in Ukraine by eliminating Ukraine’s high cost of international telecommunications regulations (ITR) to Ukraine’s direct international dialing (IDD)

We understand that some of our customers in Ukraine have experienced challenges to contact their loved ones. As a result, we have stepped in with support to ensure that our customers, both at home and in Ukraine, can still connect with family and friends. Our customers will benefit from the waived SMS and voice call fees to and from Ukraine. This blanket waiver has been put in place to respond immediately to the need.

We’ve worked closely with our industry body GSMA to make the connection easier. While MTN does not have operations in Ukraine, we have heeded the call to remain responsive to our customers in their time of need,” the statement reads

An internal memo obtained from MacRumors claims technicians will soon be able to access the new true depth camera service part that contains the face ID sensor.

Apple said the new apple service Toolkit diagnostic will help the technicians to determine if the entire module is to be replaced or if the same Face ID unit needs replacing on broken devices.

There is no specific date when this development will be available to the public as the report claims Apple will release documentation and supposed training at a later date.

This Android malware BRATA will Steal your data and wipe your device

Android is the most common Os people uses, as of 2021, the total number of android users is over a 2.5billion active users spanning over 190 countries. This makes it easy for hackers to get their prey very easily.

There is a new malware called BRATA that is reported to infect Android devices, steal banking details and factory reset the affected device as a kill switch after every successful hack.

BRATA was first spotted by Kaspersky back in 2019 as an android RAT(remote access tool) that was targeted at only Brazilian users. Now, the malware has been updated to the latest version and has added the GPS tracking feature and the factory reset ability and as well updated with different variants to target e-banking users in the UK, Poland, Italy, Spain, China and Latin America.

According to reports from bleeping computer, the new malware has also been updated to evade antivirus scanner, key log, and factory reset.


How do I stay safe?

BRATA malware evades antivirus scanning apps, so the best way to avoid being infected is to be very careful about the apps you give permission and device admin privileges. Also, make sure you don’t download apps from external sources, Always download directly from the play store to be safe.

Whatsapp is reported to be working on a new feature that allows android users to move their WhatsApp chats to iOS.
This feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta version 22.2.74 for iOS and appears to work In hand with the Android beta version 2.21.20.11 with the Move to iOS app

WaBetainfo also shared a couple of screenshots that show that the app will ask for your permission before it starts migrating your chat history.

Last year September, WhatsApp released an update that allow the Samsung galaxy owners and those with pixel phones to migrate their chats histories from iOS to android. Allowing users to move their chats will be a great development but we can’t tell which device will be supported the coming update.

There have been different misconceptions about moving chats between both iOS, some claim since google drive has the feature to backup chats on android, why not allow the iPhone users to have access to these google drive backups?

The world of technology keeps advancing and evolving and smartphone's connectivity is not left out as we have smartphones that are 5G enabled. That's not a bad invention, but the simple question is; does your Network provider support most of these connectivity bands?!

I remember specifically when Glo launched 4G, they made use of band 700 (28)band which is very rare on any smartphone or MiFi available at that time. That band suffered many users, myself inclusive. However, the release of Glo MiFi that uses the band 700 (28)band saved the day. Although, they later switched to a more popular band that supports all smartphones.

So, it's a pain in the ass when your smartphone has 4G features and it is restricted by your Network provider.  for instance, some specific devices can now make calls over 4G but their Network provider does not support such protocol called "VoLTE".

4G LTE and VoLTE

4G LTE is an advanced connectivity protocol with a single channel dedicated for data purposes and cannot make calls during the early Era of its invention.

When you receive calls while on 4G, It switches back to 3G for the call features to work and it switches back to 4G for data. However, VoLTE was later enabled to make calls on 4G LTE and many Network providers are switching to the protocol.

I know you may want to what the term VoLTE implies?

The VoLTE simply means voice call over LTE you use data to make calls. It has advantages over normal calls because it gives better call clarity.

In Nigeria, network providers that support VoLTE are just a few and if you think the 4 biggest network providers in Nigeria support the VoLTE, then you are wrong �

Now to the crux of this discuss-why you can't receive calls on 4G device. If you have been following my story from the beginning, you will possibly know why you can't make calls on 4G LTE.

If sometimes you experience issues trying to receive calls, or people complain that your mobile number is not always reachable. Then you need to know why.

If you use LTE frequently for data, you might have set your phone to use 4G only and this must have caused the issues raised in the preceding paragraph. It is simply because when someone calls in, your phone won't be able to switch from 4G to 3G to receive the call. Same way if you can't call out while on 4G.

How to fix this issue!

Go to your phone settings, check network settings, choose Auto mode instead of 4G only.

With this simple information and setting when next you want to receive a call while browsing with 4G, your network will automatically switch to 3G to receive the call. Cheers!

Multichoice has planned to take over Netflix with a new content strategy they called “hyper-local”, according to the CEO calvo mawela.

This was unveiled in an interview on CNN connecting africa. Mawela pointed Multichoice’s locally-focused content strategy for its traditional satelite and online broadcasting platforms.
“We have invested a lot in local content across the continent – we call it going hyper-local,” Mawela said.
He said that MultiChoice plans to make local content a much bigger part of its catalogue over the next few years.
“We Spend over R2 Billion investing in local content production across the whole continent and our aim is to increase the goal from a composition of 38% to 45% in the next 2 years” Mawela said.

Multichoice Plans To Compete With Netflix

Mawela made ambitious plans for multichoice stating that the company is expected to double its subscribers. Multichoice subscribers is around 20million and mawela said multichoice is looking forward to grow the subscribers quickly upto 50million.
He added that these subscribers are fans of the company’s local content strategy and that multichoice african content will allow it to challenge netflix in the streaming market.

“If we specify on going hyper-local that is a key differentiator, meanwhile the likes of netflix and other streaming platforms, they will come and have some level of local content but i’m not sure they will get to the level of localisation that we do in terms of different languages across the globe” Mawela Said.
