Let us reverse the situation If this happended between two commoners will EFCC call it stealing? We would not say the man was a thief because the money was in his account, but he should have inquired for the real owner for morality sake. He could not have withdrawn all the money at once, could he; in today banking system in nigeria? May God help us. |
PUBLIC SECURITY Public security can be said to be the protection of citizens, organizations and institution in a given country against threats to their nation. It is the responsibility of government and public institutions to address possible threat in advance and use most economical measure to reach or attain public security. This paper seeks to point out some reason for Nigeria’s failure in public security and proffer or suggest some possible solution. In record times the crime rate within Nigeria has become so alarming and catastrophic that some part of the nation has become a death zone. Vice like arm robbery, suicide bombing, kidnapping etc. has made so much headline that the people of Nigeria don’t sleep with their both eyes close. Public security is currently at its lowest rating in Nigeria and public confidence in government to secure the lives and properties of the citizen is eclipsed by the constant horror narrated in the news media as criminal elements carry out their inhuman deed. The justice system in Nigeria does not help matters where cases that are against public security are treated with kid’s glove and the snail speed process of dispensing justice makes the public dreadful of the courts. The unwillingness of the executive to clamp down on corruption gives voice to the public perception that government does not care about them. The down turn of the economy also worsen the case as most individual especially in the rural areas live far below the standard poverty line hence will do anything to make ends meet. Public security in Nigeria can best be described as a fail venture as the government has not effectively addressed possible threats to pubic security let alone adequately protect its citizens. I think the government will do well to better equip the existing enforcers of the law, increase their motivation and renumeration so that there would be greater willingness on their part to enforce the laws legally. Also I think the political class should attend to issue of public interest with moral responsibility and develop a sort of a human face to the matters that bother on public security. The high level of politicizing of the social and economic issue that affect the nation, in my opinion should be stopped so that issues can be looked at objective and best acceptable solution can be found to matters like the hydra-headed Boko-Haram terrorism so that the public can feel secure again. |
Fashola Says He Would Have Become A Postmaster Newly-appointed minister of works, power and housing, Babatunde Fashola has explained that he would have become a postmaster instead of delving into law. The immediate past governor of Lagos state, who made this revelation during a mentoring programme for youths organised by Young Business Leaders of Nigerian (YBNL) in Lagos. According to Fashola, he could not get a job after graduating from University of Benin (UNIBEN) but his father presented him with the opportunity to work with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) at a time when working as a postmaster was a dream job. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Nigeria’s minister of power, works and housing. The former governor would however refuse to bow to frustration as he opted to pursue his career as a lawyer, despite the fact that being a postmaster would have presented him with great opportunities. During the event in Lagos, he said: “I had a different passion and that was being in the courtroom; I therefore had to go for my dream to find a job that would help my career. It took me a while before I could get a job and that meant I was jobless for several months after NYSC.” While bemoaning the shabby state of Nigeria’s education, the new minister hailed the business leaders’ initiative in training young entrepreneurs to ensure positive change in the country. “I am happy to see young people doing great things in their various areas of business. The better Nigeria, we hoped for begins with us,” Fashola said. In his reaction to Fashola’s appointment, Dr Frederick Fasehun, the leader of Yoruba nationalist organisation, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), described the three-in-one ministerial portfolio as ‘overfeeding’ for the former governor. He believes, however, that Fashola’s image will be further enhanced if he embarks on the mass provision of low-cost housing for the poor and other programmes that will improve the living standards of the average Nigerian. Health security in Nigeria talk about protecting the well being of people in Nigeria by “preventing”, “detecting” and “responding” to public health threats. It is the activity required to preventing through reducing the vulnerability of people in Nigeria, detecting by discovering new, acute or rapidly spreading risk to health, responding by preparing for and tackling public health threats and reducing the risk of these threats in Nigeria. This paper explores some of the reasons for the problem in health security and proffer solution on how to tackle the problems as it concern the Nigerian state. The problem of health security in Nigeria is the level of literacy of the populace; the people of Nigeria know little or nothing of the risks to healthy hence don’t know how to prevent such risk and they would rather respond only after there has been an incident, most of the times their respond is not adequate as the majority of the populace still rely on traditional health care solution over the conventional health care solutions. The government of Nigeria also contribute to insecurity in health care delivery. The lack of adequate facilities in government owned health care institution is compounding the issue as health scientist in Nigeria cannot effectively carry out health security. Also in cases were a risk is identified effective sensitization becomes another hindrance. The arms of government that is charged with the responsibility of information dissemination and sensitization failed in their constitutional responsibility thereby making the people ignorant of developments that affect their health. Though Nigeria has an effective mass media yet her people still lack adequate information about risk to health in terms of health security I believe Nigeria can do more in the area of health security by providing more budgetary allocation to the health section. Most of the health institution in Nigeria whether federal or state owned are not well equipped to face health security and play a proactive role in the security of health of their people I think most of the common diseases that had caused severe problem in some parts of the country can be better prevented if there had been an early detection government unit that is well equipped and motivated to go into the rural communities to carry out researches to determine the safety or otherwise of these generally shared community facilities that could constitute health hazard. |

What is the reason given by the GOV to stop prayers in schools? Hw does He plan to stop the occultism, gangsterism and witchcraft manipulations going on in the state even under his nose? Let him not invoke the wrath of God on his state by allowing satanism to flourish unhindered in his state. Let him not think he can do without the daily prayers of this children in the state, it will be his waterloo. Such a directive is satanic. |
