PoliticsOver 60 Residents, Soldiers Killed In Borno Community In Boko Haram Massacre by iwaeda(op): 4:05pm On Sep 06, 2025
At least 60 people, including residents and travellers, have been killed in a brutal attack by Boko Haram terrorists in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Yerwa Express news, thee killings occurred around 9pm on Friday when the insurgents stormed Darul Jamal, a recently resettled community near Banki Town, unleashing violence that lasted through the night.

Eyewitnesses and security sources said the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately, targeting unsuspecting residents and travellers who were passing through the area.

“At least 59 civilians and five soldiers were killed. Yet, several others have gone missing,” a local source told reporters.

Among those confirmed dead were seven drivers and six labourers from Bama Town and Maiduguri who had been engaged in reconstruction efforts in the community.

Many displaced persons who had recently been relocated to Darul Jamal from the Government Science Secondary School IDP camp were also among the victims.

The attack left behind widespread destruction, with more than 20 houses and 10 buses set ablaze by the terrorists. Families searching for their loved ones fear the death toll may rise as dozens remain unaccounted for.

Darul Jamal’s tragedy marks a devastating setback for resettlement efforts in Bama.

A decade ago, the LGA was one of the worst-hit by Boko Haram, forcing residents to flee in one of the largest waves of displacement in the region’s recent history.

After years of military operations, the town was reclaimed, and resettlement began in 2016.

The latest massacre underscores the persistent insecurity that continues to threaten both returnee communities and those travelling through the troubled northeast corridor.

The state police command is yet to react to the development while calls put through to the Public Relations Officer of the Borno Police Command, Daso Nahum Kenneth failed to go through as of the time of filing this report.

In May, SaharaReporters reported that Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State banned the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol in filling stations across the Bama Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said that the directive, announced on Saturday, is part of the state government's intensified efforts to address persistent security challenges in the state.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Dauda Iliya.

PoliticsKano: NNPP Expels Reps member, Abdulmumin Jibrin over anti-Party activities by iwaeda(op): 3:25pm On Sep 06, 2025
Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has expelled Abdulmumin Kofa, a member of the House of Representatives over alleged anti-party activities.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency, in a char with any online media outlet, DCL on Friday had declared his plans to leave the NNPP.

Mr Kofa also stated that he supported the ruling party to win election in Kano just as he returned to the red chamber under its umbrella in 2023 elections.

But at a press conference in Kano on Saturday, the state’s Chairman of NNPP, Hashim Dungurawa, announced Mr Kofa’s dismissal, saying that the decision followed his repeated media outbursts against the party and its leadership.

Mr Dungurawa described Mr Kofa as a “weak politician” whose electoral success was only made possible through the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP platform, not personal strength.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed.

“It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” Mr Dungurawa said.

The NNPP chairman disclosed that a reconciliation committee had initially been set up to engage Mr Kofa after his interview with Channels Television, but said a subsequent media outing proved he had crossed the line.

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” the chairman said.

MR Dungurawa further accused Mr Kofa of defaulting in the payment of mandatory party dues, vowing that NNPP would institute legal action to recover the funds.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he added.

On speculations that Mr Jibrin may return to the APC, Mr Dungurawa said such a move would not affect NNPP’s strength, stressing that “politics is about groups and coalitions” and Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

PoliticsTinubu Government Using Same Old Strategy By Buhari Administration To Silence Me by iwaeda(op): 12:40pm On Sep 06, 2025
Speaking in a reaction to fresh claims against him, Sowore said the accusations mirror the same strategy used by the Muhammadu Buhari administration during his arrest in 2019.

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has condemned allegations of forgery against him, describing them as part of a sustained plot by the President Bola Tinubu-led government to silence and blackmail him.

Speaking in a reaction to fresh claims against him, Sowore said the accusations mirror the same strategy used by the Muhammadu Buhari administration during his arrest in 2019.

He shared his views while speaking on Channels TV Hard Copy programme.

"Well, I think it is just a recycling of the same strategy that was used by the Buhari regime in 2019 when I was arrested during a planned protest known as Revolution Now," he said.

"I was equally accused of terrorism financing. That was, in fact, what the Buhari regime used in getting a 45-day detention order against me from Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, now retired."

Sowore explained that previous allegations, including money laundering and cybercrime, were baseless and eventually withdrawn after failing in court.

"They also accused me of money laundering and also accused me of cybercrime."

"In fact, that was the first time I was accused of cybercrime or cyberbullying."

"They claim I was cyberbullying the president. Well when we asked them to present the evidence of cyberbullying they ran away."

According to him, the government has a consistent pattern of framing allegations without evidence.

"So, it's just a strategy to silence me, it's a strategy to blackball me into a situation, where I have to be defending myself against, because when they bring up these allegations, they don't present anything to the courts. And that is what is wrong with our courts."

On the recent court order to furnish the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, with his account details, Sowore said the move was a violation of his fundamental rights.

"Typically I wouldn't be worried about it, but because it's a violation of my privacy, it's a violation of my fundamental rights, and because I know what it's all about, we are going to challenge the order."

"My GTB account is still frozen. In fact, I'm in court against GTB and the DSS for illegally freezing my account. There's nothing about my account. There's nothing about my life that is not public. But, you know, you also have a duty as citizens to ensure that people just don't take you for granted, that they don't violate your rights simply because it is the easy thing to do."

On the forgery allegation, Sowore insisted there was no basis for the claim.

"So the claim that I forged a police wireless message… Yeah, so he forged that internal memo message."

"And when they presented them before me they were the same except that one of them had watermark over it; that was a difference; that's not forgery; you can only forge a document if the document emanated from a different person, you know masquerading as the other; you cannot forge a document that was made by the police just by writing hard copy as a watermark on it. If you get a police wireless message and you want to have people not to take it away from you as the source of the original, you can put a copy of the watermark on it; that's not forgery."

The Nigerian police had filed charges of conspiracy, forgery, and incitement to instigate mutiny, against Sowore.

The case was slated for arraignment before trial judge, Emeka Nwite, but has stalled over the failure of the Nigerian police to serve SaharaReporters.

The police is targeting Sowore after he led a protest to demand for better welfare for retired police officers and policemen in general.

He has also openly stood against favouritism, bias in the Nigerian police including the extension of the tenure of current IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, which he has described as illegal.

The attack occurred late Thursday night, around 11:40 p.m., targeting a group of local hunters who tried to fend off the assailants.

Adeadly bandit raid in Kokodo village, Edu Local Government Area, has claimed the lives of four people and left two others kidnapped.

The attack occurred late Thursday night, around 11:40 p.m., targeting a group of local hunters who tried to fend off the assailants.

According to a resident who spoke with NupekoTv, three hunters were killed on the spot during the clash, while a fourth victim, who sustained severe gunshot wounds, died Thursday morning while receiving treatment.

The attackers also abducted two community members before fleeing the scene. The identities of the deceased and the kidnapped individuals have not yet been disclosed.

This incident adds to a growing pattern of violent attacks in Kwara North, where communities continue to live under the threat of banditry.

Residents of Kokodo have expressed deep concern over their safety and are urging authorities to establish a stronger and more permanent security presence to prevent further tragedies.

Meanwhile, on September 2, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, had issued threats against journalists and media practitioners over constant reports exposing the rising insecurity in Kwara North communities.

A source within the emirate, who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity, revealed that the monarch summoned journalists to his palace on Sunday, where he warned them against further reporting incidents of terrorism and bandit attacks in the area.

“On Sunday, the Emir of Lafiagi summoned all the journalists and media practitioners to his palace and warned them not to report insecurity issues in our land again,” the source disclosed.

According to the source, the Emir claimed that he was acting on the orders of the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The intimidation comes amid growing concerns over repeated attacks by bandits in Lafiagi, Patigi, and other parts of Kwara North, where residents have been kidnapped, killed, or forced to pay ransom to terrorists operating freely.

“You know that the Kwara State Government has once threatened The Informant247 not to report insecurity issues in Kwara North,” the source further said.

“The governor said SaharaReporters, Nupeko TV, and The Informant247 are exposing the government of Kwara State because their reports on insecurity in Lafiagi and Patigi have been embarrassing Governor AbdulRahman.”

Already, journalists covering the area are said to be operating under fear of arrest and harassment.
