The Sojourner, a visual storytelling brand by Chris Daramola, is dedicated to documenting truth, culture, and everyday life through photography. Each frame captures human experiences, vibrant cultures, and the hidden beauty of everyday moments—from intimate portraits to lively street scenes and cultural festivals. Through this work, we preserve stories that might otherwise go untold, sharing the rhythm, color, and spirit of life. Guided by a belief in the power of photography to inspire and connect, The Sojourner brings audiences closer to the people, traditions, and moments that make our world remarkable.

Beyond the Eyo Festival, I’ll be sharing images from other cultural events I captured in 2025, including the Ojude-Oba Festival in Ogun State, the Osogbo Festival in Osun State, and the Olojo Festival at the Ooni of Ife Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State. I also explored Nigeria’s rich history and heritage at sites like Erin Ijesha Waterfall, Freedom Park in Lagos, Point of No Return and Gberefu Island, the Badagry Slave Museum, and other slave relic museums in Badagry.

Oh, and I almost forgot—I’ll also be sharing my challenging (and slightly awful) experience trying to get to Benin Republic to document the Vodon Days (Voodoo Festival), which took place from January 6–10, 2026.

Each image captures stories of culture, resilience, and tradition—moments that deserve to be seen, remembered, and celebrated. Stay tuned for more!

Culture2025 Eyo Festival: Through A Photographer’s Lens by irririchris(op): 11:46am On Jan 13
Dear followers, on December 27th, 2025, the streets of Lagos Island came alive with a symphony of white robes, rhythmic chants, and ancient mystique.

As a documentary photographer, I had the profound honor of immersing myself in the Adamu Orisha Play - better known as the Eyo Festival - a Yoruba celebration that's as mesmerizing as it is sacred. This iconic event, last held eight years ago, revived the soul of our city in a whirlwind of cultural splendor.

Picture this: towering figures draped in flowing agbada of pristine white, their faces veiled behind intricate aropale (hats), staffs in hand like guardians of forgotten realms. The Eyo masquerades, each representing ancestral spirits, glided through the crowds with an ethereal grace, their movements a dance between the living and the divine.
Originating from the historical roots of Iperu-Remo and unique to Lagos since 1854, this festival isn't just a spectacle - it's a tribute to the departed, a marker of life's milestones, from royal coronations to solemn farewells.

Through my lens, I captured the raw energy: the thunderous beats of gangan drums echoing off colonial-era buildings, the sea of spectators in vibrant aso-oke, and those fleeting moments of quiet reverence amid the chaos. The air was thick with incense, laughter, and the unspoken bond of community - reminding us why Lagos pulses with such unyielding vibrancy. This wasn't just an event; it was a portal to our heritage, a reminder that in the rush of modern life, traditions like Eyo keep our stories alive. Swipe through these images to feel the magic I witnessed firsthand. What's your favorite cultural festival? WebmastersElon Musk Unveils Grokipedia: A Bold, Ai-powered Alternative To Wikipedia by irririchris(op): 3:31pm On Oct 28, 2025
In yet another ambitious move, Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia.com, a new platform designed to rival Wikipedia. Developed under his AI company, xAI, Grokipedia is positioned as a smarter, more open, and bias-free alternative to the world’s most visited encyclopedia.

What Is Grokipedia?

Grokipedia is powered by Musk’s AI model, Grok, which is already integrated into X (formerly Twitter). The goal is to create a living, evolving knowledge base that combines the speed and intelligence of AI with real-time updates and broad access.

According to Musk, the platform is “fully ”open”—meaning anyone can access, use, and contribute to it at no cost. Whether you’re a researcher, developer, educator, or simply curious, Grokipedia promises to be a useful, unbiased source of information.

Why It Matters

Wikipedia has long been the go-to source for quick facts, but critics argue that it sometimes carries bias, limited transparency, or outdated moderation methods. Musk aims to address these concerns with:
– AI-assisted fact generation
– Open contributions
– Faster updates
– Transparency in source attribution

The Media War

Wikipedia has already responded. It created a Grokipedia article on its own platform—highlighting allegations that Grokipedia is copying Wikipedia’s content and promoting far-right viewpoints to favor Elon Musk’s narratives.

With both platforms standing their ground, the battle between traditional crowdsourced knowledge and AI-powered information has officially begun.

Who will win this media war? Time will tell.

Technology MarketSwiss Church Creates AI Jesus To Interact With Church Members by irririchris(op): 12:26pm On Dec 05, 2024
In a captivating blend of technology and spirituality, Peter's Chapel in Lucerne, Switzerland, has launched a groundbreaking project called "AI Jesus." This innovative initiative invites visitors to engage with a digital avatar of Jesus, powered by GPT-4 technology from OpenAI, within the confessional setting. The AI Jesus, fluent in over 100 languages, offers spiritual guidance and engages in meaningful discussions about faith, love, and morality.

The "AI Jesus" project is part of an experimental art installation titled Deus in Machina ("God in the Machine"wink. Created by researchers from the Immersive Realities Research Lab at Hochschule Luzern and theologian Marco Schmid, the installation seeks to explore how artificial intelligence can intersect with religious experiences. By placing a holographic representation of Jesus in the confessional booth, the project invites participants to reflect on their beliefs and experience spirituality through the lens of modern technology.

Through this fusion of sacred space and AI, the initiative challenges conventional notions of faith, offering a unique opportunity to engage with technology in a deeply spiritual context.

Over two months, around 900 conversations took place between visitors and the AI Jesus. Many people returned for multiple interactions, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Transcriptions of these conversations, which were kept anonymous, revealed that about two-thirds of participants felt a genuine spiritual connection during their exchanges with the AI.

Users described their interactions with the AI Jesus as comforting and insightful, often finding answers to personal questions or guidance on challenging life circumstances. Upon entering the confessional booth, visitors were greeted by the holographic Jesus with a warm “Peace be with you, brother,” inviting them to discuss whatever was troubling their hearts.

For some, this modern twist on confession was a meaningful and even transformative spiritual experience. However, others dismissed the installation as a gimmick, expressing skepticism about the role of technology in sacred spaces.

The AI Jesus project has ignited a broader conversation about the role of AI in religious contexts. Critics have raised ethical concerns about the implications of relying on technology for spiritual guidance. Some argue that the use of AI in such a personal and sacred setting could diminish the authenticity of traditional practices, potentially leading to shallow or superficial engagement with faith.

On the other hand, supporters of the project see it as a way to make spiritual exploration more accessible and inclusive. The AI Jesus offers a non-judgmental space for those who may be hesitant to seek traditional forms of guidance or confession. It also opens up a new avenue for individuals to explore their faith in an interactive and contemporary way, breaking down barriers that may have previously kept people from religious spaces.

Technology MarketThe Latest Developments In Google’s Antitrust Battle With The U.S. DOJ by irririchris(op): 3:44pm On Nov 26, 2024
DOJ vs. Google: Key Developments in Antitrust Battles
The ongoing legal confrontations between the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Google have taken significant turns, with two major antitrust cases targeting Google's search engine and advertising technology businesses. These cases could reshape not only Google’s future but also the landscape of the tech industry as a whole.

Judge’s Ruling and Proposed Remedies
In a landmark decision, Judge Amit Mehta ruled in August 2024 that Google holds an illegal monopoly in the search engine market. This ruling has set the stage for the DOJ to propose a series of remedies designed to curb Google’s dominance. Among these measures are:

Ending exclusive contracts with companies like Apple and Mozilla that make Google the default search engine.
Forcing Google to divest its control over the Chrome browser and the Android operating system.

Behavioral and Structural Solutions
The DOJ is exploring a mix of behavioral and structural remedies. Behavioral changes would require modifications to Google’s business practices, while structural remedies could involve breaking up parts of the company. These actions aim to prevent Google from using its current products to sustain its monopoly, particularly in the face of new technologies like generative AI.

Advertising Technology Antitrust Case
Closing Arguments and Allegations
In a separate case focusing on Google’s advertising technology, the DOJ has accused the company of unlawfully dominating online advertising markets. The government alleges that Google has "rigged the rules" to maintain its monopolistic position, harming both advertisers and publishers in the process.

Potential Consequences
Should the court side with the DOJ, the outcome could be monumental. Google may be required to sell off its ad management tools or other parts of its advertising business. Judge Leonie Brinkema, who presided over the trial, is expected to issue her ruling soon.

What’s Next?
Framework for Remedies
The DOJ plans to present a detailed framework for remedies in November 2024, after which Google will have the opportunity to propose its own solutions by December. A subsequent trial to evaluate these proposals is scheduled for April 2025.

Implications for Big Tech
These antitrust battles mark a critical juncture in the government’s efforts to regulate Big Tech and restore competition in markets dominated by giants like Google. The rulings could lead to transformative changes in how tech companies operate, potentially leveling the playing field for emerging competitors while ensuring fairness for advertisers, publishers, and consumers.

As these cases unfold, all eyes remain on Google and the broader tech industry, awaiting decisions that could shape the digital economy for years to come.

Technology MarketSamsung Chairman Jay Y. Lee Faces 5-year Prison Sentence Request Amid Appeals by irririchris(op): 7:40pm On Nov 25, 2024
South Korean prosecutors have called for a five-year prison sentence and a 500 million KRW fine (approximately $375,000) for Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee during an appeals court hearing on November 25, 2024. This development follows Lee's acquittal ten months ago, alongside 13 former executives, on charges related to stock price manipulation and accounting fraud linked to a controversial 2015 merger of Samsung subsidiaries. The merger allegedly solidified Lee's control over the conglomerate.

The appeal focuses on claims that the merger between Samsung C&T (the construction unit) and Cheil Industries (the textile affiliate) was conducted to benefit Lee's personal interests at the expense of minority shareholders. Prosecutors argue that this approach undermines the integrity of the capital market and risks setting a harmful precedent for corporate governance in South Korea, particularly concerning chaebols—family-controlled conglomerates that wield significant economic power.

A ruling on the appeal is expected between January and February 2025. The case is considered a critical juncture for Samsung, which is currently navigating challenges such as declining profits and falling stock prices. It also highlights South Korea's broader push to reform corporate governance practices.

Lee has consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the merger followed standard operational procedures. However, prosecutors assert that leniency in this case could embolden further unlawful practices in corporate restructuring, raising the stakes for both Lee and Samsung's future.

BusinessRussian Court Hits Google With An Unprecedented $20 Decillion Fine by irririchris(op): 11:33pm On Oct 30, 2024
RBC reports that a Russian court has fined Google $20 billion for blocking 17 YouTube channels belonging to local TV networks.

The imposed fine is more than Google's $2 trillion market value and the World Bank's estimated global GDP of just over $100 trillion. The fine will continue to compound until YouTube unblocks the channels suing it, the report adds.

The issue dates back to 2020 when YouTube blocked Tsargrad TV after the US imposed sanctions against its owner. At the time, the court had ordered a daily fine of 100,000 rubles ($1,025) per day, with the total amount set to double every week the fine was unpaid.

Things escalated after YouTube blocked more channels following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. A total of 17 channels sued Google, and the court's latest order was passed after calculating the fines for each.

"Google was called by a Russian court to administrative liability under Art. 13.41 of the Administrative Offenses Code for removing channels on the YouTube platform. The court ordered the company to restore these channels," lawyer Ivan Morozov told the state-owned TASS news agency.

Technology MarketStarlink Lowers Prices In Nigeria Following NCC Directive by irririchris(op): 3:38pm On Oct 28, 2024
Starlink, the satellite internet provider owned by SpaceX, has rolled back its recent price hikes in Nigeria, just three weeks after Nigeria’s communications regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), blocked the increase.

The company had initially doubled the cost of its standard residential plan (which includes a 1 TB fair usage policy), raising it from ₦38,000 ($24) to ₦75,000 ($48). Roaming customers faced even steeper price hikes: local roaming, which enables customers to use Starlink kits outside their registered location in Nigeria, jumped from ₦49,000 to ₦167,000 per month, while international roaming soared to ₦717,000 monthly.

The revised pricing was scheduled to take effect on October 31st. Elon Musk explained on X (formerly Twitter) that Starlink’s subscription fees were being adjusted for inflation. However, Nigerian regulators maintain strict pricing guidelines for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and have previously blocked other ISPs from increasing data prices.

In a statement shared with TechCabal, the NCC confirmed that Starlink had failed to secure regulatory approval for the price increases. The commission cited violations of “Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA), 2003, and Starlink’s License Conditions regarding tariffs.” The NCC instructed Starlink to reverse the price hikes or face potential sanctions.

Technology MarketLinkedin Launches Free Verification To Combat Fake Recruiters by irririchris(op): 8:25pm On Oct 26, 2024
LinkedIn is making strides toward its ambitious goal of verifying 100 million users, with over 55 million accounts already verified since the service launched in April 2023. Unlike X and Meta, LinkedIn offers verification for free, marking a significant investment for the company as it combats fake accounts and recruiter scams—a long-standing issue on the platform, according to Axios.

AI advancements like ChatGPT have made it easier for bad actors to create fake profiles, heightening the need for reliable verification. Users can verify their profiles through work email addresses at select companies or by using government-issued IDs via LinkedIn’s verification partners, Clear and Persona, with LinkedIn covering the cost.

With a target of reaching 100 million verified users by 2025, LinkedIn’s investment reflects its commitment to maintaining trust and transparency. Microsoft, which acquired LinkedIn in 2016 for $26.2 billion, continues to support these efforts to build a safer, more authentic professional networking experience.

CrimeFG Drops Money Laundering Charges Against Binance Executive Tigran Gambaryan by irririchris(op): 12:11pm On Oct 23, 2024
The Federal Government has officially dropped all money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan, an executive at Binance Holdings. This decision was announced on Wednesday during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Gambaryan had been facing trial for approximately six months following his arrest in Nigeria. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which was prosecuting the case, stated that the charges were withdrawn because Gambaryan is merely an employee of Binance and not involved in the company's broader financial decisions. His lawyer, Mark Mordi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), concurred with the prosecution's stance.

Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen, had previously been denied bail twice due to concerns that he might flee. The withdrawal of the charges is believed to have resulted from extensive diplomatic discussions between Nigerian and U.S. officials.

Since his arraignment in April, Gambaryan had been held at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja and was absent from court on October 18 due to health concerns. He faced five counts of money laundering and currency speculation involving up to $34.4 million alongside Binance.

In a separate case, Binance is also dealing with tax evasion allegations in another court proceeding.

The person above has done justice to the question; these are just additional suggestions:

1. Choose the Right File Format. (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or SVG)
2. Compress the Image (Use tools like TinyPNG, ImageOptim, JPEGmini, or Squoosh to reduce the file size.)
3. Optimize Image File Names:
Before uploading images to your website, rename the file with relevant, descriptive keywords.

Use descriptive keywords that relate to the image content and the page it’s on.
Separate words with hyphens (-), not underscores (_), because search engines treat hyphens as word separators.
Avoid using generic names like IMG_12345.jpg; instead, use something like red-leather-handbag-brand-name.jpg.

Foreign AffairsBrazil's Supreme Court Insists X Must Pay Over $5 Million In Fines by irririchris(op): 12:20pm On Sep 28, 2024
Brazil's Supreme Court insists X must pay over $5 million in fines

According to a court document, Brazil's Supreme Court stated on Friday that social platform X still needs to pay just over $5 million in pending fines, including a new one, before it can resume operations in the country.

Earlier this week, the Elon Musk-owned U.S. company informed the court that it had complied with orders to stop the spread of misinformation and requested the platform ban be lifted. However, Judge Alexandre de Moraes responded on Friday, ruling that X and its legal representative in Brazil must agree to pay 18.3 million reais ($3.4 million) in fines previously ordered by the court.

The judge also mentioned that the court could access frozen resources from X and Starlink accounts in Brazil, but this would require Musk’s satellite company to drop its pending appeal against the fund freeze.

Additionally, Moraes imposed a new 10 million reais ($1.8 million) fine for a brief period last week when X became accessible to some users in Brazil despite the ban. X, formerly known as Twitter, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A source close to X stated that the tech firm will likely pay all the fines but may challenge the extra 10 million reais imposed after the platform ban.

In his ruling, Judge Moraes acknowledged that X had complied by blocking the required accounts and appointing the legal representative in Brazil.

We hope a positive resolution is reached for all parties involved.

CrimeTelegram Has Agreed To Share Your Phone Number And IP Address If You Are A Crimi by irririchris(op): 4:08am On Sep 26, 2024
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has announced that the platform will share user information with law enforcement when users are suspected of illegal activities. This decision comes after Durov’s arrest by French authorities for failing to cooperate in investigations related to illegal activities on Telegram.

In a significant policy shift, Telegram will now share user IP addresses and phone numbers with law enforcement in response to valid legal requests, reversing its previous stance that all chats were private. This change follows CEO Pavel Durov's arrest in France for allegedly facilitating the distribution of child sexual abuse material and other crimes. Durov stated that a team of moderators has been actively removing unsafe content and that updates to the platform’s search function aim to discourage criminal activity.

Durov, a French citizen, was arrested on August 28 after arriving in Paris from Azerbaijan. French prosecutors accused him of failing to provide information to police about illegal activities on Telegram. While Telegram previously faced bans in Iran and Russia for its refusal to comply with authorities, Russia later lifted its ban. In the aftermath of Durov's arrest, Telegram asserted that he had nothing to hide and deemed it "absurd" to hold the company accountable for users violating its policies.
