Back in my secondary school days, a class mate of mine who was born in the North told me that Hausas called "Inyamiri" because from the Igbo phrase "Nyem mmiri" which means 'give me water'.

I however do not think that "Inyamiri" came from the civil war as many people who survived the war such as parents have told me that Hausas were calling Igbos by this name even before the war
