Politics / Why Atiku Abubakar Didn’t Pick Wike As Running Mate: Personal Opinion by italkmoses(m): 2:44pm On Jun 16, 2022
Atiku Abubakar finally picks a running mate- Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa. Surely didn’t see this coming, my guess was Gov. Emmanuel Udom from the list the screening committee shared. To my mind, a Wike would have pulled more weight but what do I know?

Well, I think Atiku didn’t pick Gov. Nyesom Wike probably because as a hot head, he’ll be too hot to handle as Vice President. I hope he doesn’t withdraw his support from PDP because he has suffered the biggest bruises- lost the Presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar and now losing the VP slot to Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa. Maybe post-election appointments would pacify him should PDP win the presidential elections.

Let’s see the card APC will play & hope for a Labor Party and NNPP merger.

Interesting times ahead.

Politics / Suggestions On How Peter Obi Can Win 2023 Presidential Election. by italkmoses(m): 9:28pm On Jun 12, 2022
By Moses Ilemona Ihiabe.

If we must be frank, Peter Obi has become the darling of Nigerian Youths. People who genuinely do not bother about any recognition from him are printing banners with their own money and many others sponsoring several campaign initiatives. This is a semblance of the sort of nationwide appeal PMB enjoyed in 2014, if not even more. This is quite commendable and Peter Obi must now seize the moment to capitalize on this growing momentum.

If he is serious about winning, he MUST consider picking a very popular Vice Presidential Candidate from the North. My suggestion would be Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso.

On top of that, the entire South East must unite and give 80% of their votes to their brother this time. Then, LITERATE Nigerian Youths, Men & Women alike must go all out in their numbers to collect their PVCs and give their votes to Peter Obi. They mustn’t allow themselves to be bought by the two popular parties.

Then, Labor Party has to become very serious now. They must institute their party structures in all the states of the country and this is quite easy if you ask me. All you need is an alliance with Nigerian Union of Teachers, Nigerian Labor Congress, NANS and ASUU members.

You have members of these associations in all States of the country. This is the time for them to show their displeasure with the government of the day and unite behind another alternative. Labor Party need this national spread now more than anything else. This is why:

To be elected the President of Nigeria, the candidate must receive the majority of the votes and over 25% of the vote in 24 of the 36 states of the federation.

Whereas as at today, Labor Party doesn’t have a Governor in their name but these national associations plus other LITERATE voters should be able to produce the required 25% per state.

And then rely on Kwankwaso’s popularity in the North to curry the bloc votes from the North.

This is plenty work for Labor Party and this work would cost them serious money. Good thing is, well meaning Nigerians are already taking up the campaign expenses on themselves. I hope this is sustained.

I am looking forward to the emergence of this third force.

Travel / WES Canada Documents Evaluation Delays by italkmoses(m): 9:26am On May 07, 2022
I since applied to WES Canada for the evaluation of my credentials. They have received my transcripts and certificates, sent them back to my institution for verification and my school have since verified the credentials.

Problem now is my status in the WES dashboard is still showing awaiting document verification. This is now the 10th week and same thing is showing.

I have written to WES twice, yet no update has been made on my status.

Has anyone experienced this type of delays? How long should it take to update one’s status after verification has been completed? How many months does it take to complete this document evaluation exercise?

Would appreciate your contributions, if you have done this before.

How did you arrive at this majority? Did you conduct any survey to make this hasty conclusion? If you haven't, please go into the street you live and sample 50 people's opinion about Buhari's declaration of interest for second term. When you do, please let us know your findings.

2019: Divided Votes, Buhari Might Win Again.

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his interest to re-contest 2019 elections. I have read through comments across multiple platforms and I see the anger and bitter thirst to vote out Buhari next year. Well, for a non-performing government, I would have been surprised if the reactions were opposite.

As at today, most people prefer to vote anybody else but Buhari. But this is exactly where the challenge is. As at the last count, there are over 10 candidates contesting for the office of the President. Since, the incumbent president is contesting, there's a great deal of advantage on his side leaving the other candidates to share the otherwise remnant votes.

What should we do? The response isn't novel. There has to be a massive coalition amongst other contenders and their parties so that this fight will make sense. They should all align together to arrive at a consensus candidate. If they all decide to jettison this strategy and contest individually, then we have made the journey easier for President Buhari to return to the villa.

P.S: The most serious or active candidates so far are: Mr. Omoyele Sowore, Mr. Fela Durotoye and Mr. Adamu Garba. Given a chance to make a choice, it would be Sowore/Garba running together while FD gets a very critical position in the government that will emerge.

Career / Learning These Softskills Is Transforming My Life. by italkmoses(m): 1:26pm On Sep 06, 2017
3 Skills I am Starting to Learn.

1). Listening.

This shouldn't sound weird. I am not deaf and I have been listening since. Apart from wanting to talk, listen to respond, I am learning listening to understand what is not said. Developing an ear for minute details, using my eyes, ear and nose to listen.

2). Saying No, Genuinely.

Sometimes, in the bid to not get a friend offended, I say yes to requests that will stress me beyond my limit. Othertimes, I am not able to fulfill the request and my good intention to help becomes unintended wicknedness eventually. Saying No is not a crime. It will free up space and save you energy to concentrate on other things that matter.

3). Genuinely Seeking for Help

I have discovered that seeking for help isn't a sign that you are weak. It is rather a sign that you are smart. So, I like to do my thing my own way, my own taste and by myself. Most times, it works for me. But I would have done so much better if I had asked for help.

Learning any softskills you want to share? If not, you can consider adopting the skills highlighted in this post.

Politics / On Chad Basin & The Attack Of The Exploration Team In Borno by italkmoses(m): 1:10am On Jul 28, 2017
::: On Chad Basin & The Attack of the Exploration Team in Borno.

My heart goes out to the Engineers and Geologists that lost their lives in search of commercial quantity of crude oil accumulation in Borno. That said, I think this happenstance is avoidable in the first place.

There are 7sedimentary basins in Nigeria. Niger Delta Basin, Chad Basin, Anambra Basin, Sokoto Basin, Benue Trough, Dahomey Basin & Bida Basin. For the sake of information & in lay man terms, Sedimentary basins are regions of Earth of filled by sediments in commercial quantity. A basin is interpreted in geology to mean a potential oil region.

Presently, Nigeria produces the bulk of her crude from Niger Delta Basin that extend through Akata to Agbada and Benin formation. Hence, sending engineers and geologists to chad basin or any other basin across the Niger and gulf of guinea isn't out of place. Infact, there are exploration and production activities on-going in Anambra Basin (extending through south-east).

What is out of place here is that Borno (been the major host state of chad basin) hasn't gained total freedom from war, that should be the least place to send exploration team to. Government should know things like this. You look at the way Government behaves sometimes and you wonder if our officials ever attended secondary school.

War zones are not places of business. People wait for flashpoints to pull their trigger in war zones. The currency in war zones is destruction and more destruction.

May the souls of the departed guys rest in peace.

Politics / Igalas, Her Single Story Taken Too Far. by italkmoses(m): 6:23am On Jul 05, 2017
IGALAS, HER SINGLE STORY TAKEN TOO FAR.

By: Moses Ilemona Ihiabe

Recently, I had a tete-a-tete conversation with a friend. She is a lady, an urbane and moderately educated one at that. She asked: What state are you from?
Me: I am from Kogi state. I speak Igala language.

She exclaimed in surprise! Kogi State? I said Yes. I thought you are Yoruba, she said. Ah, we cannot be friends again, she submitted.

I was shocked, but I knew something would have been responsible for her resentment against Igalas'. As I succeeded in making her tell me why, I discovered that she had developed a cold blood for anybody or just anything from Kogi, especially the Igala extracts. Apparently, her family had a terrible experience with an Igala family. The Igala family would later engage available fetish and diabolic means to fight my friend's family. She felt bad, they lost their treasures, her family went through a tough time and the pain they endured will linger a while in their minds.

I sympathized with her. Made apologies for what I didn't do and tried to appeal for an image repair for the entire Igala race.

This story is not scarce. I have had this experience elsewhere before. People visiting their anger for Igalas' on me, some even regret on my behalf for having been born into an Igala race. You will find others making derogatory comments about a state because of the misgivings and mischief of an avoidable few.

See, it is entirely unfair to deal with a person based on your perception about the tribe he is from. Visiting your hatred and anger for a race on an innocent member of that race isn't kind of you. Interact with people on plain and unbiased terms, that way we can foster national integration together.

By the way, to say that the Igalas' are a fetish bunch would only amount to a single story about us. Igalas' are also loving, peaceful, hardworking and entirely industrious. Without mincing words, I am proud to be one.

Literature / Christmas Poem: Something About The Manger by italkmoses(m): 7:01am On Dec 25, 2016
It's been a long time since I wrote a poem. As Christmas approached, I promised myself that I will write a poem for Christmas. I just did.

Please enjoy it!

Something about the Manger

Something about the Manger
Brought me on this Radar
A thing happened and I will always Remember
A Child was born into the World
The whole World Behold
Like a Labyrinth to be Told

In rememberance, we call it Christmas
Not like Maths but for the Mass
Even if you are in Mars
Celebrate it like you need it to Pass
Christ is here for the Mass

Christmas for all who are Dear
A time for love and Peace
A time for all fighting to Cease
A time to end the Fear
Something about the Manger!

By: Moses Ihiabe (Merry Christmas Friends)

P.S. If admin can give me a favor of landing this on the frontpage, it will be the best Christmas gift for me.

"it's actually a place where students get to memorize books upon books upon books, that they'll eventually forget a year after graduation."

University education in Nigeria is not about mind development but ability to memorize and score high as the lecturers are lazy.
The difference btw the '60s. '70s Early '80s and now in job availability is that then, the economy was strong and diversified enough for the population of the country. But as the population grew, there was no proportional growth in the economy to keep up with the number of educated(graduands) emerging from the schools. Agriculture and other industries were abandoned as oil began to role out "ready-made" dollars for the rulers, impunity gradually grew in leaps and bounds as there was no punitive measures to curb the corruption especially in civil service.
Banks gave out loans to powerful influential people who never repaid their loans but lived large on borrowed money, lack of prosecution for such crimes committed by "the above the law" people killed many banks and the economy ended up in the bellies of such V.I.Ps.
They didn't create jobs to support govt to grow the economy that's how we got here.
Can you imagine if most of MKO Abiola's companies, Chief Igbinedion's companies like "Canada Dry" which competed stiffly with Coka Cola in Bendel in the '70s-'80s, Okada Air which had already become national carrier for some African countries then. Many other companies owned by Northern business men, Eastern businessmen, Delta today would have had some of the biggest Private and govt companies after they split from Edo (Bendel). These companies would have become exporters of large scale produce and products to earn forex. But they all died with their founders and subsequent govt ignored them as Oil was available for easy "take-away" .
A company that had 50 staff strenght in the '80s should 've by now be employing thousands of young people and the multiplier effect...

Many thanks for your intervention...
