Ilorin - The Labour Party has suspended the party’s state executive council in Kwara State, reports Daily Times. The decision to suspend the council was taken after members of the executive were found to be ineffective and greedy. Lagos - Abdulsalam Olayinka, has been arrested and remanded in prison for allegedly raping a 14-year-old orphan on Valentine’s Day. Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias of the Ikeja of Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered the suspect remanded in prison and adjourned the case till February 24 for ruling on the bail application. The suspect was said to have committed the act when he went to his friend's house on February 14 at 5, Olanrawaju St., Agege area of Lagos state. The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the suspect did not meet the friend, went on to rape the girl as she was the only one at at home. Badagry -Oye Famoyegun, the Deputy Comptroller of Badagry Meduim Prisons, on Friday denied rumours that prisoners being conveyed to a court in Lagos escaped after their vehicle was involved in accident. Famoyegun said that the incident happened around Mile 2 in Amuwo Odofin Local Government area of Lagos State He, however, said that it was not an escape attempt as reported in some quarters, but an accident. The deputy controller said that the driver conveying the prisoners to court rammed into a students union vehicle where about seven casualties were recorded. “The driver conveying the prisoners was at fault because he rammed into a students union vehicle so there was an accident. “There was nothing like prison break or attempt by prisoners to escape,’’ he said. Abuja - Former aide of Goodluck Jonathan, Ojogbane Adegbe, has refuted reports brought forward by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission that involve corruption, The Whistler reported. The reports further allege Adegbe was arrested by the EFCC and was forced to reveal information that would make Nigeria boil. His attorney, Ogwu Onoja, has described these allegations as are highly sensational and false. An apology has been demanded for the strong allegations. Lagos - Police Assistant Commissioner, Osung Ekpo, drowned to death while celebrating Valentine's Day with friends at popular hotel in the Ajah area of Lagos, Daily Post reported. Details of the drowning are still sketchy and his corpse has been since been deposited to the morgue. Lilongwe - Four people, who were brought before a court in Malawi's Phalombe town after they were found with the bones of an albino person, have been sentenced to four years in prison. Nyasa Times reports that the four included three men and one woman - Starford Chimenya, 45, Kondwani Patrick, 38, Rose Kumpama, 39, and Petro Jezemani, 33, who is a Mozambican citizen. "The four got nabbed some weeks ago and they were being kept at Phalombe police station as they waited to appear before court to answer charges of being found in possession of human bones," Malawi24 quoted Phalombe police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi as saying. Yola - A stray dog on Saturday in Yola, went berserk, biting a policeman on duty. A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occurred at the popular Police Round-About area of Jimeta. An eye witness, Tizhe Joseph, told NAN that the dog, suspected to be ‘mad’, was being pursued by a crowd when it came face-to - face with a policemen in uniform, and bit him. It attacked a policeman in uniform attached to state anti- robbery squad, who was approaching it (dog) from the front. "The dog bit the policeman on his right leg. The animal was however killed by the people pursuing it and the policeman, advised to hurriedly go for anti-rabies vaccine,” Joseph said. NAN however gathered that as people trooped to have a glimpse of the dead animal, a man believed to be a dog meat eater, appeared with a sack, took the remains of the dog and walked away, as the crowd watched with shock. |
